We were so disappointed with our stay. We had been looking forward to the quality and service for which Spicers in renowned, however the dirty roof top bar covered in bird droppings, and the thick layer of dust in the bathroom were just the start. On check in we were informed of a cocktail class and gin tasting activity on the roof top bar at 4 only to find it initially unstaffed and with no activities at all. The social hour drink and nibbles advertised in our room was also initially non-existent until we had to convince the staff it was advertised in their brochures left in the rooms. From the leaking basin and lose electrical power point and for the price the service and cleanliness was just not up to standard.

Stayed for one night only. Parking is very limited and uncovered. Pretty tricky to access if there are other cars there. I went to Brisbane for an event and to sleep. I often stay in hotels so I can relax for a day or two and catch up on sleep. The person who greeted me was lovely and the room is cute. BUT I could not get in easily upon my return in the evening. I was hungry but could not get in contact with room service. Nor any service! My airconditioning was too cold no matter what I did I could not warm the room. No one called me back. Luckily I had a hot water bottle in my car which I went down to get in my pyjamas!!! I was cold and hungry. Then the noise began around 0600!!! I barely slept! When I mentioned the noise on checkout I was told I had a quiet room!!! I will not stay again. Very disappointed. Next month I will choose another hotel.

The suites are located in a beautifully renovated old building and are so gorgeous and comfortable. The location is perfect for seeing a different side of Brisbane (we had an event on at the Powerhouse and it was just nearby) and breakfast at the restaurant was fabulous. A perfect stay.

Rooms were amazing and beautiful. The included breakfast day after was amazing. Check in was easy as well. Unfortunately they lose a few stars for charging us for the mini bar when we didn't use it (we brought our own champagne but used the glasses, then assumed we used their champagne and charged us). Didn't bother calling to check and just sent us the bill. When we contacted them they refused to answer for several hours and eventually made contact 48hrs later. Not the best when your on your honeymoon trying to enjoy a stress free time.

A little disappointed. Room although well appointed, had close up view of a brick wall, was located very close to entrance and reception, so was a little noisy. Rooftop bar was an anticlimax, view of rusty rooms and a corner of the Storey Bridge. Drink prices astronomical.

If looking for a very basic bed and breakfast at 5 star prices, this is the place. I paid $500+ for the room plus breakfast and didn’t even end up staying. I was after a relaxing, romantic night away and ended up just driving home instead. No service (at all!) rude staff, uncomfortable rooms (stayed in upgraded room).

After finding ourselves in an accommodation pickle with our two little dogs at peak holiday season, the manager Jake kindly moved things around to fit us in to what was a huge and luxurious pet friendly suite. Upon arrival, we were greeted with such warmth from the management team Jake and Lara, which continued with all staff throughout our stay. Our room had a welcome note to both humans and furry friends along with plush dog beds, bowls and dog treats. Our little doggos were welcome in the restaurant (courtyard & patio) and rooftop bar along with the room. During our short 3 night stay, we ate dinner at the restaurant twice along with breakfast. The food is second to none. Inventive and delicious, the head chef should be highly commended. I am truly shocked to read some of the negative reviews as I could not find one fault, from the luxurious room including one of the best stocked mini bars I’ve ever seen and the ginormous bath to the outstanding food and hospitality shown by every single staff member towards us and our dogs. I could not recommend Spicers at Balfour more and we will most certainly be back.

Not our first time staying at a Spicers and won't be our last. From the room upgrade, the amazing staff and the delicious dinner... can't recommend Spicers Balfour enough. Was perfect for what we needed - a quiet getaway with everything at our fingertips and no requirement to leave. Restaurant was just delicious. Already looking forward to returning. Some other reviews mention that the view from the rooms are lacking - but we used the room to sleep so it was irrelevant and what matters more is the bed (so comfy). FYI - If you would prefer a quieter room book the King room downstairs!

My partner and I visited here last night for dinner. What a hidden little gem! The food and wine was delicious. Great portions for the price. We recieved wonderful service from Murray, who was looking after our table. He was friendly and very helpful with any questions we had about the wines and menu. We will definitely be returning, maybe we'll try breakfast next time and see if it's just as good!

We stayed for one night. Very clean room with a super comfy bed. Smaller property to other Spicers properties so room felt smaller but still great. Lovely breakfast the next morning (I had kimchi chicken waffles - delish! - and great coffee). Love the 11am checkout so we didn't have to rush. Good service.

Shocking service at the restaurant! I would have given zero star for the service provided by one person in the restaurant, if possible. He was pushy and asked us to leave our table after less than an hour an a half and even before we were offered to see the dessert menu! Who does that?!?!?! From the start he was very unpleasant and pushy with the menu choices & wine selection which made us uncomfortable. He was so rushed to take our order that he missed my entree altogether. He then ejected us to the little sitting area as soon as we finished our main and suggested we order dessert there. Seriously, my friends hadn’t even finished their wine! In the end, we were never given the dessert menu; instead, we were given the bill! We left straight away and noticed on the way out that our table was separated into 3 tables & were empty. This is something I have never experienced before! The food was good & service at the rooftop bar was excellent but they were overshadowed by the poor behaviour of this individual. I could not recommend this place and wonder if we would have received this kind of treatment had we been white? 🤔

We had the pleasure of stopping at the Spicers Balfour Hotel after a 'cocktail cruise', and was beyond surprised at this hidden gem that I never knew existed. The decor and interior was elegant and sophisticated, the view from the bar was stunning with greenery and good shots of the Story Bridge. And Sebastian the bartender was a legend, didn't make a bad drink all night! Not only will I be back in the future, i'll be bringing my friends when they come up to Brisbane and want to explore. Cheers!

Lovely re-purposed Queenslander residence. Clean, comfortable, convenient. Excellent staff team. Good all-day dining. Interesting retreat with pleasant outdoor dining ambience including balcony, courtyard and rooftop. Touch of luxury.

Just ran the People and Culture Accelerator Program at Spicers Balfour and it was a big success. The food is outstanding, the Simla Room with its tree-lined view is a beautiful training venue and Bianca Bekhore, the conference coordinator was a stand-out - went out of her way to ensure we had a fab experience and was very responsive to our on-the-day needs. I will definitely be back!

Loved our night away in our lovely city. Loved the tasting dinner and been able to stay the night and then do a walk along the Brisbane River next day before breakfast. Great location, relaxing environment and very friendly and helpful staff. Great view from the rooftop cocktail bar too

Incredible service, we had a few night stay. Jack and the whole team were incredible, looking after us and our 5 month old. Will be coming back.

Celebrating a hens in this private room was very nice. The food was presented lovely & all tasted great. Gluten free options were supplied on separate plates for those who required it. A free drink on arrival & unlimited tea & coffee. The staff were very friendly & nothing was to much for them. Only downside was the flies coming in the door which is opened to cool the room down. We ventured upstairs to the rooftop bar which has a great little view of the story Bridge. Drinks were slow to come & some didn't taste the best but they only had 1 staff member up there taking the orders, making & serving the drinks. When paying those prices you want your drink to be nice, some left thier drinks with only taking a few sips & others drank them, not enjoying them.

My husband and I celebrated my 50th birthday by staying in one of the Balfour’s Art Deco suites. Jack the manager person showed us to the suite and even explained a little about the history of the building which was really interesting! The staff were amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and and attentive to all of our needs. The suite had a blue tooth speaker which was great and a lovely deep bath that even my hubby fit in! The suite was impeccably clean and the bed truly comfortable! I definitely recommend staying here for a romantic get away. The cocktails in the rooftop bar were amazing as was the view of the Story Bridge!

This is a unique boutique hotel with thoughtful staff, delicious food and great cocktails. Juliana and Jack know how to make a room safe for migraine sufferers, Lucy makes great cocktails with interesting twists,Hun at reception makes every stay smooth and seamless. Young enthusiastic waitresses like Sophie make the meal memorable and the kitchen produces lovely food. Thanks the recommendation about Akkeshi Whiskey difficult to source but fabulous Lucy.

Exceptional service by friendly and professional staff. Spacious well appointed room with classical charm. Excellent restaurant serving amazing food. The rooftop bar was an added bonus. Well worth a stay and will be recommending to everyone coming to Brisbane.

As usual this hidden gem in the middle of Brisbane ticks all the boxes. The staff are extremely professional and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are 5 star and I highly recommend the breakfast at their Restaurant.

We stayed here to have a night out in the city and were so pleased with the presentation and outstanding friendliness from ALL of the staff. The hotel itself is a small, boutique style converted Queenslander and reminded me of a vintage NYC loft. I loved it! Comfort-wise, it was great - the bed was comfortable and the room was big enough for two. The bathroom/shower was decent but we did have a few bulbs out in there which made it darker than it already was. The old-time jazz era feel was kept throughout the whole hotel and really added to a feeling of stepping back in time to a very classic but comfortable experience.

Service was poor, had to get up and ask waitress to fill water glasses twice; had to ask for first cup of coffee after 1 hr ; had to get up and find waitress for second cup. Food on high tea was given No explanation , we had no idea what we were eating. She was pleasant but absolutely hopeless. Food was ok but not worth the price. Would not recommend, there are plenty of other high tea locations in Brisbane that are much cheaper with better service.

We made a last minute reservation to stay here after some car issues meant we couldn’t move on with our plans until the following day. We were made to feel welcome right from start and all staff were very pleasant and helpful. Car parking very limited so first come, first served. We didn’t eat dinner in the restaurant as it was fully booked so can’t comment on that but we did have breakfast the following morning. I ordered poached eggs on toast with cherry tomatoes and bacon. Whilst it was tasty enough I think presentation could have been better considering where we were, some greenery, micro herbs etc would have just been enough to make it look more appealing, and not something from the local cafe. The room (we were on the ground floor) was small but comfortable. The bathroom lighting was lacking in my opinion and very dull. I couldn’t open the door onto the courtyard outside the room, not sure if it was locked. There was loose leaf tea provided in the room with only 1 small tea pot so we couldn’t each have a different flavour of tea. I guess if we’d asked, another would have been provided. I liked that I could stream Netflix from my device to the TV in the room. All in all a pleasant stay and somewhere that I would recommend.

Was greeted at the door with such lovely smiling faces full of great knowledge and understanding of their space and menu. The whole experience was lovely, after eating spent some time on the rooftop bar and was treated to one of the best martinis I've ever had!!! The bartender was great to talk to and I can't wait to come back for more of her delicious cocktails!

It's worth paying a little extra and staying in a suite. Accommodation, staff, food and amenities are all 5⭐. The surrounding area will also keep you entertained and is very close. Highly recommend the big breakfast prior to checking out.

We loved our stay at Balfour. The restaurant rightly had rave reviews and rewards - big portions so beware! Brekkie was perfection each morning - with some surprises on the menu each day. The hotel itself is a stunning old home converted. Rooms are small but perfect. The location is amazing. New Farm is less than a 5 min walk to the hustle and bustle of Howard Street Wharf (restaurants/bars etc) but you can sleep like a baby as the hotel rooms are quiet as. Don't miss the roof-top bar, the high-tea if you can get it and best of all the staff are all amazing. Kenny is the best and that is really saying something. If you want to escape the rain and cold, Brisbane was warm, sunny and fab. Worth a visit.

Phenomenal experience from the first step into the property until I left. The facilities are amazing, the staff are just out of this world, the food is so good. Could not have asked for a better stay-cation. Also, the zero waste and net zero emissions policies are to be applauded. Thank you for a wonderful time away!

We had a brunch this morning for a group of 16 people. The food was amazing & the service absolutely first class! A sincere thank you to Liz & Kenny for the attention & time they gave us and also to Julianna, the event organiser who I have dealt with for almost a year. We moved up into the air conditioned lounge with Julianna giving us a tour of the hotel…and we ordered bar food & drinks staying until around 3pm. Just a wonderful experience made even more amazing by the service & attention given to us by the staff. Loved the food too! Will definitely be back! PS; thank you too to Elyse who was also great to deal with in the weeks leading up to our function. A lovely venue & amazing food & service.

Lovely boutique hotel, only five min drive from James Street and all the great restaurants in that area. Comfortable room and bed. Cosy rooftop bar. Nice breakfast on the balcony each morning- the prawn crumpets were to die for. Will definitely be back.

Both as accommodation and a restaurant this place has it all. You would be a hard marker to fault our experience. Watching the staff out of the corner of your eye you got the feeling morale was good and it showed through. Food was sensational. Wines great and all served by great people. Do yourself a favour.

Celebrated my uni graduation at this wonderful warm and welcoming restaurant. Favourite dish was the shark scallop and beef cheeks and loved the wildberry and gin cocktails. Highly recommend this place for a special occasion, could not fault the service or food. 5 star atmosphere and great views on the rooftop.

My husband & I have just enjoyed the most wonderful stay at the Balfour Hotel, starting with a phone call from Maxine letting us know of an early check in availability and an upgrade to a delightful Studio on arrival. We enjoyed a drink on the rooftop bar & a delicious dinner at the restaurant. Maxine and all the staff we interacted with during our stay are a credit to management. Thank you all for your wonderful service to your guests. We will most definitely be back again!
