Until very recently this was the Jerusalem Tavern. Historic building and lovely interior. Had a great chat with the owner, Hendrik - lovely guy, doing an amazing job with this beautiful, small pub. Some different beers for the area, including St Peter’s Brewery (who leased the pub previously) and Anspach & Hobday. Ales are very well kept. The wheat beer was excellent and refreshing on a humid day.

Super cool ancient pub, nice and hidden with a small mezzanine. For fans of buildings in a distressed state. Good chips too

A lovely cosy London pub with great beer (St Peters brewery) and an open fire. Dropped in for a couple of cheeky lunchtime beers, plum porter & Irish cream stout which were fantastic. Will definitely visit again soon.

🚇 Farringdon 🍺 £6.30 The Lager ❤️ One of most intimate pubs in London. . The Holy Tavern (formerly The Jerusalem Tavern) is just a short walk from Farringdon Station and is located In quiet side street at the southern end of Clerkenwell. . This Georgian building dates back to 1720 and has seen many uses over the years. The beautiful ground floor frontage dates back to 1810 but this pub actually started life as a pub in the mid 90’s. . This has to be one of the most intimate pubs in London with its snug and cosy seating arrangements. As mentioned earlier this pub was created in the mid 90’s and the thought and attention to detail to the design means you would think that your surroundings were hundreds of years old not twenty five. The floor is stripped wood and the walls are panelled and painted green, at the front of the pub there are tiles on the wall depicting the seasons of the year. The seating is a mixture of rustic pews, tables and chairs with some additional seating outside dotted around large old barrels. The bar area is compact and petite and has beer taps on and behind it. . The beer choice here was all new to me, the very helpful member of staff helped me navigate through the options and I ended up have a lager called - yes, you’ve guessed it “The Lager”. Its brewed by Anspach & Hobday who are based in Croydon, it was a really nice pint and little over six quid. This pub was previously run by Suffolk based St Peter’s Brewery who ended their twenty five year lease back in February, the brewery still supplies the pub and the beers are well celebrated. There is no food available at present. . I visited on a Friday afternoon, there was a tube strike on that day and this must have impacted the pub because it was fairly quiet. This is a popular haunt of locals, office workers and tourists alike, so choose a good time to visit. To enhance your experience here why not pop along for candlelit Tuesdays or the occasional visit from Morris Dancers. This pub isn’t open on weekends. . The @theholytavern has long been on the radar and it didn’t disappoint. The building is beautiful and very inviting, the layout of this pub makes for a engaging pub experience and the beer is great and diverse. A quality Clerkenwell boozer this, which definitely gets my blessing. . 📊 Information correct on visiting 19/08/22

Had been meaning to go to this place when it was called Jerusalem Tavern. Finally went and it has a new name. Fabulous ambience, old decor has been retained. We had the burger and fries which was surprisingly good - excellent in fact!

You can almost taste the history of the place (and I don't mean that the beer was off).. They have St Peters Beer on Tap which was great to see.. They also have a good range of other beers, Largers etc etc. We didn't try the food, but other people were saying that it was great.

There is nothing bad to say about this pub. An old place full of history with a very friendly staff and a live fireplace. Definitely, not the last time I stepped inside this pub.

TLDR: Must stop spot if you are around. This is based on a December 2022 Review. I have to start by saying that Hendrik is the most fantastic host. I only stopped by for a drink or two but had some time to spare and decided to have a meal. Unfortunately the chef had stepped out to get some ingredients so I wasn't able to try the Vegetarian options. Hendrik and I had a nice chat about the name/theme of the bar. All St. John Ambulance/Knight related stuff. I really hope I am able to go back again. I did have some interaction with another bartender as well and she was also a pleasure to deal with. On this visit, I just had a few drinks. They do take cash. Thank you. Five stars because of the friendly service and hospitality as well as the cool theme of the pub.

A unique and very special London pub experience. Fresh beer straight from the barrel in a historic building that makes you think that Pepys and Dickens might walk in any second. Decent pork pies, too!

What a charming place, thought I'd stumbled into an old village pub. All wood, craft ale and genial friendly locals. No music, machines or screens.

Not an old pub, but a new’ish one designed to look old. Charming place but a bit cold upon my visit (an open front door and no heating made sure of that). Good ales and good food. Not cheap and I was very surprised to see a 12.5% service charge added to my bill. I paid at the bar so I don’t know what service I paid for…

What a charming little pub. I've been wanting to visit for a number of years now after being told by a man at Manchester Beer Festival that they sold St Peter's plum porter and other ales on tap. I was not disappointed. Very friendly and chatty staff, great ale and atmosphere. I would recommend to anybody visiting London who enjoys their ale. Also, it's only a short walk from Farringdon station too which is another plus. I hope it isn't too long before I visit again.

What a delight! Found this place unexpectedly late Sunday evening and they made us a free sandwich after the kitchen was closed, gave us information about the area, made us feel welcome, laughed so hard, enjoyed great drinks, beautiful old pub, we talked fondly about the Queen. This building is absolutely gorgeous and dripping with history. The owner and manager were so welcoming. Five stars all the way, we will be back on purpose!

Amazing place, steeped in history, like stepping back in time. Delicious fresh tasting beer, and the steak frites was excellent, as was the fish and chips. A really lovely atmosphere, stemming from the warm welcome the team behind the bar give everyone. I absolutely loved it and will be back soon. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your hard work to make sure everyone has a great time. :)

Good pub one of my favourites. Mainly St Peters brewery but as I understand it, they no longer own it so other beers available. This is one of the oldest pubs in London and the building is well preserved. Nowhere else really like it.

Hands down my favourite pub in Clerkenwell. It's so central but tucked away and feels as though you're in a village in the country. If you're lucky you can nab one of the parlour areas by the bow windows. Good selection of beers and very friendly staff.

I've popped in a couple of times since the changeover. Character remains but on both occasions the cask ale selection was limited. I hope this improves. The second time resulted in an earlier move to The Sutton Arms.

Very quirky ancient pub. Above all the bar keep is hilarious. Bar keep has a brilliant dry sense of humour. So if you are a snowflake may want wear an extra sunscreen

We went there on the recommendation of a colleague. What can I say... Such a hidden gem! Very quirky layout, eclectic decoration and excellent selection of beers and ales. We had the charcuterie platter, chips and padron peppers - nothing complicated, but all perfectly executed. The thing that really stood out, though, was the friendly service. Everybody smiling and keen to have a chat - in a way that, sadly, you don't see in London anymore. We felt really welcome. This is my new work local!

I wasn't eating, but dropped in for a pint of IPA on way home. Loved the eclectic layout and querky history on display. It's a great busy, unique little pub, and the staff ensure no one is waiting long. Genuinely friendly atmosphere.

So wonderful! I've walked past many times but only visited last night for the first time. Lovely atmosphere from the place itself, but more, a real vibe from the staff and many of the customers. Bar staff helped create an engaging, genuine connection, sharing themselves - and would love to have learnt more about her (assuming pronouns) art, after seeing those doodles of her bar colleagues! Not sure - comments welcome- if it's a place to turn up by yourself & feel part of the community? - with a friend last night, but rarely in that part of town with other people

the pub has a great cosy/dark atmosphere, but it absolutely stunk of rancid cooking oil… I sat in there on a weeknight 7pm-10pm with friends and my clothes and hair smelt strongly of it afterwards. it was also freezing inside because the pub door was jammed open and couldn’t be shut, I sat there in my coat and scarf for the whole night (maybe that was an effort to ventilate the smell??). the staff were lovely, helpful and efficient but I don’t think I’d come back here mostly because of the unpleasant smell, sorry.

Honestly one of the best burgers I ever had. Did not expect that one at all.. it just happened. The beers are awsome. Liked the alternative rock playlist too - tired of this random teenager radio pop.

Brilliant little pub but it is extremely small though. I waited a little while for a table, to then be told it was reserved later on. This was not an issue, and the person who informed me of this (I assume the bar manager) was great with how he handled it and informed us. A nice selection of drinks, but unfortunately in the time I was there, I did not find anything to my liking of the 3 drinks I tried. Reserving tables is a bit questionable in a venue like this I think with how few tables there were, but overall a really great experience.

Visited on Candle Tuesday - very atmospheric. Wonderful staff, historic building and nice beer. All round congenial, and dare I say mindful. One of the best pubs in London.

St Peter's beer and really nice scampi. Interior feels like it's been untouched since Dickensian times; apart from the hazard marking tape designating Covid safe walking routes.

Not been there for years, shame on me. Feels convincingly old and great selection of East Anglian beers.

Came all the way from Bexleyheath for the famous St. Peters lager. When i arrived, writing under pub name on sign states: St. Peters. Walked in: the bar full of taps that state: "St Peters". Bartender politely requests my order. "A pint of St. Peters lager please" I reply. "Sorry, its off" came the reply. Walked out.

St. Peter’s only pub, and it’s a long way from Suffolk, but entirely worth a visit. A beautiful little piece of English history. Try the organic best.

  • 5/5 Trev N. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful and small with friendly staff and a range of beers and wine. It's hidden away in Farringdon but well worth seeking out. The pub is from the 1700's and has quite a few quirks, nooks and crannies. The joy of this pub is if you're looking for a decent conversation with friends. No blaring music and a good chilled atmosphere.
