***Update. Thank you for taking the feedback on board. It's good to see the return of the cleaning station. Your new cleaner is doing a great job. Thank you.*** So I have returned after a year and I'm shocked at how badly things have deteriorated. Where are the staff? Where is the cleaning equipment? I was here last week and the same purple bottle ring was in the water fountain. The water fountain still has a brown film on it. OK so COVID is over but people should still be able to clean their equipment. If it's not around and visible they won't do it. I haven't seen anyone clean their equipment when I've been here. One spray bottle on the staff table and one roll of paper in the studio is all I could find in the whole gym. The paper towel dispensers were empty. Basic maintenance is also an issue the second from end shower in the ladies changing rooms is blocked. I raised it last week and it is still not fixed. This is blatant cost cutting from this company at a time when you've raised fees by more than the rate of inflation. If fees go up standards should either go up or stay the same. I feel sorry for the staff and the mainly student clientele who are clearly not valued by this business.

Wish I could rate it zero. This gym is well equipped however the conditions within it are inhumane. It’s a violation of the most basic human rights, training in this gym. The air in here is absolutely putrid. It smells like fecal matter, mould and damp throughout the entire gym. I breakout and feel nauseous after training here. I’ve never left a bad review before but this place is honestly a health hazard.

4stars; Fact that it is h24 open make it easier for my schedule and less busy for when I plan to hit a workout. Update: They have brought in some new and more machines. Now that is what will help spending more time in there. See photos

I'm in Liverpool for a week and this gym is filthy and smelly. The stairwell leading down to the gym is so dirty with so much rubbish. As you enter the gym smells like urine. Even by the treadmills you can smell the foul smell. The machines are so grubby like they have never been wiped down. I've been to a fair amount of branches in London and also in Cardiff and they have all been really clean and pleasant. I'm only using this branch because its right next to where I am staying. But I should probably check out liverpools other branch. The only good thing about this branch is its fairly large with plenty of machines.

Not a huge fan of the atmosphere in this gym. It's often very busy and, for the size of the space, they don't have enough cable machines or leg machines.

Don't quite know where to start. Overall the space has potential to be great however..... the entrance is vile. Sadly, lots of our homeless community gain access and sleep here. The smell and mess is awful. Then if you want to use the lift you will receive an email telling you that your membership does not cover the easy access option and has to be added to your membership by a manager, so not very inclusive or accessible. The gym itself is filthy, in particular the changing room. A new cleaner has been on site who is fantastic when she is there, but not there enough. Hair, rubbish and makeup always on floor and dressing area, despite a check form being filled in by staff. The hairdryers are a hazard, all melted and broken. The showers are filthy and cold. The lockers are in terrible condition. Its a ridiculous waste of time trying to find one that works. This review will very probably prompt a generic response from management thanking me for my feedback like the many many other reviews, however nothing alters. I really don't like leaving bad reviews as I always try to find a positive but sadly in PureGym Liverpool Central, that is very difficult. I am going to hang on to my membership for a little while to see if any changes are implemented as, like I initially said, it has the potential to be great but will not do that for too long. During covid, the club was amazing but standards since have plummeted. Got to lie at management's doorstep if changes are going to happen. Fingers crossed 🤞

First thing you notice as you go in past the security doors is the distinct smell of urine, not sure if it's coming from the changing rooms which are by the entrance? The gym is down in the basement and the rest of the gym has a damp musky smell. There's a lack of fresh air. The equipment is slightly dated compared to other branches. The gym is spread over a large area however, it's still has the same amount of equipment as any other branch. The equipment is spaced out, leaving a lot of empty space. Unable to get a phone or data signal and the WiFi is extremely slow if able to connect at all. Overall you're still able to get a workout in. Atmosphere was okay however, I'm glad this isn't my usual local branch.

Not worth the money! Very smelly, unclean. I saw multiple stains on the floor, all of the weights were scattered around the free weigh area, it was difficult to find the correct weight. Staff seems clueless when asked about the apparent broken ‘yanga water’ hydration station (which you pay for in your extra membership.) I travel around a bit and I’ve been to a few very nice pure gyms but this city centre gym was displeasing. Nevertheless I completed my workout but was glad to leave. Disappointed

Avoid this place at all costs. And definitely don’t visit here if you are disabled as it is not disabled friendly in the slightest. The hygiene standards are repugnant, and the male night cleaner is an abusive bully who regularly encroaches on members personal space and chases after them to shout in their face or otherwise abuse them. The disabled toilets are always locked and “out of order” signs are placed by this individual, even when the facilities are working. One occasion saw this individual refuse to open the main changing room toilets as the disabled ones were locked (even though this must be done if there are no disabled facilities available) and he then proceeded to mock me when I informed him about this disability and encouraged other members to join in on the humiliation. The gym manager has received countless complaints about this behaviour yet has done absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. Avoid this gym at all costs.

Stank of pee when I entered the gym for the first time, Might have been some issue with the change rooms as there were wet floor signs just outside them. Tried to get a water from the vending machine and paid in coin, recieved no water and the machine spat out less than I put in. Staff couldnt do anything to rectify the problem. The cable machines are limited pretty much to one type of each machine. However plenty of weights at least, limited benches though so had to improvise. I will prob cancel and join a different gym next month.

The gym is so dark you lose the feeling and excitement and energy of exercising. There is not enough equipment and devices, there is only one leg press, one leg Extensions, one lying Leg curls machine and for use them, you have wait in queue for at least 15 minutes. The dumbbells are irregular The changing room is dirty and annoying odour it is felt everywhere I'm disappointed

Been going to this gym for 8 months now, always humid and stinks. Staff are pleasant enough but fairly distant and can be a bit creepy. Closed today due to flooding, second time in short succession this has happened. Broken equipment will take months to repair. just a bit poor really

Review from Max pretty much sums it up. The gym is basically 90% free space and with an awful amount of equipment just on the edges of the floor space. I used to use this gym about 5 years ago and absolutely nothing has been upgraded or added. It only takes a few groups of people to be in the gym and you won't be getting on anything so the reply is just positive spin. Even with just a few people in there you will struggle to find literally a couple of plates to use with any of the free weights. Very poorly designed and the place is obviously run on very tiny profit margins which would explain how ill thought out the design is including the amount of weight plates purchased by the business when it opened.

Equipment choice is alright but the free weights aren't maintained very well, damaged plastic plates, some of the barbells are bent. Not even a lot of the PTs tidy up the weights after their clients, leaving on the floor much like 90% of the people who train here. Good luck finding dumbbells in the rack or in the right place.

the gym permanently has 100 members from 10-am wards every single day during student term times. it does go alot quieter during the student holidays, but considering its a decent size gym they should have 2 of each machinery like gym group does. and should utilize the space they have to accommodate people.

Good gym. Lots of free weights, racks and barbell equipment, cables, isolation machines, and lots of cardio equipment spread out over large area. No frills and no nonsense. Staff are pleasant. PureGym were the only commercial chain vocal against unfair covid guidelines which I will always keep in mind. Don't understand the negative reviews, maybe it's because I usually train off peak and during peak times it's a different experience. Public gyms are about compromise. This is a popular city centre gym and with that will come busier times.

As a frequent gym-goer, I was eager to try out PureGym's Liverpool Lewis Branch. Here's my experience and overall impression of the gym. Location: The gym is conveniently located in the city center, close to Liverpool Central Station. This makes it easily accessible for those who live or work nearby, as well as visitors to the city. Entrance: One downside is that the entrance can be a bit difficult to find, as it is situated inside the Lewis building. There is no clear sign indicating the gym's location from the outside, so first-time visitors may struggle to locate it. Air Quality: The air quality between the Lewis store and the entrance to PureGym could be improved. There was an unpleasant smell reminiscent of wet socks, which was not particularly inviting. Training Space: PureGym Liverpool Lewis Branch boasts a large training space with ample equipment, including two Matrix smith machines, two squat racks, and various combination machines. Additionally, there is a comfortable amount of space between machines, unlike some crowded gyms in London where you might feel cramped. Crowdedness: During normal morning peak hours (6:30am-8:30am), the gym was surprisingly uncrowded. I visited around 8am on a weekday and had no issues finding space to train. This could be due to the presence of communal gyms in many of Liverpool's student apartment buildings. Bike Area: While there are no separate rooms for bikes, PureGym Liverpool Lewis Branch provides a designated area for them. This is a welcome change from some smaller PureGyms in London, where bikes often need to be moved around to make space. Overall, PureGym Liverpool Lewis Branch is a spacious and well-equipped gym in a central location. Despite some minor drawbacks like the entrance and air quality, the ample training space and uncrowded atmosphere make it a great choice for those looking to work out in Liverpool.

The gym facility is predominantly in good condition. There are some machines which are getting on and so are rattling in moving and are generally loose. The new equipment is phenomenal on the whole. However, the biggest issue PureGym Liverpool Central has, is the lack of order with regards to the dumbbells and plates. Whilst I understand it isn't the staffs fault for the fact that plates are all around the gym, not being put on the stand and that dumbbells aren't being put on there stand, I have never once seen a member of staff reorder the dumbbells retrieve the plates and re-stack them or tell some to put away there weights. There is plenty of staff in the gym and I have been in there at various hours throughout the week on multiple different days for a month's now and the gym is always in the same state. It needs to be improved and it starts by issuing a statement to the members or perhaps a notice and then the next step is the staff throughout the day, more than once organising and rearranging the equipment. However, the air quality is very average, the temperature is kept to high and so is too warm and the there is a lack of air flow making it feel stuffy, although this isn't across the whole gym. A membership at PureGym isn't cheap, and we are paying not only for the equipment in the facility but the maintenance of the gym as a whole. Overall staff are friendly and approachable and the gym is clean.

This is a good gym with all the basic equipment to cover every muscle part. I read other reviews and believe some are just being overly petty. Ive been here for 2wks so far in Dec 2023 and can safely say, the gym is not as bad as they make it seem (Perhaps the gym improved between the time of those reviews to my stay). The changing rooms are clean, there is an ample amount of lockers, there is an energy drink station you can access constantly for just £4 extra p/m as of Dec 2023, there are fridges for drinks and snack bars, the gym is 24hr, you do pay a small fee to weigh and get your data at other gyms such as JD, so thats not really the worst thing in the world to moan about, they just added new equipment...& personally, I do not see how being underground affects training (it's not smelly). I find the gym to be quite empty most times I go at night. So if you are someone that doesnt like a crowd, consider night training here. I give 4 and not 5 stars because they have no boxing bag. I believe with all the space, they could have at least put 1 or 2 for the persons with martial artist and boxing background like myself. I also believe there should be mirrors facing the lifter anytime you install heavy squat racks because seeing yourself and form while performing a lift helps contribute to some extent in balancing and managing the weight. I believe the newly installed squat area should of been designed facing the wall with mirros on each wall. But maybe they had reasons for their design. Based on equipment, facilities and space, it is quite ok and a good gym.

They literally only have 1 machine for each exercise. Never get on cables or chest press and have to wait for a Bench. Why pay for peak when it’s impossible to do the work you want

Spacious and clean but not welcoming for people who are not familiarised with the gym! Got in, couldn’t find any staff member to ask where the toilets and studios are, no clearly visible signage either. Had to interrupt someone and ask if they knew. In the class, didn’t feel welcome by the trainer felt like everyone else was a regular as they knew how to put the weights together and change the steps level I didn’t know anything, trainer clearly saw me struggling didn’t even bother to offer some help and started the class either way 🙂.

  • 3/5 Charlie S. 1 year ago on Google
This gym is very untidy when it comes to plates. This is a common problem in Liverpool gyms which doesn't seem to be policed enough. To compensate for members not putting their weights back, there should be a surplus of every weight which this gym fails to supply. There's no point having enough machines and racks if there's not enough weights to use on them. There is enough racks, machines, and benches to meet the demand of peak hours. The cable attachments could use an upgrade.

Visited a few times this week as my home gym is in london. Very big with lots of machines. Visited out of hours and had to let other people let me in as I couldn’t work out how to get in. Probably down to me but just a warning as there does appear to be a QR code reader outside and couldn’t find entry passcode on App.

The PureGym in RANELAUGH has GONE down hill and the management are doing NOTHING about it. IMAGINE, ALMOST ALL THE TOILET ARE BLOCKED AND THE GREAT SHOCKER,NO TOILET PAPER, CUSTOMERS WERE USING BOTTLED WATER TO WASH THEIR BACKSIDE. THE WORST IS THE DISABLED TOILET, BLOCKED. ONLY ONE MALE TOILET IS WORKING AND THIS IS BECAUSE THE OWNER OF PUREGYM IS A STINGY UNREPENTANT UNADULTERATED MEGALOMANIAC AND A MANAGEMENT THAT BURIES THEIR HEAD IN THE SAND. THIS IS NOT GOOD AT ALL,BUT APPALLING. ONE QUESTION,HAS PLUMBERS IN LIVERPOOL GONE INTO EXTINCTION??? JEEZ NOTE: I might move to another gym ,that understands customer services and quality. PUREGYM in Liverpool centre IS UNHEALTHY. FOR THE PAST WEEK NO CHANGE,ITS LIKE A DUMP.

Awful gym. The cardio machines wobble all over the floor and nobody ever fixes them. They have added a pin pad outside on the street in a wee soaked nook, but they have screwed it on at wee height so you have to dip your digits in god knows what to get in. There are better managed and better cared for gyms nearby.

For a regular member it’s really annoying when you gonna visit another outlet and find out totally messy things! I’ve got very bad experience while I visit Puregym city centre, Liverpool. I’m really sorry to write negative reviews about their inside atmosphere and messy stuff. All plates and weights( dumbbells) should be good organised but it was really annoying that every single time I had to find plates or dumbbells they are not organised properly. Their machines also same. One think I find nice was well behaved stuff.

Great place, 24/7 what's not to appreciate about that. Only downside is when it's busy you've got to have good luck to hop on the bench press or squat racks... That's fairly frequent. A layout like JD Gyms would be better but it's so close in town that there's no real alternative

Not the best Pure Gym Ive been to. It needs some love for sure. The male changing rooms are grimy, the lockers are filthy and only a few large ones. The toilets are grim, theres only one cubicle with a lock, and theres rarely soap in the hand wash so god only knows whats going on all the weights/handles. The aircon in the freeweight area particularly doesnt seem to work, generally the air is always fetid, damp, smelly and warm. It makes working out difficult because its tiring without clean cool air. Theres a good selection of equipment, but desperately needs more cable stations, it has 2 which are in constant use and hard to get on. Equipment is well maintained on the whole, if not a little tired.

Only one maybe 2 of each assisted weight machine means if it's busy and you want to use a popular machine you can forget about it. Only 5 freeweight benches and 2 squat racks. A couple benches for barbells and about 10 barbells but only 2 sets of weight clips so only 2 of them maximum can be in use at a time. I would pay £10 for this gym, at a stretch. Do not go here spend your money somewhere else.

Nice the gyms are finally open. The staff are great, plenty of cleaning stations to keep the equipment clean.

This is my current regular gym. They have a big free weights area with all the trimmings, a huge bank of treadmills, stair climbers, elliptical and bikes and have targeted exercise machines for nearly every part of your body. There's a stretch out and jungle gym type area and huge space for classes, as well as a couple of vibration plates for when you want to stretch and sound like a Darlek at the same time. The staff are always friendly and helpful and it's 24hr access is no joke, very easy to enter with a pin and a cheap membership

The pure gym is me favourite gym in Liverpool they have plenty of equipment and most of the people who go to the gym are really friendly that lady who said the gym was smelling of pee it’s not it’s sweat it is a gym after all and the equipment is not filthy and London gyms cost a lot more money to join you really can’t compare them pure gym is open 24 hours and only cost £24 a month
