It's important to note that the Interpretive Center is only open based on an appointment! I brought my family here and was lucky that the center was open for another group that had scheduled a tour. The space seems somewhat sparse BUT the photos and information on display is more than powerful in conveying the cultural atmosphere of the Deep South in 1955. If you have someone who isn't fully aware of who Emmett TIll was and how his life ultimately impacted the Civil Rights Movement, you MUST bring them here despite the lengthy drive.

I live up north from NJ. And I was reading about how the signage has been vandalized several times with the last one being shot up and then some posing with rifles next to it. The solution I believe was to prop up a new bulletproof sign but I wanted to add that maybe somehow those other 2 signs that were damaged somehow be incorporated into the memorial. Not only as a marker of our martyred hero but also as a sign of how racisim is still alive and pumping in America. Just my 2 cents. Smh....

The entire experience was somber, yet also joyous. Listening to how the community has come together to preserve this important piece of history. Unlike many communities Sumner has chosen to confront their history head on, and in doing so have created something special.

Great place to learn about a very important part of our history as a nation. The Emmett Till Interpretive Center is right across from the restored courthouse and shares information about the murder of Emmett, the murder trial, and the reconciliation process the community has participated in with the apology to the family of Emmett Till.

We were so impressed with the two young people working at the center. They were so knowledgeable regarding the events of 1955 and eager to share. Standing in the courtroom was a moving experience and we were so thankful to have this experience. Do not miss this if you find yourself in the delta.

Must visit. Somber but excellent presentation of facts and ambiance of the era. Docent was extremely knowledgeable. Hours look restricted, but when I called to confirm, he offered to stay open for my arrival. Also consider rounding out your stark Emmitt Till history with visit to the gin museum (excellent) and Money....

Powerful and emotional experience. If you want to be a better human, take the time and immerse yourself in the history and the continued struggle for equal rights today.

Highly recommend stopping at the center, the courthouse across the street and the other stops on the trail. It’s important history that needs to be reckoned with and the center does a powerful job of preserving it.
