It’s really nice to a “ local “ just down the road and for Ashgrovians the Junk bar is exactly that! It been here since about 2010 and I have enjoyed many visits! It’s somewhat quirky with 1970 s photography wallpaper of wild Canadian wilderness! It is amazing how many people that can comfortably fit in such a small place ! A good range of drinks is available although there’s no Kitchen staff are happy to fetch you a pizza from across the street My favourite drink is a cocktail called the junk cherry It is made with Cointreau Vodka Cambord and cream topped with a cherry ! It tasted like a Black Forest cake! Occasionally local band scans artist s perform in an adjoining performance space .it has room for 30 -40 It is easier to find now it has a bright sign on the awning, for many years there was no exterior advertisement advising it’s location!

Very cool cocktail lounge with local and international solo musicians and bands playing in an intimate space. Don't be fooled by the understated shop front. This place is the real deal. Some seviche, chicharones or patacones wouldn't go astray; that's probably expecting too much from an Anglo crowd. Viva la diferencia!

fantastic ambience, WONDERFUL cocktails (the log lady and the choc mint one are some of my favourite in Brisbane). They do have cool gigs there which I've not personally attended but have heard the musical performances drift out and they sounded delightful. Only criticism would be that they don't seem to open Sundays (which is when I'm often in the area with friends and would love to go), but it seems on their Google description that they are open Sunday? Not sure if this is either inaccurate or if they're changed opening hours recently, something to look out for though.

Awesome suburbs bar on the north side of Brisbane. Unbeatable atmosphere! A very cool place to sneak away to of an evening. The cocktails are too notch (but reasonably priced) and the bar snacks they have are classy, tasty affairs. You can also order Uber eats to the venue. An excellent date spot. Sometimes they will have musicians play in a small function room, which can be a lot of fun.

The place very different, interesting however has a very relaxing vibe. Rather crowded with limited seating when busy. The drinks were rather expensive. I was overcharged however they didn’t seem to care nor listen. Maybe they will next time!

Great place to try a variety of Asian entrees and street food. Shame they are no longer at South Bank but I will happily support their business in Ashgrove :)

Cute little whiskey bar. Live music on Thursday's. Must visit place for 2-4 people. It's small so not too much space

A funky, cool bar hidden away in the heart of Ashgrove. You really wouldn't know it was there unless someone pointed it out. Great atmosohere, awesome decor and friendly staff. Love this bar. If you haven't been there, you are missing out…

An excellent place...on a busy night it can get very cozy, especially if you're there to see a band in the gig-space. Staff are always friendly, vibe is laid-back, music spins from a phono...before you head into the city or wherever, make sure you check out this local business.

Love the atmosphere here, the cocktails are delicious and the vinyl records are far better than the generic tunes being played everywhere else. Having the music at a reasonable volume so you can chat with your friends is a great touch.

awesome little bar in ashgrove. great cocktails and good spot for live music. only criticism would be that the serving size on the large nibbly plate was a little disappointing. otherwise really cool place

  • 3/5 James H. 1 year ago on Google
This place has gone down hill in recent years. The quality of the cocktails is still good but the service is average at best. The lack of table service means the bar gets over crowded with the friendly bar staff having to stop what they’re doing to serve/greet customers. Food options are also limited to ordering pizzas from Pizza Hut that may or may not get to you in under 1 hr and 45 mins (or BYO).

Omg what a smashing space this is! Delightfully intimate, it reminds me of gigs at Woodford Folk Festival.. loved seeing Monique Clare and Sam Buckingham tonight! Both brilliant in their own rights. Will definitely go again..

If you are in a band in Brisbane, then The Junk Bar is a must-play-venue! We can’t wait to play there again! Here’s a review of the last time we played at The Junk Bar that we never got around to posting. We can’t wait to come back and gig again! The Day After, Your Ultimate Small Stage Powerhouse! As the lights dimmed and the anticipation in the room grew, the unmistakable energy of Aussie rock band The Day After was palpable. With a reputation for their thunderous sound and unparalleled live performances, this band has become a must-see for fans seeking an intimate and unforgettable experience. From the moment the first chord struck, The Day After proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. Their unique blend of gritty rock and engaging melodies filled the small venue of The Junk Bar in Brisbane with an intensity that could rival any arena show. The band's explosive sound and captivating presence seemed to defy the constraints of the stage, leaving the audience in awe of their larger-than-life performance. Lead singer Ben's raw and powerful vocals reverberated through the crowd, showcasing his impressive range and emotive delivery. Meanwhile, guitarist JD skillfully navigated intricate riffs and solos, his fingers seemingly flying across the fretboard. The rhythm section, anchored by bassist Rob and drummer Crew, provided a rock-solid foundation that allowed the band to fully unleash their sonic potential. The Day After's setlist was a thrilling rollercoaster ride through their discography, including fan favorites and deep cuts that showcased their versatility as musicians. Each song transitioned seamlessly into the next, creating a cohesive and engaging performance. The band also paid homage to their Aussie and Kiwi roots with some heart-pounding covers of classic Aussie and Kiwi rock anthems, which had the audience singing along at the top of their lungs. In addition to their musical prowess, The Day After's chemistry and camaraderie were truly inspiring. The band members interacted with the audience throughout the show, sharing personal stories and joking with fans between songs. This genuine connection only added to the atmosphere of authenticity and passion that defined the evening. By the time the final notes of the encore rang out, it was clear that The Day After had left an indelible mark on everyone in attendance. Their ability to transform a small stage into a powerhouse of sound and emotion is a testament to their talent and dedication to their craft. As the crowd filed out of the venue, still buzzing from the euphoric experience, it was evident that The Day After is not just a band to watch – they are a band to be felt, heard, and remembered.

This is a funky bar with very limited space. We waited over an hour for 3 drinks at one point, after reminding the staff we were still waiting on them. Unfortunately the bar is way too small for the amount of people it can occupy and there seems to be a lack of structure and customer service.

Always a good time at the Junk bar. Maybe one of the last institutions that supports local musicians. If you've ever wanted to get up on stage, Wedneday night is open Mic night, Rock on!

Great little place. Decor reminded me of Alaska log cabins. A downer was they locked the woolies car park with my Kia in it . Had to find a lift home , then come back next morning to retrieve it .The car park is locked up at 9pm.

A really intimate (and airconditioned) venue. Saw a national musician perform, would also be great for a date. Drinks served only here, so best eat dinner beforehand.

Brisbane’s best intimate bar/live music setting. If you want to see your favourite music in a funky log cabin setting the size of your lounge room (I do!) then this is your place. Great acoustics, and brilliant selection of beers and award winning cocktails. Owner and staff are fantastic as well. Great vibe.

Took some of my staff here for some Christmas 🎄 🎅🏼 🍹 🥤 drinks last night. Great Service. All the waiters were very very nice. I requested a phone charger, and once the manager saw that they didn’t have the correct charger for my phone they went and bought one! The bar wasn’t as “junky” as I expected and was actually really nice and intimate. I will definitely go again.

Hip. Funky. Cosy. Cool little bar. Not much of an exterior. You'll walk straight past. But the interior, wow. Kind of like a jungle, and Hunter trophy house. Maybe Not suitable for some animal lovers. 😂 I ordered the special cocktail called "the churros". It was great, I mean who wouldn't like donuts, liqueur and chocolate mixed together?

Very unique place, especially for where it’s located. Great bar if you love to indulge in some strong yet tasty cocktails and watch some indie musicians. Seating and lighting could be better but the customer service and atmosphere pretty much make up for that.
