The service staff was very bored, unfriendly and slow. There were communication problems between service and kitchen. Waiting time was unbelivable - half an hour for scrambled eggs. They forgot parts of the order - didn‘t take notes and no apologies at all. I would not come back again.

Cozy hook along the canal in central Ljubljana. The food tasted good and it went away. However, I missed the personal service, the waiter was stressed and forgot to come out with cutlery, salt and pepper, even delayed the payment. Simple things that one should notice.

Overrated hotel that shouldn’t be a member of Design Hotel Group. Having studied hospitality management, this hotel falls far from anything remotely related to hospitality and welcoming. It already started by trying to arrange transport from the dragon bridge to the hotel, the receptionist told us the driver would not wait for us which resulted in us having to call a few times to arrange the transport because no driver was there. The rooms are incredibly small, lacking tasteful design and architecture. Surprisingly enough it is a member of the design hotel group, the lobby is anything but well designed, the rooms are not well clean and the service is horrendous. We asked on our second day for the room to be cleaned and to have some shampoo (none was available upon checkin) after spending the day touring the city, we arrived to a unkept room and no bathing amenities, the justification was simply “the housekeeping team said they’d clean the room”. After touring the city, it became clear that there are much more tasteful and authentic boutique hotels in the area. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, simply due to the overpriced, cubicle-sized rooms and lack of guest-friendliness. The bathroom is practically next to the bed with zero privacy, a simple cheap curtain separates the area. Don’t even bother booking, save money and go to a local cute hotel that doesn’t label itself as a supposed “design hotel”

Highly disappointed in the level of service. A wine tasting menu that was supposed to have some snacks to go with the wines, and yet not even some olives were provided. The ashtray hasn’t been emptied throughout the entire tasting. When confronted about it the bartender didn’t even apologise. Not appropriate for such an establishment.

No parking! You need to find a public one which is sone 300 m away, which is not so convenient with a lot of luggage.

Very nice small boutique hotel right in the heart of the old town. We really enjoyed our stay here even though there were small inconveniences: the room is pretty small, the shower door did not close completely so it kind of flooded the whole bathroom floor, and the sink was quite clogged. The bathroom is so small there was barely enough space to put all my personal belongings. Also, on our first morning there the restaurant was quite busy and the staff were overwhelmed so the service was slow. Maybe because it was a Sunday as it didn‘t happen on any other day. But these inconveniences were made up by many other good qualities of the hotel. The a la carte breakfast is absolutely fabulous. The location couldn‘t get any better as it‘s right in the centre of the city and even though the street is quite busy it was never loud in the room. The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to help us with any requests. Overall, a very enjoyable experience with a great value for money. If we visited Ljubljana again we would definitely come back - but this time we‘ll book a bigger room!

Not 4-star quality: rooms are outdated, old furnishings and the water didn't drain away during showering, hence the bathroom was flooded. On the plus side: spacious bedroom, central location (hence noisy at night) and friendly reception desk.

Stayed here on my honeymoon back in 2015. The location is perfect, the staff is super nice and the food is great. Best of all is the small rooftop pool. I have recommended this hotel to several people. Yes, the rooms are small but so are most rooms in Europe! I especially loved sitting in the alley and eating the restaurant's food!

Had dinner here not a guest. Recommend for dinner. Great food and 1 waiter covered the whole outside dining, practically running, but keeping up.

On this somewhat busy, somewhat rainy Sunday evening in late August, most nearby restaurants didn't have the food we wanted or were full. We settled on the Vander as it had a table open, a table by the river. The waiter was either very harried or bordering on the rude. When we ordered our food, we asked for a glass of tap water, a common and acceptable practice by locals and us in other parts of the former Yugoslavia. The waiter said there was none available as it "wasn't working" but "bottled water was available" (for sale). Finding this response odd, lacking in credibility, and a scam, we declined to order the bottle of water. Wanting a salad, I ordered the "market greens". It turned out to have very little green and was just an order of semi-warm steamed vegetables - not bad, but not a salad, and not served hot as cooked vegetables should be. Another kicker was that when we paid, we found that the bill included an unexpected cover charge of 1.50 euros each. You can see why we were disappointed, and this does not even address the high prices of the menu items. There are many other restaurants in the Old City - best to try another. Or better yet, go across the river and maybe a block inland. You will find less expensive food, better options, and, with any luck, better treatment.

This was an adorable hotel right on the canal. The hotel staff was so helpful when our luggage didn’t arrive with us - helping to arrange another car back to the airport to pick it up the following day. The rooms were spacious and modern with our windows having a view of the canal. The bed was comfortable and the water pressure in the shower could have blown the hair off your head it was so good.

Location is fantastic, as is the roof top terrace. The rooms are a little bare and too minimalistic for my taste. There was poor service at breakfast, I ordered the pate and toast, I was given the pate, and got told they can't give me toast because it takes 10 minutes to heat up the toaster... despite serving everyone around who had ordered the avacado or pate on toast their toast...

Best gaff in Ljubljana. Breakfast was best I've ever had in a hotel. Clean and rooftop pool. Lush when it was 35c outside. Plus monica brought us beers by the pool in an ice bucket. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Recently stayed with my family for 3 nights. Everything was fantastic, perfect location, loved the breakfast, especially the staff. Especially Alexander who went above and beyond and is one of the kindest, nicest people we have ever met. He really is a credit to your company. The Peatties (UK)

Very rude service. The waiter came to us and stared yelling and being verbally aggressive because we didn’t know that the next tables were from the next bar.He said he was the owner but that isn’t true because we did our homework. We asked him nicely to please don’t be rude and speak in an normal tone or go away. Would not recommend to go here.

A wonderful time. Stayed 2 nights. The trip was from our wonderful daughter and Son in Law for my husband and my 50th Wedding Anniversary and my birthday. Hotel everything we needed. Lovely breakfast and the waitress brought a Special dessert and we had Prosecco when she knew it was my birthday.

The food was great. The staff not so much. Vocally discussing other co-workers and the issues they have with them is not what you expect from an establishment of this rank.

We loved everyhting about our stay at the Vander Urbani, The locations right in the center by the revier is excellent! Then you have the cute roof top dunk pool with views of the river and castle. Rooms were very morden and clean, We had breakfast included and it was a la carte and was excelelnt really quality ingredents, Dinner was good was well, However the standout was all the staff to frendly and attentive. We go stuck after our flight was canceled, we checked back in and they helped us with loads of things to help, much appreciated, Thanks!

Real disappointment. Well located But the service is minimal and the beds are old soft in very bad state. It is unacceptable to have bad beds for a hotel. I woke up with back ache after one night. The morning of departure there was no Hot water to take a shower.

I saw a sign saying burger and decided to go in, but I never expected to find such an amazing gourmet burger !!! Wagyu perfectly cooked, pink in the middle, crunchy bacon, delicious sauce, toasted bun ! Also the fries were ridiculously good, crispy outside and soft inside. I had a selection of cheese with dried fruit and a cocktail absolutely delicious, Vander Mule - a refreshing version of the original. I'm definitely going back !

Nice hotel, perfect location in the middle of the city. Affordable price. There were still some things the homepage suggested better: - pool (nice to have one!) -> no sun beds or enough seats to spent time there. Way too small, there was no little "waterfall". And no service on the terrace... - the bubbles bar was closed through out our stay (4 days) - our towels didn't got changed during our stay. We didn't expect daily change - but if we put one on the floor, this one should be replaced in a 4* hotel. The location, the style and the affordable price made a lot things better. We still had a great time. The homepage was a little bit too promising.

Location was great, but the rooms were so cramped. There is Nowhere to sit down your luggage, and the bathroom is practically in the bedroom.

We decided to stop here for breakfast having read the blackboard menu showing what was on offer. However, having taken a seat we were immediately informed in no uncertain terms that hotel guests were prioritised and we would have to wait 30 minutes. Being in no particular hurry we decided to wait but were a little surprised that we were not offered coffee in the meantime. Eventually our order was taken and I decided upon scrambled eggs and bacon. When it was served it was just the scramble eggs, so I pointed out that I had also ordered bacon and the waitress just said “I will have to speak to the kitchen” in a rather stern manner as if I’d ordered something exotic. Eventually the bacon arrived, long after I’d eaten the scrambled egg and without a word of apology. My wife order the avocado on toast which, when it arrived was about the size of a postage stamp. Having lived in Ljubljana for five years we know most of the good places to go and, based on our experience today, I certainly would not recommend this one. The service bordered on being rude and hostile, and certainly not welcoming. I appreciate that hotel guests may require preferential service, but if that is the case why advertise breakfast for non-guests? I would suggest, in the very least, that the staff require some training in customer care and service.

We spent two nights at this hotel in the heart of Ljubljana. I would choose it again and will choose it every time I return to this wonderful City. Perfect location, along the river, within walking distance of all the most important things to see and visit. Beautiful structure. Clean rooms. Staff helpful and kind. Spacious breakfast! It was my first time in Slovenia but what it left me with makes me say "I can't wait to go back!"! Thank you ❤️

I never slept in such awful beds. They are old soft and woke up with back ache. The morning of departure no Hot water to take a shower. It is well located But that is it. Sorry for the 2 stars but deserved. A hotel with bad beds is unacceptable.

Came for lunch in low season. On arrival we told waiter my wife was gluten and dairy free. Her meal arrived with bread waifers encasing stewed apple and dairy in the celeriac puree, the waiters response was peel the bread off and leave the puree, we sent the dish back and explained that the bread outer was not to be just removed and re- presented, however the delphine potatoes came back with puree still on them and the apple looked like the bread had just been removed. This restaurant isn't cheap and the food we could eat was well presented however allergies should be taken seriously.

The hotel location is a two minute walk to the city center. You’re on the river walk to the central farmers market and any close by restaurants. The service is wonderful. Leopold arranged transportation and answered any itinerary related questions. Also the hotel restaurant is actually Michelin rated cuisine. The room was modern, clean, and enjoyable. Would recommend to anyone looking to visit Ljubljana

Great location. Small and smelly rooms. Great service. If you want location, this is one of the best places. You will be at the heart of Ljubljana. But the rooms are tiny and have a funny smell. The decor is ok and the bathroom is even smaller. The staff is very nice

The location couldn't be better. You'll be a 2 minute walk from everything in Ljubljana. The service was great, staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are slick modern and very comfortable. The rooftop infinity pool was a bonus, with a direct view of the castle.

Sadly I didn’t get to stay here - we had to rearrange plans due to a medical emergency… Thankfully, the lovely colleague at reception was able to cancel our booking even when booking dot com said it wasn’t possible! Thank you Spela for being extremely helpful and approachable in our hour of need. I very much hope to return soon to Ljubljana and stay with you. 5* for customer service.

Perfect location right in the heart of the hustle and bustle without being noisy. Well decorated rooms and a gorgeous roof terrace with infinity plunge pool which we hadn't expected. A dip in the pool overlooking the city during the heat of the afternoon was perfect.

Good restaurant next to river Ljubljanica, in walking zone of Ljubljana center. Food is excellent.Portions are not big enough for hungry people, but for enjoy in tasties is very good. Prices are higher than should be. Friendly staff, nice terrace.

Service was so-so. Wagyu burger was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I had some food questions as I have dietary contraints and the waiter was not helpful at all.

Lovely gourmet spot. Tables in the alley provide choice off the busy main path and still giving the green leafy views. Octopus and soup were great. The sides were below average, had chips and vegetables. (Maybe a gourmet restaurant doesn't care much about sides)
