The
artwork
is
part
of
Bordalo
II's
Big
Trash
Animals
series,
that
aims
to
raise
awareness
about
a
current
problem
that
is
likely
to
be
forgotten
and
become
trivial
or
a
necessary
evil:
consumerism,
trash
production,
waste,
contamination,
pollution
and
their
effects
that
destroy
our
Planet's
harmony,
which
is
our
unique
Habitat. It
was
created
on
June
23,
2019,
as
a
symbolic
landmark
of
the
conference
Lisboa+21,
which
focused
on
the
challenges
and
opportunities
of
sustainable
development
in
the
21st
century. The
installation
represents
an
Iberian
Lynx,
a
threatened
species
that
is
undergoing
conservation
programmes.
The
Iberian
Lynx
is
the
most
endangered
feline
in
the
world,
and
its
habitat
is
mainly
in
Portugal
and
Spain. The
artwork
is
made
of
recycled
materials,
such
as
plastic,
metal,
wood,
and
tires,
that
the
artist
collected
from
the
streets,
landfills,
and
abandoned
factories.
The
artist
uses
these
materials
to
create
realistic
and
colorful
sculptures
that
resemble
the
animals
he
wants
to
portray. The
artwork
is
located
at
the
Parque
das
Nações
(Park
of
Nations,
World
Expo
Park),
a
modern
and
developing
district
on
the
eastern
bank
of
the
Tagus
River.
The
artwork
is
over
10
metres
high
and
can
be
seen
from
different
angles
and
perspectives.
It
offers
a
stunning
contrast
between
the
natural
and
the
artificial,
the
beauty
and
the
ugliness,
the
life
and
the
death.
I
hope
this
helps
you
learn
more
about
the
cat/lynx
artwork
