Pretty good tasca. The issue is related to their double standard menu. They have a dark background menu in Portuguese with normal prices. That’s the reason why you’ll see old Portuguese grandpa and grandma there. And a white background menu in Portuguese and English 60% more expensive. They developed dishonest tourist targeting strategy. Be careful if you decide to go there. Ask the dark background menu. As addition to Portuguese, they speak English and French.

Yummy Portuguese dishes including sweet and savory pastries. Founded in 1838 it still carries an old world charm with a taste of wholesome rice base dishes. Our total order with fresh orange juice came up to €35 and it was more than what we could eat.

This old school Portuguese cafeteria is worth a visit, particularly for those feeling price fatigued by the trendy new restaurants. Don't expect to be pampered here. This place strives to offer standard fare food at reasonable prices

We have been twice since our stay here. We stumbled upon it as it's close to our hotel. Very helpful waiters who spoke English. A typical local Portuguese tea/coffee, restaurant. That is what we wanted to experience not a Starbucks. We've had tea and coffee there. We as also went back the following day for dinner. Delicious grilled sea bass with boiled potatoes cooked well. The vegetables were a bit overcooked to my liking. No need to be worrying about price and pompous waiters. I thoroughly recommend it.

I ordered dessert and it was rotten. Luckily I only ate one bite of it. It was very smelly too, so it's pretty clear he stayed there for a very long time. The place is not clean at all. Enough to go to the bathroom there and see that cleaning is not their priority. I will never go back there

Really bad experience! Their waiters offer youo foods and then they charge it to you. They even add cost to you dish different from the menu. The food no good and the service is the wroste really bad, the waiters clean the dishs with their bare-hands and let costumes eat in it. Avoid it!

This is an AMAZING low key spot. The people were very friendly, it was so easy to order and the food was very very cheap!! It’s advertised as a cafe but it’s more like a diner. Must eat at here!! Wish I took a photo of my delicious food but I was so hungry. Love it!

Traditional cafe, great value for money and friendly service. The English breakfast comprised a thick white slice of buttered toast, scrambled eggs, pastel del nata, coffee and a glass of fresh orange juice €9. Wife got 2x coffee, pastel de nata and spinach and cheese pastry slice, and apricot jam croissant for €8. We both enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

The food was cold and taste less, the service of the waiters was rude and anoying, but still the place was really well decorated.

We only had toast and coffee. But it's one of those places that you just know everything will be great. Homemade thick toast buttered on both sides. That's a win for sure. Fabulous selection of pastries too.

1838 café, nice friendly staff who heated up the pastry for us. Good pulled pork puff pastry, not sure if the name in Portuguese, egg tart too.

Awful experience. Took 30 mins for a toast and it came terrible. No butter, dry Bread and barely had cheese or ham.

Just because the restaurant has existed since the 1800s doesn't mean I expected an 1800s level experience. The waitress, who did not speak English, handed us menus, only to reveal ten minutes later that 60% of the dishes listed are not being served. We ordered fish pasta which, while very tasty, was just above lukewarm, and fully lukewarm for one of my friends. It took another ten minutes for him to receive an actually warm dish. There is also no splitting of bills. Pastries for desert were okay. A bit too sugary. There were also cute Halloween ghosts 👻👻 / 👻👻👻👻👻

Simple and delicious, friendly service even though we don’t speak a word of Portuguese! The cod was fresh, tasty and came quickly, paired with a cheap glass of white wine it went down a treat, highly recommended!

👍👍 One of the oldest cafe in Lisbon, founded in 1905. You can choose from huge variety of sweets, bakery and pastry right at the showcase, and they all are fresh. Interior is amazing - feels like you got into antique library. Minimum bill would be around 15€

👍 Nice spot, cool interior, busy at all hours and with a great menu. Juices and smoothies are good, food is hit or miss. Eggs and burger weren’t perfect, but we tried other dishes and they were fine. Reservation is definitely recommended.
