We wanted our eldest kid to learn martial arts, but we were not just looking for self-defense techniques, we were also interested in the philosophy and personal growth. We tried several places until we found Hélio and his academy. His love for children, his dedication, the respect he shows and his commitment to make every one of those kids a better version of themselves was more than we ever dreamed of. It has been over 3 years and both of our children attend the academy now, even I have joined the jiu-jitsu family. We can see the results of the time invested with Hélio and the rest of the team at the school every day. We are grateful we have a place like this in Lisbon and we encourage adults and children to come and try it!

Hélio and the team were incredibly welcoming. Very kindly taught in English as well as Portuguese with a great mix of technical details and sparring. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Great place that I’m glad I checked out. Traveling on vacation with my family but wanted to get some mat time in. Hélio welcomed me, rented me a gi, and I had a great time rolling with some of the members of his school as well as other schools (open mat). Hope our paths cross again.

This is an amazing place. We visited here from the United States and the chief instructor, Helio, made my sons’ experience awesome. He communicated with me in advance of our trip and provided all the necessary details. The class instruction was structured, focused, and clear; and the students made my sons feel very welcome. It was a really positive environment and they new techniques. My sons told me they want to go back already! THANK YOU!

I come here often when I visit Lisbon, definitely recommend! Mat fee is 20eu and they have showers you can use as well. White GIs only but the first time I visited I only had a black Gi and they were cool with it.

Came in for a class and was blown away by how kind everyone was! Great instruction in both Portuguese and English for international students who are visiting. Absolutely phenomenal environment to learn full of very talented students. Plus there’s a cute dog named Batata, who can compete with that?

Dropped in on a lunchtime class, and was pleasantly surprised that there was a roomy women's changing room, and of course other female students, who were super welcoming and could tell me more about the school. The class was excellent and the instructor is very helpful about breaking down complicated techniques. I was able to borrow a gi and belt. Can't wait to train here again.

I went for a lunchtime open mat session during a visit to Lisbon, and made feel very welcome. The jiu jitsu is top quality and well worth a visit should you ever be in the area!

Was here in Lisbon for extended time and my boys wanted to continue training while overseas. Professor Hélio and the rest of the instructors welcomed them and the instruction is top notch. Highly recommend and look forward to visiting again when back in Lisbon!

I trained here 3 times during my 1 week stay in Lisbon and I wish I could've joined even more. The vibe at the gym is great, everyone is super cool and the classes are well structured and taught. Obrigado Helio and Miguel for the hospitality and the good times, will come again when back in Lisbon!

Great gym, with some of the nicest people who also happen to be savages on the mat. I was in Lisbon for a week and I managed to train there twice. I sent the gym an instagram message asking if I was welcome for drop-ins, within a few minutes I was informed that I was welcome and that there were gi's for hire if required. The classes were well structured (and taught in English) and I was able to attend open mat. Everyone I rolled/met was extremely friendly and welcoming (it can be intimidating visiting a foreign gym overseas but I was never made to feel uncomfortable). Professor's Helio and Miguel were very hospitable and made sure I was looked after. Definitely recommend visiting any of the 5 Elements gyms if you are in Lisbon.

I spent 2 weeks training here, as a visiting student. Professor Hélio is an excellent communicator, and was kind enough to follow up in all he taught, in English. He is extremely welcoming of new members, and this has translated in to a very welcoming crowd of BJJ practitioners, for all levels. I would absolutely recommend both group and private lessons with Professor Hélio. Thank you and see you again. Tom

Came here for a drop-in class while visiting Lisbon, and the environment was so welcoming! I am new to BJJ but Coach Hélio’s instructions were very clear and easy to understand. The students who joined were also helpful and gave me pointers on important BJJ basics. Thank you all for having me, this is definitely going to be my go to gym whenever I'm in Portugal!

Had a great experience with these guys! Contacted them as I was travelling through Lisbon. Hélio was very welcoming made sure I was aware of the schedule. The class was really interesting an incorporated some new techniques for me. Massive thank you to the other students and Jochem in particular, who welcomed me and made me feel at home. Will be sure to call in again when back in town. Obrigado 🙏🤙

Helio and the team are awesome. Myself and our 2 teenagers dropped in for an open mat and we were so impressed by the welcoming environment and level of competition. I’d highly recommend.

I was on vacation in Lisbon and wanted to train while in town. I sent a message on whats app to make sure it was ok to drop-in and Hélio replied to me almost instantly. The gym is spacious and clean, everyone is very nice and the training was great. I highly recommend to anyone, those traveling through Lisbon and those living in Lisbon looking for a good gym. I will be back next time I am in Lisbon!

Excellent coaching staff, cleanliness in the gym and friendly atmosphere. For those who do not speak Portuguese, everything is duplicated in English. A wonderful hall, thank you very much.

The curriculum includes the self-defense aspects of Jiujitsu sometimes overlooked in favor of ‘sports Jiujitsu’, the standard of instruction is excellent. This is a club with good facilities and a welcoming community of friendly practitioners. Recommended for adults and kids.

Great atmosphere and training environment. The instructors are great and always willing to help. Couldn't recommend it enough! If you're looking to train or are thinking about trying BJJ for the first time this is the place!

Absolutely amazing school. I travel a lot so I had the chance to train in many different places. This was hands down one of the most welcoming school where I had the chance to roll. Highly recommend!

Professor Hélio is a great teacher/instructor. He harvests a great and welcoming environment. All of the students are a reflection of professor Hélio. I wasn't the only visiting student and which says a lot about of this school and its people. If you're in Lisbon, Five Elements is definitely a place to train.

Visited 5 elements gym recently. Hélio was very kind and welcoming to us in his gym. A very good instructor with traditional BJJ morals in the gym. Great academy with a busy class of students with solid fundamentals.
