Santo Amaro Chapel

Tourist attraction Chapel

👍👍 The chapel is small, still impressive in every detail - the fabulous tiling, the elaborate iron gates, the wooden doors, the old vaulted ceiling… You can spot carved legs and arms in the doors and similar figures placed on the altar. This is because it was believed that saint Amaro healed broken leg... People often mention view, chapel, bridge, views,

The chapel is small, still impressive in every detail - the fabulous tiling, the elaborate iron gates, the wooden doors, the old vaulted ceiling… You can spot carved legs and arms in the doors and similar figures placed on the altar. This is because it was believed that saint Amaro healed broken legs and arms. Many people visit the chapel to pray for healing injured limbs. Climbing the steps to the chaple rewards you also with an impressive view of the 25th April bridge.

The church is beautifull, small and great, the tiles i blue, yellow and green is different from traditional blue ones... Great to see that a conservation work is starting here... Ps: One of the best views of April's 25 bridge.

Worth seeing tile mirrors in the anteroom of the chapel. From the spacious forecourt you have a direct view of the Ponte de 25 Abril.

One of Lisbon's oldest and most unknown buildings. You can still see the azulejos/tiles when closed, but the gates are open on Fridays.

Great place to visit!! Santo Amaro Chapel is one of the pleasant treasures of cosmopolitan Lisboa. Designed by Diogo de Torralva and built in 1549, the chapel has been classified as a national monument since 1910. It is an architectonic gem with circular plan and an arcade completely covered with magnificent polychromatic tiles. The Santo Amaro Chapel is accessed through a steep stairway, reflecting the symbolism of the “town of the seven hills”, as Lisboa is often called, overlooking the superb Tejo river. Enjoy a fantastic view of 25 de Abril bridge and Cristo Rei Statue! It is very easy to get there, it is near Lx Factory and Estação de Santo Amaro, take the tram 15 or 18, bus 727 or 748, among others.

Bad experience. The chapel was closed, with some strange men using drugs and urinating in the chapel.

Beautiful fisherman's chapel overlooking the Tagus. A great place to come and watch the sunrise/sunset. It's a shame they are renovating it. I'm afraid it will take away its rustic charm.

A site full of history, with typical portuguese tiles, with recovery plans for 2021, and as the best view in Alcântara!

👍👍 Beautiful place. It's such a pleasure to be here in any season in full sun or under the moon. The Belem tower is awesome ! This fortress in the middle of the Tagus has been the starting point for the navigators who set out to discover the trade routes. The expansive spirit is still present here. En...
