The worst hostel I have ever stayed in, and I have been to 20+. It felt as if the beds had already been slept in, the rooms were dirty, and we definitely did not feel safe. Pay a couple of extra euros and stay someone nice.

Booked this place based on reviews and photos, I’m not super picky, so I thought it’d be fine for one night. The building is on a weird secluded street next to the highway, run down and there’s trash/boxes piled up outside the entrance and in the halls. I wandered up the stairs and all the doors were closed with no one at reception. I asked other guests if they knew what to do and they said the staff were upstairs eating.. ok.. I start up the stairs and it gets worse, paint peeling off the walls, dead bugs, and it stinks to high heaven. I didn’t even make it upstairs - walked out and booked somewhere else. Save yourself the trouble.

Its a scam. Avoid at all costs. They do not rent the rooms they offer online. When I came there the room I booked was occupied. They offered me an unfinished, small, hot, dark room in the attic instead. They knew very well that this room wasnt a real option, so they offered me a discount or a free cancelation. When I choose the "free" cancelation, they kept the money anyway. Didn't reply to messages anymore.

We had a reservation for a 6 bed room. First they want to put us in a 10 bed room without a discount. But then my friends bed broke and they put us in a construction sites room with only two beds in it. The kitchen was dirty and the bathroom way too small (3 toilets and 2 showers for at least 25 people). It could be a very nice Hostel in an old villa, but the organisation and the effords they put in makes it one of my worst hostel experiences.

I'd like to warn you and ask to warn others about Vila Veselova! It looks like it used to be a proper place to sleep but something bad has been happening there for a few months now. I have slept in a lot of accommodations in my life and rarely give negative reviews, but what I experienced here was a real nightmare. On 11 February 2022, my wife and I booked a "family room with private bathroom" for 20 August 2022. Identical photos of the room as then still hang on the facility's website in booking services. Almost all of the reviews were positive. When we contacted for arrival instructions on 20 August, the property first claimed that there was no such booking. After providing proof, we were offered a tiny room in the attic, with a disgusting smell coming from the sewage system and toilet that was difficult to bear for more than a few minutes, and no bathroom. An air conditioner was manually placed in the window. We pointed out that this was not the room for which we had booked. The receptionist stated that due to a change of ownership of the premises, our booking had been cancelled and he could only offer us the smelly attic room. When we showed him on the phone that, according to the website, the room we had booked was still available, we were told that if we wanted to sleep in it, we would have to pay a surcharge of EUR 180, almost three times the amount we had agreed to when booking the room in February 2022, and more than the price of Lubljana's Sheraton hotel. The receptionist generously added that we could also cancel the booking for free. A short while later, another couple of visitors found themselves in the same situation. We were left without accommodation, at 10 p.m., with a small child, in a town where 95% of the beds were booked. I strongly advise against sleeping in this hotel!

AVOID. I've been fortunate enough to travel all over the world, and I have never seen a property as badly kept as this one. We turned up to stay in our 'Cabin with a Garden view', and the door would not lock. The hosts then told us that there is nothing they can do for us. They gave me the offer to cancel with a refund, however, the property will not reply to my calls or emails, and booking.com will not either. The front door to the main property is broken, the walls were falling down and looked mouldy, and the people hosting it were of little help. I cannot recommend avoiding this place enough.

They cancelled our reservation the night before due to “issues” in the accomodation. They didn’t think it was necessary to explain what these issues were, and the last minute cancellation made our travel plans extremely difficult, as we’d planned our route and made other hostel bookings accordingly. They’re unreliable, stay somewhere else.

It s a scam dont book it! I booked a bed in dorms after filling up info and paying the deposit, I got directed to an error page which never happened before! I checked my balance, the amount was withdrawn from my bank account. I then proceeded to check their website for contact, the website was down by the host server. The email is not available anymore and it was very hard to find it since there is no website or google info about it. And the phone number of course directed me straight to voice mail. I have accepted that I lost my deposit and booked another place in Lj. After staying there, I went to check on the hostel it looked so horrible and nasty. Please there are plenty of places in the city look for something else!!

We booked through an Agency. The description was different from what we found at the arrival: nice and "d'antan" from the outside, but it was the hell inside. I slept in hostels several times once I was young, so if you are looking for privacy look for another place. The guy at the reception looks like it was there by accident, kind but still we felt unexpected. Not to mention several w.c. in the reception as you can see in the picture, not to mention the smell once you entered the building and the general mess. Not for us surely.

This the worst hostel. Nothing matches the pictures online and everything is dirty and smells moldy and damp. The reception employee told us we could get our money back by reaching out to them by email, we've never heard of them back after 4 emails. Would not recommend

Complete scam. Rooms were cancelled 1 day before with false claims of an incorrect credit card. The same rooms appeared back online for 4x the price. Impossible to reach the accomodation! Avoid at all cost!

Really bad place - don't go there. Receptionist (calls himself Peter, which is probably a fake name he changes regularly) will give you the impression that you will get refunded but this is a plain lie and never happens (see several other reviews). Don't fall for that! Insist on getting cash!

I don't think the owners have ever touched a vacuum cleaner. There was dust everywhere and the house is falling apart. The location is good and the people we met there were very nice. The staff is never there and were hard to contact. It smelled of curry in the kitchen and the toilets smell funky. But okay if you stay for one or two.

The rooms are dirty, with stains on the sheets, walls and floor. The towels were wet... And the door didn't lock from the inside And when trying to dispute, they set us up as "no-show", blocked all communication and tried to charge our credit card again.

we were in the room for 20 minutes until we found another apartment. the current owner of villa SIMONCIC MARK cannot be reached. the number written on google does not exist. on booking, the pictures do not correspond to reality, when we arrived and saw that our room did not have a single window, that the air conditioner did not have a remote control, while the terrible stench of strong spices that came from the lower floors gathered up in the attic where our room was. the toilet bowl is a meter and a half from the pillow where you should sleep without any partition. mostly one big scam. we talked to the reception where they told us that OF COURSE WE WILL GET A REFUND. and of course we didn't get a refund. now no one answers. mostly very bad people, don't book this even if you're crazy.

Terrible place with fleas and insects all over, dirty and unorganised. I cancelled the stay when I was there, even they said full refund but later refused - absolute liar

I think everyone else’s photos speak for themselves - this hostel is the definition of being catfished. The only good aspect is the distance from the city center. If you have already booked a room with no possibility for cancellation be prepared to deal with constant moldy smell, constructions in every corner of the building, bed bugs, small kitchen, only 2 common showers… the list goes on, trust me. Workers should at least try and wash the sheets and clean up some dust… Half the people there are permanent residents, as well as the staff who’s living in the same room as guests. Very shady and weird vibe. Stay away!!

We had a great stay here, this hostel is really perfect for the minimalist traveller. You get free breakfast, you you just have to take a bowl, some cereal and milk from the cupboard yourself. The price you pay to sleep in a quiet neighborhood (next to all the embassies) is really a steal! It's only a 10 min walk from the city center and the guests who stay here are super friendly. Some of our hostel guests where still chatting and having a beer on the balcony, and we where already in our beds reading a book. One of the guests saw this and turned off the lights and then they all quietly also went to sleep. So pleasant to have respectful people in your hostel. So you have to know that this hostel is not a party hostel, you can rest assured that you can stay here and get a good night's rest. Outside you can sit in the front garden and have a drink as well, this whole hostel is just like living together in one big house, I love it!

Edit: the reply to my review is the first reply I have gotten from Mark after asking about a partial refund. I got THREE ROOMS FOR TWO PEOPLE ACTUALLY, it is clearly stated on the airbnb app. We were forced to stay there or leave and stay at full priced hotel rooms that were extremely expensive on Easter weekend. That or buy tickets and go back home. And I ended up staying another night at another hostel that was a world of difference better. Nice and new and you even get a free drink at their bar just for staying! ..and closer to the train and bus station too. Highly recommend 'zzz' go check it out. Vila Veselova pulls the old bait and switch. I rented (and paid for) 3 rooms but when I arrived they only had one room with one bed available and I got charged full price through airbnb. Owner would not give even a partial refund. Also there's no free breakfast.. it's not a nice building, not nice inside. There are very nice hostels in this city and this is not one of them. I strongly suggest you go anywhere else but here

the hotel canceled our reservation the same day. probably to practice overbooking and rent the more expensive room. we had booked thanks to booking.com who tried to contact them. the hotel did not respond. We therefore found ourselves in gallantry to find another hotel in panic. do not take the risk to book in this hotel.

The House is beautiful and everything was clean, also the Location has been great for a stroll to the center. Unfortunately I didn’t have a good night sleep as the bed I layed in had a very thin matrace and was saggy, felt like I slept on a plank. Other beds looked nicer but since they were all occupied I couldn’t switch. As I find sleeping most important in a hostel, I have to give this feedback. Also I (and also others) had to look around for a long time to find my room as no one was there and the description didn’t match with the reality.

Wish I could give this 0 stars we booked this place for 5 nights 2 nights before they cancelled our booking with a really poorly worded email not saying anything about a refund of why it was cancelled leaving us in the mud we constantly tried contacting them and hostel world to try and get our money back not only did they not reply to us at all but also we still had to pay the full price of the hostel even though they cancelled on us, this place is unacceptable and should be taken off any booking website as they have completely scammed us

External bathroom, moved mid stay to a smaller room without prior notice, rude staff.

Private loft room had one tiny circle window but none in the wet room and toilet so it had no ventilation so smelled like damp and had mould. Bedding smelled too, only there for 1 night.

Very humid, no towels or reception ever available. We experienced a fight between a few indian guys, but met a Finnish guy and drank with him. I like the concept of the vending machine for beer, except it was empty. But I slept well.

I always book this hostel when i go to Ljubljana! 5m from town centre and smack in between Tivoli park and the center. It's a 20 - 30m walk to the train/busstation. Very chill place!

Had a lovely stay there, arrived late in the evening so they sent us the door code via mail, and left a letter with information for the stay and the key. Only thing I did not like was that a long term guest there had a party till late, had to talk to them twice before it got quieter, but it seemed this was an exceptional exception, so this will probably not happen again. Breakfast could be ordered ahead or during breakfast time and was specifically made for each person, as corona does not allow for a buffet

Not great. On arrival it looked like the house in the film Fight Club, rang the bell and was greeted by another guest... Nobody around to check in guests, one guy who had arrived the previous day ended up staying somewhere else as the same had happened to him. I managed to get checked in within a couple of hours but some had been waiting most of the day, booked via Hostelworld which asks for an ETA... Of course while waiting you can't really go get a shower, go out for food etc which really eats into the time you have, quite annoying as this place is right over the road from the huge park. Ah yes, the road, it's overlooking the main road, so don't expect a quiet nights sleep. On the plus side it is cheap, but I'd prefer to pay 25% more and have a decent place to stay. Lesson learned. My roomies and fellow guests were great though, I guess that's par for the course when you're used to sharing rooms with strangers. Amazing how the place has been left to rot when it shares the neighborhood with all of the embassies with some incredible properties on the doorstep.

Modern, clean and comfortable hostel in a beautiful part of town. Staff friendly and helpful. But is tax. too much costly.

  • 1/5 Emma N. 9 months ago on Google
Dirty bedding with stains, wet towels on the bed when we arrived, wierd stains all over the carpet and on the walls and the room looked like no one had cleaned it for a while. It was so bad that we decided to leave after 30 minutes and book another accommodation. A major disappointment as the pictures online is far from what the actual room looked like. Just a complete scam! Wish I could give 0 stars as 1 is more than it deserves.

Very friendly Staff, large rooms and a good but not perfect location. But the awesome staff would always get me back to the Vila. Definitely one of the most cosy hostels in LJ.

  • 5/5 Marko K. 1 year ago on Google
It looks littlebit rustical but it's much better. Toilet is great, kitchen I didn't use but beds are wide and great with small places where you can leave you small stuff. Each bed has plug in so you can charge you gadgets from the bed

  • 4/5 Hubert S. 1 year ago on Google
Had a really nice stay. I had a bed in the big room. For smoking there was a balcony. Kitchen was a bit small but fine. Staff and the other guests were nice, open and helpful. Only problem: you must pay your stay when you arrive and you can't cancel. So be aware and don't book too far in advance.

  • 5/5 Dani W. 2 years ago on Google
If you prefer a social hostel this is the place to be. Peter is a great host, he might make you a great homemade lemonade. You can have a great laugh. with the ‘long term visitors’ as well. If you look in a dictionary for ‘hostel atmosphere’, this hostel will appear in the top list. Crew and visitors, thanks for the great memories ✅

  • 4/5 kc 1 year ago on Google
Great hostel, needs more showers! Kitchen needs a oven and microwave and basics like a kettle. We got alright beds and lockers or should I said cupboard was way too small the rest of the people at least had a more study bed and bigger lockers. It was quite annoying with the glass door as the light was on all night!
