One of the pubs I really wanted to visit whilst in London. I was only here for an hour or so and just had a couple of drinks but was well worth it! Loved looking up the history of the pub, especially with the noose outside which was very eerie but pretty cool to see! I was surprised how big the pub is inside especially when most pubs in London are quite small in comparison. I will definitely come here again next year and stay for a few more drinks and a meal!

Amazing historical pub with great view from the terrace. I was sitting for a while there with a nice pint enjoying the weather and view. Later decided have a dinner there and very unexpectedly had to deal with very rude member of staff. Incident was sorted by senior staff, food was good as always in Greene King but mood not the same. Never will back there again. Be aware of Noelle, she is very rude and doesn't care about customers at all.

What a great pub! It's rustic and cozy. It's a busy place, but based on its history, it's ot surprising. This pub was established in 1520 and rebuilt in the 1770s. It is the oldest riverside pub in London. This place was used in days of old to hang pirates. The noose remains on the beach. They have a great selection of beverages. The food is delicious. You can download an app to order from your table. There are great views of the river. It has many interesting things to photograph. Restrooms are located on the ground floor. They are on the tiny side, but it's an old pub. There is also a restroom for handicapped people. It has two floors as well as two beer gardens and a coupleof seats out in front. There are plaques all over the pub giving a bit of history. The staff are fantastic! They are super friendly and fun to talk to. Be sure to ask them if they've seen ghosts and they will happily tell you about their experiences.

Lovely historical Riverside pub with a very nice outdoor seating area for sunny days. Great for drinks food not the best our chicken wings were way too dry and overcooked same as the mini burgers very dry meat overcooked ... Without the food review is a 4 but with food would be max a 3 stars. Has a great view of the city and service is fast.

Wanted to go here for a while and it didn’t disappoint, tucked away it was a welcome retreat on a blustery wet Sunday evening. Lovely food although after being advised that we really needed to book, there was only us sat in the dining area for two hours! Others came up to sit here wanting to order door but were turned away being told this area is for people who have booked only. We were here from 5-7 so potentially they had lost a fair bit of custom. Saying that though we ordered our door at 5:05 and it didn’t arrive for an hour! Lovely historic pub, sadly no atmosphere, staff engagement was lacking and the chips were raw.

1st off the location is amazing. Sat by the river running through London you can see this place has charm but also a little something else to it that makes this place so unique. I arrived and waited a little bit because I made a reservation and was seated the place was busy and I could see why ^^ Once I was seated I had the traditional fish and chips which was very yummy and was happy I ordered that with a glass of coca cola. I enjoyed my food and the staff were very sweet and friendly even though it was busy they were happy ^^ I definitely recommend coming here to relax and eat and to just enjoy the atmosphere. I had a very lovely afternoon. It's just so charming 😍 ☺️

A great riverside pub experience. Much bigger than you think with outdoor area and an upstairs plus a terrace looking out to the Thames and Canary Wharf. When the tide is low, you can go down to the banks of the Thames and have a wonder around. Just don't be too to worried when you see the the noose! Apparently it's the oldest riverside pub this side of London. I am pleased that many of the old features of this pub has been preserved so it really does look like from another time. I would imagine this is what tourists would love and want - a true British pub experience. The food could be a bit more substantial though. I would skip the platter and go for an individual main course. Be also advised that the blue moon is not on tap as is advertised on the app, but is actually only a bottle. The only gripes I have, but other than that I would recommend visiting this historic pub, and I certainly will be back again.

The moral of the story here is always book on a Sunday because some walk ins can be disappointing and that’s what happens to us visiting this pub. The ladies clear up the tables well so that’s great. Ordering at the bar was terrible. I was lied to that the coffee machine wasn’t working. Only to walk back to the bar and find one of the staff using it. He said someone ordered from the app so they have to honour it?! Wow! Very poor customer experience. Oh and the Sunday roast (which the said is the only thing on the menu 🤥) was yuck! I took a picture of it. Looked like microwaved food. I couldn’t eat it! Maybe it’s a great place for drinks. I won’t be recommending this pub 👎🏾🤢🤮

This is a MUST VISIT pub. A flashback in time. Extremely friendly staff, good beer, EXCELLENT food & at a very good price. Upstairs & downstairs terrace makes for a wonderful experience with fantastic views across the River Thames. 10/10 Highly recommended.

We stumbled upon this little treasure a couple of months ago and I find myself back there almost every weekend. So much history, such an amazing view to top it off. The staff is always welcoming and we are always well taken care off by Sonny who is the kindest, sweetest soul you’ll come across. He definitely makes staying there for hours worthwhile . This place is one of my top tier happy places in London. Will be there soon again Hazel x

We visited early evening in mid-November 2023. This is a pub I really wanted to visit (we were over from Canada, although I had lived in London for years), and we were not disappointed. It's about as traditional a pub as you could want. It looks the part inside and out, and you half expect Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit to come around the corner at any time. They had their own branded beer, which was excellent, and an extensive menu that had my vegan wife fairly frothing at the mouth. We had already eaten that day, but took a couple of Light Bite options, her the Beetroot Tart and me the Fishcakes, and they were to die for; absolutely brilliant. I wish that we had come earlier and not eaten before because their menu looked great. I also regret not being able to get a river view because it was dark when we arrived. However, with the Christmas decorations up, sitting in the roadside bay window was a real treat. This pub is highly recommended, and the vegan options of the menu were hugely appreciated. Next time we're in London, it'll be our first stop. In the daylight!

Great place! Fish and chips were good, yet, there were not much chips, but big fish. I really like the pink cocktail. I expected something more pink, but it was very tasty and not strong. Also the view is awesome!

Went for a drink and a look around the "Oldest Pub on the River Thames." Great atmosphere, great view of the river! If only the walls could talk! Amazing bonus to those who catch the river at low tide, as the small alleyway alongside the Pub leads to a lovely little beach to pick up some treasures! Never expected to leave London with some beautiful Thames beach glass!! 😃❤️

This is a Great place to Enjoy a Relaxing pint with Food and, experience the Ambience and History of, one of London's Oldest pub's, situated in Wapping, overlooking the River Thames, with Spectacular views in either Direction, and you are right in the Heart of London's Historic Docklands, which made London the City it is Today.... This once Bustling Area, would have watched Ships coming from all over the world 🌎, with Cargos of Tea, Coffee, Spices and Sugar...to name a few.... this pub is a Great part of London's AmazingHistory.... if you look Closely at my last photo, you will see the old Hangman's Noose....

We loved this place and the food! We went there for Sunday brunch around 2:30 pm and stayed until dinner at 7:00 pm …. We really had a lovely day. Sat at table 18 next to the window watching the Thames river tide raising levels.

Popped by on a visit to London and what a great pub, lots of history and really cool old features. Good drinks choice and nice atmosphere. When we visited we also went down the alley way leading to the small beach where the famous noose is! Will be returning for sure soon

Really nice place with lots of history. I wish they have someone from time to time to share more about it. During this visit, around 7pm, I wasn't able to find any food for the children or anything lighter than fish and chips or a burger. That could be a normal thing that happens on every pub or the food was so good they ran out very quick or simply it was late. Atmosphere is really nice, nice and friendly staff, very helpful and polite. Nice place next to the Thames with really nice view to Canary Wharf and surroundings. Come and visit.

This was an interesting pub in what seemed to be a very residential area. It's a bit of a hike from the main part of the city. It has a lot of historical information about the area, and the little beach on the backside of the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and views of the city. But the food wasn't particularly special, nor was the service.

London’s oldest riverside inn. Pub from 1520 that was a meeting place for pirates, sailors and many famous people. Nice location and great views of the river and the city. I was seated at the top floor with view. I loved the place, confortable, tasty food and nice staff.

Here I am, posting pictures of the waves instead of food, but oh my word, their outside spaces are amazing. Especially the balcony. Grab a seat on the balcony if you can. This pub has a charming historic vibe with the curious explanations on the walls highlighting the tidbits of its history. It's really well designed, being at once pleasantly spacious and yet intimate. The staff are very friendly, too.

If these walls could talk, I'd have no idea what they'd say but I enjoyed it here, historic pub, with older floors and a pewter bar, nautical themed throughout, great terrace over looking the Thames. Local feel and often show sports. Worth a trip out the way to visit.

I have passed by this beautiful pub many times but never had the chance to enter until last Sunday with friend's family celebration. It is worth paying a visit, admiring the history of the pub and chill out drinking, looking out through the glass windows with uber boats, canoes passing. Though we enjoyed house ales and we were willing to wait for the food served at the table for about 45 minutes , the food on that Sunday was not what we expected. My hubby ordered Chicken Kiev and the dishes came out as totally black charcoal outlook. The Chicken Kiev's taste was totally not right that we should have told right away when it was placed on the table. My hubby got stomached after having that dish. Unfortunately, the photo of Kiev chicken was not taken to show how the chef could let it out of the kitchen and the waiter could not double check. The other dishes are so so. Overall, the drinks are recommended. I will come back again for its historic view, atmosphere, drinks and just some nibbles.

We came here on a bit of a tour on some of the oldest pubs in London. Great atmosphere inside and lots to see, so many interesting facts and details and great opportunity to sit outside upstairs if it’s a nice day. Good choice on tap too.

The oldest Riverside pub in London dated back to 1520 when it was known as The Pelican, and later, The Devils Tavern. In the 18th century, the pub changed its name for the last time to The Prospect of Whitby. The pub is now a place of interest on the Thames Walk East and attracts many to its cosy interior. The Pub offers a number of regular draught beers and a selection of craft beers along with spirits and non alcoholic drinks. I suggest you visit on a Sunday and enjoy your roast dinner on the terrace and enjoy the views along The Thames.

Horrendous Christmas dinner, manager and service! We have had many lovely christmas dinners here before but this year was utterly awful!!! Rustic dinner here, means can’t be bothered slopped on to plates! Stay away!!! Have to go up to the bar to order drinks as table service was 20mins+ wait for a drink, no one clearing glasses and dinning room so crammed you had to stand up out of your chair for other tables to pass by. Raw veg, Luke warm food- we left hungry. Sarah the manager was awful and unprofessional. She was rolling her eyes and shrugging off complaints like she had no oversight of the situation. She didn’t care and started to berate children who were nervously giggling in the discomfort at her rudeness. numerous complaints were being made and one table got up and left after the starters. Rather than the manager apologising and professionally admitting that the food and service was below standard, she was completely dismissive and to the astonishment of many she pretended to cry! And said that we must not get what rustic food is!!!! She very much somehow wanted to be seen as the victim of the situation. I must add not one person I witnessed who complained, raised their voice it was Sarah’s utter contempt for the situation that led to so many unhappy customers. The pub was hugely understaffed which is again poor management. Our Christmas lunch was ruined and at £70 a head we would have got better a Wetherspoons!!!

Amazing location and such a beautiful atmospheric old pub set on several floors overlooking the Thames with outside terraced seating. You must check out the nickel bar, rare sight and very old. Beer there was great and wine is very good. The waiter and staff extremely friendly and very well trained, serving big plates of tasty food. Definitely want to return again soon. It's a place that transports you. I've been there 4 times now when it's been both very busy and quiet. Always been great.

I had been looking forward to visiting this historic pub and it didn't dissapoint. We had good ales and great food. I really enjoyed my pie and my friend his fish and chips. When we got there, the tide was high, but later when we left we could go down to the river-bed and see the pub from there. An absolute must place to visit. We walked from Tower Bridge in 25 minutes...

Spectacular view and historical! Walking around without having anything to eat and drink is spectacular enough. We unfortunately could not have food as they didn't clearly state the kitchen is closing but loosely asking 'did you order food?' - that apparently meant last orders.

Great afternoon pint of Guinness here. A real gem of a find and will be back. Fantastic menu options available and very reasonable prices. Didn't eat as had a late breakfast but had a pint or two. On a quiet back street in Wapping, lovely staff, great outdoor areas and looking forward to returning and trying a traditional pie meal. A must do in London.

You might laugh, but from all the places in London, I find Prospect of Whitby the best. Staff is helpful and friendly. Food is great. Multiple taps with variety of beers and ciders. Most of all - great interior and exterior with a view on Thames.

Fantastic pub, terraces; overlooking the thames, great food, lots of history, great staff, especially Julia, felt like we had known her years after first meeting, looks small for the outside but like the TARDIS inside, went back there twice in one day.

A real gem of a pub! Sort of what they should all be like in terms on having character and charm! A great place to stop off on a thanes path jaunt. Decent vegan food offered and prices aren’t out of this world, staff seemed happy and attentive. Would like to see more than one vegan red wine on the menu but otherwise all good.

I went to this pub many years ago and had a brilliant time but this year what a letdown I spent over £400 for my family to have a Christmas meal. Not only was the service bad and the manager look at my picture and you decide I can't believe I spent so much money not only was the manager rude and dismissive as we spoke to other. Guess that was there for Christmas dinner but also were very disappointed but the manager kept telling me it was rustic it was good food it was value for money. Sorry no it wasn't, , I am so annoyed with the whole experience of prospect which I loved and been there. Many many times not only was it shorter staff glasses were left on the table approximately about 20 crackers were left on attended to 45 minute after it was due long spaces between meals. Disgusting
