This Church, also known as the Church of the Holy Body, is located in Square of the same name in the city of Lisbon, close to Cais do Sodré. It was built on the ruins of a 15th century temple, destroyed by the 1755 earthquake that profoundly shook this area of the city. Work began in 1768, as part of the Pombaline reconstruction, under a project by the architect Francisco de Abreu, following a layout identical to the Mafra Convent Church. Due to the elegance of the entire complex, well integrated into Largo de S. Paulo or Corpo Santo, but also due to the paintings that decorate its interior, side chapels and ceiling, by the painters João Grassi, Pedro Alexandrino de Carvalho and Jerónimo de Andrade, I recommend a visit .

This is a Baroque church at the western end of Praça de São Paulo and just a couple minutes walk from Mercado da Ribeira. Like so many churches in Lisbon, it seems it was mostly destroyed during the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake and rebuilt around 1768 by Portuguese architect Francisco Remigio de Abreau. I liked the simple facade with two bell towers and double niche fitted with statues of St. Paul and St. Peter. Within the church, there is a nave with white marble walls fitted with side chapels. The high altar is very attractive. However, what impressed me the most was the charming ceiling fresco. Stand in back and give it a few minutes to enjoy. There is a remarkable 3D effect to the fresco.

For a neoclassical church, it's not bad. Its painted ceiling that imitates taller architecture stands out especially. The main chapel has a good decoration that combines stucco with painting.

(Translated by Google) Founded on the ex convent of the barefoot Carmelites of 1606, this church dedicated by the saint was used as a barracks, to pass to the Evangelical Lusitanians in 1898. It has a style reminiscent of the Renaissance but distinctly rigid, with a double symmetrical bell tower on the main facade. This external composure vanishes inside where the only nave present has a richly frescoed ceiling with a spectacular trompe l'oeil, which simulates an upper floor consisting of a colonnade that frames the divine scene of saints in paradise. The altar dedicated to the saint is golden and the ceiling above the altar proposes rich high-reliefs with plant motifs, triumphs of cherubs and fake reliefs. This wonder is located in the Cais de Sodré district, very close to the market of the same name where you can also go and stock up on an afternoon snack.

A gorgeous church with a unique painted wooden ceiling and a very narrow altar that gives it elegant proportions. A comforting respite in the midst of a tourist filled neighbourhood.

It's worth visiting. If you have arrived on foot from the Alcantara Mare train station in the direction of Piazza del Commercio or vice versa, you have taken a historical journey from the 1700s, with reconstructions and restorations, as in this case. Be careful not to confuse it with the "Catholic Cathedral of the Evangelicals", which is also located along the route.

(Translated by Google) Church in the square of the same name, was rebuilt in 1768 after the earthquake of 1755 destroyed it and within the plan to recover the city, from which date most of the buildings. It makes a very harmonious ensemble with the fountain and the square. Little visited (Original) Igrexa na praza do mesmo nome, foi reconstruida no 1768 despois de que o terremoto do 1755 a destruira e dentro do plan para recuperar a cidade, do cal datan a maior parte das edificacións. Fai un conxunto moi armònico coa fonte e a praza. Pouco visitada

It is a very beautiful church, with a very pious Paul VI Mass, as it should be.
