Yesterday I came into the ER being super suicidal, I had just been released last week from the hospital for the same reason and I’m struggling really bad. They refused to let me stay there, and the doctor told me that I need to learn to be uncomfortable, and I need to learn to be comfortable with being suicidal. I cannot express how bad this is. Thanks Dr Hannah Paulding for giving me the worst care I’ve ever received

In July , 2022 my dad stayed over a week with an intestinal blockage, I would give them 5 stars for that stay, however this time around on the 7th floor we had one good nurse, all others didn’t want to be bothered much, I felt because my father was 90, not much was to be done on their part. The Doctor called, and gave input, but I didn’t feel I was getting the whole story. My poor dad had pneumonia, and flu, and wanted to walk, and the nurse told him to move his feet and get himself up!!! Oh wow some people in nursing may have the medical part down, but clearly not the empathy and kindness, I think we will head on back to GBMC.

The Mother Baby Unit at St Joseph’s is absolutely HORRIBLE! I recently delivered a baby there in October, and it was the worst experience I could have ever experienced. I came in for induction, and my nurse was Jessica Ryan. First off, I have no idea how she graduated from nursing school because she was so incompetent. A complete scatter brain, and couldn’t figure out how to do anything correctly. She blew my IV 3 times, another nurse had to come in and start it. She never explained anything that was going on for my induction and she was barely in the room the entire night at all. She never came in when I called on the bell. I couldn’t stand her. My day shift nurse was no better, her name was Lila, but I can’t remember her last name. She was just a little snotty brat and just as incompetent as Jessica Ryan. The Hospital in general is old and disgusting and the staff is the WORST! I would give it ZERO stars if possible. Beware. Do not go to this Hospital.

I am revising my review to provide a clearer picture of my experience at the ER of UM St. Joseph Medical. I was in a car accident on 4/19 @ around 430ish. I was experiencing intense pain in my left arm/shoulder so we went to the UM Urgent care @ Belvedere Square area. But apparently the facility does not accept any third billing and was directed to go to the ER. The registration process and the triage were superb! I was registered in a few minutes and was seen by the triage right away. So, by 6PM I was seated in the waiting area. In less than a hour, I had my X-rays….After 2-3 hours, a nurse was re-checking the vitals of everyone who have been in the waiting area for more than 2 hours and announced that the waiting time maybe up to 8 hours. When I heard this, I was already tempted to leave but I said to myself I am sure it wouldn’t be 8 hours. I have been to St Joseph ER 2x-3x in the last 11years and my wait time had not exceeded 3 hours. So, I decided to stay put…. 9 hours passed by and I was still clueless as to when will I be called. I have asked for updates from the registration and they said no bed has been assigned to me yet and I just have to wait. After 10 hours of waiting, I asked the triage for Tylenol. I was already frustrated at this time and very tired to say the least! At 5 am, April 20th, after 11 hours of waiting, I decided to leave the emergency room without seeing the doctor and not knowing what to do with my condition.

This was the best hospital I’ve ever known. When I received my colon cancer diagnosis as you could image, it was life shattering. My surgery did all his surgeries here. To be honest, I’d never really heard of this hospital nor had I ever been. From the time I walked in from receptionist, admittance, medical assistants nurses, doctors, staff, dietary, transportation, support staff, cleaning crew, everyone was outstanding! Excellent! They made this journey as good as it could be. The care and courtesy I received was top notch! This staff was just the best! I will not stop telling everyone how amazing everyone about my experience at St Joe! I could only imagine if I had to go through this journey somewhere else. I’m just so appreciative to everyone who cared for me while I was there. I’m grateful. My experience was March 2021. This is a late review, but I still had to post it here.

The hospital was a nice, modern building, very clean and well-kept. The staff, in general, were very friendly and helpful. I was waiting for my mother to finish a minor surgery at this facility and overall, my experience was okay. The wait time for her surgery seemed exorbitant. Everything took at least an hour longer than was expected. My worst experience by far at this hospital was the very poor customer service i received at the facility's cafeteria. The gentleman working the grill and serving the breakfast food was rude, visibly annoyed to be there helping people, and was very short with me in general. I didn't expect the food to be anything special, it is a hospital after all, and, alas, it wasn't anything special. However the poor service was the worst part about it. The lady who checked me out at the cash register was friendly and helpful. I just was not pleased with the cook's service or his poor attitude towards me and other customers there. This looks and feels like a decent hospital facility, but wait times are very long and not all of the staff is very friendly or helpful. Not a very satisfying experience for me...

ED is the worst!! They are very slow. Take their time. Check in a breeze great experience. After triage you are on your own. No communication no one tells you nothing. Poor patient care 😪 I expect better from a Baltimore country hospital. Wish me luck 3 hours and counting and still waiting.

We just had a baby Friday morning and left today. Wasn't sure what to expect our first was at Franklin Square and that was a good experience. The staff at st Joe's was above expectation. Being there 4 days we had a lot of different RNs ans techs in those 4 days all were friendly. Not a single complaint about any of them. Our son had a complication that required him to be in the NICU. They all again were kind and compassionate. I can't remember all the names but I remember several. Thank you Heather Jenna Molly Claire Julie Stephanie Kristin Amy Lindsay.

HORRIBLE!!!! THESE PEOPLE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT EDS!!!! Anyone who has Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome stay the heck away!! All I did was sit here and cry and writhe in pain for six hours before being sent home after being originally in the emergency room for a car accident. The staff was UNHELPFUL and the doctor was IGNORANT!!!

Does not strive to involve family (especially if it’s a spouse) in plan of care with poor communication (lack of communication = none). When family member goes to the ER seeking help yet under the patient’s certain medical circumstances, the other spouse (especially if it’s acquired from the patient’s mouth including home address) should have been notified and made aware of the patient’s current condition and recommendations so there is continuity of care in handoff. Instead they indirectly set you up for failure for repeat admissions for profit. And this is a UMMS acquisition? I expected better instead this is absolutely pathetic. The patient was stereotyped and quickly kicked out the door not getting a full picture of the patient’s background and demographics. Not recommended.

The triage nurse Maury has a terrible attitude. I feel as if she didn't provide any care. Highly disappointed in her and the health care received.

Dr. Keats in labor and delivery is incredibly rude and unprofessional. Decided he had the right to express his opinion about our newborn that was in no way related to her medical condition. Needs up learn to keep his mouth shut.

I delivered my baby girl here on 6/11 and I just have to say that Jordan, the RN on shift when I arrived and Alyssa the RN that was there during the delivery were absolutely amazing. They made the experience so much better for me with their calm and caring demeanor and their bedside manner was 10/10. Jordan, sorry for squeezing your hands so hard during my epidural and Alyssa thank you for giving me the motivation and support that I needed during delivery! Next, I had Amy in the mother baby unit and she was so knowledgeable and made sure to cover all the bases with me (and even double checked to make sure I was taking everything in since I was exhausted) and she took such great care of me and my girl. I was so nervous about delivery because I transferred up here late in my pregnancy but the team I had made it perfect and it really couldn’t have gone any better. Thank you ladies!!

ERs I know are packed around the US, going on hour 4 in the waiting room, they have completed every test, blood work, X-ray etc.. in hour one of being here. 3 hours later still waiting… the staff ( which I am sure are under staffed) are snippy when asked a question ( someone called our name and disappeared) they gave little help into let me see who it was. Multi billion dollar corporations should hire more doctors and nurses to have on staff

This hospital has gone way down hill. It used to be one of the best in Maryland. Now it's just another common hospital. I went there for a bad infection in my arm. It took them six hours in the ER to write me a script for antibiotics. I wasn't offered anything for the pain. I wasn't offered anything to eat. I wasn't offered even a cup of water. In fact, they didn't even put a dressing on my infected wound on my arm that was draining. They also refused to write me a script for cymbalta which I need to never miss a dose, and was actively withdrawing from. Lazy, unprofessional and non-caring. What a shame that this once great hospital has decayed like this. Just go to Hopkins. Don't even waste your time.

The overall experience has been okay during my mom's current stay; however, the weekend and holiday coverage is not acceptable. My mom was left for hours with no care. After expressing that she did not want a make tech.... she was left to wait for care by a female. She had developed a wound from the lack of care and the staff just continues to apologize; however, the lack of care continues. If my mom was not so medical unstable, I would take her home.

I believe before any profession there is humanity which they lack at the emergency unit in this hospital.OMG! The nursing staff they have at the emergency today are very mean and disrespectful , very cold people except MR STEVEN …Thank you so much MR Steven .GOD will reward your good work .If this is what nursing is all about, we still have a long way to go .pls avoid this emergency unit if you can .They will neglect you , I was there with my husband for like 9hrs , we were put in a room , No nurse showed up, everyone of them just avoided us like a plague .They don’t follow code of conduct of nursing, No empathy, No respect, No ethics .I wish I never went there .Thanks again MR STEVEN. Your good work will speak for you . How can I forget today’s treatment 12/30/2023.

I am a Kaiser patient and was sent here because of high blood pressure, and numbness on my left side I was put on the cardiac floor. Every treated wonderful, especially my day nurse Tyler. My only complaint was the night CMA , he was very very rude to me and very disrespectful. I have worked in the medical field for 30 years, and I never talked to my patients this way!! He told me that I knew nothing on how to hold my arm during a b/p and said that he was too busy to talk to me!!! Very bad light on St Joes!

My wife just gave birth to our second child at St. Joseph, and it was a fantastic experience. Drs Sohn, Hammer, and Brown in Labor and Delivery were fantastic, along with nurse Marilyn, nurse Kelly and baby nurse Michelle. My wife commented on how encouraging, positive and upbeat Dr. Brown and nurse Marilyn were during delivery and how good that made her feel. Dr. Parker, the anesthesiologist, was good also. In the post-partum unit nurses Morgan and Gwen were the absolute best! They were both incredibly kind, and went above and beyond to see to my wife's well being and comfort. Dr. Mike was incredibly kind as well, and his sense of humor was appreciated. I can't say thank you enough for a wonderful experience!

The midwives and nurses of the labor and delivery unit were the most competent and compassionate healthcare providers I’ve ever met. Thank you for everything you do, and in the distant future when we’re ready for baby #2, we look forward to seeing you again.

The care at this hospital has really gone downhill. My left foot was swelled and painful suddnely so I went. 3 hours later, after no labs or imaging, I asked what was happening. I was told I was being send to the urgent care department. 3 more hours later, still no labs or imaging, I asked again. I was rudely dismissed by the triage nurse. So I got completely upset. She finally called the back and a woman came to get me.so by then I was in tears. This woman lead me to the urgent care department, never offered me a wheel chair and I couldn't keep up with her. As I was trying and holding on to the walls, she turned and with her hands on her hips was waiting.. saying nothing. I said I can't believe you haven't offered a wheel chair. When we get to the room I sit in a recliner and she throws the leg up and bangs me in the foot. She told me she was going to get a pillow for my foot and never ever came back. So another hour later I get an x-ray. The Dr comes and tells me it's arthritis. Mind you the discharge papers say bone spurs. I will not be back nor anyone in my family again. Also I found out they put in my visit summary I refused additional tests,, but I was never offerdrd anything else. Lies to cover up in case there is more wrong with me. Horrible people

November 19, 2023 Outstanding Level of Care - Letter of Commendation Thomas B Smyth, M.D. I want to express my immense gratitude for the outstanding care I received at St. Joseph Medical Center. From the moment my partner and I walked through the doors, we were greeted with kindness and compassion, which immediately put me at ease during a difficult time. The culture at St. Joseph is truly remarkable, and I felt supported and cared for throughout my entire stay. The facilities at St. Joseph Medical Center were top-notch. The cleanliness and organization of the hospital created a welcoming environment, contributing to a sense of comfort during what could have been an overwhelming experience. I would like to single out the CSU team for their exceptional level of care. They were attentive, and compassionate, and went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and well-being. Their dedication to their patients is truly commendable. They also showed genuine empathy towards patients like myself. You could see how they cheered me on when I was beginning my recovery. Thank you for your unwavering support during this challenging time; it has made all the difference in my recovery journey. Additionally, I would like to personally thank Pat, who was assigned to me on my first night post-operation. Pat was an angel in disguise - always there when I needed assistance, offering words of encouragement, and making me feel safe during a challenging time. I would also like to thank my nurse in the Stepdown, Nancy. Nancy was awesome she gave me sound advice while under her care and was very supportive and happy for me when I was released. Lastly, I must mention Dr. Finney, who treated me with professionalism and kindness from the moment we met. Dr. Finney's expertise in his field is evident, but what sets him apart is his genuine care for his patients. He took the time to explain everything thoroughly, answer all of my questions, and ensured that I fully understood my treatment plan. I would also like to thank Dr. Finney's entire team Amy, Kate, and the entire staff were fantastic. Simply Dr. Finney and his team are a Class Act. Victor and I would like you to share our thanks with the CSU Team and Dr.FInney and his team. To everyone at St. Joseph Medical Center who played a role in my care - from the nurses and doctors to the support staff - thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering commitment to providing exceptional healthcare. I wholeheartedly recommend St. Joseph Medical Center as a place where they can find it all. Your dedication has made a lasting impact on me, and I am forever grateful for your service. CC: Thomas B. Smyth, M.D., President & Chief Executive Officer "What we do does not define who we are; What defines us is how well we rise after falling"

My brother was taken to this hospital our experience was quite disappointing. Despite the urgency of the situation, the staff did not attend to him in a timely manner. This lack of prompt care was concerning and added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. In addition, I found the attitude of the morning shift staff to be rude and disrespectful. It's disheartening to encounter such unprofessional behavior, especially in a healthcare setting where compassion and empathy are crucial. I hope that takes steps to address these issues to ensure that future patients and their families receive the care and respect they deserve. It's important to remain courteous and objective in your review, focusing on the specific aspects of your experience without making unfounded accusations. Your feedback can provide valuable insights for the hospital to improve their services.

I went to ER after my pcp told me to with a BP 180/100. When I got there BP was 206/103. After awhile after they took it again it was 185/96. I had to give a urine sample. They my BP again 215/99. The PA told me to go home because the hospital does not manage BP because her work is for acute patients. They told me that the hospital is for crisis. The Doctor, RNs and the P.A were in it too. Horrible personnel, no regard to patient privacy at all. They were condescending.

Absolutely fantastic experience from the nurses in the Labor & Delivery Unit, as well as the Post-Partum unit. All around, the nurses are nearly perfect in these departments. Calm, cool, compassionate and easy going. We could not have asked for a better experience. You're doing a great job, keep it up. If we have another child, I'll go nowhere else but St. Joes.

We always love St. Joe’s whenever we need medical care. My dad recently had an ablation in the cardiac center by Dr. Islam and he, along with us, were treated so well. His pre-op & post-op nurse, Destiny, was fantastic and so helped put our minds at ease for this stressful event. The anesthesia & OR staff were top notch and his care overnight was superb, too. We can’t thank the staff there enough, especially Destiny. My dad hated when she her shift was over, she was that good!

We has such exceptional service yesterday during my husbands outpatient surgery visit 4/4 in the surgery center. From beginnig to end things moved smoothly. The nurse Sharon who prepared my husband for surgery was very comforting and she made sure every question was answered and we both were included in the process. And my husband's recovery nurse David was awesome and very caring. He checked on my husband often made sure he was comfortable and his pain was manageable. He gave all his attention to my husband when he was with him, and even when I had other question he made sure he answered them. And I know he had at least 3 other patient's that had just came to the step down recovery area. He managed this well. When it was time to be discharged he explained everything throughly. He was so professional and made sure my husband and I bother we comfortable. Thank you both for such a great experience!

This is just for the ER department. Arrived at 5:30, they completed all my test. The results have been in for over 2 hrs. Just waiting for the doctor to speak with us. It is 10:30! 5 hrs later and we are still here. No answers!! We will be leaving here shortly. With or without seeing the doctor. All the people at registration and triage center were very nice. Just way to long to wait.

The best hospital i can think of . Unfortunately I've had to be in the ER's all over baltimore . My first choice ever would be saint Joseph. Their staff were always very kind , I also volunteered there for the mother and baby dept . Must say these nurses are the best 👌 and they really care about you , your baby , and your whole family. Was working with them and so happy I did that part 😄

Incredibly professional staff. Two days ago, my wife had complications due to a wisdom tooth extraction that prevented her from eating, drinking, or talking. Because my wife was pregnant, no oral surgeon was willing to help. We were desperate. I do not remember the name of the PA who assisted my wife two days ago, but he showed a bedside manner, care, compassion and competence that no one else showed us. By providing a saline IV and antibiotics, he put my wife on the road to recovery and might have saved our unborn child's life. I wish I remembered his name so I could thank him personally, but thanks to him and St. Joseph's hospital my wife recovered in two days. I am eternally grateful for them for being willing and able to treat my wife.

Spent a few days in UM St. Joseph Hospital. The place was clean and well maintained. The doctors, nurses, and support staff were friendly and efficient. The parking wasn't free, but it was reasonably priced. I was in a cardiac unit, but the diet was not heart healthy. It did taste good.
