Named because traders could only do business here is if they swore allegiance to the English Crown, therefore many Irish refused to do so. A very bustling indoor marketplace with all local produce available for sale, and an upstairs seated cafe.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the English Market, as someone who generally enjoys going to markets as we travel. There's not much variety inside, and it seems like they've lost some of their vendors over the year. The market is predictably a little cramped, and you'll find yourself needing to push through people who are waiting/browsing stalls. We were hoping to find something for lunch, but couldn't find anything that looked worth our time. There are multiple entrances to the market, none of which are prominently labeled. The market is a big rectangle, and there is an entrance about in the middle of each side/street.

What a gem in the heart of Cork City! It's so wonderful to buy local produce from the wonderful stalls inside. Everything looks delicious, so make sure you have a good few euros in your pocket if you're planning on visiting! I bought cheese, jams, bread, coffee, pudding, honey, and relishes from several of the stalls in there and all the sellers are so friendly and informative when you ask them about cooking instructions, how to store them, etc. You could browse there all day! I plan on taking the train back down for a few more visits this year, solely for this Market. Keep up the wonderful work!

Probably the top spot to visit when in Cork. Great atmosphere. Great selection of shops. Really pleasant vendors. Cafes weren't open due to restrictions so I might need to visit again when everything reopens!

Did my tourist bit and absolutely love it. Recommended if you like markets. Very fresh food offered here with an amazing variety, from fruits, veg to bakery and pastry. We had a freshly made hot dog and it's tasty.

3/4 of the stalls were closed on a weekday afternoon; the ones still open had some items that would be of interest to a local but not to a tourist. There was nothing redeeming inside and I was done with it in 10 mins.

Created in 1788 got to love this place a great Market in the heart of the City. Food stalls of vast origins. Scents and smells that bekon you in. It's only then that the knowledge of the foods begin. You have flavours and colours smiling faces and happy shoppers. Meats and treats and nick nacks. Pots and pans bread and jams clothing bedding and sheets fish with funny teeth from ships of varies fleets. Variety's of veg and fruit you will most definitely find something to suit. Hand made chocolates and cafe soups. Hard workers up at the dawn to sell and greet without even a yawn welcoming the crowds in from the streets. Great people they are to meet A treasure in the heart of this Cork City Street. Something for everyone at the English Market in Cork City and County.

Lovely market with cheeses, meats, bread, and more. I went around 2:30pm on a Monday and it was not too crowded. I recommend getting a vegan cake at the shop next to the fountain- the mocha one I had was delicious! Would not recommend getting produce here, though- had a bad experience with some dry oranges from the fruit and vegetable shop.

If you love food, this is the best market in Cork, possibly Ireland. It has every kind of gourmet product you could wish for: butchers, fishmongers, cheesemongers and purveyors of fine wine. The stall holders are friendly and seriously knowledgeable, just ask. This is a market Cork is justly proud of, as the produce screams quality! If you're in doubt, ask Queen Elizabeth she visited in 2011.

It’s smaller than other city markets we’ve been to. They have good selection of things to eat. We had a great sausage sandwich at a small kiosk. We ordered the Original and it was great!

Love this place! A must visit when in Cork! Being from Seattle, very reminiscent of Pike Place Market but with more food vendors. Great setting and had some awesome entertainment during our visit.

I read a review saying the English Market was, "great for locals, but not so much for tourists". A ridiculous review. That's what makes this 230-plus-year-old market amazing. The fresh seafood, produce, meats, and fowl are incredible and it makes you wish modern supermarkets had this quality and charm.

Great shopping experience, buy a cooler bag and request ice from fish monger, even eat fresh oysters. We saw fresh catch getting wheeled in. Lots of variety of veggies, breads, meats and upstairs you have some sit down eating options.

Lovely place to check out local fresh foods. But if you have a sensitivity to the smell of fish, this is not the place for you. It can be a little overwhelming as the smell permeates outside the venue, but we found it worthwhile to check out what was inside.

Very lively place with lots to see. A lot of butcher and fish mongers here, so interesting to see but not for purchasing items. Lots of other markets within the building including a restaurant up stairs. Definitely worth a visit

If you need fresh veg and fruit, want to buy a quick pie or cheesecake, this is a great place to visit. Also, if you have never really been to an English Marketplace it is cool to see for that purpose.

The English Market has a wide selection of high-quality goods, so you may discover a variety of ingredients to complete your dish. I was mesmerised by the incredibly fresh oysters we discovered in the fish store, which were also extremely reasonably priced.
