Right opposite Liverpool street station is the famous DD … I remembered seeing really old photos of the pub on a historic feed on Facebook. The pub builds on this expectation. It was a really great spot, we arrived just as it opened for lunch on a Sunday. Dining was on the 1st floor. The place was a lot busier when we left about 90 mins later. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff and I will say the food was excellent! The pub is part of the Young’s brewery and I would recommend the standard bitter, it was really good and accompanied the Sunday roast very well. Would certainly recommend this as a stop especially if a tourist! Lovely experience!

History or no history I am afraid this pub was not for me following my visit with friends early evening on the 18/12/21. Rude staff bad beer and a filthy toilet.Quite simply l couldn't wait to get out of there and continue drinking elsewhere. My advice to anyone reading my comments is to steer well clear of this pub as there are many other good, very good and even excellent pubs within a short walking distance in any direction you may choose to walk from this place.

Really good red wines, I can especially recommend the last one on the list. For the first time I’ve seen a clean (actually clean) Ladies room in a London pub- what a nice surprise! Tables are arranged in such a way that different customers are not disturbing one another. The customer service was faultless, waitresses taking empty glasses away discreetly, yet NOT trying to take it from you when you still drinking. Had fun there, thanks!

A lot of history in this pub and these are the public houses we need to protect and keep. Had a very nice meal with 14 of us upstairs. Really attentive staff, great food and thoroughly enjoyable time had. Thank you.

I’ve read about this place online and the history behind it and this led to me having expectations, I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t what I was expecting. It’s no different to most pubs/bars in London. The atmosphere was good, plenty of places to sit and the bar was well stocked. I would come back here again but this time without the expectations, maybe what I read may have been true once upon a time but it’s still a nice place to come for a drink.

Really lovely pub. It’s basically a fancy pub . Got to seat upstairs with the tables, really lovely vibe for a nice catch up and of course the fish & chips was amazing.

My beer was served warm and flat. Nice looking place but it's very disrespectful to the customer to serve such a terrible beer.

We had the Sunday roast and we really enjoyed it. I ordered the beef one and it was really tasty and the vegs well cooked. I think the Yorkshire pudding could be a bit better, but I forgot about that with the Bloody Mary. Definitely a good choice if you fancy a Sunday Roast near Liverpool Street.

Was in this lovely establishment last night, wow what an experience, I have visited many bars in the area as I work near Liverpool Street but the service and welcoming manor of the staff here was second to none. A special thanks to Dieter and Patricia who are a credit to any organization providing a fantastic human touch to my evening, till we meet again.

Wouldn't think you were in the middle of London great place to escape with great beer

Crowded as hell. Could barely find a place to stand, not to mention sitting. I couldn't hear my pal talking 20 cm from me cause of the noise. The beer was okay. Service was not too bad given the crowd. It was okay to visit once but probably not going to go back.

Great staff and a very pleasant ambiance, with a solid range of drinks available. The music was enjoyable and kept at a comfortable volume for conversing with friends.

It is a cosy authentic place in the busy neighboorhood. The food is really tasty and they have a large range of beer choices.

Great service - the whole staff is friendly even when the place is fully packed. Nice crowd, I felt comfortable there as a solo lady traveler.

Ordered a couple of roast meals, which were advertised as the best in the city, but sadly, the potatoes weren't cooked on either plate. We made a complaint and the food was cooked again, which took quite a while. We were given a free drink as an apology. When the food was returned, the potatoes were better, but still not as I would normally expect. 25% was taken off our final bill. The complaint was dealt with satisfactorily but the food wasn't great, I'm afraid to say. Looking at previous reviews, undercooked potatoes is a regular comment.

The Fish and Chip meal is very disappointing. The fish tasted like it had been fried for a while and they just microwaved it right before serving so it was not crispy at all. The chips tasted freshly fried so sadly, there is a huge difference between the crispiness of the two. Too sad about this

We had a fantastic meal and drinks upstairs on a busy Thursday night . The pub was very packed and we were told as we were seated that they are slightly understaffed but our server Dominica was so nice and worked amazingly under the pressure. Thanks for an enjoyable evening!

We were at the restaurant on Saturday evening, January 20, 2024. I booked a table two weeks in advance because 7 of us wanted to have dinner. Unfortunately, there was almost nothing that was on the menu. They said there were too many people down there and they had little capacity. It would have been good if they told me in advance, because several people could only eat fries.

My feelings about this place are definitely positive ones. The vibes here are immaculate, felt like from Peaky Blinders series! I steeped there accidentally, the name of the bar caught me up and I do not regret anything! In here you can find amazing craft beers which will be recommended and spoken by great bartender Dominika! I would highly recommend the lunch menu with all the options (also vegetarian ones). If you’re still wondering if you should try, stop! Come here and see on your own I’m telling you, it’s worth it

Crowded. A hotch potch of City and Shoreditch clientele. Fine for a couple of loud pints if you're passing while you head somewhere else, but there are dozens of better pub's and bars within 500m of this one. Hard to recommend.

An historically architectural, edge of the City gem. Aged, distressed Wood everywhere, including barrel & butchers block tables. Excellent, ancient character. A place of gathering & conversation. Only challenged by having 3 in 19 taps stocked on this visit (at least one was Brooklyn).

Nice pub but when you've been there eating and drinking from 3pm they come and tell you at 8pm your table has been reserved from 7.45pm and told you nothing since you've been there that's shocking customer service. Toilets leave a lot to be desired. No toilet roll and no working hand dryer or paper towels. Not the best place considering they sell food with unhygienic facilities for its guests. Cod & chips was banging though so credit where credit is due.

Located opposite Liverpool St Station, its a cosy old fashioned pub with lots of history. If you're a pub lover like me, this is a must. Good meeting place for a walk down to Brick Lane for a curry. Can get busy as it is located so near to a main line station.

Hands down the best pub fish and chips I have tried to date! While the service and overall atmosphere was amazing (as was the aesthetic), the only fault was the extreme noise that went through the bar to the dining room. However, you can’t blame the guests for enjoying they’re time there as much as we did!

We had a great time! We went on Sunday, and we were served by a Spanish guy, who was really nice and helpful. We'll definitely come back soon

Hamburger very average hard meat, bad quality bacon, soft bread, undercooked fries the cook should reconsider... Too bad because the staff is nice.

Yesterday I was with my wife and a friend, we were very well received and attended by Dieter. All the while being kind and considerate. I can say the whole team. We will be back more often for sure. For more Pubs with this type of service! Amazing!

The IPA is warm and flat, don’t order it! Place is nothing special at all, average at best! Way better choices around, avoid if you read this. If you’re already sitting there while reading this, order a Guinness, drink it and leave!

Love this spot... don't let the name fool you. Nice classic pub with good food. Can get a bit busy on the weekend, but all good.

We where really looking forward to have a Sunday roast, both a meat version and a vegetarian. So we where glad when we find it on the menu. So we ordered- but the waiter came back quickly and told us that there is no vegan Sunday roast left. So we asked if we could have the amendments from Sunday roast combined with a vegan dish. No that was not possible either…. Not to impressed by the service or that the chef wasn’t able to make any vegetarian version what so ever.

Love this place. We come here regularly. It is very unique and has a lot of history. A great place to bring tourists when they’re visiting!

There is a ok school American pub or equivalent. Lots of wood on display, there are beers of tap and reasonable selection to be honest. I would say it's more of a small and intimate building . They are across the Liverpool Street station

We had a great time here, watching the rugby. The seating and table set up was great and close to the screen. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly the whole time and the food and drinks were perfect! Will definitely be rebooking in the future!

Love the interior look of the place, don't know how old this particular establishment is, but the beams and brickwork look as though they have been lived in for a long time and I mean that in the best possible way. Fast and friendly service. Oh, and they have beer which is always nice. Thanks!

I visited last Friday with my boyfriend, the supervisor Dieter was amazing, so attentive and had great recommendations. Food was served quickly, and the drinks Dieter recommended were delicious. We will 100% be back to visit again soon.

Really nice place, I liked the atmosphere, Maybe a little bit too low light bit it's just my opinion. I ate pork for Sunday Roast and it tasted really nice. Recommended

This pub is an institution opposite Liverpool Street station entrance. Good choice of wines , beers and spirits. Upstairs is a great place to meet up with people but the trip down the stairs to the toilets needs care...

I went with my friends and we were expecting a dance floor or something similar to a club. But didn't get what we were expecting. The drinks were good and the service was ok. But since the place was started in 1745 I would recommend tourist to visit and read history about the place present on the walls inside.

This place is an absolute staple pub to go to if you find yourself around the Liverpool Street/ Bishopsgate area late at night. Service isn't always perfect but always worth a drink and open until quite late. Late night venues are nearby too. Overall, solid pub and worth a pint

  • 1/5 Thomas N. 1 year ago on Google
Normally love this pub and have fond memories of the place and it’s service for over 15 years. This time however, was not so good. I ordered a pint of neck oil and a bottle of strawberry and lime rekorderlig. When I got it to the table, I found that it was a zero alcohol version. That is not what I asked for so I went back to the bar to try and swap it with the barman. He told me that he had made me aware that it was zero alcohol, which was not the case or I would not have bothered paying the £6 something for what is essentially a fruit juice. The barman was steadfast and refused to swap the drink, meaning that I had to purchase another drink giving them money for the barman’s mistake. I would assume In This situation that the staff would be trained to make the experience better for the customer.

Came here because we heard it was a well-known pub while vacationing in London. We came late and only had an hour to eat which was fine. Service was decent and food was good. We got a shareable platter with scotch egg, sausage, and cheese/fruit . The only downside is that we were not able to eat everything within an hour so we asked for a takeout box and they said they didn’t have any, which was a bit disappointing as we wanted to save the food. I feel like all food establishments should have take out containers, this is the first I have seen that doesn’t

Good experience, friendly staff gets very busy on a Saturday evening. Seating is limited. Toilet cubicles feel really small but have interesting reads on the wall from people that visit and share their problems!
