Gostilna Sokol is a traditional Slovenian restaurant located in the Old Town of Ljubljana. It is a popular tourist destination, and it is known for its hearty food and friendly service. The menu at Gostilna Sokol features a variety of Slovenian dishes, including roast pork, sausages, and dumplings. The food is generally good, but it is not the most innovative or exciting. The service at Gostilna Sokol is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere at Gostilna Sokol is rustic and traditional. The restaurant is located in a restored 16th-century building, and it has a warm and inviting feel. Overall, Gostilna Sokol is a good option for tourists looking for a traditional Slovenian meal. The food is good, the service is friendly, and the prices are little bit high. However, if you are looking for something more unique or exciting, you may want to try a different. Overall, Gostilna Sokol is a good option for tourists looking for a traditional Slovenian meal. It is not the most unique or exciting restaurant in Ljubljana, but it is a reliable option that is sure to please most people.

Horrible - worst food we had in Slovenia. Stay away from this tourist trap. The schnitzel is as chewy as eraser. The mushroom soup tastes like water and the bread is dry. The risotto tastes like heated up rice from yesterday. Staff very unfriendly. So do yourself a favor and stay away from here.

Traditional Slovenian restaurant. The food was okay but it was too expensive for what it was. There are better places to try for less money, but if you want the experience of Slovenian cuisine then come here. Their “Štrukli” were delicious though.

Visited around 2pm on Saturday 23rd December. Can eat Slovenian authentic food and tastes good. But feels racist. I've asked for Bill 3 times, but they don't keep coming. Really don't recommend this restaurant. Their rudeness has ruined my precious travel time.

A place that does not have clean toilets does not respect its customers. The food is average. The mushroom soup is ok but too little. The waste of so much bread with each soup is questionable. This place is about quantity not quality. The seating is huge. Juliaja is a much better place. Its classy. Better food. The thought is always, will I want to come back here? For Sokol the answer is no. However to be fair, the homemade beer and atmosphere is very good here. So maybe go once but with no expectations of the food. Or service.

I believe I've found my favorite restaurant in Ljubljana! Service is awesome, food is fantastic, portions are big, house beer is very good and overall atmosphere is great. Only downside is - prices are bit on the heavy side (two beers, a portion of goulash and a portion of pasta came up to 45 euros), but I don't mind considering all of the beforementioned - it's worth the money! Will be returning to this place for sure!

Nice atmosphere, despite the after-ski music. Friendly and very fast service. The 'traditional, Slovenian apfelstrudel' was a let down though: microwaved (to death), like rubber and rather tasteless. In between the apples there were bites that now more resembled an omelette, than the cream that used to be there. Soup was quite nice though.

Great restaurant for some really good meals. They do great traditional Slovenian meals which was a great way to try a range of things. Staff were very friendly and also spoke very good English which made life very easy for me. So I was very greatful for this. It is on the more expensive side of things but non the lest a great spot for a bite to eat.

9 of us had our dinner at Sokol and we had mixed feelings. Some of the food were amazing, I would recommend the goulash, the mushroom soup and the sausage. They were really good, however the veal stew wasn't that good. The atmosphere is really cool, but the service was bad. Maybe our waiter had a bad day, but he seemed very bored and had the "I hate beeing here vibes" that made us uncomfortable.

Restaurant located in an old townhouse in the centre of Ljubljana with interior decorated in the traditional rural style. They offer many traditional dishes and a choice of Slovenian wines served to the sound of Slovenian music by waiters dressed in national costumes. House specials include mushroom soup in a bread bowl, Ljubljana goulash, Carniolan sausage, and homemade draught beer. The waitress was kind. She helped us choose dishes, and the service was fast.

Lovely place, lovely food, helpful and friendly staff, who speaks English. I especially recommend the dish with trilogy of wild meats, it's amazing. I've been here 4 years ago, and now again, and not a single thing has changed. Will definitely come every time I am in Ljubljana

Exceptional service and great atmosphere! We wanted to try something truly local instead of going to a McSomething. The wait was worth it (there was a line of people waiting for a table opening). Food was excellent, beer was probably the best one I've ever had, but the service takes the cake. Our waiter, even though he was exhausted, had a great sense of humor and only made our evening better. Definitely recommend to visit!

We were seated fast, served fast, and the price was fair. Boris (face tat guy) treated us like kings. We ordered a gulaš which lacked a bit of flavour in my opinion. Overall, good experience considering it could be easily a tourist trap due to location. Keep it up!

The food here is below average. The ribs were tough, clearly having sat at room temperature too long before being served. The fried squid and chicken were both dry and tough, also at room temperature. The only dish we enjoyed was the sausages on iron plate - those were well prepared. The waiters were friendly and attentive, but that couldn't make up for the poor food quality. The ribs, fried food and chicken showed a lack of attention to cooking temperatures and proper food handling. The food needs to be served hot and fresh for this to be a good restaurant.

We were planning to visit a nearby restaurant but when we passed by Sokol and saw the food picture on display we decided to eat here instead! It was definitely a great decision!! Their soups are awesome but the highlight was the vension goulash in a large bread cup! It was delicious and heart warming especially on such a cold day! Staff are nice with good sense of humor. The vibe is relaxing with nice Slovenian decorations. Highly recommended!

Really fun and authentic ambiance with upbeat and friendly waitstaff. The bread bowl mushroom chowder was a treat and the pot roast with mashed potatoes really hit the spot. My wife had the strudel with whipped cream and was very happy. Our dining partners enjoyed the food and wine as well. Loved the murals on the wall, interesting floor and we all appreciated the clean bathrooms…

This is another example of great, local hospitality! Great food selection is being served by nice and polite staff. Good place to taste many truly local dishes. As much as outside is very often full, with a long queue waiting to get seated, there is very often way to be sited immediately if only agree to be assigned a table inside. Good spot to take a break from sightseeing and getting some quality time with your family over great food.

Recommended by the walking tour guide and our apartment host. The servings were huge. Enjoyed the warm beef goulash with tender chucks of beef on a rainy day and the casserole was densely packed with vegetables, carrots and mushrooms. Service was also good and friendly.

Nice traditional food. I've had a mushroom soup served in a bread. It looks good, but taste was not amazing. On the other hand the gnocchi were very tasty and are recommended to try. White wine was also nice and tasty and went well with gnocchi. Interior is authentic and should take a tour to check how it all looked like a while ago.

We went there because it was late at night during the week and it was one of the only places open. The truffle pasta was ok, the fried calamari was uninteresting but the veggie lasagna was good. A tad expensive for what it was but ok. Staff was ok, not particularly friendly.

If you want to try traditional Slovenian food, this is the place for you. The dishes are tasty and authentic. The place is a little bit expensive and the service was slow but kind.

If you’re looking for a kitschy rustic Slovenian restaurant offering traditional food then this is a place to go to. The food is good but keep in mind that it is relatively expensive for what you get. The highest price on the menu is about 20€ for a plate of venison. Be sure to have their beer that they brew onsite and is unfiltered.

Typical Slovenian restaurant where is possibile to taste all the traditional local dishes. I recommend the mushroom soup served in a carved bread. The service can be improved: waiters run very fast through the tables and do not pay much attention to their guests. There is only one draught beer in the menu.

Great traditional Slovenian restaurant offering yummy Slovenian food. We ordered lamb leg and mushroom soup. They are the best they offer! Highly recommend them. We ordered veal as well, that was ok. Service was awesome. Please stop by if you are visiting old town.

Tonight we went native. Gostilna Sokol is serving local specialities top tourist but the food is well enough regarded that locals west here too. We had KRANISKA KLOBASA S KISLIM ZELJEM IN KISLO REPO (Carniolan sausage with sour cabbage and sour turnip), SVINISKI FILE S HRUSTLIAVO PANCETO V SLIVOVI VRTIMI NJOKI ÖMAKI IN DOMACIMI SIROVIMI STRUKLII (Pork fillet with crispy bacon in plum sauce and home-made cheese rolls) and Gobova juha v kruhovi skodelici (Mushroom soup in bread cup) followed by Home-made gibanica, and Apple strudel with cottage cheese and vanila cream with a hot shot of honey liquor. Everything was delicious but I think my stomach will be doing dances all night. The atmosphere in the place was great. It was packed, felt like an old inn, and we were served really attentively. … #slovenia #ljubljana #dinner #gostilna

Went for a stroll in Ljubljana and we thought maybe this place was a bit touristy but the food was amazing, the home brewed beer was exceptional and the people who worked there were extremely nice and helpful. Slovenian dishes recommended paired with the delicious home brewed unfiltered barley beer!
