There are quite a few statues and busts situated along Avenida da Liberdade. You can also see the large scale Monument to the Dead of the Great War which is situated in front of the Spain Embassy and near the Avenida Metro Station. The monument honours Portuguese who died fighting in WWI and was inaugurated in 1931. It is the work of Portuguese architects Guilherme and Carlos Rebelo de Andrade. What you see is a large figure representing the Fatherland grasping a flag while placing a crown on the head of kneeling solider. There are two larger male figures bracing and holding up the monument pedestal as well.

... what is there to say, it is a statue, it's big and beautiful, nice to see, but not something you need to see when you visit Lisbon. Not disrespecting that is is a monument for war victims, but yeah, just a statue.

You can't judge the place individually. It doesn't matter where you start, everything is very central. These are the most famous places nearby. The old town with line 28, many sights, bars, shops and the harbor. Just a very beautiful city. The Rossio train station is also nearby to visit the surrounding area and the city of Sintra.

Sitting in an open air cafe, enjoying a beer and listening to jazz while admiring this splendid statue, in honour of fallen Portuguese soldiers, which is located on this beautiful Lisbon thoroughfare. To the fallen - cheers 🍻
