🫤 A proud American not feeling so proud after my visit to this embassy. There is no way that you can give this place 5 stars if you pay a visit! I've lived in Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico and this has to be the worst embassy I've been to. I got to the embassy 15 minutes before my appointmen... A proud American not feeling so proud after my visit to this embassy. There is no way that you can give this place 5 stars if you pay a visit! I've lived in Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico and this has to be the worst embassy I've been to. I got to the embassy 15 minutes before my appointment on a rainy day and they made me wait outside for over 30 minutes. At least warn me that there is no inside waiting area. Thank god for the tree outside that offered some protection from the rain for the people that didn't have an umbrella. There was a poor elderly lady that got there early and had been waiting soaked for an hour. Advice: whatever you do don't go early! Which to be fair they warn you about in the appointment confirmation. Besides having to wait outside, you are in the middle of nowhere. I get it. Safety is an issue! And well, I felt safe and really cold and wet! Better communication would have made everything better. Everyone there was pissed off and irritated. I love my country but I have a feeling that anyone going to this embassy will leave with a bitter taste in their mouth!

They have all my respect. They answered all my emails, and they treated very well during my process. The only reason I gave 4 stars rating is that you need to wait outside the building (before security procedures) until your scheduled time, and outside the building, there is only a bench under the tree to wait. They could think about the experience that people could have during the bad weather conditions. It is only a humble tip for improvements on the service. The photo attached on this review was taken when I was seated on the bench, in front of the security cabin where you need to pass before enter effectively in the Embassy.

Needed an attention notarized. Easy to schedule an appointment, and the wait time was minimal. We arrived about 13 min before the appointment time and checked in. We were inside the Embassy within 10 min of arrival.

No one answers the phone, even if you select 0 to speak to an operator. Spent five minutes going through a recorded list of options only to eventually hear another recorded message tell me to email. Email responses are brief and only direct you to websites that lack complete information. Phone line to COOP doesn't even ring (says unfortunately call cannot be completed at this time) and no one answers those emails.

Pressed zero for an operator and then the phone rang for 18 minutes. No one ever answered and you can't get in without an appointment, apparently. How one gets an appointment when no one answers the phone, I have no idea. Working for the government must be nice.

Horrible staff !! Receptionist cuts you off before you finish talking, transfers you to other departments that don't pick up. You ask for a supervisor they don't transfer or they hang up on you. You come for an appointment ahead of time, they make you wait outside even as an American Citizen, under cold weather, rain or shine, as there is no shelter or waiting area in the perimeter of the security area. The place is in the boonies in a traffic noisy area with no other businesses nearby, with you having to walk up a steep road with an underpasses full of homeless people left overs. Private police security force outside walking back and forth with guns! Highly disappointed and no wonder Americans are giving up their citizenship, left and right. As a consolation, one of the security guys came outside to talk to me; he saw me as a disabled individual and apologized. They are under orders to not let anyone inside the perimeter until 15 min before their appointment. On top of everything else, one stinky notary costs you $50 dollars! Talk about highway robbery! So disappointed about American diplomacy. If they treat Americans outside home like this...imagine the non Americans! :-((

Arrived slightly early for my appointment at 1:30pm on 1/9/19. I waited under the tree on the bench until they called my name perhaps 10 minutes later. There were many others who had an appointment to get their fingerprints taken the same time as me. It's true they take your cell phone and make you turn it off. Lots of security (even more than an airport). However the staff were reasonably friendly IMO, even in the middle of the US government shutdown. I was in and out within 45 minutes max.

i've had to contact the Embassy a few times in the last couple of years, and every time it has been impossible to get an answer. The phone system goes in circles and will only refer you to the email. The operator on the phone can never give an answer. I've sent multiple emails to the contact email address provided and never get an answer. Very frustrating and very worrying.

I have called the embassy trying to connect with the embassy in Paris, after several attempts to contact the phone number on the website and only number provided by the Portugal. In true portuguese fashion the lack of knowledge or interest in helping was unbelievable. Not even wanting to listen to my situation in order to offer some guidance. It's ridiculous that even in 2021 portuguese staff show any interest in aiding others when facing issues. I hope the same receives proper costumer service training and are more knowledgeable in future.

They are the most USELESS embassy in the world! I have been stuck in mandatory quarantine without any support from US Embassy in navigating through confusing Portuguese protocols, called at least 4 different health lines JUST to register my quarantine, and the only thing the embassy said is "keep trying." USELESS.

Found myself in an emergency situation when all my belongings (including my passport) were stolen in Portugal. Called the embassy and had my emergency passport in my hands within 15 hours. Nathan, the head of the branch, is spectacular. Way to help other Americans out! Makes me proud to call myself an American.

Visited The Federal Benefits Unit to resolve a Social Security issue. Flavia Nunes was very professional, Caring and friendly in only a few days she was able to resolve a situation that the Social Security Office in Margate Florida wasn't able to or didn't bother to resolve in months. The entrance security staff was very professional. Overall great experience 40 years after my last visit. Thank you, truly appreciated Carlos Couto

helpful and kind stuff, but they have a serious issue with parking, that is, they have none. And they don't want you to stop for even 1 minute to drop someone off...

Staff is great. Close to a zoo if you’re out of meetings early enough. Uber from the airport is incredibly cheap.

I have had an absolutely ridiculous experience at the Lisbon US Embassy. Almost 3 weeks ago I lost my passport, and immediately filed it lost with the Porto police. I scheduled an appointment for the next Monday, July 24th at 9:10 am and had all of my required documents printed and ready to go. I arrived at the embassy almost 45 minutes early at 8:30 am (the website recommends you arrive just 15 minutes prior for screening). I proceed to wait in line for almost 2 hours. By the time I got to the window, I explained my situation with my lost passport to the man in the window. He returned me my ID and told me to come back the following Monday July 31st, at the same time and to "not forget." I did just that. I arrived even earlier this time, at 8 am in case of another long line. This time luckily I was the first person to arrive at the embassy. I gave the man in the window (the exact same employee as before) my ID and reminded him (even though he told me not to forget) that he told me to return on this date. I then proceeded to sit outside for 45 minutes only for another security guard to come outside, return my ID yet again, and tell me that I cannot go inside without an appointment. Having an appointment was completely pointless the first time since I had to wait in line an hour and a half past the its time. I now still don't have a passport and have to reschedule an important surgery and all of my August 6th flights. Would give this place 0 stars if I could.

Good morning, my experience in clearing My questions on the phone call were excellent. I see that there are many bad comments about not answering the phone but personally I had very good treatment and if they contacted me with the operator and if she answered my questions, I will leave you the number to call in case it helps you in any way, 351- 21-727-3300, the time I called is 8:40 am in Portugal, I think that if you call in the mornings they will be less busy and the operator will be able to assist you.
