Before coming here I did not know anything about WW1 in Slovenia. Or Italy taking so much land between the wars. Or that Trieste was Slovenian. Very interesting and helpful lady at the desk. Spent three hours here. Lots to see.

Very detailed museum. We allotted an hour and I could have spent two. The newest exhibit on the first floor has quite a bit of information to read that goes year by year. There are many artifacts, uniforms, and photos to see.

Great (in content) small (in size) museum. Highly recommended, including the 20-minutes introductory documentary. In my case, there was an emotional tie with the place, as my Italian grandfather fought on the Isonzo front. The surrounding nature is awesome!

A nice collection of items although a bit small - a single uniform for each nation, a single rifle per nation,.... A large portion of museum are plaques with information and timelines. Worth of visiting but not traveling to Kobarid solely for the museum.

It's an exceptional museum and I recommend everyone to visit it. Be prepared for coming out depressed though, they show the First World War in all its cruelty and suffering. Their exhibition on how pointless a war is stroke me like no other before. It is a long read, but totally worth it. With each new battle (and there were a dozen in this area) it is more and more clear that people were dying for nothing and that the incompetence and lack of empathy of army leaders has no limits. You can feel the pain of the soldiers through countless photos and texts. The magnitude of the war is clear in the entire valley through the shear amount of memorials and war scrap not only in the museums, but also private collections displayed outside the houses of the village inhabitants. After visiting the museum, you can also follow the footsteps of the soldiers by visiting the large system of trenches hidden in the forests and seeing the final resting place of thousands of fallen Italian soldiers at the huge charnel house. It is sad to know that this picturesque place had such a violent history and that some people have still not learned from the mistakes of the past and the suffering continues...

One of the most beautiful museums dedicated to World War I. Every part of the museum is translated into 4 languages, Italian English German and Slovenian. There are also guides explaining all the different sections of the museum. It is really worth a visit.

Not a big museum but with an immense collection of artifacts related to WWI, weapons, helmets, boots, shells and a lot more. Very informative and detailed, matching the curiosity of those who go deep into the subject. It is built right in the heart of the battlefield so that you jump outside and fall right into real trenches and artillery nests. Also because of this it is amazing.

Watch the movie first before going around all the museum. You never get taught the WW1 history in western Europe this was a good insight into WW1 on the Italian front.

Smiley and helpful staff (were kind enough to put the documentary on in English for us), a clearly laid out representation of ww1 from a different perspective than the UK Vs Germany I always think of and a great insight into the history of the area and where the Italian border used to or would have been *also a sad reminder that peace only lasted another ~20 years

Kobarid Museum—This little museum is FULL of info, photos and artifacts! The number of good quality photographs from WWI really surprised us. It sounds like some can do this in an hr, but if you want to read most of the text and watch the film, you will need more like 2 hrs. Don’t freak out when you see all the text to read; you only need to read the quarter of it that is in your language. The time we spent was a pleasant experience until a tour group showed up, but that just meant dodging them in order to be able to inspect the exhibits.

Seriously one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. Insane amounts of information in four languages! Great artifacts.

My husband and I visited the Kobarid Museum on our trip to Slovenia in March 2023. We are both serving members of the Canadian army and have a personal and professional interest in military museums. We have visited several but the Kobarid Museum greatly exceeded our expectations. The main exhibit during our visit focused on the frontlines of Italy and Austria-Hungary during the First World War but had exhibits touching on history from the Roman Empire up to the contemporary period. The price of admission is more than reasonable for the amount of detail in the exhibits. We were blown away when one of the managers told us that this museum is a private initiative that receives little to no government subsidies. The level of detail was exceptional, many exhibits were very moving emotionally, and you can tell that there is a lot of passion put into maintaining this museum. Additionally, we hiked up to Fort Hermann in Bovec the day before and one of the exhibits included a 3D rendering of the frontlines of the First World War – we were able to see where Fort Hermann was and how it was just a small piece of a larger puzzle! Our only regret was not having budgeted more time in our schedule to see all of the exhibits in more detail. One hour was far from enough time. We highly recommend anyone passing through to take the time to visit and spend at least a half day.

Interesting world war one museum. A lot of info. 7 euro entrance, 20 minute video and then three floors to look around.

Very big (at least compared to other museum of the same kind) and interesting museum, in the heart of the little but gracious village of Caporetto. The parking is a bit away, but it is a nice excuse to walk through the village and take a look.

A surprisingly good museum for a small town. You get a good idea of the history of the area, but more than anything else you get a very good idea about the Soca Valley battle in WWI. Worth a visit.

A very detailed and thorough introduction to WW1, complete with military maps and soldiers’ paraphernalia. I strongly recommend the introductory film before embarking on the visit.

If you expect a World War I museum, this is not the place. Why? Because although it explains the general background of the war, the main focus of the museum is on the frontline in which italians and austrohungarians clashed for months. If you like detailed descriptions of battles, and a local focus on war history, plus plenty of rifles, helmets, mortars and military parafernalia, you will like it. If you want an overview of WWI adressing causes and participants, you will be as disappointed as me and buy a history book the day after.

A very good museum with a theme of the First World War. The tour starts with a short documentary on the Soca front and leads us through the lives of soldiers. The only disadvantage is the small number of exhibits exhibited (I devoured myself at the Military Museum Tabor in Lokev).

One of the premier ww1 museums in the region. Well worth the visit. In the middle of the battle area. Great displays multimedia etc..

Really amazing and detailed exhibition, must see for history buffs, but others might also be interested, if only for the local part of history. If you are interested, however, please plan to spend at least 1-2 hours with it, since the exhibition has 3 levels and the curator may also share some stories and information with you

Actually a very good museum. It’s just enough long, shows interesting stories from the war and has a big collection of weapons and other artifacts

Very informative. Step by step explanation about the area during WW1. It was explained that the usual exhibition of personal stories was changed into the detailed history, do demonstrate the futility and idiocy of war. The second and third floor have a more typical exhibition, with pieces and photos of soldiers. There is even a small part detailing the history of Kobarid all the way back to Roman times.

Great place. You can feel the horror and suffering. However, very little Hungarian references (only to the "Austro-Hungarian Monarchy") and apart from the intro video no hungarian text as if were no Hungarian victims of the war.

A lot of different things to see and enjoy. All exhibits are also in German, Italian and English. The guide is awesome and helpful. They also have a special projection which presents the events of the war in a fun and easy way. Its simply great and a must visit!

While focussed heavily on the 12th Battle of the Insonzo, the museum’s artefacts and other displays really tell the story of WW1 in this area. English, German and Slovenian text is provided for all displays, so it’s very accessible.
