If you want to feel how low you can be treated by someone, try interacting with the people in charge of adoptions here, especially Margarida Saldanha! Tried to adopt a cat from here, but all the people I spoke with were so disrespectful and talking down. The lack of social skills with these people here is incredible!!! For some reason I had to go there three times only to have been made to wait around for nothing (once for 20 minutes in rain without being invited nor allowed to step inside!). In the end after two weeks of waiting for them to decide what do they want to do, although I clearly expressed my intention to adopt that particular cat, they told me the cat is sick (of course, which I already knew!) and then they started tutoring me over the phone and screaming. Unbelievable! I am actually sad about the cat - King - and all the animals there living in dire conditions who will miss being adopted because of a stupid human barrier.

Where should I even begin. In 2015 I adopted an older, overweight dog that was suffering from arthritis. I visited her 3 times and they were very reluctant to give the dog to me even though she was in the shelter for over 3 years. Unfortunately the dog died of cancer in September 2018 so I came back go the shelter in November 2018 to look for another dog to save from the shelter. I found a true angel, but again they started to give me excuses as to why I couldn't adopt the dog. I visited 4 times already and they still don't want to give me the dog and gave several excuses "the dog is shy / the dog is uncomfortable / the dog can't be trusted" they also told me I need to continue to visit her on a daily basis and if they feel comfortable I can maybe have the dog. The funny thing is that on their website they say that they want this particular dog to be adopted her name is "Minnie" but not to me apparently. There are some very good people volunteering at the shelter, but unfortunately there is one woman that decides who can adopt and she is uneducated, arrogant and disrespectful. The other volunteers try to convince her that we should be able to adopt Minnie but to no avail, the fact that I already adopted a dog once before from them, that I visited Minnie 4 times already doesn't change a thing. Too bad that due to one spiteful woman some dogs can't get away from the shelter to a warm and loving home. Luisa Barroso wants people to give money, food and their labor, but actually adopting a dog is apparently a bridge too far.

Really sad and heartbreaking experience for me. There is no adoption process and every time I ask there is no clear answer. I tried to adopt a dog and, first, the rule was I needed to walk the dog 2 times then and after I had done that I was told I needed to continue walking the dog for a week, then after I had done that it was that I needed to speak with Margarita in-person only during a one-hour time window but once I got there she was gone. After hours and days of rearranging my schedule to fit their requests I have given up any hope that they will allow me to adopt the dog, which is so heartbreaking because I have grown to adore the dog and it breaks my heart to know he is still in that poorly run facility for no reason. The volunteers are friendly but not knowledgeable about the adoption process or how the shelter works, everything is up to the two managers/owners. The owners are rude, inconsiderate and poor managers. The facility is poor and very sad.

What's not to love? For any animal lover this is your place. But don't come empty handed, bring a bag of food or cat litter. It's always a help. If you have some spare time, take a dog to a walk.

GO AND WALK A DOG TODAY!!! There are so many people there trying to help these dogs that have been abused and abandoned, and just 1 hour of your time can make a HUGE difference to the dogs and the volunteers.

👍👍 Impressive and unusual collection of international art across centuries presented in a cool setting and with a pleasant cantine as well. Museums can be boring or over specialised or too intellectual - this one strikes a great balance of providing and overview and focusing on some extraordinary style...

👍👍 Excellent Palace and fortunately they are recovering it little by little because it is a paradise within the city that deserves to come back to life with architectural and cultural dignity.
