Excellent gardens and walks to the lake, an abundance of plants and trees in lovely surroundings, this is a place that is constantly changing as more plants and trees are blooming and being added. The Chinese garden will look amazing when completed. The cafe serves excellent food, very good choices, from a snack to a meal. The garden centre is well stocked with helpful staff. The shop has a wide range of gifts, garden ware and local food and drinks.

A great day out, fantastic, inspirational. Definitely recommend booking on one of the tours, especially the walled garden tour....very informative and interesting. Everyone is very friendly and helpful a great place to visit again and again and watch the 158 acres grow along with the RHS. Hard to believe the gardens have only been open just over a year...and there's more to be done.

We came to the dog walking evening on the 27th of June. We had wanted to visit the gardens since they opened but this gave us, and our furry friends, the ideal opportunity to explore. What a resounding success it seemed to be. We absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the next one in July. Everybody we spoke to said the same as us. The gardens themselves are beautiful and we all enjoyed exploring. It is a place that is ever changing and I would like to see it in the different seasons. I really hope the dog friendly evenings remain a regular thing.

I'm a Blue Badge holder and was pleased to see a good number of dedicated spaces available. The entrance foyer is open and spacious and the toilets are easy to access and spotless. I visited with my daughter and paid £24 to access the gardens. I believe I could've bought and annual membership for less than £50 (covers the member and 1 guest for unlimited visits) and on reflection, I should've opted for this. The gardens are still being developed but there's plenty to see and the landscaping around the water is stunning. We enjoyed a very peaceful walk and made good use of the benches that are plentiful. There was a huge winding queue at the cafe which we decided against. (This was on a relatively quiet day too.) I also thought the garden centre was a little pricey but the indoor shop had a good selection of gifts with affordable treats for children. Well worth a visit.

We recently visited Bridgewater and enjoyed it for the most part. Booking ahead is recommended and arrival close to opening time means you're shown to a parking lane by marshals. Upon entry to the main building there is a shop, toilets, cafe and coffee bar. Turn right to go through the shop, past that is the cafe and then the garden centre. The shop is very large and has to adhere to Sunday trading laws so bare that in mind when visiting on a weekend. The cafe can get very busy, so it's worth eating before entering the gardens. The food in the cafe is good quality and caters for most diets, with indoor and outdoors seating next to a pleasant lake. If you want to skip the queue and only want coffee and cake, there is a small coffee bar hidden down near the garden centre. The garden centre is large, well stocked, but strangely didn't seem to have much in the line of garden ornaments. Back to the main entrance and you turn left to go into the gardens. The gardens give the impression they're not finished, but have plenty of plants and flowers to look at if they're your type of thing. There's also a small refreshments caravan in the gardens if you don't want to queue in the cafe. Past the gardens is a large kids playground in the woods, with a view over a small pig farm. The worst bit of Bridgewater for me was the woodland walk after the kids playground. Whilst it's nice, it's mostly trees and weeds with a few iron fences marking the boundary thrown in. As someone who loves nature and the outdoors, it's just not that interesting and a little dull. Lastly, due to the proximity to a local airfield, the constant noise of light aircraft overhead can be a distraction for those wanting a quiet day out. Compared to other RHS locations, Bridgewater feels a little more busy and less serene. Hopefully they will improve the woodland walk and it would feel a more complete package for a day out.

A lovely oasis of well-tended gardens very close to Manchester with easy access from the M60. There is ample easy and free parking. This is our second visit post-pandemic and we thoroughly enjoyed once again strolling around the various themed garden areas, particularly the walled gardens. Whilst there’s a lot of open space within the grounds much of it is still in development. In reality it is within and around the walled garden, including the greenhouses, that makes the visit worthwhile; there’s really not a great deal to see further afield. The labelling of plants is very helpful. The paths are wide and well designed. We had a good late lunch at the cafe at the back of the gardens, though there is a wasp problem. We took time to rest on some of the many well-placed benches and contemplate pretty and uplifting views in almost every direction. The other cafe near the entrance is too busy and noisy for our liking with a huge queue on a Saturday afternoon. The gift shop is well-stocked and interesting with books and ideas for gifts but the best part is the outdoor plant sales area. This is far better stocked and organised than all of the garden centres and nurseries around our home area. We also liked the idea of displaying plants for sale grouped by those that can be found in the different sections of the gardens. Great idea! All in all a wonderful day out and we left brimming with ideas for our own garden, very glad we came.

Love this place. Absolutely stunning scenery. Flowers, trees, pretty paths and arches. Educational for both adults and children and they have a lovely Play-area In the woods which my boys loved. It’s great in the day time and during Christmas we also attended an event called glow which was in the dark with lights along all the paths and trees. They had stalls too selling hotdogs and mulled wine. It was gorgeous 😊 (I even got proposed to there so it will always be a special place to us ! )

A really fabulous day here. Beautiful gardens and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The walled gardens were lovely with so many different areas, veg, sunflowers, pools and community areas. The children's play area was excellent with plenty to climb, swing and explore. There was a path around Ellesmere Lake and views over the wild meadow to the canal, this then lead into the Chinese garden which was outstanding. We had a great day with 3 boys aged 7 & 12. You can see that so much hard work has gone into making the gardens beautiful again.

Still a work in progress, but I can see it will be lovely. Nice easy walk around the lake, good kids play area in the woods. This early in March not much in the way of plants to see, but the attached garden centre (with nice house plants too) and cafe with views over the lake were great.

Really Lovely day spent here with young children. Completely lost the whole day in a very good way. It went so quickly. Kids loved exploring and discovering all of the the nature, trails, play areas, woodland kitchens, fairy houses, flowers, veggies, bugs and water features. The Lloyd of the flies trail was very good fun, took us a couple of goes to get the hang of it but the kids had great fun creating funny pictures with the characters. The hot food in the main cafe was lovely and good quality, we had a really lovely lunch sat next to the large pond watching the moorhens. I’d highly recommend bringing water bottles and plenty of your own snacks for kids though. We wouldn’t have made the whole day without them. There are lots of lovely cakes perfect for an afternoon tea break. The Stables cafe was closed for maintenance not sure when it will be open again. The woodland play area is far stretching and brilliant. We worked our way round everything else at bridgewater before getting to the play area which went great. If you struggle to get the kids off the playground usually I recommend doing the same. It’s such a good area to play they won’t want to leave. A very good day out.

A fabulous place to visit. Lots of different gardens, spectacular plants to see. Walking trails around the woods were so good to get away from the crowds. The Hydrangeas were spectacular, and so enjoyed the hothouse with the fruit and veg growing in it. Lovely modern main building, with a great restaurant and lovely big plant centre and gift shop. We caught the shuttle bus from the centre of Manchester, a great way to arrive.

If you like gardens, then this is the place for you. Quite an amazing array of plants in the latest garden from the RHS. Only really being developed in the last few years, so some areas are a work in progress, but definitely worth a look. Bring your own food, as catering is quite limited and expensive, they are not used to dealing with crowds of people. Good garden center with prices quite reasonable but sadly no discount for members of RHS.

Spent a lovely few hours could have spent longer. The walled garden is so big. The Chinese area will be magnificent once completed with pergola and pavilion. To do it justice need a full day, plenty of places to get things to eat and drink or take a picnic and find spot in shade. Many areas still to be planted but considering that only been open a couple of years it is well worth visit. Plant centre has good selection well set out.

Visited here when I was feeling slightly down and was so pleased I did as it was a fantastic day out with lots to see. You don't have to be interested in gardening or plants to enjoy this place (though it certainly helps). You can spend anywhere from one to three or maybe four hours exploring.

Fantastic I use a mobility scooter and could just get a out everywhere. Gardens well planned and the plant spectrum is fabulous. Took a picnic but they have outside cafe as well and easy coffee truck area inside. We went on a hot day but plenty of tree shade great family day out.

We went to RHS Glow on a Wednesday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. The gardens were lit stunningly and it was a perfect way to start the festive season. In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we walked around a second time! The staff were friendly and helpful and it was just a really enjoyable evening. If you want to see the trees and plants in a totally different light, definitely try out Glow.

Beautiful relaxing gardens with plenty to see. It was good to see plenty of benches. I liked seeing the plant name labels. I am looking forward to when they have developed their Chinese garden. Lovely bright airy main building, but I was really surprised by how narrow the entrance to the ladies toilets was - bit of a squeeze when people are washing their hands on one side and others want to come in. It was a busy day though, so plenty of visitors (to the gardens, not just the toilets!) Very helpful friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.

Stunning. Incredible gardens, brilliant place for all to enjoy. The play area is also fantastic for kids of all ages! And the food is delicious. Such a good idea using wasp traps in the garden (may be a good idea to dot some about the outdoor cafe area at the main site)

Whilst the gardens did not disappoint there is still room for improvement as they develop over time. Currently there are building works in the Japanese garden where there will be new pagodas. Despite it being busy there was plenty of space for all. We were glad we took a packed lunch to eat on one of the many seats as there were very long queues for the restaurant. It would be nice to see some formal planting areas and not just the modern ideal of wild beds. Would like to return in a couple of years to see the progress.

Brilliant! Didn't enjoy the making of the garden TV series and therefore wanted to finally visit to see the product. The gardens are stunning, beautifully maintained and staffed. The visitor block and all the other amenity buildings are beautifully designed and adapted. And best of all, all of the staff without exception are truly wonderful. Thanks to everyone for making this a special visit for myself and my mother. We asked for a wheelchair, which was handed over with instruction and advice. It made such a difference to the distance we could get around.

Fabulous to have the fifth RHS garden on my doorstep and this is my second visit. I am clinically vulnerable but they made this a safe experience for me. Staff are friendly and courteous. The garden is a triumph of planned informality and well in tune with the fashionable cottage garden style. Millions of bees are attracted to the riot of colour. The lake is wonderful to walk around and plenty of benches for resting and picnicking. Looking forward to seeing it evolve.

A lovely serene gardens, lakes and wooded areas to walk around. It's still quite a new place and some areas are still being progressed and developed. But overall, a very pretty place to wander around. There is an onsite cafe/restaurant, but this can get extremely busy, especially at lunchtime. Expect long queues and a run on the food items you want.

Relaxing garden and woodland space with small grassed areas to sit and a few benches. Lovely cafe which you don’t have to pay to get into, and you can sit by the pond outside too! Nice on a warm day. Waited in line for food but lots of seating at least if the weather is good. Gardens are fantastic and very interesting if you’re a gardener yourself.

Great place to visit. Love the hydrangea trials. Definitely worth a day out. Only issue I noticed there are only 2 bus times in the morning and 2 returning to Manchester. Could have done with a few more departure times. Dangling your feet in the lily pond was a good touch too. The car free reduction in entry fee was a good touch too.

A new RHS garden with masses of potential. Still undergoing work but well worth a visit. It will be great to watch it evolve over the coming years. They have achieved so much since acquiring the property, well done to all involved. We will definitely be visiting again.

A visit in July, so plenty of plant interest. The garden is maturing, so be prepared for that. The planting may disappoint some, as it is done in what I guess is called modern...grasses, perennials allowed to seed. If you want a traditional ornamental garden you may be disappointed. I enjoyed the freedom given to the plants. I understand this whole area was once teeming with wildlife, as it was an abandoned large house and grounds, so I understand the resentment brought on by the construction work. I hope the works done to return many areas to nature will pay off. Advice..take a picnic. The queues for food were long. The garden's open until 6.00 pm and quieter after 4.00, except that on our visit there was a special opening for dogs and owners. This spoilt the peace, and so we upped and left as some of us, believe it or not, don't want to share every moment with dogs.

Nice gardens, but tbh I’ve been in equally nice ones at NT properties although admittedly not as big, then again at NT properties you frequently have the additional attraction of the house, which isn’t the case here as Worsley New Hall has long since been demolished. I found reading about the history of the place interesting & to be fair they have done a decent enough job of rejuvenating the site. There are a couple of surviving buildings from the estate, the Cottage & the Bothy, though you cannot go in either of these which I thought was disappointing. Didn’t bother with food here, plenty of previous reviews warning about poor value for money so I took heed of them!

Beautiful place that is impressive whilst in progress. There are so many places to sit and relax amongst the meadows or grasses and the Chinese Garden is beautiful at the moment and who doesn't love a kitchen garden? Will definitely be back. Don't forget to pre book and choose what time you eat as the queues can be rather large, but the service staff seem to have it under control and work well together. Recommend the Cheese & Tomato quiche. Gorgeous.

Brilliant new garden by the RHS which is still to be further developed in the next few years. At the moment it includes a large walled garden with all sorts of flowers, shrubs and vegetables, with adjacent greenhouses with grape vines and fruit trees. There are many pleasant areas where you can sit and enjoy the garden. A Chinese Garden is almost complete with a stream running through it with lovely planting all around it. There is a large lake (Ellesmere lake) which is partially reclaimed from nature, with further plans to carry on this work. There are woodland walks with several children's adventure playgrounds with different activities. The entrance building is of sustainable construction with an impressive timber frame of columns and roof beams. A restaurant and shop is located in this building offering gifts and many of the plants from the gardens. During our visit there were large queues at the restaurant at lunch time, although they moved reasonably quickly. You can then relax and enjoy lunch overlooking a large water feature adjacent to the building.

Wow. Absolutely loved our trip here. So much more of the old house land to develop, but what's been done already is amazing. Particularly loved the walled garden and the sheer variety of plants you can see there. The Chinese Garden was a bit underwhelming and has been left partly finished for a number of years now - hopefully that will get done as/when funding becomes available. The staff we interacted with were lovely and had some good tips and hints. Only challenges: //You need to book electric scooters well in advance. //There's no mobile signal to activate the EV chargers, and you have to start the charge with the cable unplugged, so you end up running from the entrance building back to the car. //£4.50 for an almond croissant (niche I know) is absurdly expensive. There isn't much choice for food if money is a challenge for you.

Please like if helpful👍 Thought we'd just go and check things out before booking for a visit in the gardens. I'm very impressed with all the facilities I've seen so far. Good car parking facilities with plenty of disabled spaces close to the main building. Inside is a garden centre with an attractive gift shop with a varied selection of really nice items for sale, then a large café with plenty of seating and choice of snacks, beyond which is the semi covered outdoor garden centre selling plants, bushes and garden implements. Based on what I've seen I imagine the park itself will be superb and I shall be booking asap.

An exceptional treat for those interested in all things horticultural. Landscapes and floral displays to usual high standards of the RHS and despite still in early stages of development the flora and fauna does not disappoint. Pre booking is recommended. Tuesdays can be very busy. Excellent wheelchair access/ disabled facilities. Excellent for children & early learning. Only reservation: Cafe/Restaurant well above average prices. Recommend take a packed lunch and grab a seat or picnic bench in the many beautiful settings. Ample parking

RHS Garden Bridgewater is a beautiful and spectacular location to visit for all horticulture and nature enthusiasts. The walled garden is extensive and the Chinese gardens will be amazing once fully landscaped. The lake is spectacular too. There is a shop, cafe and toilet facilities on site as well as charging for electric vehicles in the car park Bridgewater is a joy to visit, and I would highly recommend visiting for a day out.

Visited for the first time today. RHS Bridgewater is my third RHS garden, they are all so different, but Bridgewater is amazing in its own right. I loved seeing everything still coming together, it makes me excited about future visits to see the changes (mostly the lake and the Chinese streamside garden). Also the autumnal colours were stunning! The woodland play area looks like great fun for children, the walled gardens were beautiful and will be even more stunning in the spring and summer. The garden centre and shop aren't too big or overwhelming so you do have time to get round them after going round the garden.

I found this garden to be well worth visiting. It is the newest garden owned by the RHS and they have certainly made every effort to ensure that the visitors have an interesting time. I particularly liked the Chinese Streamside Garden which is very well landscaped. There is a shop selling a wide range of items plus a plant nursery with some quite reasonably priced plants. There are. Couple of cafes there but they were very busy when I was there so I did not have the opportunity to sample the food. It never ceased to amaze me that this garden has developed so much since it was started in 2017 and there are still plans to expand it further. Well worth a visit.

A beautiful place, in its infancy but coming on a treat. A place full of wonderful contrasts: inspiring cultivated gardens alongside wild, bee-attracting meadows; peaceful babbling brooks leading to challenging play areas. There is something for everyone here. You can spend a whole day and not get bored- or hungry as there are a variety of big and small dining places, with refreshments at reasonable prices, not to mention Halal choices. Delightful place, well worth a visit. Great value if you take up the special offer on joining RHS!

This was a really interesting garden to visit, it was in December and it was my first visit and a good time to visit the garden for the first time as you can see the structure of the garden. There is several areas each with it's own feel. The majority of the planting is herbaceous so can't wait to visit it in the summer when there will be more too see. There's a nice display showing the construction of the garden and the principles behind it. Plenty of parking on site with lot's of disabled bays.

To visit a garden in autumn seems silly, but we were so wrong. The planting is brilliant, the autumn colours are just stunning in every corner you explore. I expected to be somewhat underwhelmed visiting a predominantly flat site that is only a few years old but again I was so wrong. They have very cleverly built in structure and form around the few remaining bits of the original garden walls and buildings. It's a must to visit.

Beautiful day at RHS Bridgewater. There is plenty of parking. The RHS building itself is stunning, sits beautifully in the gardens and architecturally is striking. The tulips have just started to come out. Admittedly, most of the flowers are not out yet so in a couple of months most will be in full bloom. The gardens are impeccably kept with lots of volunteers on site. The staff are very friendly and courteous.

What an amazing place. Beautiful planting and such a lot of interesting plants to keep any gardener redesigning their own patch of green. The children play areas in the forest are magical. The Alice in Wonderland theme is also a great way to occupy the young and old alike. The Chinese water garden rippling down from the upper lake is so beautiful and serene. Food was good, plant centre impossible to resist and the staff were delightful. Extremely highly recommended. Not overly expensive so definitely one for a day trip. We were there for 4 hours.

Quite a wonderful experience. It was pouring with rain; I hate rain; I was drenched by the time we got back to the main building but... impressed by remarkable collection of plants in the Chinese Streamside Garden and the Walled Garden. Great coffee and eating places, good gift shop and plant centre. Note... recycled rain water used in toilets: don't be shocked by colour! (I was...)

A lovely oasis of calm close to the city. Beautiful surroundings with walking trails and a few different play areas for the kids. There are also at least 2 cafés to enjoy as you stroll around. We visited in autumn and the woodland walks were wonderful on a bright sunny day. I think this place will only get better as the gardens develop and mature.

  • 5/5 David L. 10 months ago on Google
RHS Bridgewater offers you an opportunity to take a leisurely wander through the gardens and grounds or a speedier visit... There is something for everyone and every visit. Returning throughout the year offers the opportunity to see the garden in different states of beauty and allows the visitor to see the gardens maturing with the seasons. The cafes are great and offer a good selection but be prepared to queue at busier times. And, if parking, keep a note of where you left the car...it's easy to lose a vehicle once the place fills up. It is a location you can easily cycle to, but check out which route is best from your location.

Had a really lovely day out! My visit lasted about four and a half hours but I could easily have spent even longer. The flowers, colour combinations, texture combinations, etc. were both beautiful and inspirational. There are areas still being developed and some areas that I missed seeing - I could have done with more of a set route that took you everywhere! I would also have liked to have seen more plants with name labels as there were some real beauties but I left not knowing what they were. We didn't eat in the cafés but they looked good and fairly priced and there are plenty of picnic areas to eat your own food. There is a well stocked garden centre and shop. I enjoyed the day so much that I ended up joining the membership so, now, I can visit free of charge and see the gardens through all the seasons of the year!

Lovely gardens, beautiful flowers alot of work has gone into the landscaping here in a short space of time, so all credit to those doing it. There is a lovely cafe overlooking the lake and a small garden centre. Plenty of parking. It's not cheap but a nice experience

Atmosphere is lovely. Still relatively early days in development of site with work continuing in the Chinese water garden where experts from China are constructing traditional buildings. But enormous strides have been made over the very short time that the RHS have had the site. Modern approaches in planting and growing sustainably in the face of climate changes underpin this site. Appreciation of, and working with the natural world is evident. Community engagement in the allotment gardens also demonstrates contemporary RHS values. Superb refreshment areas. Particularly liked the huge visitors reception area with expansive decking that seems to float over a lake. A smaller site than some other RHS gardens but it certainly provides a good day out. Would just suggest a few more seats around the site would be good for less mobile visitors.

Beautiful gardens. I went with my daughter who is a member and granddaughter. Was a lovely few hours walking around the well maintained grounds. We also visited the main restaurant and has a lovely lunch too. I can't wait to visit in the summer now.

Such a beautiful place and a lovely day out!! Just the queue in the main cafe was madness, although we did see another cafe further in the gardens, it wasn't open yet, but will be visiting again in summer time when everything has bloomed 😁

The community gardens are lovely to see. Some of the gardens are in their infancy but plenty to explore. History buildings are interesting. Lovely cafe with homemade food. Nice selection of gifts in the shop.

We bought an annual family pass and have used it several times now over the seasons, and it’s wonderful to see the gardens changing. Bridgewater is beautifully done and a joy to visit. The gardens themselves are wonderful and the shop and garden centre are great. The stables cafe is fabulous - if you can get in - and the main building cafe and terrace are pretty good too. Being a member is worthwhile, not only because you’re supporting the RHS and getting a years worth of visitors, but you also get access to other RHS gardens, a regular magazine delivered as well as discounted, early access to ticketed events as well as regular offers and discounts. There’s plenty of parking and accessibility is very good. Booking your admission ticket ahead is recommended. Also, the food outlet queues at lunchtime ls are lengthy but they do go down. Avoid peak times if you can.
