We had a good night at The Brisbane Jazz Club at a Music for Tango night. My last visit was 16 months ago, before covid-19 restrictions and it was summer then and we nearly froze with the air conditioning! Last night it was more pleasant, although I was well rugged up. The staff were very welcoming and it's a comfortable enough venue with some glass windows looking over the river. The viewing to the main 'stage' area, although it's not a stage, can be a little restricted but there's a TV screen to help out. With covid regulations the tables are well-spaced and cleaned between guests. The staff are constantly topping up water glasses and do a great job of the service. I found them all very polite and prompt without any arrogance - which was very refreshing ! We ordered entrees and main courses from the menu and the meals were lovely fresh and well presented. Entrees for $15 to $16 and main courses $25 to $28. See photos. There are good bathroom and toilet facilities that are very clean. There's a small car park that belongs to the Club for visitors, otherwise it's street parking a short distance away around the area. A unique night out with a friendly vibe.

If a night at the club was a meal it would rate three Michelin stars. The appetiser is the journey there, ferry from Howard Street wharves , under the iconic Story Bridge, the lights and atmosphere. The main is the club and venue- great vibe and ambience and welcoming friendly staff, the location breathe taking. Unique. The artists and music are the icing on the cake. Withs few drinks and nibbles…an unforgettable night out.

This American who digs jazz approves of Brisbane Jazz Club. This quaint, intimate riverfront institution in Kangaroo Point has friendly volunteers/members & staff. Good food is provided by Story Bridge Hotel Catering. BJC offers a broad wine, beer & liquor selection. Combine that with great jazz, big band, crooners, & Broadway standards and you have a fun night out when in Brisbane! Can't beat the views either!

I attended one of the two nights James Morrison was performing at the Brisbane Jazz Club. James and his band were great. Sadly the performance of the staff at the club was much less stellar. I attended on my own and knew that I was on a table with four others. I selected the table on the basis of its view of the stage (albeit from the side). When I arrive there was some confusion in the volunteer staff but it appeared I had been moved to another table with five other people leaving my original table with four. I pointed out that my ticket was for the original table and I sat down there and waited for the show to start. When the four other guests arrived it was clear they were regulars and I could only infer that I had been moved to keep them happy. I was approached two times by a senior volunteer requesting I move now to an even less desirable seat at the back of the venue. On the second occasion I was approached I was told that the guests on my original table were very good to have me at “their” table completely ignoring the fact I was simply sitting at the table seat I had purchased. The price of my ticket ($180) was presumably the same as the others on my table and yet I was treated as a second class citizen. I doubt I will attend the club again. I suggest the management of the club consider this complaint seriously and reflect on their customer service.

Hubby and I went to the Brisbane Jazz Club at Kangaroo Point, Brisbane recently. It was a wonderful and intimate experience. The premises is quaint in nature. Unfortunately, they had some catering issues being let down by the usual caterers being away, hence loss of a star, but otherwise the atmosphere was fantastic. I'm a Coeliac and managed to get a gluten free option from the 2 available so that was a relief. The view of the City and the Storybridge is spectacular as it's right on the water, and the weather was tremendous. The band, the Caxton Street Jazz Band, played great Jazz music all night and have been going for 44 years. Love the nostalgia! 😍 Once they go back to a regular menu it will be a must do for the Jazz enthusiast in Brisbane. Great night.

Lovely evening out. Unfortunately that not the caterer cancelled on them... To their credit they had 1 hour to get a good option and managed to pull together someone to do pizzas. Staff are nice. Did not realise it was a "Listening Club" which means no talking during the music. If you want to do that you need to go outside... However, the vibe doesn't really lend itself to you walking out during a performance.

A lovely place with a very nice vibe. Staff are all very friendly and do that little bit extra to make sure you have a great evening. The outside area next to the river has wonderful views of the city and is the perfect place to have a drink before the show. The food (outside catering) was nice albeit not outstanding - steak wasn't particularly well seasoned and the potato gratin was a bit plain. Nice duck spring rolls. Mel and Funky Miracle were a great show. Altogether a fantastic Friday night.

Some of the staff members need an attitude check. Absolutely no tact or courtesy. If you are going to employee these older people to run the venue, train them in some basic customer service. The way they speak to people is disgusting. Also charging punters over $20 to shove them outside in the heat to "watch" the performers on an unfocused tiny TV with terrible sound quality is pure greed. Update the outside of the venue with some proper shade, sound and visuals if you are going to charge and provide the performers with an actual green room instead of yelling at them if they dare make any noise outside. Performers should boycott this establishment until better standards are met.

Great place run by volunteers all money for tickets goes to the band which I love. They only serve 3 things on a Sunday cheese plate, wedges and cake of the day. I put in the note when purchasing the tickets my client is gluten intolerant. So this takes out wedges, mind you this is 30min before show starts and place wasn't even half full yet but already ran out of cheese plates. Other than this a awesome time out great music. Great raffle prizes and great bar service.

Amazing place and ambience. It’s a not for profit with a lot of volunteers which is impressive, all in the name of keeping live jazz music alive. We saw a big band tonight with Peter Vance. Impressive all round.

Funky club run by amazing volunteers. Bands /groups rotate throughout the year with tickets at affordable prices. Various caterers come and go too, with varying prices (bit pricey the night we went). Drinks prices are pretty good, on the cheaper side! Music has to shut down around 10pm due to heighbourhood noise restrictions but the club kicks on. Great location on the river. Limited on site parking but street parking nearby.

booked a table outside for two at 6:10 when doors opened at 6:30pm. Student tickets were cheap, although my partner forgot her ID but the lady at the front was understanding and we paid the difference up to the next ticket price. Upon arrival everyone was extremely wonderful and hospitable. We had the whole outside marqee area to ourselves which was impressive for a Saturday night. Blankets were offered to us as it was a bit chilly, they were much needed and appreciated. Service is great, they didn't forget about us even though we were the only ones outside. A table up the back inside freed up and the Manager asked if we wanted to move inside which ended up being a great move! Music was amazing and we loved the atmosphere. Food and drinks service was pleasant as well! We had a really fun night and highly recommend it for anyone looking for something relaxing and different to do on a date night. Similarly to another review, the TV broadcasting the jazz band did lag a bit. If you end up getting an outdoor be prepared to just enjoy the view, company, and listening to music rather than actually watching the band. I highly recommend checking it out it was an awesome experience!

Fantastic music, great friendly staff and breathtaking views of Brisbane to match. Technically a non profit venue The Brisbane Jazz Club solely focuses on the music, artists and enjoying what they have to offer. Staff, for the most part are volunteers who do a great job. Be sure to consider booking first! - if not you may be risking your view (it's a popular venue). Take note- this is a sitting venue with restaurant style tables. You won't be sharing unless you want to (or you didn't book ahead). It also means dancing isn't really a thing because it's about the music first and foremost. One small thing- it's paid entry

Look up their shows as this place show cases much local Jazz talent as regulars . We saw the Caxton Street Jazz Band, which are hard to beat . James Morrison is of course a regular touring act . The who s who of international Jazz also passes through as this is the premier Brisbane venue for Jazz . Prime location overlooking river through window behind the stage . Looks spectacular with all the city lights and the lit up paddle steamers passing by . Big deck over looking river . Good well stocked bar . Prime a la carte dinners were supplied promptly by The Story Bridge Hotel when we visited . Spectacular , exotic venue .

We saw Greg Lyons and the Hip Operation with Aaron West guest guitarist and they were exceptional, the venue itself is right on the water, so great views, and easy to get to. We also are there, beef Guinness pie, very good. It's a not for profit club so prices are reasonable.

Disappointing that this venue closes so early. Band finished at 10pm sharp and it was like: Bed time, lights out! I understand they have noise restrictions but maybe the venue could do more to soundproof. The upside was being made feel very welcome by fabulous staff & volunteers on arrival.

Go for the music not the food. Limited menu with only wedges and spring rolls available on the day we went. Tea and coffee ✅. There's a basic bar there, that is not bad. An older crowd with a few younger faces. The music was good though.

The Brisbane Jazz Club is a cool place. However, our experience was poor. The food was not good. There was a table of 17. The food came out fast but was not flavourful or fresh. It seemed like they already had the ingredients made and dished them up on the plate. The food is very overpriced. We sat outside, which was nice. Inside was really hot. People had hand-fans to cool them down. The volunteers and staff were super lovely though. Entry is around $27. I wouldn’t go back.

Great food plus a bar, live music... What's not to like and an added spectacular view from the deck outside.

  • 1/5 Kathy B. 7 months ago on Google
We were sent to the 'terrace' which was the cemented outside area, which was sloping downwards towards the river. Therefore the flimsy aluminium chairs were also sloping backwards which was incredibly uncomfortable and it was cold. Plastic tables, no ambience whatsoever. Couldn't hear or see the band except for a TV screen. The price was the same as the tables inside which is unacceptable. Then there's the food! Ridiculously priced especially considering the quality. Hardly any choice and the ingredients were inferior and very poorly cooked and prepared. I ordered the nachos which was basically inedible. The band was mediocre. Overall an unpleasant experience.

I love jazz. Googled jazz music near me and Brisbane Jazz Club popped up! Amazing! Me and my partner head on down there to check it out. We walk in and are “greeted” by a lady who made me feel like I was 3 inches tall. And I tried, I really tried to smile through it and be friendly but this lady wasn’t having any of it. So sorry we didn’t realise that it was a ticketed event but you could maybe have informed us of that fact without the condescending undertone of ‘why are you pieces of trash here’. Very much ruined my night so thanks for that. I love jazz but don’t know if I’d even try going back to buy a ticket given the condensing greeting we got…

I don't want to share details of our experiences at the Brisbane Jazz Club for fear of this delightful intimate venue being sold out. Suffice to write that if you enjoy local Jazz in all it's variety, in a venue beside the Brisbane River close to Brisbane's CBD, then search the Brisbane Jazz Club website for a performance you may enjoy and book a table. Then if you are local to Greater Brisbane, support this volunteer run music venue by becoming a member.

A friendly, vibrant and exciting location on Kangaroo point with beautiful views of the Brisbane River. As a venue it's very underrated but has great entertainment value with the live music, and the bar and restaurant serve up excellent drinks and food. From their website I hadn't realised it's a "listening" club and not the relaxed vibe they suggest. Definitely full of jazz enthusiasts. The location means it closes early. They have a limited range of craft beers and an oddly mixed COVID policy that means you order drinks from your table but you go to the kitchen to order food. I enjoyed myself, but it wasn't my expectation based upon their website.

A brilliant night out with live music in Brisbane. $30 for a ticket and it was completely worth it. Very nice staff who are mostly volunteers who care about the club and music. They did a raffle and sell jazz books and CDs. Lovely atmosphere, a real jazz club feel and on the Brisbane River at the tip of kangaroo point. There is usually a band on Thursday to Sunday, with (tasty and classy) food and drink available. Recommend booking ahead as it can get very busy.
