Small museum in the former residence of Dr Gonçalves and an adjoining building. The house dates to 1905 and has a few lovely stained glass windows from the time. The period Portuguese and French furniture was also interesting, and decorated with a large collection of Chinese ceramics. The guest experience would be much improved if the museum would simply identify the pieces in the collection with small labels, as a minority of pieces currently have any kind of description/label and very few paintings. Lighting was also dim. Additionally, a guide on each floor was assigned to visitors, which many may prefer. But for a small group of 2, I found very distracting and disruptive when one of the guides kept drawing me away from the piece I was looking at to inspect something else... talking and asking rhetorical questions the whole time. It prevents the visitor from having any sense of discovery or personal appreciation for the art. It's obvious that the guides care a lot about the collection, but I wouldn't recommend this museum unless you are interested in something specific to the collection.

Worth a visit. Interesting house with some neat things inside. I found the bedroom and bathroom most interesting. I visited Sunday morning during the free hours, before 2pm.

Mediocre experience. There are better house museums to see in the city, and this one is pretty far away from the main area. Also felt like the staff didn't even want me to come in. I was there for a quick visit before they closed in 30 minutes, and got more of the 'go away we're trying to close vibe'. Oil paintings on the top floor were pretty nice.

Unexpectedly nice museum. It doesn't take much time but gives you an idea about Portuguese art. We have welcomed by very nice staff. Thanks

Museum closed for renovation for an indefinite period. This is not announced anywhere, I found out in front of the door, on a small poster, after I passed through the areas in rebuild

One of the most beautiful museums in Lisbon with great collections of China, ceramics, furniture and Portuguese 19th century painting. Very small and intimate.

A house-museum surrounded by city buildings. Filled with many interesting pieces. Free to visit on the first Sunday of the month.

Splendid art nouveau building from 1905, designed by Norte Júnior for painter José Malhoa. Since 1980, it's a museum.

I was the only visitor at the time. A gentleman on the third floor welcomed me warmly and guided me through the exhibitions. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. I really appreciated his hospitality.

Beautiful house, decor, and paintings from the period. It's nice to see how someone lived back then. Wonderful staff. I basically had a private tour and could ask whatever questions I wanted, and I could really take my time looking.

Truly amazing. I wish I had more time in the visit. The second floor was the best part. It belongs to ophthalmologist and art collector Dr. António Anastácio Gonçalves (1888-1965). He collected Portuguese 19th-century painting and decorative art pieces. Children Free until (age): 12 Adult: 3 € Senior: 1,50 € Sunday mornings free until 13 Close on Mondays

The house is pretty. If you are in the area and have nothing else to do, it's fine. But it's not worth a detour.
