👍👍 Llangattock Escarpment was once a huge quarry in the 18th and 19th centuries. Now reclaimed by nature it's an other worldly looking landscape. Llangattock Escarpment was once a huge quarry in the 18th and 19th centuries. Now reclaimed by nature it's an other worldly looking landscape. There's a few different walking routes you could use to get to the quarry, and you can also drive there and park at the free car park which is just a short distance away. I've also walked there from Brynmawr, which is less than 5km away. It's a great walk which takes you across Mynydd Llangatwg and you get great views of the Black Mountains once on top of the Escarpment. It's a very peaceful place and the views are just spectacular. When I first ever visited the Escarpment, it was in Spring and the colours I witnessed in the vast landscape were just phenomenal. It's a very special place indeed!

A wonderful place to walk with very striking views. The paths are mostly well labelled and if you follow the cairns, they will take you all the way up and across the top of the mountains. Plenty of places to sit down and have a picnic, whether you're with the kids or by yourself. Not forgetting the great climbing opportunities - the cliffs are the perfect place for high ropes, bouldering, and leading! Be careful with Google maps getting here though - there are some very tight roads that are not suitable for wide cars.

This is a popular hiking area. The historic tram roads traverse the mountain leading you around the mountain. Be sure to stay on known routes as there are bogs and sink holes on the mountain. This is a fantastic vantage point for photo opportunities. The Lonely Shepherd also known as Peaky Stone is a legendary story passed down through generations of a Shepherd who comes to life on Midsummer's Solstice to find his wife who did not return home one evening. The Shepherd was said to have wandered the mountain looking for his wife after her disappearance, it is thought she fell into the river Usk and drowned. The wife is represented by a strata rock near Crickhowell.

The views were spectacular. Was quiet when I went up there (Bank Holiday Monday midday). Walking boots are a must , dog friendly as long as they are good with live stock.

High above Crickhowell is Llangattock Escarpment, once quarried for the lime stone. It's a narrow streep road to get up to it with few passing places. Once at the top and on level road again, continue for about 500 meters to the car par on the right. Leave the car park the way you came and follow the path round to the caves. Enjoy the views as you walk. Truly beautiful.
