A great place to have lunch. The food is delicious. The price may seem on the high side, but the portions are well worth it. The burger is the bets I've had. The pork sub is good, especially with the hots. And their brownies are wonderful. If you can eat outside, you'll have an additional reason to return. We will go back.

There are just some places that you’re always excited to go to. John Brown is one of those. Whether it’s picking up some primo meat for a meal, a sandwich for lunch, or a coffee to kick off your day, John Brown General and Butchery as well as John Brown Coffee is the place to go.

The cheese smash burgers they have are off the charts. I could easily eat multiple doubles they are insanely good. Also the fires are crispy and well seasoned which so many places forget. They have a cute section in back of store for eating your meal.

Stopped in as we were driving past Cockeysville Maryland on 83. Very nice out of the way Butchery and coffee shop. Very nice selection of steaks, pork, sausage, and chicken but be prepared to spend because it's not cheap. We'll come again for sure

This place has been on my “want to try” list for so long and I’m mad at myself for waiting so long! We shared a double cheeseburger with fries for lunch. It was perfect - the burger was juicy, the sauce was flavorful, the pickles packed a nice spice, the bun was fluffy and the fries were excellent. We’re already planning our next trip here to try something else!

Flashy and nice looking, their service is incredibly wanting. Some considerable charging like special slicing fee which i thought butchers will simply do. And unhelpful suggestions. Service has a long way to go.

A really nice place in an antique stone building. John Brown features a group of small antique buildings apparently part of a 3 building general store from the 1800s. A trio of 5 star craft artisanal businesses across the street from a tiny farmers market. Expresso next door on site. Really nice flower arrangements and gift knickknacks in the other building on site at Hedgerow. Some of the nicest and most creative floral arrangements I've ever seen there. John Brown Butchery features a nice variety of organic superlative options for the discerning carnivore. On site is quite a variety of meats headlined by small batch dry rubbed aged ribeyes...the cafe/grille includes Eggplant PoBoy for your herbivore compadre. Apparently they also make artisanal brick oven pizza and holiday turkeys--the turkeys must be ordered well in advance. The aging area has floor to ceiling windows, so you can see the gastronomic magic happening. Ribeye options include bourbon and herb, wine, coffee, coffee with bourbon? (there were 2 coffee options). Steaks sold on Fridays only. I got the garlic, raspberry and herb, and plain pork sausage and two types of salame--two of the varieties without pepper flakes--one was named Goose something or other (made of pork, not waterfowl...duck and goose salame is made elsewhere...I'm not a fan of it)and the one next to it...all tasty...all made on site in small batches. The aged/rubbed aged steaks sold only on Fridays. I haven't tried the cafe/grille (which features seating for maybe 15-20 tops and is first come first served) yet as the hours are limited. I can't imagine it's second rate as awesome as everything else is here.

I like this place a lot. I get some quality meats and decently priced produce. And a cheeseburger of course. They’re apart of my food shopping routine. I started off going to their location on Howard st. If you’re ever in Baltimore city go try their pizza!!!!

My review is for the lunch carry-out only. Their coffee and butcher I cannot comment on, but the butcher case looks amazing. Their carry-out lunch business, though, is terrible. Our office orders lunch together frequently and we do our best to patronize a variety of local establishments. We have gone to John Brown's several times, but I'm sure we won't go back. The food, when prepared correctly is okay but I have received my burger way undercooked, like raw. I've never ordered their cold cut, but the ones in the office that have complained of it being too greasy. Their fries are pretty incredible, but not enough to put up with their horrible service. The woman that typically answers the phone is rude. Not sure it is the same woman every time, but it sounds like it. They have a very obvious attitude that they do not care about our business. One time, we tried to order a cheeseburger, with a different cheese than what was listed on the menu. They had the cheese because it was being used on the special of the day. They outright refused to make it different than what was on the menu. Then today was the final straw. I called in at 10:45am to place a pick-up order for 12:45. I had a meeting to go into and this needed to be taken care of before. She refused to take an order ahead of time and said I would have to call back at 11:30am. I asked her to please take it ahead of time, as I had a meeting to go into only to be told no with the explanation that she may lose it. LOSE IT? Really?!! In spite of how annoyed I was at that, I let the host of the meeting know that I would have to excuse myself from our meeting to place the lunch order. So at 11:45 I went into my office and called again. When she heard it was for 12:45, she told me to call back at 12:30. I said I could not do that and besides it was a large order, they'd need more than 15 minutes to prepare it. She asked how large, I said 12 sandwiches. She then told me that they would only take an order up to 10 sandwiches, anything more had to be a catering order and they would need a 3 day advance notice. Last straw! The fact that we have done this at least 5 other times in the last year aside, the woman was unapologetic and rude. When I questioned the limit of 10, she said their fryers are small and that's all they could do. The fact that half our sandwiches were cold cuts, I guess, didn't make any difference. This place is rude and considering there are literally hundreds of places to eat in the Hunt Valley area, my recommendation is to go anywhere else. This place does not deserve your patronage. As I type this I am enjoying my cobb salad from Chic Fila and I am sure, had I received the lunch I was planning to order from JB, I would not be as satisfied.

The coffee was excellent! We came at around 10:40 am on a Saturday so they were basically out of pastries. If you want pastries, come in earlier!

Hands down the best cheeseburger on the East Coast. Fresh, consistent, and damn delicious. 20 out of 10 recommend. The customer service is always on point. The butchery has fantastic, fresh cuts of meats. The grocery selection is unique and gives inspiration for meals . Check their website for hrs and DON'T miss out on trying this spot.

We enjoyed a tasty lunch and wonderful service today. The friendly staff answered our questions and provided us with a fantastic experience. The meat and all other products are high quality and competitively priced. We can’t wait to come back with more friends next time.

Such a fun, great butcher with exotic foodstuffs.

For a butcher, they are unwilling to allow you to place orders for cuts, only offering first come first served on Friday mornings. Who has time for that on a typical week? Not me, on a regular basis. Great shop otherwise.

Tried this spot after a friend told me about this spot. Drove 30 minutes to try the burgers out. These guys nailed it!!! Great customer service. Best burger I’ve ever had & the fries were perfectly salted. Burger lovers, give these folks a try!

First visit here. Everyone was helpful and pleasant. One of the butchers patiently answered my questions about certain cuts of meat, and they held my purchases while I had some other business in the area. I then had lunch there, the Italian cold cut sandwich. Excellent selection of meats and tart dressing, a real treat. I will need to return when I have more time to browse the eclectic selection of sauces, condiments, and other comestibles.

The cold cut sandwich is probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Sooooo good, I’ll miss it until I can get another one.

We love shopping here as often as we can. The difference of quality in the meats sold here compared with grocery store chains is really obvious. You won’t want grocery store meat after this!!! It’s incredible how much more I enjoy my meals when I cook with ingredients from JBGB. Megan helped us out this last time we were in and was such a delight to work with. She went out of her way even though she didn’t have to, and we appreciate that. Thank you all! We look forward to our next purchase!! :)

This place is fantastic! Best Italian cold cut around and extremely good Thrasher’s style fries. The staff are great and sitting outside to eat under a large tree is a great touch.

Brisket sandwich was incredible. Talk about a 🔥 lunch spot. All the employees were super nice and the quality of food is remarkable. Places to sit inside and out, the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Highly recommend you venture away from the grocery store meat section and come check this place out.
