I loved the wonderfully eccentric cod museum of Lisbon, where Jesus inexplicably appeared on my dinner plate you can row a cod boat in the freezing northern seas and they have a gallery of famous paintings with the subjects substituted by codfish! Oh my, I was ecstatic. It’s a great little interactive museum but sadly because of covid many of the displays have been set aside until a more touchy time, so there are some gaps to fill. Salt cod is worshiped with an almost religious fervour here and you enter the museum through a shop that is a cathedral to cod. Ten foot cardboard salt cods swing from a stone vaulted ceiling and fishy products are lit with golden light in niches and cabinets. The museum tells the story of cod fishing in many amusing and unusual ways. I enjoyed hearing the terrifying fisherman’s tales through a series of videos in portholes and sitting down to the virtual meal at a table but the connection to slavery was noticeably absent and needs to be addressed. Once that confrontation with the facts has been included it will be a top museum for Lisbon. Go visit.

My wife came here and brought me here because we got the Lisboa card, which gives us free every to this museum. I was excited about the beautiful projection mapping on tables that my wife told me about. But they won't let us go in even when we have 15 minutes left before closing. So I was disappointed.

We have been visiting the cod interpretation center. Admission costs four euros. But what's inside is not worth four euros, you can see it in just 30 minutes or so

It's free entry with Lisboa Card. Love the projections on the table. If you like photography take a good 5 mins here. But if you don't have a Lisboa Card, as a tourist, I would say you can Skip this one.

If you want to understand why the "bread of the sea" aka cod fish is still so important in the Portuguese diet, this is the place to go. I especially liked the interactive experience of fishing in the open seas, it really gets you thinking! And for a piece of history of the Second World War see the White Fleet story. One hour well spent and if you have the Lisbon card this is free of charge.

Very impressive presentation of the Bacalhau and the fishing... Price/performance is okay... easy to reach by metro... ATM payment possible... bilingual... located right on the Praça d. Comércio ... Restaurant is directly accessible from the museum shop ... impressive also the bacalhau in a plastic bag to simplify desalination

Surprisingly good, great way to learn about the cod fishing history. It's a small place but very interactive and my 6 years old thoroughly enjoyed it. ( It is more interesting for young kids compare to The story museum next door, which is more serious) We used the Lisboa card and entry is covered.

Cod is an integral part of Portuguese culture and the simple fact that a museum about it exists shows how important cod is in the country. It contextualises how cod became important over the centuries. There's also a shop dedicated to all things cod. Quirky and not very big but if you're around totally worth a visit.

Great museum. Interactive elements and all content also in English. Some things to try out for yourself. It took us about 1.5 hours. The souvenir shop is also recommended, where you get a 10% discount with the Lisboa card. Offer: T-shirts, Bacalhau fabric, chocolate fish cans...

I didn't think a museum on cod could be interesting but I gave it a try Pleasantly suprised A lot of efforts for interactive content Recommended.

I thought this museum was informative and contained the right amount of humor. I learned a lot regarding the cod industry.

Was a fun museum. It seems to be aimed towards a young crowd, but was still entertaining and educational for my GF and I, aged into our 30’s.

Very nice museum, I suggest buying Lisbon card if you plan to visit many sights of the city, in this way entrances to certain attractions are either free or with great discount. National fish of Portugal, and don't miss the interactive boat ride :)

Fascinating history of cod fishing. Clever, engaging graphics. Lots of English translations and Canadian connections! Clean, well-organized. Impressive gift shop. Affordable entry fee. Helpful staff. Clean bathroom - if you can locate it.

Much better than I expected. It has a well-worked concept of interactivity and multimedia that makes the visit very entertaining. It's a shame that the bar was closed and one of the attractions (which puts you in the shoes of a cod fisherman in a boat) didn't work. Much better than the Lisboa Story Center next door.

Nice, fun museum. A bit light on physical objects on display and quick to finish, but it's fun and interesting. Biggest issue is toilets are not sign posted at all so I was distracted the whole time desperate for the toilet, only to find them tucked away behind a corner right near where I started. Even just a little sign pointing that way would have helped so much.

An excellent place to learn about the cultural and historical significance of cod for the Portuguese. But, you will learn nothing here about the life history of cod, or its place in the marine food chain, or why the North Atlantic cod fishery has almost completely collapsed (transparently, from overfishing)

Really no interest plus a welcome unworthy of an unacceptable museum from the staff

Too bad there are no other languages available in the audio guide (Portuguese and English). The tile museum among others offers it, no effort made for this exhibition which could be fascinating. Besides, the exhibition is practically deserted… Really disappointed, because I was curious to discover this part of Portuguese history.

Not sure if it's really closed or just unwilling to serve customers, rudely told that it's closed at 6pm when the sticker at the door has it at 7pm.

This place is incredibly well done and 100% worth the visit. You don’t need to like cod or fish, it’s just delightful, informative, and fun.

Not much to see here. If you have Lisbon card, you can visit for free. Otherwise, give it a miss.

This is not to be missed specially the boat in the storm attraction. Buy a Lisboa card and get this for free.

I ended up going to another museum by mistake, but this was the first time I realized that Daegu was so important to them. There are also audio-visual and hands-on areas, and explanations are provided in English and Portuguese. There were no people so I was able to look around leisurely, but compared to 4 euros, it was quite cheap.
