Do not stay at this hostel if it’s hot in London! Would not think it’s much better even if the weather was nicer. The only good thing about this place was the location and the price wasn’t even cheap enough to make it worth it. We booked a room with 6 beds with a private bathroom and it was super hot the moment we walked in (like no wind, super humid and just deadly heat). The hostel is also located next to the train tracks so you’ll hear the trains running by quite often. The bathrooms were kind of clean but very stuffy in all of them. The service was helpful which we appreciated. Not sure why the rating were so high on hostelworld

Its a good and lively hostel, central location and close to the London Eye. Rooms are really nice, clean and well-organized. Staff is really helpful and friendly.

Kinda dirty and very loud. It's not just the sound of travelling trains, but trains screeching to a stop. The lockers aren't safe, the floors of your shelf can be removed from the other lockers and your stuff can become accessible (but to be fair they warn you not to keep valuables in there...). You can't find staff to ask questions and the number you text isn't very helpful, they don't answer your questions exactly. For example, I was telling them the WiFi password they gave us didn't work and I had written it down in the message. They responded by just writing back the exact same password I just told them didn't work. As well, there's no outlets by the bed and the mattresses are very worn. The front door cannot open all the way and it's hard to get into and out with your things. Additionally, not all the bathrooms had soap. However, the place is very centrally located.

The hostel was pretty nice for the price. We had a private double room which offered some privacy, but you still had to share the bathroom with the other guests. The room had it's windows straight out over the tracks of Waterloo station, but the sound was manageable after closing the windows. The location is amazing with the Lower Marsh Street and all its restaurants and cafes. You can walk right towards the Thames and along it to catch all the attractions on the south bank or you can cross over Westminster bridge and walk towards Buckingham palace. Would definitely recommend, especially if you like to explore on foot.

Where to begin. This is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in, even after backpacking throughout 10 countries. This hostel is a glorified prison cell. There is no hot water, the tile in the shower is broken, you have to hold the handle the whole time you’re showering or else the water will turn off, it’s insanely loud because of the constant trains, there’s no easily accessible plugs/outlets to use, and the staff is less than accommodating. The hostel is filthy and not maintained whatsoever. There are similarly priced and much better hostels to stay at in the area that I would recommend instead.

If it weren't for the big problems, it really would be a great hostel. The location is absolutely fantastic, the train noises bother a lot of people at night but I loved them (they are crazy loud though with the windows open), the codes for the doors are great, and the staff is super friendly. On the down side, our shower did not have working hot water. The shower on the floor below us was out of order. The shower on the floor below that was out of order, and the one next to it was constantly in use because none others could be used. The heat in our shower room didn't even work so it's not like you could offset the frigid water. Showering was a miserable experience to say the least. Bring an extension cord if you can too, because the outlets are an absolute nightmare. There was also no soap or hand sanitizer in the toilet room, which is fine if the shower room with the sink is open, but it rarely is. So gross. Over all, as it is right now, another hostel may serve you better until all that is fixed.

I loved the place, it was really comfortable, clean, safe and very good located! It’s perfect to visit London and staying in budget. Plus it has everything you need to have a good stay. Supermarket is just front and getting to the Waterloo station is just a in walk. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Downsides: the bathrooms and showers have no heating and is really cold in winter. The train passes next to the the building so it is kind of noisy, but nothing that you cannot sleep on. I recommend it and I would comeback!

Live music nights are excellent. We saw Roger Blackman, who plays a fine set of rock and blues covers, and his own material. Great bar and nice vibe

Excellent location, next to the Waterloo station and a walk away from the biggedst sights in London. We stayed in the biggest dorm with 28 beds and it was not pleasant. You can hear the trains very loudly from early morning until late. Also can hear the bar downstairs since it’s fully stacked each night. There was not enough lockers for everyone in the room ang half of the locker doors were broken or didn’t have a door at all. Showers were okay, toilets kind of messy and very small. Two of each for 28 guest was also not the best. The bar was suppose to be the lounge area for the hostel guests too, but there was no room. I bet for the same price you can find a much more enjoyable stay at London!

I had the pleasure of spending 4 wonderful days here. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the charming bar located downstairs. The selection of finest beers and expertly crafted cocktails was a delight for the senses. I had the opportunity to make new friends and engage in captivating conversations, creating lasting memories. Speaking of quality, the affordability of The Walrus Bar & Hostel is truly remarkable, especially considering its prime location. Situated near iconic landmarks such as the London Eye and Tower Bridge, I found myself within walking distance of some of the city's most famous attractions. This unbeatable location allowed me to easily explore London and make the most of my trip.

Really good location for the price, which includes a nice free breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff, you can get adaptors, ear plugs, towels, locks for the lockers and printing service all for free! Nothing too fancy but would definitely return!

Apologies for a very late review :D Me and my best friend went to celebrate New Years in London and oh my was this the best experience in a long time! Hostel was very clean and staff was very friendly and polite ❤️ Location couldn’t be better. Everything was close. There were some occasions where there was no toilet paper, but that was fixed quickly. Breakfast experience for hostel was amazing! It actually surprised me when I saw that breakfast was included in our stay. It was fulfilling enough to go explore the city. I read some previous reviews about noise from the trains, and that really didn’t bother us. The beds were comfortable enough to fall asleep and not hear any outside noise. In our room we had large adapter as well so that made charging our devices very easy. It was my very first trip to London and I hope to travel there again 😍

The hostel is at a very good location, in walking distance of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and other touristic venues. There is an underground station really near. The staff is so nice and sweet, Matthew (or was it Mathieu) was so welcoming to everyone! The staff is multilingual too! There is a kitchen with a fridge, a microwave and an oven so if you don't feel like going to a pub or something you can make yourself something. If you can't stand the noise though don't forget to bring some earplugs because there are two train lines right beside the hostel. Also much of the time the guests won't necessarly be cautious of the noise they make in the dormitories, especially the 22 beds one. There are 3 showers and a few bathrooms. The reception is at the bar, and although I was down with the flu part of my stay and couldn't really enjoy the bar, they have pretty awesome cocktails and drinks at a decent price. I'll definitly come back eventually. 5🌟

Had a lovely experience. It's been revamped since I last visited & the decor is fab and links lovely to the graffiti at the Leak St Tunnel. Cocktails very reasonably priced & well made. Staff were polite and attentive. A bit of a gem.

Best hostel in London in terms customer service and facilities. What I liked most is the fully equipped kitchen where backpackers are allowed to cook their meals. Online check-in was a breeze. The receptionist came all the way to the 3rd floor to drop me and even carried one of my bags. Thank you for this. Keep up with the good service.

It's really price for quality. I loved the fact that there was a spacious kitchen and we managed to cool lunch. If you are in the city on a task and you need the sleep this place is probably not the best idea. We had an exam the day after we checked in and the party downstair certainly did not help XDDD. But over all the place is really nice!!!

Interesting little hostel. Completely contactless, so hopefully you have WiFi or Data (can check in at 4 in person). Sinks in the room didn't work the best. Overall decent stay. One of the showers was clogged 😅, so that was interesting.

Lovely pub friendly and spacious. We had all sorts of drinks. And it's a BYOF so we've ordered some pizza from deliveroo. It's quite good because you can drink and eat fairly cheaply. The waitress made some macktails for those of us who wanted to continue drinking without getting drunk. The pub Decor is pleasant bu simple

Not super clean, no staff to ask questions, and very few outlets. The wifi was iffy and none of the bathrooms had soap. It’s also right next to waterloo, which is convenient, however very noisy.

Pretty disappointing. Too too loud as it is right to the train station. Lockers are pretty loud and there is not much space in the room as it’s overcrowded with beds. If you like hot shower, it’s not available in this establishment at least on the top floor. Location is great (apart from the noise of the trains) and it’s quite clean.. easy seamless check in. Worst hostel experience even so far.

I absolutely do not recommend this hostel. It’s true that the price is really attractive considering the location but believe me it’s not worth the conditions you’ll face. -No lock in the toilets -Suspicious white substance on the toilet floor -One bathroom for 10+ more people (men and women combined, yes, even if you booked a bed in a women only dormitory) -Mold in the bathroom I get it, you cannot expect perfection for this price but it could at least be decent. It’s really disappointing because this hostel could be a very nice place if it was a bit more clean. In fact, the staff is nice and helpful, the kitchen is really nice, the beds are comfy too.

The best place for a hostel! Yes, there is some noise because of the Waterloo Train Station, but you can still sleep very well. The bathrooms and toilets are very clean and private. The breakfast is simple but is good.

This now one of my favourite pubs in London to meet friends and family. Not only do they have great beers and a super friendly bar team but you can bring your own food which is a rarity anywhere yet alone central London! Not only that the Walrus sits on one of London's coolest yet under the radar streets and is 3 mins walk from Waterloo station. Do not judge by appearances....you've just found your new favourite pub in Waterloo!/. Highly recommended!

The Walrus Hostel offers a very basic and no-frills accommodation experience. I stayed at this hostel for three nights in September. Unfortunately, the bathrooms had issues with bugs, lockers were in disrepair, and the noise from passing trains was constant, except for a relatively quiet period from about 1:30 to 5 am. I’ve decided to give this hostel more than one star primarily because the staff was friendly and the location couldn’t be more convenient. However, overall, I regret my stay due to the hostel’s poor maintenance and would have preferred spending a bit more for better accommodations, even if they were further from central London.

Excellent location for a first timer in London. The tube is around the corner and you can get to any part of the city within 20 minutes. The rooms were small, and the beds a little uncomfortable yet everything was clean. If you are a light sleeper, your first night will be hell since the rooms face the train tracks. At around 2 AM, things will start to get a little bit quieter, and by your second night you won't even notice the train at all. The hostel does provide earplugs so that's a plus! You have the Thames within a 5 minute walk, and access to the best sunset views in the city!

Not bad!! But nothing special. Seems a little cruel to have just one fan in a 28 bed dorm in 35° heat but that’s all of London I guess. Overpriced breakfast and towels though - but lovely staff. Not enough room for things in any room that I saw (my mate was in a 6 person room in which there where only 5 lockers, and none of them are big enough for a backpackers bag anyway). Good enough

excellent location only a 5 min walk from big ben. staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. if you are a light sleeper maybe consider somewhere else as the trains are right next to the building but they give complementary ear plugs and I’ve lived next to the trains the last three years back home so i was used to it. CAN’T beat the location, their breakfast prices (£3), and street vendors just a step out the door after noon.

Pretty basic but great location for South Bank. They give you foam earplugs as it's right next to the train tracks which was good. Beds and bedding are basic but clean. Bring your own padlock to use the lockers. Also there are no lifts, just stairs.

Good clean hostel setup. Actually went about two years ago but loved the comfy vibe in the ground floor.

  • 4/5 Kritt N. 4 years ago on Google
As a pub, I have nothing negative to say. It's hip and bohemian which is perfect for travellers and locals to drop in for a drink. There's a decent selection of cocktails on offer as well craft beers on tap. It's a little on the small side which means you may struggle to find a table especially on busier nights e.g. Thursday and Friday.

Convenient location to stay , super close to the 'official' London Eye, Waterloo station and right on the corner of Lower Marsh, where you get to get a decent coffee at four corners across the street; in addition to the great food from food market . Showers maybe uncomfortable yet tolerable, female toilets are separate on the first floor. Discount for drinks , breakfast ok, kitchen is clean but not that impressive. Spacious room inside, clean floor. Stayed a couple of days when I first visited London.

I really enjoyed my stay, I was alone and I felt safe. It's close to the center, you get breakfast - basic but still good, you can lock your stuff if you need and there is good private shower which I really liked. I forgot to take my towel but they lend me one for free. It was bit noisy from trains but nothing too horrible and I still slept like a baby.

The manager so friendly! I recommend this hostel it's very typical and the location it's not very helpful but at least the hostel send you the location, it's okay if you're looking for something cheap. The check-in is 100% online so it's weird but great! Good place. Thanks guys

This hostel is extremely clean with good facilities. Its location is perfect, allowing for a short walk to the Thames with short tube stops to the best part of London. What really made the stay here spectacular was the kindness and top tier hospitality delivered by their manager. I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. If I had to use a hostel in London again (which is likely), this would be my first option.

(Translated by Google) Good hostel, attentive staff. The only problem with the hostel is that it is close to the waterloo station, and the trains pass very close to the windows, I believe that some 40 meters, noise goes on until 24 pm; in the cold you can close the window which reduces the noise of the train, but in the heat you have to sleep with the window open, then it is impossible to sleep because of the noise. There is the metro station Lamberth North (brown line) which is about 150 meters away which makes it much easier. You can walk to the main tourist spots like Big Ben and London aye. Apart from the noise of the trains, the hostel is good and has a great atmosphere and very nice staff. (Original) Hostel bom , staff atencioso. Tem a estação de metro Lamberth North ( linha marron) que fica a uns 150 metros que facilita muito . Da para ir a pé ate os principais ponto turístico como Big Ben e a London aye. I wish I had not stayed here for four nights. It was miserable for so many reasons. The trains next to the building are extremely loud and run all day and info the night. They stop from 1am-5am. On the weekend you can hear the thumping music from the bar downstairs unitl 1-2am. The whole place was dingy, and filthy compared to ANY other hostel I have stayed in. The place is in a very dodgy part of the city and although there was a code operated door to get in, strangers were trying to break in using another code. They no longer provide breakfast and only one staff on site ( who was very kind and helpful). there is a very small kitchen and absolutely no common area to sit and talk to other travelers. The bed wasn't bad but the decor and rugs were very worn and beer soaked. In the room and bathrooms there is no where to put your things. No hooks or shelves and you have to put stuff on the floor or hold it. It seems as though they have left this place to fall apart as a hostel and keep the bar going downstairs. I would not recommend this place no matter the price, as there are plenty of other nice hostels in London.

The accommodation has no care with your customer. I did not attend the reservation because I was with covid. As soon as I tested positive I notified the accommodation and asked for a refund. They didn't even answer me. As long as COVID exists, don't make a reservation!! I had to reschedule other things and had no problem. So make reservations through another hotel, we never know what might happen.

Good place to drink that isn't as packed as others in Waterloo. Friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks. They don't serve food but you can order from outside and eat at The Walrus.

It was really odd. They never sent me the access code you need for the entrance, which they say they’ll do by 2pm on the day of the stay. I had to leave my night early and get to them before the bar closed so that someone could give me the code. I messaged multiple times on the day to ask for it, and called twice. Just surreal. Would have been stranded if I hadn’t cut my night short.

Lovely atmosphere at this pug/hostel. I arrived when a live singer was performing and she was really good. Met some amazing people there. Would definitely go back.

Great hostel. The building gives off a classic British cozy vibe. The rooms and ameneties were tidy and clean. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great staff, clean rooms and bathroom. Lots of stairs for our room. The room was right next to Waterloo railroad tracks which run until midnight. Noise, noise and more noise. Central to all things London.

Nice Combo of Bar and Hostel. Easy check in, very friendly staff, daily cleaning. Some showers had no hot water and the nearby train action was quite loud, but still a good place for short stays.

Bathroom door has no lock, linens included does not include towels. Staff friendly though and free luggage storage. Train noise very loud, limited hot water in the shower. Worth the money which was pretty cheap

I' ve stayed here with a friend for two nights and we absolutely loved the place! The staff was awesome, we loved the breakfast deal and the night atmosphere. Beds were cozy and pretty warm, the whole place felt like a little home♡ Loved it! Will come back for sure.

Great value for money, I arrived to a freshly made bed right next door to a nice communal kitchen, just opposite to what appeared to be brand new showers. There’s noise from the trains and traffic but to say that this location is central would be an understatement, you simply can’t get better for the price. It has a cosy bar downstairs that is discounted for guests, and was showing the World Cup on a large screen too!

Nice and cozy place. Near the underground station. Excellent place to stay for travellers. Nice little bar downstairs. Surprisingly clean bathrooms! Didn't expect that. The only downside is it's very close to Waterloo railway station, so if you are staying on the 4th floor, you can't ignore the sound. Closing the window helps. They have online check in, so you can come in late night.

Popped in for a pint and stayed for four! Great pub with a good atmosphere and excellent beer. My mate and I had a great laugh and really enjoyed the music as my friend used to be a DJ and was really good at knowing every song played. Much to my annoyance. Very close to Waterloo, indeed the trains were close above our heads and in the words of Dan Ackeroyd in The Blues Brothers, the trains past so often that you wouldn't even notice!

The location was really good, but it was hard to find the entrance and we couldn't find any of the staff to help us. The beds and kitchen were decent, but there was only 1 toilet for everyone in the floor. The worst part was realizing that there wasn't any HOT WATER to take a shower. We were only there for two nights, so we just showered once with freezing water, but I can't imagine being there for longer and not being able to take a proper shower. Our experience was pretty bad overall, we won't come back.

Great location, tons of cool, interesting and nice places nearby ( also lots of restaurants ). The place is nice, the bar has a great atmosphere and was pretty much full during our whole stay. The staff was pretty nice to us, too! The rooms were surprisingly great too! We stayed at the room on the first floor ( it has about 20 beds ) and the beds were nice, the room clean, big lockers available. Only thing we thought could improve was that there were not enough electricity sockets, you had to leave your stuff next to other people's sockets which meant leaving your stuff charging without supervision and maybe next to a stranger. Showers were clean and nice, but the bathrooms were not. Overall we had a great time and thought the place is a great option for travelers, since you have a lot of opportunities to visit nice places and meet a lot of people!

Very nice hostel! Rooms are nice and cozy. The bed is good. Lockers are a good size. The bathrooms were very clean and spacious. Staff is very nice, both morning and night. Good location, bit of a walk to get to some main attractions and the tube. Totally recommend !

Overall a decent experience. There is a lot of noise because of the trains nearby, but if you prioritize a good location it is totally worth it. Beds are confortable, and rooms are acceptable but they only gave us one towel each (so, no hand towels) and no chairs to hang the wet towels on. We had two main issues: firstly, there is only one bathroom per floor so you usually have to wait some time for the bathroom and for showering as well. The second issue is that it is way too cold in the bedrooms! They shouldn't turn heat off, specially in days as cold as these. Cheap and decent breakfasts. Also a good environment in the downstairs bar if you want to have a drink.

Did not interact much with staff, but the ones we did were lovely to us. Absolutely great location, but you should pack some headphones or earplugs, if you are a light sleeper the trains are very loud. But super tolerable for the price of this hostel. Wouldn’t Recommend to solo travellers wanting to meet people, no organized events or shared common spaces to visit. Would definitely stay again if needed, rooms were clean and bathrooms were fine as well.

If you go to hostels you already know the bunk room situation, my complaint with the room was the fact that it's location is SO good that there is non stop very loud noises coming from above and below all night. I slept fine, but my brother said he was waking up to something at least once every 30ish min. If you're a light sleeper, maybe not for you. If you don't mind the noise, the things in walking distance and the bar on the ground level are fantastic.

I have come for a drink a few times, and I also run my poetry night here, and it is such a great venue with lovely staff who are super accommodating and welcoming! Shoutout to Josh, Will, Olivia and Laura for always being great. The location is fab and there's a great range of drinks. The atmosphere is cosy and comfortable!

Very nice service and staff, location was perfect for the price! I loved the pub! But it was very loud at night. Unfortunately the rooms were a little old and their was not a lot storage room! But still clear recommendation!

The location is perfect. A walk away from a train station, the London eye and numerous embassies. The booking and check-in process is smooth. The rooms are okay, it's a hostel. The service is warm. I've recommended three other friends to the spot so that says a lot. I'll be back.
