I was really excited to attend this cafe as I live Malay food, been to Malaysia 7-8 times and eaten really good Malay in London. I am afraid this was not Malay food. Everything had about 20 teaspoons of sugar, in fact all the dishes we ordered were overloaded with sugar and I have never eaten Malay curries which were more sugar than flavour. The satay meat was ok but the home made sauce rustic peanut sauce lacked flavour and consistency. It was very rough and ready and again full of sugar. The Chicken pastries were hard and flavourless. Only the roti was passable as a bread but then these are bought frozen and heated up. A real shame as this could have been a staple restaurant we could attend regularly . This is clearly a restaurant for people who have never experienced real Malay cuisine.

Stopped here when we were on a trip to Leeds and wanted to have Malaysian for dinner. I must say this is Authentic Malaysian food. Ordered satay, nasi lemak, roti canai and beef rendang. I must say, the rendang was too good, Cooked perfectly. Generally rendang is not cooked well in restaurants because it takes time and restaurants do find shortcuts but here, the rendang was authentic and tasted amazing. The quantity of satay and the peanut sauce was generous. The nasi lemak was good as other dishes. The prices are reasonable. This is a small cozy cafe. There is free parking by the Bennet road. The service was good.

My favourite place to have food in Leeds. The food is incredible, never had anything like it in the UK. The dietary options are great with pretty much every dish having a veggie/vegan options. Staff are so friendly and prices are very reasonable. Could not recommend this place enough!

Great food, good location, and staffs are friendly too! I ordered two portion of nasi lemak, one with beef curry and the other with chicken special curry peranakan. I can easily say that it was one of the best I've had. Don't be afraid to try, it is not as spicy as it looks. It is creamy and fresh. Both of the beef and chicken are tender and tasty. Some other place might offer you a more intensely flavored nasi lemak but it will be too much if you got curry as rich as these. Don't forget to order teh ais (iced tea with condensed milk) and sirap bandung. Both are great for your summer day. Malaysian food might not be as famous as Thai (yet) but trust me it is just as great. Its like a blend of the good parts of everything in southeast Asia.

Visited Sunday 28 Aug Amazing Asian food. Extremely well presented and all items delicious. Very small place but they managed to slot us in even though we had accidentally booked their sister restaurant. Head waiter was so accommodating and made us feel really welcome. The dishes arrived promptly and were obviously home and hand made it seemed. Filling of the Karipap was light and spicy. The 2 main courses were simply delicious. Dark soy curry, Masak Kicap, had massive depth of flavour but beware of the whole star anise! Nyonya Lime Curry was selected with the jackfruit option, even though my guest isn't vegan and she said it was fantastic. The rice accompaniment with deep fried anchovies garnish was also ample, light and well cooked. We hadn't realised that there was no alcohol offered at this restaurant which was a surprise when we arrived and we would certainly have brought our own if we had known. However this did not spoil the evening as the apple juice and fresh orange was a welcome cool refreshment.

I enjoyed the coconut curry (no. 13) very well made with vegan chicken. The veggie spring rolls were good. The dessert and tea were a bit of a let down. About £5 for dessert, but was bland. The tea was also bland. I would have expected some spices e.g. cardamom in the tea, and a bit more flavour from the rolls. The dessert seemed microwaved, not freshly made, and much lacking in flavour (and portion pretty small). Owner is very pleasant and had a nice convo here tho. Might check out the other KL Cafe nearby.

This is brilliant! The staff were lovely and the premises were spotless. Lovely quaint little cafe. The food was lovely and it all came out really quickly. It was so filling and the portions were perfect! I had the Tofu Remdang curry (number 13), and the Tofu Sambal (number 3 in the menu). I really recommend it. The dish was fresh flavourful and well balanced. I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend everyone to visit this lovely place.

Had lovely food and good quantity as well as quality. We went around 3pm so had less rush. Really impressed with the food, nice blend of flavours and even Tea was also top notch. We had Beef rendang and Chicken curry (forgot name). Both had different taste and if you want spicy they will make it normal asian spicy level. Overall highly recommend this place and will definitely come back again to try other dishes.

Visited a few times and loved it every time. Ordered a take-away from them due to lockdown. Was happy to see that their dishes are still amazing even as a takeaway. The dark soy curry with Duck was delicious- I loved the cardamom. And they do traditional chicken satay which is worth having. We'll be ordering again soon :)

I ordered the chicken satay and nasi lemak with beef rendang and my boyfriend ordered the karipap and nasi lemak with masak merah chicken. The chicken satay was not like any other satay I've had before. The sauce was THICK and had texture to it. It was fragrant and moreish. The chicken thighs were JUICY. After eating the chicken, I was still going back to scoop up the sauce. I definitely had more than my fair half - God it was delicious. I also tried the karipap, and whilst my boyf preferred this to the satay, I have to say it wasn't my favourite. I found the pastry too thick for my liking. I found the nasi lemak a feast for the eyes, with lots of different garnishes to look at all contributing different textures and flavours. I loved the deep fried anchovies for providing a salty crunchy punch to the dish. The beef rendang was very rich and the beef was tender and it was great. This place offered generous portions (I was already full from the starters 😭), great service and all at a very reasonably price whereby two starters, two mains and two drinks costed us around £30 altogether. We even had to request a box for our leftovers, which future us would come to appreciate.

First visit and what a fantastic experience it was. 3 different starters chosen and 4 mains between 4 of us. More than enough to eat and the quality and taste of the food was really excellent. If I didn't live 80 miles away I'd definitely be on first name terms with the very pleasant staff. Well worth a visit for sure if you like good tasty food cooked well

I ordered food from Kuala Lumpur Cafe after reading a good review in the Leeds Live. I received my order in less than half an hour which was a good start. It went downhill from there on. Chicken satay was burnt black and covered with the sauce that was inedible. The Nasi Lemak dry curry was dry chicken swimming in a flavourless sauce. I got a portion of rice that I hadn’t ordered, which I think was an apology of sorts but I would not recommend. My first taste of Malaysian cuisine and it was horrid. I’m not giving up on Malay food though. If it means travelling there to eat authentic food. The two stars are for the “apology.” It would have been one star. At this rate my food delivery apps are getting deleted.

Today was our first time at Kuala Lumpur Cafe and our experience exceeded all expectations. My partner and I are both vegetarian and the KLC offered a variety of vegan and vegetarian options (which were amazing). Wonderful service and a fantastic first experience with Malaysian food! We will be back again soon⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Good Malaysian food 👍 As a Malaysian I’ve been looking forward to trying KL Cafe. I ordered the ayam masak kicap nasi lemak and tofu sambal. The nasi lemak: Great flavours, the sambal is great and the condiments are ‘cukup rasa’. However I feel like the rice itself could have more coconut milk or ginger as it tastes a bit bland than how I usually have it, Ayam masak kicap: Great flavours! Close to the one at home! Would love it to be less watery and more thick but the flavours are great nonetheless Tofu sambal: Ordered it bc I thought it would be like sambal tauhu back home but it’s very different. Very pleasantly surprised with the taste although it’s not what i usually have Great order overall!

We visited this evening and had the most delicious dinner. Lovely staff, excellent service and the food was so delicious. Value for money is brilliant - two courses for less than £15 each. Portion sizes were great as well. The restaurant is really relaxed! Looking forward to supporting them through the impending lockdown, by ordering a take away or two.

Kuala Lumpur Café is a Malaysian restaurant Headingley. It is a small, tucked away restaurant, but it is packed with flavor. The menu features a wide variety of Malaysian dishes and there are also plenty of vegan options available. The food at Kuala Lumpur Café is delicious and authentic. The flavors are bold and complex, although could be spicier. The sambal was a bit disappointing. The portions are decent, could be bigger, and the prices are very reasonable. The service at Kuala Lumpur Café is friendly and attentive. Overall, Kuala Lumpur Café is a great place to try authentic Malaysian food. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I recommend it.

Best quality Malaysian food I have ever tasted in the UK. Very simple decor, quite small so recommend booking if in a party of more than two. Very friendly staff, food came quickly. BYOB with no corkage is definitely a bonus if you drink alcohol. A nice range of non alcoholic drinks is available. Food is ridiculously fresh and tasty. Nasi lemak is served as standard with main dishes, delicious. The roti canai was so good we ordered extra portions....

This was my third time at KL Cafe restaurant, and yet again it did not disappoint. I went for dinner for my birthday meal last night and had a truly lovely time, we had the whole upstairs to ourselves and it really did feel like I had hired out the restaurant. Everyone enjoyed there food and said the atmosphere was lovely, the waitress even turned on the fairy lights for us which added a level of ambience that was truly comforting. The staff as always were so kind, accommodating and simply very sweet-mannered. I think this restaurant is such a hidden gem that most people do not know about, and I think many people lack the experience of Malaysian food, which is truly to die for! Malaysia has such a rich culture, and having travelled to Kuala Lumpur in the summer, I can confidently say that this restaurant does their cuisine the justice it deserves. If you are looking to try something new and explosive with flavour, then give this restaurant a visit and help out a small family owned business!

Upon being greeted we immediately felt welcome and comfortable. The aesthetics may be limited but the manners and warm smiles are far from it. We sat down and ordered a two courses, the first of which arrived promptly. Spring rolls which were packed well. The main course wasn't far behind which was great, I even sent my compliments to the chef. Would highly recommend you support this small local business, tucked away in the bowels of Headingley. Hope this helps

Excellent Malaysian food. They make a flaky and crispy roti canai and the nasi lemak with nyonya curry was fragrant and full of tender chicken chunks. The chicken satay is well seasoned and has plenty of peanut of sauce.

Lovely dining experience. A clean and well run restaurant. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Face masks worn at all times. Food is tasty and service was excellent. You can even bring your own booze. I need to ask for my food to be extra spicy next time, as I feel like it could be taken up a notch with the spicy heat!!

Came across KL Cafe just over a year ago. Numerous visits and takeaways later and it's safe to say that it's my favourite local restaurant. They have numerous vegan options including chicken, beef and duck mock-meats so you're not stuck with limited or bland meat-free alternatives. Always incredible service and amazing food. Would recommend to anyone in the area who wants to get their hands on tasty, authentic Malaysian scran.

Dined as a party of 5, shared some starters and all had a main meal each which came to £80. Which Is absolutely amazing considering the quality of the food. We ALL thoroughly enjoyed it, full of flavour, was cooked to perfection. The fish curry is a must, but I do not think anything on the menu would have disappointed. We had a really lovely chat with the owner after we had our meal. He told us that everything on menu was his mother's recipes and that she lives in Malaysia, he did say he had to tone down the spices for our pallet haha. Couldn't resist giving them a cuddle before we left because they really are just lovely people. I will be back soon. Thank you so much.

When you need a Malaysian and Singapore food in Leeds, this is the place to go! The nasi lemak was cooked perfectly, the sambal not spicy enough as they had to tweaked it alot to cater for the local. Would love if their sambal could come in level of spiciness. The roti canai and curry puff is a must try ! Tip: call the restaurant for reservations before heading there as they are always busy especially during dinner time.a

What a lovely little business this is. The manager went to so much effort to make a fuss for my friends 30th birthday! With decorations and cake with a candle. They have a genuine passion for their business and the food - which is unbelievably tasty!!! The meat alternatives are like nothing I've tried before. Fantastic! I couldn't recommend this place more and it felt great to give money to a hard working independent business.
