We booked a table for two at this Gostilna AS restaurant which is in a dead end street near the river in Lubljana. The restaurant owner greets us, sits us down, and a waiter immediately places a bottle of still and sparkling water on the table. The boss asks us if we want to eat meat or fish (like in an airplane). We let him show our astonishment. He explains to us that the meal takes place in three or four courses and that for our information the meal costs 60 € per person. We explain to him that we do not want to eat so much in the evening and that we would like to see the menu. He tells us he doesn't have a printed card and asks one of the waitresses to explain the menu to us. We choose two dishes each out of the menu choices and ask if it is possible to have a wine by the glass. The starters were charged € 25 euros each for three small bites of fish and two slices of duck carpaccio. For the main course, we ate an excellent back of sea bass at € 24 and a salmon salad at € 16. Two glasses of wine were served. The restaurateur charged three glasses of wine. We have had the invoice corrected. In conclusion we ate well, but left this restaurant with the painful feeling of lack of respect for the customer: 1. The restaurateur tries to impose a menu without any transparency on its content and price. 2. We realized that at other tables some customers (Slovenians?) only ate one dish. 3. The quality of the products is good, but the food is nothing exceptional to justify the price of the meal. 4. We ordered a wine by the glass (2) but the waiter leaves the bottle on the table and then charges 3 glasses of wine. We will never go back to this restaurant and do not recommend it. There are enough serious restaurateurs who respect their customers in Lubliana to fill our needs.

Ljubljana has a few good restaurants but this one is up there in the top two when it comes to food quality. However, when it comes to the hospitality and service from the entire staff including the famous owner Pop, there is no match for atmosphere and vibe. If you want to see a hospitality business done right, you will find all the components right here in one place.

I have been reflecting for the past 24 hours on what to say in this review. It is hard to decide which is better - the service or the food. My boyfriend and I ate here for lunch yesterday and had a meal we will never forget. Pictured here is the shrimp risotto but we also had the tuna mexicana. The server treated us like we were the only two people in the world. I have never had a dining experience like this in my life. A must if you are in Ljubljana!

Beautiful terrace, average food, staff overloaded providing poor service, low quality/high price. We were offered a sit for 2 on the terrace above (which has a separate menu,i.e. more expensive) though we had no reservation so we were lucky. We ordered meat menu €45 and seafood menu €49. From price perspective this is THE high end of Ljubljana menu pricing. Some pros: Excellent panoramic view, even castle tower is slightly visible. The waitress at least tried to speak French. I appreciated it:-) 3rd dish (main course) roast beef was simple though delicious. and 4th dessert soufflé au chocolat was savoury. Cons: I asked to slightly modify Starter(beef carpaccio+truffle sauce) and change raw meat with anything else but keep the rest(truffles) so i got only ham on plate but no truffles, and i was told that's the way it goes there. 2nd dish Pasta+beef was trivial & dull The waiter forgot we exist (for about 1 hour) and main course didn't arrive, so waitress jumped directly to dessert untill she was kindly reminded by us. Main entertainment was the owner bossing around waiters loudly practically in front of customers and waiters are more or less running. Literally. We got a cover charge of 2.5€/person (???) - that doesn't exist in Slovenia. Initial bill of 137€ was wrong (3 btls water intead of two, 1 non existing dish, and menus were stripped down to individual dishes) and when prompted the waiter brought down the bill to 117€ (incld 3 glasses of wine, exactly 0,1L per glass). Poor Price/quality. When i reminded my spouse we paid almost same for the another resto up there in the castle (see my other reviews) she almost fell off her chair, quality is incomparable. STRELEC is heaven comparing to earthy AS.

Excellent food!!!! Think the best from everything Inbisited in city! Highly recommended!

We dined at Gostolina AS recently. My dish, pasta with rooster meat was quite tasty. Although all 4 of us were pleased with the food, our satisfaction ended there. After we were seated, it took 40 minutes before the waiter took our wine order. Ordering wine is not very easy as the guest is required to view the wine list using a QR code. They have no printed wine list. If your phone has a US number, it will probably be necessary to log into the restaurant wyfi in order to get the QR code to work. Once we gained access to the wine list, we realized that it is largely imaginary. The first wine I ordered was out of stock, the next two that I ordered were not the listed vintage. Once we got our first bottle of wine, we rescued it from a distant ice bucket as the waiter was not around to refill our glasses. Overall service was disinterested and disconnected. We hope you have a better experience.

Best food we had in Slovenia in 5 days! Can’t reccommend more!

AS Fine dining and aperitivo. Tasty and high quality food. Definitely would come back! Prices are bit higher than other restaurants in the area. However there is value for money.

I've been sat in for 15 minutes and served water shortly afterwards but no waiter seem to care enough to fetch the menu. I could see all of the waiters roaming around me, checking on the multiple groups they had - none of them cared. After 15 minutes sharp of waiting I left the place without making a scene. The money is highly teasing from 3 groups of ~[10-15] persons than giving service to the 3 customers left ( Me included ). The couple left before me for the same reason and I shortly after. I don't recommend this place

It's a bar&dinner restaurant. This means that it is not a bar and not a restaurant. Fancy place popular among the young people. The food was good, but nothing more. Overpriced. And at the end we found out that we are in Aperativo As. The next door .

Unwilling, incapable and greedy I never made such a bad experience with unwilling service, low performance and exaggerated prices in Slovenia. We had a diner for five pax, half of the dishes of the menu where not available or the waiter told us, that he has to ask back - what he never did. Even simplest wishes like a portion of rice ("no, we don´t have rice in our restaurant") where not fulfilled. But the top was, as I realized that I forgot a box with 6 bottles of wine there afterwards. They do not answer on any email, and if you get someone to the phone by chance, he tells you, that they cannot send anything to a foreign country (we are talking about Austria). But he will ask his chef and come back to you - what he - surprise, surprise, never did. For a place where they do not hesitate to bill 35 Euro for a starter made of a few pieces of raw seafood this is not appropriate, I think. Fazit: it´s the perfect tourist trap where you can eat mediocre food at highflying prices and receive subterrestrial service. I would recommend to avoid this place at all costs.

I was honestly a little disappointed with the food here. The ambient and location are great, and the staff were nice and helpful, but the dishes left a little to be desired - carpaccio with far too much oil, a small bowl of tagliatelle, and three small pieces of meat to be shared between two people (cooked well but rather basic).

I would fully recommend this place to most of different food and ambient lovers. Place has great ambient and you can order from fish/vegi/meets and sweets. Service is of course great. If you have some visitors in your company this is the place with few one I would recommend for sure!

Probably the best restaurant in town. Patanegra starter (superlative) followed by a fantastic grilled picana. The Marjan Simcic cru selection pinot noir was a marvellous surprise (seemed a french wine). The only problem has been the waiters preparing a big table for other clients at the end of a show but anyway excellent.

It's one of the most famous restaurant in Ljubljana city center but totally overrated... - Overrated (salad = 17 eur, prawns = 22 eur) + Salad and tempura prawns are tasty 👍 + Staff is polite...
