We discovered this Gallery while in Lisbon a few years ago. Francisco was so patient and helpful with us. It took a bit to find the piece that “spoke” to us. That piece is in our living room and may be our favorite piece of art and we also purchased another piece while there. We just finished redoing our dining room and couldn’t find a piece that anchored it. Again I reached out to Francisco. He just has a wonderful selection and frankly there were quite a few that would have worked. Just received the piece selected. It’s gorgeous and will be that “jewel” focal point in this room. A true pleasure to have it and of course to know Francisco. Wonderful place! Wonderful owner!

Francisco and his team have assembled a stunning selection of some of the finest pieces of art you will see. The building in Lisbon itself is a work of art. We purchased two pieces to be shipped to our apartment in the USA, and Francisco guided us patiently through the entire process. We are so grateful for him.

We recently purchased a painting from Galeria São Mamede while visiting Lisbon. They have a great selection of artists represented and were very helpful as we found an artist whose work we really liked and then as we went through a number of their paintings. They arranged shipping (painting arrived expertly packed and in perfect condition), and we loved working with Sara and the rest of the staff there. We will return, and certainly recommend visiting them if you are in the market for quality art.

Really lovely manageable fine arts museum in Lisbon. Less hectic makes more enjoyment! This museum has a really nice feel. Rather than the overwhelming anxiety one might feel in the Musee D’Orsay walking bot like through room after room of mind numbing impressionist masterpieces; that experience reminding you of the desperation you felt to find the exit at the IKEA store after you foolishly went to the 3rd floor for the pancakes and lingonberries. Worry not! the Gulbenkian is in a modern, one story building, not an old train station. And the space flows with semi private rooms featuring groupings of exquisite representational pieces of a particular place, time and type of object. Mr Gulbenkian collected a wide array of art, and rather than specializing on a particular era or medium, his collection features a few examples of exceptional quality. From Middle Eastern garments, to Chinese porcelain, to Rodin sculptures to mideval Madonna and Child portraits, it is very easy to move around the museum to focus on those works that you’re most interested in. The openness of the space helps one feel less claustrophobic. There’s also a beautiful picnicking area outside, and the architecture of the museum building itself is impressive. As I’ve said, I believe the Gulbenkian Fine Arts Museum, a gift to Lisbon from an Armenian Immigrant, is the “leading fine arts museum You’ve never heard of.” Well, now you have. Go see it.

A very beautiful museum. Had the chance to see the exhibition of the private collection of Calouste Gulbenkian for his 150th anniversary and it was enriching. A great treasure he left behind for Lisbon and humanity.

It's a very beautiful and interesting museum, full of Portuguese art. It has a very helpful timeline that helps interpret the works and the general layout is very confortable to walk. It's a recommended place to visit in Lisboa.

Glorious collection of antiquities and artworks bequeathed to the people of Portugal by the Getty-like oil magnate Calouste Gulbenkian. A stunning art collection in a gorgeous setting. It is FREE on Sundays after 14:00.

Great museum, where you can see some master prices like Reubens, Rodin, monet, etc... The temporary exposition of mirrors "beyond the mirror" it is very interesting. I really recommend the museum and the surrounding park/garden.

The gallery is set in beautiful, tranquil gardens. A cool and peaceful oasis in the heat and noise of Lisbon. Turtles, carp and ducks swim in ornamental ponds that thread through bamboos, tropical ferns and trees. The collection is wonderful, a trip through the finest examples of European, oriental and Egyptian art. The Rembrandt's are worth the trip alone.

Beautiful museum! There were great pieces displayed in a very tasteful manner. Plenty of space was dedicated to each item so that it could be properly appreciated. The layout of the museum goes basically from oldest to newest and the Lalique pieces at the end were the icing on the cake! Be sure and get the museum app as it explains some pieces in other languages which helps as nothing in the museum was in any other language than native!

At the time of my most recent visit to the Gulbenkian Foundation's modern and contemporary art galleries I was very fortunate to see a screening of Grada Kilomba's stunning and thought-provoking film-based installation "Narcissus and Echo" (2019) - which was presented in 12 parts across a vast floor-to-ceiling screen, and accompanied throughout by the recitation and narration of poetic verse and lyrical storytelling. In addition, the modern and contemporary sculpture section featured a diverse range of pieces, from 20th century Art Deco figurative works through to more recently created geometric and minimalistic, abstracted designs.
