The Dragon Bridge in Ljubljana is a reinforced concrete bridge that began to be built in 1888. At that time, however, it was still called the Jubilee Bridge of Emperor František Josef 1 and was built in the style of the Viennese Art Nouveau. It was not until the beginning of the twentieth century that the Dragon Bridge got its name from four dragons that guard every single corner of the bridge. Dragons are one of the most beautiful images I have ever seen. Very simple, yet absolutely brilliant

Ljubljana, a city steeped in warmth and romance, captivates visitors with its enchanting illuminations. As dusk settles, the city transforms into a picturesque haven, adorned with twinkling lights that weave a magical tapestry. The illuminated bridge, an architectural gem, gracefully spans the river, casting reflections that dance on the water below. The majestic castle perched on the hill adds to the city's allure, standing as a testament to its rich history. Lit up against the night sky, the castle exudes a timeless charm, creating a romantic ambiance that permeates the entire city. Ljubljana's welcoming atmosphere, coupled with its illuminated landmarks, provides a truly enchanting experience for those seeking a romantic getaway.

The Dragon Bridge, adorned with famous dragon statues, appears in the most recognizable images of Ljubljana. If you haven't been photographed next to a Dragon Bridge dragon, you can hardly claim that you have visited Ljubljana. The four dragon statues, which look slightly terrifying and almost real (if, of course, you believe that dragons might be real), are a masterpiece which has been exciting imagination since the bridge was built.

The Dragon Bridge (Slovene: Zmajski most, historically also Zmajev most) is a road bridge located in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It crosses the Ljubljanica River. between Kopitar Street (Kopitarjeva ulica) and Ressel Street (Resljeva cesta), to the north of the Ljubljana Central Market at Vodnik Square. It was built in the beginning of the 20th century, when Ljubljana was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As one of the best examples of reinforced concrete bridges and of the Vienna Secession style, the bridge is today protected as a technical monument.

Neat town with an interesting history. Took a bus from Koper and enjoyed the scenery. Fun atmosphere in Ljubljana. Lots of smiling young people. Great open air market. Go hungry!

The Dragon Bridge is a road bridge which spans the Ljubljanica River at the eastern side of Ljubljana’s historic city centre. The bridge was the very first reinforced concrete structure in Ljubljana, and adorned with famous dragon statues that appears in the most recognizable images of Ljubljana. It is now an iconic landmark in the city.

In the heart of this beautiful historic setting in Ljubljana are numerous bridges crossing the river lined with cafes and restaurants. A beautiful spot on the Dragon bridge to admire the architecture of the town.

Old centre of Ljubljana is full of charms and people from all walks of life. A joy to explore. Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most) I particularly liked as it is guarded at every entry point by mystic statues of green dragons - this experience I Lin my case was amplified as it correlates to my Chinese zodiac sign so I instantly felt drawn to it. Just around the corner I was compelled to try out a craft beer bearing the same insignia written in pronunciation wordage as Loo-Blah-Nah. A definite must when exploring Ljubljana

One of the beautiful bridge of Ljubljana, although I prefer the Triple bridge or even Mesarski Most Bridge (the one just before this one) with all its padlocks locked on it. The 3 dragon's statues are beautiful as well and worth of your time...and some photos. Just take a look at the pictures.

Wonderful bridge, 4 dragons are guarding the area. Pay attention not to wake them up 🤣

It was our start and finish of our walk around Ljubljana city centre where we have found free parking on a Sunday. With the Tromostovje bridge, this is the one which stands out the most with the iconic dragons on each side! The dragon has a rich history inbuilt with the city from the origins coat of arms depicted as a monster to later protector of the city! Beautiful bridge and in a charming city!

In my opinion the inner city of Lubjana is one of the most charming city in Europe. Maybe it's not known as the most mountainous, party capital, most touristic place in Europe, but every bit of this city has to offer it. So this bridge is special with its mistycal dragons and lightning bridges at late night!

Very small old bridge with a beautiful architecture and lovely Dragons to admire…., is located in the heart of the cit, easy to walk …. Bring some flat shoes the city has stone pedestrianised area where the bars and restaurants are located along the river.

The Dragon Bridge and many other Dragon themed places pay tribute to Ljubljana's historic and legendary heritage. Legend is that Jason and his Argonauts, after stealing the golden fleece, passed through the region what is Ljubljana today. There Jason encountered a dragon monster and slayed it. The dragon legendarily over the centuries transformed from a monster to the powerful protector of the city - now present on top of the coat of arms of Ljubljana.

Navigate the busy road and you’ll find fantastic views of the dragons with backdrops of the city. During the day you might find it hard to get a picture without other visitors. Make sure you stroke the lucky claw while you’re there!

The whole portrayal of the dragon mythology in this city is awesome. This bridge is a beautiful example of it. Ljubljana is fantastic, everywhere we went over 10 days in Slovenia was absolutely wild (caves, mountains, gorges and waterfalls). Must visit.

This bridge, though undeniably beautiful, offers little beyond its visual charm. The constant flow of cars and bikes can be bothersome, leaving little room for leisurely enjoyment. I recommend exploring nearby pedestrian-only bridges for a more fulfilling experience.

Toured the city with a group from Alaska. Enjoyed everything about the city that we saw, the weather, the people, the vendors, etc. This is quite the bridge given the history, and of course the notable dragons.

Symbol of Ljubljana and a lovely tourist attraction, in the very center of the city. The view of the bridge and from the bridge is really beautiful. The bridge is not very long and it's not only pedestrian bridge, but it's a perfect photo spot.

Ljubljana is a very green, beautiful and clean city. The people are just as friendly as one could hope for. We had a pleasant stay and felt very welcome. This also was true for our dog, very dog-friendly city and people.

Around the location of the dragon bridge is a beautiful market and the old city. Better park the car before the bridge.

You have to stop at the Dragon Bridge when you're in Ljubljana! (We actually end up stopping by and walking across it multiple times!) The dragons don't breathe fire....but you can imagine that they do! Just one more little piece of the city that endears it to our hearts. ❤️❤️

You cannot visit Ljubljana without visiting the famous Dragon Bridge. While nearly everyone takes a selfie or group picture there everyone is willing to take turns and share the responsibility of taking someone else's picture. Love this bridge

Interestingly looking dragons. 4 big ones and 16 small ones. It is a must see as long ad you are there. Not a big bridge though

A beautiful landmark in the very nice city center of Ljubljana. Absolutely worth a visit. Especially when the weather is good. A lot of people are there to give this part of town a vibrant vibe. It’s located in the old city center.

Beautiful bridge with Dragon statues. Perfect place to walk to from Prešeren Square. From there cross and get to the flea market.

  • 5/5 Levente M. 2 years ago on Google
The iconic bridge of Ljubljana, the dragon statues are really amazing. Unfortunately cars also can go through the bridge, it would be more gorgeous without cars. Legend of the bridge: "There is a legend that Jason was the founder of Ljubljana, and he and his Argonauts killed a dragon. This is one of the four dragon statues in the bridge."
