Beautiful sight, beautiful castle. There is a restaurant and coffee. The prices are normal. You can take a train up or walk up, it takes about 15-20 minutes. It's worth checking out. The trip per person costs €8 for up and down and a family ticket costs €11. For those who are interested, there is a guided tour of the castle. You can only get into certain parts of the castle if you pay. But you can also get to the restaurant and individual viewing platforms without paying. Check it out for yourself.

Wow! Amazing. 5 stars. Since the castle is on top of the hill, the climb would be steep, so we decided to take this ride. The view was superb. I took my camera and take some shots. Thumbs up. This ride is helpful for senior citizens, people with disability and for us, who does not want to perspire if you walk using the regular stairs getting up the castle. Since we use the ride getting up, same ride as we go down. Saving time and energy as we continue to stroll around this beautiful castle.

We can't say anything about the train. We wanted to go up but it was too full for us. I think the price was around €6 but I'm not 100% sure. A beautiful path up to the castle starts nearby. Of course it goes uphill, but it's very relaxing to walk and you're at the top after about 20 minutes.

The cable car goes up every 10 minutes or so. It can hold up to ~10 persons at a time. It's not that expensive, and it's worth the visit. The alternative is to take the path to the top of the Ljubljana hill. The view is beautiful! Dogs and other animals are permitted.

The best and easiest way to reach the castle up on the hill. The panorama from the window down to the city is amazing, as same as from the castle. The family ticket is only 10 EUR for both up and down, but if it's summer better to pay half and walk back down! We have been there many times, but it's never enough. It's a must see place!

It was very crowded to drive up, so we walked (no problem at all if you're somewhat fit). We went down by train. Nice view and practical.

Very nice young guy on the cable car. Travel there and back + entrance to the castle 13€ and students also have a discount.

Google is taking you to the stairs. The funicular is right around the corner. Once you get close ignore google and follow the signs. The funicular is clean and organized. You can easily walk up and buy tickets.

It is a very pleasant and beautiful area, the ride up the funicular is fantastic

Wonderfully nice ride up in a very modern cabin. The journey is quick and has beautiful views all around. About 28 people are admitted per ride and a new ride starts every 5 minutes. Peak times should be avoided as you will be queuing for a while (Friday at sunset around 30-45 minutes). So if you're good on foot, you'd rather walk up. But the train can't do anything about that, it runs non-stop. It doesn't really matter whether you buy tickets in advance online or on site, you usually only have to wait a few minutes at the ticket counters and the print ticket is easier to scan.

You can also get there on foot. Not at all panoramic. I would call it an elevator.

It was a small hike up the hill, once you get on the top there is a beautiful view of the Ljubljana city. The streets, roads and people are clearly visible from the top. We reached there when it was almost nearly dark. There is a cafe if you need to drink something.

Cheap ride to the castle, I recommend to take only one way ticket, because walking down on the steep stairs from the top is fun.

We did a quick and easy one way trip up to the castle. You can walk around the outside of the structure and see the views without paying for castle entrance tickets. We walked down via the path which is of good quality with steps and hand rails and even though very wet today it was fine. 10 mins to get down. The funicular takes 28 people per time so we did not have wait more than 5 minutes. The rise is only a couple of minutes long.

Lovely man in the kiosk, very reasonable to take funicular to the castle. Great to wait for the cabin and watch it coming down the rails. Modern, clean and cheap...

Good value. They offer a student price of €14 which includes funicular up and down as well as castle entry and audio guide. Quick service on the funicular and friendly staff.

one way 3.3€ return 6€ with castle incl. return 16€ dog with muzzle, cannot enter the castle, but for 2 persons not a problem, you can go separate and the other waits with the dog. correct, but not exceptional coffee on the castle square.

Easy way up/down. There is an escape the castle game who’s price also include the funicular both ways and all the entrances to different museums and rooms inside the castle.

For those who don't want to trek up to the castle, it's an excellent alternative

  • 5/5 Vlatka V. 1 year ago on Google
The ride was nice and smooth and the view is amazing, we didn't wait very long for the ride up or down, but we were there very early. When we went down the waiting line was so long we were glad we came early

Nice way up to the castle with a scenic view. It’s not that expensive (2,20€ one way/Person) and we had almost no waiting time.

  • 5/5 JC 2 years ago on Google
Reasonable price and very friendly stuff. I recommend you to go up with it and then go down walking.

There's quite a bit to do once you're up there. We only had 1.5 hrs and had to rush it. Didn't see anything outside the castle. The little museums are very interesting, especially the puppet one.

  • 5/5 Grzegorz M. 2 years ago on Google
An interesting way to get to/from the castle. We hiked up the hill and returned by the funicular.

  • 4/5 renata c. 4 years ago on Google
Good. but quite bit a rush. You can go by feet to thr castle if you wish. One way ticket is 2,2 EUR. So, you musn't go back to the city center with it.

You can use the cableway to go up their. It just costs 4,- both ways per person. Entry to the castle is on top but you can also go inside and walk around on the outside for free. There are some nice viewpoints to Ljubljana Valley from the castle.

Beautiful sight over the city center and medieval castle

  • 5/5 Angela O. 11 months ago on Google
Operates every 10 mins to bring you to the castle. You can alternatively walk up the hill which is also very doable, but we took the funicular one way up the hill for just €3 each as it was mid day and very sunny.

  • 3/5 Lasan A. 1 year ago on Google
I felt it’s bit expensive. (€4 for return ticket) But it is a good experience. Don’t expect a significant view unless you go inside the castle. 27 more people will be inside the funicular carriage. So you don’t have much room to take picture of you or others.

Included in the Ljubljana card. Fast service and gets you right inside the castle. Leaves every couple of minutes so you never have to wait very long.

Given we had just a day to visit Slovenia's capital city, we have used the funicular to visit Ljubljana castle quickly. It takes a few minutes to reach the top and run continuously. We have found a very small queue on a Sunday in mid September so not required to purchase ticket upfront during that period.

  • 5/5 Neofytos P. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely a nice experience and very cheap as a thing to do in Ljubljana. The line is always busy but I would definitely do it again

  • 5/5 Elena 1 year ago on Google
The glass all around allows views from all angles. Very quick ride, and easy to buy a ticket. It is also nice how much is automated like the screens showing you waiting times, how full it is, and that you can scan the ticket yourself. Makes for a very smooth process. The exit point is conveniently located. Finally the signs once you get up leading you away and back to the funicular are very clear.

Really easy and affordable way of getting upto ljubljana castle. Worth the couple of extra euros on top of the castle admission price
