Spectacular. A must-see in Slovenia, one of the most amazing and unique places I've ever seen. The parking lot I'd free. After buying tickets, you have to walk for a bit from the ticket booth to the actual cave entrance. It's forbidden to take photos in the cave. First, there's an artificial tunnel and finally the cave. It starts small and underwhelming, but soon starts to impress with huge stalagmites. They're both very tall and extremely thick. Then you get to the underground canyon, which is misty and dimly lit. The mist gives the cave a fantastical aura, making it look like something straight from a fairy tale or a fantasy book. After exiting the main cave it's possible to return straight to the parking lot, but I recommend taking the longer route (extra 30 minutes compared to the shorter one). It leads through a beautiful canyon and a smaller cave. You can take photos there and it's very impressive, though not as large or deep as the main cave. Then you have to walk a little bit along the road to get back to the parking lot. Strongly recommended.

Incredible place, absolutely breathtaking. The murmuring river in the underground canyon leaves unforgettable impression. The scenes inside are like in Lord of the Rings (or Portal 2 game on underground levels). When you're leaving the cave, you have 3 options to get back to the initial point: two short routes and one long. It's really worth to take the longest route (#3, takes 40min) and see all the beauty of the canyon. Unfortunately, photos are forbidden inside, even without flash, there is a monitoring (however, a lot of people still do it)

Under UNESCO protection the biggest underground canyon in Europe. One hour of descent into darkness....well if u see when they turn the lights off behind you. Total darkness, amazing.

Looked expensive at 22 euros for the guided tour, but absolutely worth it. Tour is a bit more than an hour through the main caves, and afterwards you can do another unguided part for 30min to 1hour which is amazing. In may it is still not that busy. Highly recommended. Note that photos are not allowed in the guided part of the tour

The place is stunning and leaves you speechless and would deserve 10 stars, I absolutely loved it and suggest anyone to go there BUT... the fact that I can't take pictures (and I was there for that reason only.. As many other tourists..) I don't agree with.. Sorry but as I'm not a geologist or a speleologist I don't have any other reason to go there to take pictures as memories or as cool place to share on social... I share some pictures found online just to let you know what to expect inside there. Again, loved the place, but hated the policy of no pictures.. Not admissible on 2022.

Probably the most amazing geological phenomenon I have ever seen...in a country with one of the largest concentrations of caves. The interior of the cave is breathtakingly picturesque, and the long 800steps guided tour around it's irregular geometry is a rewarding physical challenge. The Skocjan Caves is a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the largest underground canyon in the world.

Absolutely gorgeous place, breathtaking cave. Definitely must-see place. 24€ per adult, recommend online reservation. Taking pictures not allowed in the main cave. Just hide your phones and enjoy the cave.

We visited the Skocjan Caves recently, and it was an incredible experience. The natural beauty of these caves is awe-inspiring. The underground chambers, stalactites, and stalagmites are a testament to the wonders of nature. The guided tour was informative, and our guide was knowledgeable about the geological history of the caves. The highlight was definitely the enormous underground canyon with the rushing river. It felt like being in a different world. The organization and facilities at the site were excellent, making the visit comfortable and enjoyable. However, one thing that disappointed me was the prohibition on taking photographs inside the cave, it would have been wonderful to capture some memories of this remarkable place. I would also caution against visiting the souvenir shop on the premises. The salesperson there was unfriendly and seemed disinterested in helping tourists, which was a stark contrast to the overall positive experience of the caves. Despite these drawbacks, I highly recommend visiting the Skocjan Caves to anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature and geological wonders. It's a must-see attraction in Slovenia.

Spectacular in size and impressive. It is like visiting underground canyons with river rapids. The scenery is stunning both inside and outside. We definitely recommend to do the long trail. It is very different from Postojna caves, they are not comparable.

Although it's not allowed to take photos in the caves (the place is on the UNESCO list) you are guaranteed to have the greatest experience of your life. To my mind, it is a far more authentic and less commercial attraction than the Postojna cave... REMEMBER TO BUY THE TICKETS IN ADVANCE!!!

The caves are amazing, there is some massive caves. The tour guide is very informative. The pathway is well lit up, not too bad walking around. There is the river that is so loud when we get nearer

Warning! You must buy the tickets online, even a few days before, because it is a very popular attraction, and all tickets are sold out in advance. First I was very disappointed. We booked our tickets online, but when we arrived, we had no parkin place. We had to park our car - following other disappointed visitors - on bus parkin spots. We had no other choice if we wanted to arrive to the meeting point in time. But later, when the tour started, we forgot all our inconveniences. The guides were super kind, the cave was fenomenal, and the path back to the parking place was so beautiful, that it could have been a separate attraction alone. Although it is stated that the temperature is 12 degrees Celsius in the cave, the truth is that it is just a short part of the cave, later it gets much warmer, so you do not need to have too much clothes. It is enough to have a light pullover for the first few hundred meters. As soon as you start climbing the stairs - there are many of them -, you won't be cold at all. Do not miss this place! Note: since taking photos in the cave is not allowed, I took my attached pictures on our way back.

Beautiful, magic place, but it's hard to get there. We had a train to Divace and than we had to walk about 45 minutes though the forest... There was no bus. The way back was the same ☹️ 4* because you can't take photos inside the Caves... And because there is no transport from the train station to the Caves. Highly recommended if you have a car or you like to walk:)

These caves were crazy awesome. The tour was fun and I formative, but the caves are just so big. I felt like I was in an Indiana jones movie. So great. At the end of the tour there is a short walk back and a longer one. DO THE LONGER WALK! It is seriously worth the extra 30 min, and you get to see bonus caves and very nice landscapes.

If you travel to Slovenia, Skocjan Caves are a must. The whole canyon system is beyond Impressive. You get to walk in some scary bridges but is totally worth it. UNESCO World heritage and a very peculiar experience. Is good to plan in advance how to get there though because is not quite well connected due to COVID.

Simply the best cave I've ever been to. There are a lot of long caves, deep ones, caves with big halls. But this one makes them all look insignificant. The grand canyon made by river Reka is truly a must see sight. It feels like Moria coming alive, you can imagine dwarfs creating the old tourist paths, cut into the rocks. And then fighting ordes of orcs there Words don't do justice to it, just find an opportunity and visit it. Some information about getting there as of COVID times) There are no shuttle buses from Divaca as of now. You can either get a taxi or just walk there, the path is well marked and easy.

amazing caves with underground river & canyon. 3 options to return to the starting point - short walk & lift, medium walk and long walk along the river through more caves. Lots of walking up and down. most paths are wet and somewhat slippery, bring good shoes. photography only allowed after the main cave, but its still worth taking a camera. Arrived about 30 min before the ticket time and had time to go to the top observation point.

Beautiful caves, unfortunately you can't take pictures inside, we walked the longest circuit with our grandchildren and there was no problem. It's best to order tickets online and you have peace of mind.

Love it! It is so worth it to visit it. I don't have a lot of pictures, because of safety, it is prohibited to take them. But I have a lot of nice memories.. it is open-minded and has a wow effect. We were during October, so it wasn't so touristic, but of course, the tickets are better to buy online.

This was the most amazing caves I’ve ever seen, and is definitely a must see if you ever visit Slovenia!! Remember to buy a guided tour ticket in advance. Our tour guide, Vesna, was just the best, really good at explaining and telling stories about the caves! You are not allowed to take pictures inside the caves, which really makes you take in the experience. There are good facilities at the visitor center, where you can buy food and souvenirs. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Slovenia

Incredible underground network of caves that takes a couple of hours on a guided tour. The concrete walkway is lit, and has hand rails but not suitable for anyone unsure on their feet. Well worth the extra 250m walk at the end to see the viewpoint on a clear day! There is car parking on site, with toilets and a cafe.

Spectacular cave. As part of UNESCO Wolrd Heritage it’s a must visit in Slovenia. The tour will take 2/3h depending if you go for the full tour or you exit at the end of the main part. I would highly recommend the full tour.

Wonderful experience and must see for those who like speleological marvels 😊 If you want to see how speleology works in beautiful natural heritage of Slovenia come here to Skocjanske caves rather than to popular Postojna caves. It is more mature experience so I wouldn't recommend it to small children or those who don't care about science or history of this place. It's more suited for mountaineering enthusiast. History of the place all together with natural events inside caves that has collapsed multiple times over the years to create nice and beautiful reservation has left more emotional memories than other caves I have seen so far. One of the factors you enjoy it here is due to the fact that you are not allowed to take pictures by any means inside the caves. Although some people don't care and take out their phones this is explained before the exhibition by the Slovenian/English speaking guide. We were instructed to use our eyes the old fashioned way. Afaik nobody got sued for waking up bats or causing some disturbance in the cave but we were told the is some large financial fee for taking pictures. After you get out of the cave to daylight there is no issue and you can take as many picture as you want. Inside the cave there is huge underground canyon, beautiful sceneries ( of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, curtains ) and multiple routes of the first explorers. What to see? At least all VIEWING POINTS and ROUTE NUMBER 1 the red one with guide. What to buy? Definitely tour guide book ( at the time of visit only 5 eur) which is translated to many languages and has more information than you'll hera from local guide.

An impressive hole. Took us (a family of four) a little over two hours to do the cave tour and the extended walk (exit 3). The second half is mostly uphill which can get a little tiring but all in all an incredible experience.

The cave itself is astonishingly huge and the road across is equally wonderful with its lights snaking up and down in the darkness. Both the first area with the dripstones and the second one with the river are awe-inspiring, but the tour is led in such a big hurry that no time is left to take these sights in. Fair warning: even though the website has a picture of the cross section which includes an elevator, this is not present in reality, and is replaced by about eight hundred steps leading to the ground level from the cave exit. The guides were friendly, accommodating and helpful though.

Great experience. It is a must. In autumn and winter there are only two tours per day, except Sundays and public holidays. The tour takes maximum 2h. You can go the for a small walk around the dolina or at least to the view point which is at 200 m from the info point.

Absolutely blown away by this cave system! Stunning. The sheer size, the formations, the will lit and designed walk ways.. all added to the experience. The only down side for me was how fast we had to move through. The guide was excellent and knowledgeable but because of the sheer numbers of people who visit, there's not a lot of time to really appreciate the beauty. Our group was about 35.. and when you are out of the cave, there continues to be beautiful nature and also another cave of you have the time. There is a lot of walking. So if you have mobility issues you may want to talk with someone to make sure it's suitable.

We had an amazing experience here on a stormy day. By far the most beautiful and biggest cave I have ever visited. Plus, it’s very affordable and the tour guide shares interesting information. The group is quite big, but that turned out to be okay as the guide made sure that everyone could understand him well.

Amazing cave - totally worth it. The tour inside has about 400 steps to go up and down but the view is amazing and the guide information quite interesting (mind that the initial group will be defined at the entrance in smaller groups so the access is more controlled and information could be heard from all). The guided tour is not so long (around 2km) but after exiting it, you can take 3 paths - if you take the longest one, even it has again many stairs up and down is a total beauty! I totally recommend the longest trail after existing the guided tour.

  • 5/5 Beata J. 2 years ago on Google
Great place, spectacular views not for everyone there were people that got a bit shaky and panicky. we were just unaware that it was a hell of a walk and hundreds of steep steps. Pictures inside are not allowed.

  • 5/5 P G. 8 months ago on Google
Such a great experience. If you go, definitely take the red trail when you come out of the cave. Be sure to get reservations in advance. All of the tours were sold out on the day we went. The initial portion of the guided tour does not allow photography which is unfortunate, but I guess it keeps the tours moving.

Breathtaking nature and not too touristic. You have fantastic walks and just feel small in all this beauty.

  • 5/5 Brian R. 1 year ago on Google
WOW! Pictures don't do it any justice. If you are even remotely close to the area, this is a must experience. The modern walking path in the cave is well lit and easily traversed. You can see remnants of the older paths, especially near the end of the tour. Imagine being one of the earlier explorers with just a dimly lit head lamp!

Incredibly beautiful nature where the guides take you through the cave. At the beginning, they guide you and tell you everything about the origin, the history. The path is not too long, it is a nice walk underground. You see the old paths, how our ancestors chose their path, and you can't believe your eyes. You then have the option of continuing your journey outside or returning home across the meadow. I recommend watching further, which is independent, you can't get lost. Incredibly beautiful underground, a walk through the canyon outside takes you to a completely different world, full of stone windows, bridges, water, moss, depths...Must see on your own

One of a kind experience! Visited in September morning around 10am, no problem parking and not too many people however we had to wait for an hours to get the 11am tour. Nevertheless it wasn't boring as we have taken a 15min walk towards a nice observation point. However I would suggest you purchase the ticket upfront. Tour is quite long, around 1.5h in all, initially taking around 15 mins passing next to the road to reach the cave entrance (most boring part). Following a quick intro then, you start an incredible walk/tour of the silent cave (no river flowing) with its enormous cave formations amongst which the "Giant" and following which the underground huge Canyon which the river carved through time. It was simply impressive, an experience like no other. You are literally walking in another subterranean world where it is so large that you feel you are walking in a canyon or rocky formations at night. At the end of the guided tour you exit the cave and you face 3 options. Two options are 15mins and 30mins walk back to the car park. Last option (the one we chose) is a long 1hr 30mins walk around the park taking you past nice waterfalls, an additional cave and canyons. I highly suggest this however it is long and prepare yourself for many stairs and walking! You are unluckily not allowed to take any pictures and video during the guided tour which was a bit of the downside to it but truly remarkable and well organised tour!

The tour was stunning. I must say, the cave was bigger and even more impressive than in all the pictures you see of it. I was just astonished most of the times. It does get a little bit hard if you’re afraid of heights because there is a bridge really high up that you need to cross, but the feeling of seeing everything going on in this cave is remarkable

  • 5/5 Thomas C. 1 year ago on Google
The most beautiful cave I have every visited. It is amazing to see that nature can create such massive caves underground. Be aware that the cave has become a big tourist attraction and that buying tickets beforehand is highly recommended. Visiting the cave is done in groups of 40 with a guide. Inside of the cave it is NOT allowed to take any pictures (only at the exit). At the exit of the cave there are three options of returning to the main building. I recommend taking the longest route, if the walking doesn't bother you, as it will take you through some extra caves where you can take some pictures.
