I booked the afternoon tea as a treat for my sister and niece as we hadn't seen each other for nearly two years because of covid. The castle and grounds were beautiful. We were seated in the conservatory with lovely views to the gardens. Service was quick once we were seated but then we were left for a long period before anyone returned. Actually we had to go find a waitress to ask for more tea! For a 4 star hotel, I was very disappointed with the service and the actual afternoon tea. We were served cream which was sour with the scones and were not offered extra scones! I would not recommend the afternoon tea and would not return there!

The grounds here are lovely, and the hotel offers several activities for anyone staying for an extended period of time. The hotel itself is quite dated, which comes with its charm. However, the rooms lack air conditioning, making trying to sleep at night quite a challenge. The hotel has a few fans available, but not enough for every room. We overlooked the main entrance courtyard, which led to some considerable noise as people left the restaurant/bar in the evening or went outside to smoke. All the staff was very friendly and helpful, which helped us overlook the datedness of the rooms themselves. We did not eat at the restaurant, but we did stop by the bar for a drink. Given how small the property is, we were impressed by the selection available and enjoyed our chats with the bartenders about spirits and travels. Getting to the island is a little quirky because there is nobody there to guide you along the way. You pull up to the ferry location and wait for the ferry to arrive. Once it does, let any cars off the boat, then drive on and begin stacking cars following the numbers painted on the boat (1,2,3). You'll eventually reach the other side, and once the ferry has stopped, you are free to drive off and head toward the hotel. If you plan to stay at the hotel, I would definitely recommend driving if you are able.

Had to cancel booking the day before due to family health emergency. No one expressed any sympathy, humanity or understanding. They just kept referring to the 72 hour cancellation policy and took 319 euro out of my account regardless. I understand the need for cancellation policies but this feels more like daylights robbery...

My husband and I got married at Waterford Castle and from the moment we began working with Gillian and the Waterford Castle team, the entire planning process was seamless. The venue itself was absolutely stunning. The castle's ambiance and elegance created the perfect backdrop for our celebration. The red carpet leading up to the entrance added an extra touch of grandeur and made us feel like royalty. The culinary experience at our wedding was nothing short of exceptional. The food was simply exquisite, and we received countless compliments from our guests about the delicious menu. The attention to detail in the presentation and the impeccable service from the wait staff truly elevated the dining experience to a whole new level. Furthermore, we were incredibly impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the bar staff. A number of our guests mentioned the bar staff by name and how incredible they were. We appreciated them even supporting the sing-along when the crowd was searching for lyrics! The suites were incredible, what an amazing place for the bridesmaids to get ready - even the hair stylist remarked that this was her favorite venue to work at for that reason. Gillian, our wedding coordinator showed dedication, passion, and expertise in making our wedding day so extraordinary. The whole team's hard work and commitment to excellence were evident in every aspect of the event. We are forever grateful to them for creating an unforgettable experience for us and our guests.

I was a wedding guest here recently and had a lovely time on the island. The castle is such a beautiful building and the surroundings and wildlife are gorgeous. We stayed in a lodge which was comfortable and spacious. Would definitely go back there and stay again.

Beautiful castle, second time there after a visit in 2012 and it didn't disappoint. Excellent service and food - we attended a wedding here and it was one of the best venues I've been to. Rooms are immaculate and have the proper 'castle feel' to them. Grounds are very well kept and have lots of hidden areas for children to explore. Will be back again.

Room was very spacious overall maybe a little too much furniture. The carpets were marked but a darker carpet would have disguised these marks. For the price charged per room I would expect the room to be cleaner. Staff were very friendly and attentive but no so much that you felt uncomfortable. The fine dining experience was a treat and well worth booking. Take the walk around the island just over 6k in length a great start to the day after an exceptional breakfast. Looking forward to our next visit.

Magical destination! Amazing castle with staff who are all attentive and helpful. The grounds are lovely and the ferry ride over was just delightful. The food was superb and the rooms were elegant and nicely appointed. Absolutely loved all of Ireland but the history of the Waterford Castle and staying here, was a highlight of my trip. Thanks for making my stay so memorable. Highly recommend!

We just popped in for coffee and scones after a lovely walk on the island. It wasn't our first visit, so the reception area we sat in wasn't a surprise, it was a delight though! A blazing fire in a huge hearth was very welcome after our wet walk. The whole room was beautifully and tastefully decorated for Christmas, with a massive tree, and geogeous lights. We'll worth the ferry trip across the river.

We had Afternoon Tea here as part of a group of four. The whole experience was special, from the river crossing till the time we left. The Island itself is beautiful and well managed. Not too manicured. We saw some deer on our arrival. We were greeted by the very friendly receptionists. Then we were shown to our table in a beautiful garden room. The service was excellent. The food was delicious and we were never rushed. Copious amounts of tea were consumed while we chatted. The Castle itself is beautiful. Lots of character. The toilet facilities are the best I have seen.

Our stay was exceptional. The rooms, grounds, and castle are beautiful. Sally was awesome at the front desk and Michael and the gentleman at the bar (James?) provided service with a smile. Our only complaint would be that the food options are rather limited. Would recommend!

My husband and I held our wedding here and we came back once COVID restrictions lifted to stay here again. The rooms are comfortable and the staff very friendly and attentive. If you stay here I definitely recommend having a dinner in their fine dining restaurant at least once. It is a rotating menu and the chef is creative in his dishes. They also use all local produce (fish caught fresh in Waterford). We are not golfers so I cannot speak for the golfing range. However, there are plenty of beautiful nature woodland walks surrounding the castle. For a luxury hotel.experience in southeast Ireland, this place is my go-to and I definitely recommend it for others.

This is our 3rd visit for afternoon tea at Waterford Castle for the best friend and I. It is a pleasurable experience, travelling to the island via car ferry you feel transported into a haven. The castle was beautifully adorned externally and internally for Christmas. Staff are so welcoming and attentive and the afternoon tea itself is sumptuous. Highly recommend, superb and luxurious.

The location is beautiful and the castle is full of character. We had dinner in the Munster Room and it was top class. Stayed two nights in one of the lodges which was modern and very comfortable. Well worth a visit with very friendly staff.

I stayed at the Waterford Castle at the end of May 2023 and it was amazing! The staff was wonderful, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was indescribable. It was so charming we couldn't believe our luck we got to stay here. Definitely a must when going to Ireland. I hope to one day return.

Stayed one night in this highly under rated castle and was thrilled by its environment, service and staff!! Outstanding location and absolutely gorgeous grounds without being pretentious or stuffy. Excellent food, the best bed and a wonderfully well appointed bathroom. It was great to wander the grounds and enjoy the natural beauty. Can't wait to go back and stay longer!!

Hi, I was here in the castle today for afternoon tea for my friends birthday. I just have to say I had the most loveliest experience. All the staff were lovely but I want to say that there was an older gentleman I think his name was Micheal. He was one of the nicest people in customer service I have ever come across. He really went out his way to make sure we were looked after. I just wanted to leave this review because it is rare to come across such excellent service. I will definitely be back and recommend to friends and family.

A fantastic venue. Everything about this castle y incredible. The staff, the food ,the grounds, the accommodation. We were there for a wedding and I can honestly say it was by far and away the best wedding ever. 100% recommended.

We just stayed in lodge #5. Great location and fun. A few hiccups; much needed oiling of door hinges, internet only available in the kitchen, fireplace did not work(could have been users-4 adults couldn't get it to work). Great walking and the castle's amenities were great. Wished we stayed longer.

Fantastic hotel and wedding venue. The staff were brilliant. Shauna was absolutely amazing on our wedding day ❤️ she was always smiling and ready to help. The presidential suite was gorgeous!

Fantastic venue with exceptional staff throughout the both the castle and the golf club. Castle rooms could maybe do with some slightly modern touches (fridge) and some of the power points etc more easily accessed for control, with an accessible maintenance service on site or possibly a switch board in each room given the age of the castle etc and with keeping in line with the style and design of the original standing castle. In saying that I would return happily

Good location...food and drink.were tasty. Staff were very rude and cutting. We were looking to see if we wanted to book a night and we were basically asked of we didn't book please leave ! Absolutely no need for the rudeness. Safe to say our decision was made for us. If the welcome was anything to go by its safe to say I'm glad we didn't book !

For my birthday we had afternoon tea which was absolutely amazing, the food was fresh and tasty, We also found the staff AMAZING. Michael is a great person to have working at the castle he is very welcoming, has a great personality and does his job very well. We also met Fiona who was so kind and attentive she’s a very hard worker. We really appreciated all the effort they made to make it the best time possible for us.

My dad and I stayed here as part of our trip around Ireland and oh my goodness it was wonderful!! I would give it 10 stars if I could! The location is so peaceful and quiet, the interior is stunning (I love old-world things), the food is AMAZING (haven’t had anything better!), and there is so much to explore and do here! We only stayed one night but I would highly recommend staying for at least two. The service was top-notch and everything was wonderful!

Incredible setting being isolated from the outside world and uniquely situated on its own island. The food was out of this world, highly recommended! The accommodation was well appointed and fitting for such a beautiful castle. Thank you to the staff for being so welcoming.

My partner and I recently held our wedding at Waterford Castle and we cannot recommend this venue highly enough. The setting of the Castle on its own private island is magical and creates a very special atmosphere on the day. While the hotel and grounds are truly stunning, it is the team at Waterford Castle that makes this venue so special. All of the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. Gillian is a top-class wedding planner and has everything under control at all times. She is always a step ahead and makes the whole planning process as easy and stress-free as possible. On the day of the wedding, Gillian makes sure everything goes exactly to plan and her attention to detail is second to none. The kitchen team did an amazing job and all of our guests were blown away by the high standard of cooking and the quality of each course. The fact that you and your guests have exclusive access to the Castle for the entirety of your wedding makes this special day all the more personal and intimate. Overall we are absolutely delighted we picked Waterford Castle as our wedding venue and cannot thank the team at Waterford Castle enough for all their hard work which made our wedding day a truly magical and unforgettable experience.

This stay was unforgettable, everything felt 300 years old and as original as possible. Servers and bartenders make you feel like royalty. Everything in this castle is the best of the best and I was just lucky enough to be invited to a wedding here. If you are as well, don't turn it down. The only snag in this experience was a mix up at the reception, regarding the deposit we made for the skeet shooting as our flight was delayed and they didn't want to accommodate despite agreeing to give it back to us prior to our arrival. Was a little frustrating, but not too bad.

My husband and I were at a wedding there on 1st July. Fabulous place wonderful staff and amazing food served to us. We didn't avail of the accomodation. It was our second visit to the Castle. My Sister in Law had her wedding reception there many years ago.

Definatly a four star hotel with five star staff. Everyone was very helpfull. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was lovely, and they catered to me be a vegan. A special mention to the dessert chef who is definitely putting in the thought for vegan options. I'm only deducting a star due to the fact that I did ask that they write happy birthday on my boyfriends dessert plate and was told this would be no problem l, but was let down when this never happened.

My husband and I stayed in the castle at the weekend. A beautiful setting and an amazing place to stay. We stayed in the Wedgewood suite and it was so clean, comfortable and peaceful. Early in the morning I watched the deer roaming, an amazing sight. The food was perfect and the background music brought you back in time. Just perfect for a castle. Would recommend to anyone looking for a special experience.

Had afternoon tea here. Its a beautiful hotel. Unfortunately I requested no cream but this request wasn't met. When I paid and raised it with them, I was told I should have requested it at time of booking. I told him I did and he said oh I've just started my shift, I don't know whats going on. I'd expect a lot higher standards from a hotel of this type.

A beautiful location but less than adequate service. We didn’t stay the full duration on account of this. Management x 2 but unsure who was the boss assured us that they would contact us by e/ mail but weeks have passed and still no response. A little bit of a straight jacket kind of management. We are a retired couple but found the whole experience disappointing.

Have had afternoon tea here twice and it is excellent. Everything was homemade and fresh. It's not the nicest scone I've ever had, maybe a bit dense and the cream was over whipped (although supposed to be clotted...didn't seem like it) but other desserts made up for it. We've had afternoon tea in a few other hotels and this is definitely the best we've had. The sandwiches were very inventive and delicious and the desserts were so interesting and fresh

Had a lovely time. I was treated to 2 nights in one of the Lodges for my 70th birthday. We had dinner in the Castle dining room for my birthday and the waiters were really great - they didn't know it was a special occasion when we arrived, when they realised they brought a plate of petit fours with a candle and sang Happy Birthday. The atmosphere was very friendly and we had a lovely evening.

Located on a private island is this beautiful castle & golf course. We stayed in the Lodges for a hen weekend. We had ‘The Cocktail Guys’ from dublin do a cocktail making class in the back garden of the lodges which I highly recommend. Beautiful throughout the lodges, plenty of space and each one had three bedrooms with bathrooms. Comfortable beds & plenty to use for self catering in the kitchen/living areas. Picnic table out the back. Lovely castle had a little walk about it, there was a wedding ceremony taking place outside it so the castle was out of bounds for us durning out stay. Perfect stay and we all enjoyed it. Local taxi services picked us up outside our door & return later that night which was handy if going into the city for food/drinks etc. happy to return

Picturesque setting and the three bedroom cottage has a great layout. The grounds were breathtaking and we enjoyed walking around the island It is a good bang for the buck. The ferry was on time and frequent. Very easy to get to island. It would be helpful to include basic stock items in the cottage: wash clothes, sponge, shampoo and wine opener. Also, the master bed was on wheels, which was unsettling. We didn't enjoy the dining as last seating for dinner was at 7pm and the castle was closed for a wedding.

Amazing attention to detail and every mouthful was so flavoursome. Special mention to the waiting staff who engaged so easily and attentively, especially with the kids
