I usually enjoy this restaurant as it is good value for money (if you visit in even numbers) with a variety of treat food. As my pictures show, the menu has a buy one get one free option on main meals, which make them all great priced if you are visiting in even numbers. I ordered the nachos followed by pizza and side fries, which filled me up. I gave it a 4 stars instead of 5 as one time i visited, the pizza was much smaller than usual but it is best to just ask the size of pizza before ordering, which is what i did on this occasion. I will continue to visit as the prices are very good and i am happy with the food!

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay with a Camper and enjoy Edinburgh (Edinbvrgh) then you MUST stay here. A huge thank you to The Staff and The Old Colliery for making our stay absolutely exceptional. The staff were very welcoming when we arrived and helped by providing details of the bus numbers etc to get from the park and ride into the city centre. We then took a bus tour around the city and a tour of the castle. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent and we would definitely enjoy staying here again. Thank you to everyone. 🤙

Little gem outside Edinburgh. We had a wonderful family time at the old colliery. We had a great dinner, full of choices for all, even the team offered a dog's menu! Nice and chilled atmosphere, and lovely and helpful staff. The pool table was a bonus too. Really recommended to spend quality time with family and friends, and even on your own.

All staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We didn't wait long for our food. We enjoyed gammon steaks, rump steak and fish and chips. Followed by sweets which were all enjoyable. A good experience all round.

We booked online which was very straightforward. We are arrived to a friendly welcome and taken to our table. The service was amazing from start to finish and the food was also really good and our table of 7 all enjoyed. Would highly recommend this place and we will be back soon for more amazing food.

We were served by Aimee who was very pleasant and had great customer service! The restaurant was quiet and so our food came super fast! Food was great! we all had a starter and a main, the only issue would be the soup in which the bowl wasn’t even half full. Other than that perfect atmosphere, staff brilliant, will definitely be back!

Excellent service and the staff were very friendly. The food was delicious and I loved the special dog table with fresh water, bowls, dog biscuits and the best touch was the special dog menu. Love that it is dog friendly… our dog really enjoyed his sausage and veg dinner and had a full belly after. He also got spoilt with lots of attention and cuddles. They catered for my allergy, which was no problem at all. We will be back soon.

Celebrated a family birthday. Booked over the phone and staff were friendly and helpful. When we arrived at The Old Colliery, the restaurant was clean and welcoming. The staff were friendly and attentive, they were always ‘just there’ when we needed anything. The food was great and steaks cooked as per our individual preferences. The music was not loud which created a nice ambiance.

We stayed overnight in the car park in our motorhome, found Sam and Andrea very welcoming. Lovely meal, good value for money. Love how dog friendly they are,offering water and even a lovely dog menu. Perfect stopover for us, just 2 minutes off city bypass. Many thanks.

Family birthday celebration meal. Staff, food and location excellent for us. Staff could not have been more pleasant and attentive. Facilities for our grandchildren kept them amused, it was a very safe environment for them. Food fresh well presented and plentiful. We have no hesitation in recommending a visit to this restaurant.

Worth a visit,friendly staff,nice atmosphere and good food reasonably priced. Very dog friendly with a separate area and doggy menu. Special offers on certain days like pizza Mondays,burger Tuesdays as well as steak and curry days.Good for families.

Had an amazing lunch here with the family today. 2 adults and 3 kids for just over £60! Portions were large, food was unbelievably tasty and we’ve all had to come home for a nap!! Our server was lovely (Jamie?) and everything was absolutely faultless!!

First time visiting this pub, and we'll definitely be back. The staff were so friendly and our food was beautiful as was our dog, Nalas'. They actually have a doggy menu of fresh food which Nala devoured. Perfect place to spend a few hours having food and drinks that you dont have to hurry home to the dog as you have them with you.

Stayed 2 nights in campervan in car park, since most campsites were fully booked. Warm welcome, also very dog friendly which was very convenient for us, staff very helpful especially Annie who gave us lots of advice and recommendations on visiting Edinburgh and the park and ride, and even greated us every morning to ask how we got on. Callum also informed us of the migies on our next leg of our journey which helped us make sure we had all the right protection. Food was of chain variety but definitely worth the price. The doggy menu was very useful since our baby had just turned 11 and we wanted to treat her. Will definitely visit if we are in the area again.

I produced a short film shoot at Shawfair Park and Ride in 2021, under COVID restrictions. With nowhere to use as a unit base for cast & crew, I reached out The Old Colliery on Facebook and Calum, the manager, was more than happy to help. Calum allowed us access to the pub when they were closed so that we had a warm space to use as a production office, make-up space, wardrobe department and most importantly - toilets! We returned shortly after for a meal and the food was lovely! The team done a great job setting up a lovely area for us to celebrate, too. Thank you to Calum and the team for your support in making our little film a reality!

We stayed at The Old Colliery for two nights this weekend camping in our van in the car park. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and kind to us! The food was beautiful and brilliant value, the location is perfect right next to the park and ride into Edinburgh. We would 100% recommend this pub and cannot wait to come back!

Went out for a joint birthday meal! Was lovely service, staff really friendly and accommodating making sure we always had all that we needed making the experience so relaxed and enjoyable. Not overcrowded and a nice spread between tables so doesn’t feel cramped at all. Overall such a good visit and would recommend to come again :))

Went here for mother in laws birthday today 22nd of October 2022. The service was amazing. The food was amazing the food tasted fresh and was well cooked. Staff amazing. Facilities well maintained good wee children’s corner that my 2 year old loved also a nice wee kids play area outside. The only thing was they didn’t have coke a cola but wasn’t that much of deal but would definitely go back here for a meal.

Always a warm welcome at The Old Colliery. We bring Dad for meals and the Owner makes a special fuss of him which we appreciate so much. The food and hospitality is excellent and would highly recommend it. Many Thanks again The Fallon Family.

3 course dinner served by Jamie was excellent. Good value and good food. Jamie was very attentive. Nice young man. The Manager also asked if we needed anything. Lovely evening apart from the weather.

Was busy when we arrived with our dog but made very welcome by friendly staff! Taken to our table & asked straight away if we wanted water for our dog & if we would like a drink! We had to collect our own menus but not a problem as it was busy. Order taken & food brought out in normal waiting time! Food was excellent, hot, tasty & filling! Very good sized portions! Would definitely recommend as price, 2 meals for the price of one, is great value & puddings aren’t too expensive!
