I love this building!! This building is beautiful! I love the architecture, specially the ceilings. Love the shapes created of the doorways, corridors and staircases. Being a photographer I managed to capture some great, creative shots. I would happily go here all day and just take photos of the building inside and out.

Visited during the week and was pleasantly surprised, wasn't expecting such a relaxing experience. The permanent collection is free, but the temporary exhibition needs tickets. The permanent artworks are displayed in galleries and halls that I wasn't prepared for, because the building itself looks much smaller from the outside. That said, I had a great time and will definitely come back

Amazing collections of British art. The Turner’s Rooms would be enough to make a museum. At the time of my visit, Rothko murals are exhibited near Turner - the light is too low to fully appreciate them though - clearly it’s for conservation, but I wish another solution was possible. Also on at the time of my visit, the Procession by Hew Locke (Tate commission). Impressive and thoughtful.

Art museum with modern pieces sprinkled in amongst halls of more traditional art. While there are paid exhibits, the free experience was really quite extensive. Definitely worth visiting and spending an hour exploring.

Very nice and clean. Staff are okay I guess. The pieces are nice also. Very good place to take photos for content creators as long as they’re respectful of the art. Not a huge fan of British art museums but the rooms containing mythical creature artworks caught my attention and was a different touch than the traditional.

As at January 2022 Tate Britain is fully reopened but you must book tickets for your visit online before visiting. Masks must also be worn. Most of the shifting permanent collection is free to visit but there are usually 2 special exhibitions which have an admission fee. In Jan 2022 the outstanding exhibition was Hogarth in Europe - well worth catching. Almost all photos are from this exhibition.

An exhibition showing life between Caribbean islands. Creative art, portraits, home decorations and ornaments depicting life in the 50s, abstracts paintings. So much to see, you needed 3/4 hours to really enjoy it all. Worth seeing.

I love a good gallery. Tate Britain is one I have not visited for a very long time. The space is astonishing. The Procession by Hew Locke was breathtaking. A massive installation occupying the central hall drew you in. You wanted to drift along absorbing the different tableaus that made up the whole. It was beautiful and disturbing, celebratory and challenging. I loved that you could engage at the macro and micro. Everywhere you looked there was a moment. So striking. The other galleries were equally brilliant with a fantastic range of different pieces from across time and geography. Highly recommended. Food is also very good and we were made to feel really welcome by all the staff. A great place to visit.

If you can visit Tate Britain today then do so. Crowds are down and paradoxically in these covid times it probably is the best time to come. There is so much it to see here. The exhibition Life Between Islands is thought provoking, fascinating and brilliantly presented. Hogarth is another wonderful exhibition on at Tate Britain at the same time as Between Islands. It is interesting and well presented and a lot of other works from artists of the same era are included. Heather Phillipson engulfs Tate Britain’s grand central galleries with colour, sound and motion and that alone is worth a visit. The Tate has done a wonderful job to make such fascinating material available.

A perhaps lesser known jewel than its brother Tate Modern, this museum is extraordinary. Every room is a wonderful collage of British art that makes me happy whenever I visit. Being so intrinsically linked to its home in London, I think this is a must to really understand what British art is about.

Enjoyed a happy couple of hours exploring this gallery. We visited a temporary exhibition which we had to book (and pay for). It was fabulous and good value in my view. The free, permanent collection is also fantastic with most of Britain’s greatest artists represented. The Turner collection is particularly strong. The facilities are very good.

Tate Britain is a free to enter gallery, although you have to pay for some of the exhibitions there. The galleries are large and the art is varied and diverse. There is great information with each exhibit on the artist and piece of work. Wonderful way to spend an hour or two, and not as crowded as Tate Modern. Well worth a visit.

Art enthusiasts likely explored Tate Modern, but Tate Britain is often overlooked. It's a must-visit with a diverse art collection. Plan for a leisurely two hours, please beginning with classical paintings, then go to Turner's room, and concluding with modern art section.

The building itself deserves a visit. The collections (at least the free ones) can be visited in around 2 hours. I am not a big fan of 1800s art so I skimmed fast through those ones. I prefer Tate Britain rather than Tate Modern. :)

Very well organized museum! Quality artworks, especially the works by Turner! I’m so happy to be able to see so many Turner’s works from different period! The personal in the museum are professional and helpful! It’s free to visit all the collections! No reservation is needed!

One of the best things to do in London, I honestly thought I would get bored of this place but it was the complete opposite, there are loads of different artworks to look at, all having their own story to tell! And the best part? IT WAS FREE! I'd highly recommend you check this place out! It was super cool! I loved it personally! The new exhibition is very interesting as well! And some things here are just insanely cool! There are plenty of buses that go here and it is walk from Vauxhall station! In conclusion, a place you have to visit in London! It is amazing and brilliant and totally worth it!

Great museum with top notch art. Admission is free, but special exhibitions require a paid ticket. There's good accessibility, with ramps and elevators. There's a bag/coat storage. The Hew Locke exhibition in 2022 was stunning and poignant. It's easy to get to the Tate Britain via bus or tube.

Great collection with a thorough mix of modern and classical! The most beautiful (and prized) Ophelia painting is worth a visit just to admire this beauty in real life. There are several rotational exhibits too, showcasing the best of latest artists. The main shop is cute and decorated for Christmas, so it's a good time to drop in!

Tate Modern probably gets most of the headlines, but this gallery is probably one of our favourite places for art in London. The Turner collection alone makes this museum a must-visit for Art lovers in London. The staff are friendly, and the museum shop is world class. Did I mention that the art collection here is fantastic?? Well worth a visit to get a great panoramic view of British art through the centuries. Also - it’s free to enter!!!!

Tate Britain, known from 1897 to 1932 as the National Gallery of British Art and from 1932 to 2000 as the Tate Gallery, is an art museum on Millbank in the City of Westminster in London. It is part of the Tate network of galleries in England, with Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives. It is the oldest gallery in the network, having opened in 1897. It houses a substantial collection of the art of the United Kingdom since Tudor times, and in particular has large holdings of the works of J. M. W. Turner, who bequeathed all his own collection to the nation. It is one of the largest museums in the country. The main display spaces show the permanent collection of historic British art, as well as contemporary work. It has rooms dedicated to works by one artist, such as: Tracey Emin, John Latham, Douglas Gordon, Sam Taylor-Wood, Tacita Dean, Marcus Gheeraerts II, though these, like the rest of the collection, are subject to rotation. The gallery also organises career retrospectives of British artists and temporary major exhibitions of British Art. Every three years the gallery stages a Triennial exhibition in which a guest curator provides an overview of contemporary British Art. The 2003 Tate Triennial was called Days Like These. Art Now is a small changing show of a contemporary artist's work in a dedicated room.

Booked for a Monday slot and surprisingly it was very busy at 1:45pm. Loved the Life Between Islands exhibition, it was the only reason I trekked all the way to South West. Definitely recommend giving yourself enough time to actually enjoy each room, there were short films to watch so bare that in mind. The exhibition ends 3rd April 2022. Overall vibe of the Tate Britain was great, staff were all friendly and helpful. It’s in a convenient location near a few tube stations and bus stops. If they make more exhibitions like this, I will definitely be coming here more often.

Been meaning to visit the Tate for ages, so we were pleased to have dropped in to have a look around. The building is lovely and the rooms are beautiful. There’s a range of artwork spanning 1545 through to 2022 which provides a real breadth to what you can see. We were hoping to eat in the coffee shop but the costs were ASTRONOMICAL, £8.95 for a sausage roll?! £3.50 for a slice of brownie?! Would recommend Cafe Social by the bridge and a couple minute walk away.

We love Tate Britain. Amazing place for both adults and children. Very accessible for wheelchair users too. The current exhibition by Hew Lock the Procession is just Wow. You don’t need to be an art expert to enjoy the gallery art belongs to all. They do free talks with guide at 12pm , 2pm and 3pm every day. Check out the African Heritage Tours which take place at 3pm on the weekends those are brilliant not be to missed.

The best of British art. It’s been many years since I’ve been and was so happy to see how it’s been modernized and showcases the work so well. A beautiful building at its best. I was pleased to see Rose Finn-Kelsey represented, with a couple of pieces. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the Henry Moore sculptures with the Francis Bacon paintings.

Best art gallery in London by far. As you walk through it, you feel as though you are being brought on a journey through time, learning about the history of Great Britain with each step. I am particularly a fan of their impressionist selection, as well as the William Blake exhibit. The best part, it’s free.

Beautiful building and amazing content. Art work is beautifully presented in several halls. No long queues or overcrowding . Its comfortable enough to spend as little or as long as you want . For years I've been wanting to see its displays. I wasn't disappointed. With two entrances. U can enter via the lower ground floor to the rear. Or the grand entrance via the steps to the upper level at the front. Brilliant white and clean decor. With bathrooms and cafe in the lower basement. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Then a nice stroll along the River Thames.

Very nice museum with a wide variety of types of art. It’s very similar in a way to the Tate Modern, not stuck in the old time but cross the border to display the connection with modernn time. The Turner rooms dedicated to Turner is a Must.

Exceptional collection of art from British and international artists across multiple genres and from Tudor times through to the present day. Presentation is sometimes overcrowded, but most of the works do have space to be appreciated. Explanatory text cards do a good job of providing background information and flavour to the pictures. Café options were typically expensive and somewhat pretentious. Well worth spending several hours visiting if you enjoy looking at classic art.

Even during the lock down the Tate Museums do not fail to deliver. Although you are unable to go inside at this time, this holiday season they strung lights outside the building for an exhibit that displayed the words “remembering a brave new world”. Steve McQueen's 'Portrait of London' exhibition is superb. The floor to ceiling, wall to wall, hall full, array of classroom photographs initially appears to be overwhelming. But as soon as you focus upon an individual photo it gives hope for the future. A cuppa of real leaf tea adds to the enjoyment

We are Tate members and love Tate Britain, but this was our first post-COVID visit. We did visit the Andy Warhol exhibition at Tate Modern under COVID-19 conditions so did know what to expect. I was very happy with the level of precaution taken, I felt safe, and have no complaints. I love the member's cafe - the cakes are incredible - and was pleasantly surprised to see that nothing has changed. It's full service now instead of self-service, but the choice and quality remain the same. We came for the Turner exhibition (day three as we really couldn't wait to see it) and were hugely impressed. In the pre COVID-19 days, as a member, you could visit one of the exhibitions, e.g. last year's "Van Gogh and Britain" exhibition, go get a coffee, then go back in again. Timed tickets mean you can't do that any more so instead we did go back through some of the rooms before leaving. Not ideal but we are in strange times so compromises need to be made. I'm definitely going to revisit the Turner exhibition - probably in the new year. Hopefully by then we'll be in happier times.

Tate Britain, or as it was previously reasonably called the National Gallery of British Art, is a huge pompous building, the enormity of which you understand only when you walk through the exhibition. At the entrance you are met by two installations, the exposition is divided by years. What I did not know and was surprised that until the 16th century they painted on wood and the canvas, judging by the exposition, began to be applied later, although I noticed that paint does not crack on wood, as on canvas, but I guess the wood is not as practical as canvas and it is difficult to create large size paintings I presume. What is certain is that the gallery is well worth the time.

  • 4/5 Jim O. 2 years ago on Google
British art gallery with what you would expect, paintings and some sculptures by renowned artists but also with some unexpected surprises. The gallery is split into 2 main courses, up to 1930 and from 1930 > artwork. You have to book separately to see both and then several paid for areas which also have to be booked. So you'll never see the entire gallery in one visit. Makes it a bit of a faff to organise your time slots. Hence only 4 stars not 5. The building itself is is spacious and a fine looking interior and a great architectural exterior. Numbers are limited to enable covid spacing at present in 2021

amazing gallery! was very interesting to see the modern art exhibitions, and i loved the letters and sketches from the early 20th century. some of the sculptures were beautiful, along with the gorgeous architecture which stopped me in my tracks multiple times. a lot of the more abstract stuff I didn't quite care for, but that's purely because my bias lies in baroque/neo-classicism-era art; equally, i did feel as though i had learned a fair deal about the development of art, sculpting and their social roots and impacts by the end of my tour. it's definitely fun to indulge in solo! i feel as though taking my time was the best possible way to experience the gallery.

Tate Britain, Wow, I took a train to London and within 2 hours I was in Tate Britain enjoying the wonderful “Turners Modern World” and it is something out of this world, how prolific JMW Turner was, room after room of the most wonderful paintings and the information that went with them, I couldn’t stop smiling, then a quick check on all the others just to keep me going before my next visit. Life is good when you have art to view. Marc A Turner, Warrington Based Artist

Paula Rega exhibition most excellent… politically moving and boisterous…. Interesting the deliberate lack of balance she gives to her work… as unbalanced beautifully and often hideously to the statements she is trying to make…. Big discussion here

There is a wide selection of art from across a large selection of time and a representation by a number of artists. The art is well spaced and the galleries are bright and open allowing for easy movement between pieces. With the special exhibits and the extensive collection available to be viewed for free it is definitely worth a visit for any art lover or enthusiast or even for someone to spend a few hours looking at some interesting pieces.

Really nice collection of works and very friendly staff. Cafe is pretty basic. Gift shops seem to run out of many of the popular prints. The only drawback - I really wish they had map placards throughout the exhibition rooms/entrances of the whole museum. There are no printed maps (great step for not wasting paper) so it was impossible to tell where I was going to and where the exit was.

Lovely afternoon out in Westminster. The Tate Britain is free to visit but you have to check in & get a ticket due to covid. There are paid exhibitions inside also. If you want to try something different l suggest catch the boat along the river Thames.

I went to see the Life Between Islands exhibition on Sunday with My sister and we both loved the range and diversity of art and artists on display. From painting, sculpture, photography, poetry, music and video providing a very rich multi-sensory experience. If you can, go before it closes on 3 April and learn about the history of Black Caribbeans’ relationship with the “Mother country” as well.

I had a brilliant afternoon. I went to see life between islands. Great exhibition. Will go again and wait for the afternoon tour. Need more directional but the staff were very accommodating in showing the way around.

Located on the north riverbank just south of Pimlico and Victoria train station. They have great permanent and seasonal exhibitions. The members area is located on the top floor, overlooking the beautiful staircase. There is also a public cafe located on the basement.

First visit here, even to the area and was pleasantly surprised. The museum was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The art work was amazing. Ophelia is and always has been my personal favourite. The building had some beautiful rooms, colours helped to create the mood. The Turner exhibition was quite breathtaking. Seeing both his and Constable's paint palettes was pretty awesome. Such history, telling a story of their lives. I hope to return again.

An interesting museum where you can discover both classical arts - including the biggest collection of Turner's works - and more modern ones. The museum is free but you will have to pay to see the temporary exhibitions. I recommend !

The Modern has stolen the limelight, so I hadn't been to Britain for decades, and what a delight it turned out to be! Wonderful collections in a fantastic building. Thoroughly worth a visit.

The Tate Britain is always an enjoyable experience. Depending on your artistic proclivities you will always find something that you visually enjoy or that speaks to your inner emotional being. The architectural qualities of the building are quite soothing, it's cavernous central hall when not filled with a riotus or experimental sculptural installation can be quite peaceful and cool on a hot summers day. Tate Britain's exhibition program is varied and takes in artists across the spectrum, recent shows have included Lynette Yadom-Boakye, William Blake, Cornelia Parker, Aubrey Beardsley, The Rosettis, Rachel Whiteread, Paul Nash and many many more. One of my favourites was a recent retrospective exhibition of Paula Regos work before she passed away, which was exceptionally well presented, I returned 3 times as there was so much to take in. I would suggest getting membership if you are an art lover and intend to visit often it's a lot more cost effective than purchasing tickets for the paid shows singularly. The free permanent collection has recently been rehung including more artists living and dead from various diverse areas of Britain. I visited to view the rehang and although some inclusions seemed slightly jarring purely in location, on a whole I enjoyed it. I always appreciate it when national art institutions make an effort to provide further context and diversify their holdings to better represent the nation they serve. There's a wonderful room of Rothkos in which you get to fully appreciate their size and emotional depth in subdued lighting. As for the facilities, there are plenty of toilets and they are kept clean to a good standard. There's a free coat check although donations are accepted. There are plenty of soft seats around the gallery spaces and also small and light foldable stalls you can carry with you. This is especially handy for those who wish to sketch as you can prop yourself up infront of some sculptural works by Henry Moore or any other wonderful form and visual delight and sketch to your hearts content. Tate Britain is one of my go to places, whether it's to gather inspiration for my own future artistic works, to further expand my knowledge and mind or, to simply experience a moment of cool peace away from the hustle and bustle of the street, I can't recommend it enough.

The Women in Revolt exhibition is excellent. Sure, it is of my time making me a living fossil there. Nonetheless, it is still relevant and important not least as it shows how all our problems in little England go back to Thatcher and how most social progress is made on the ground and led by women.

It was amazing! I'm not an artist, so I didn't have high expectations, but I really enjoyed it. The paintings were beautiful. We went during a school week, so there were no children screaming and running. So all in all a fantastic experience.

I went with Mt kids school trip. The museum is nice but I would have liked to see special workshops for children who come on school trip, like many other museums do in London. They only received a booklet to fill it. It would be nice to allocate a room for them to sit and do some art activities with specially trained guides, and then go on a tour and listen to interesting facts about the paintings and the stories behind them.

Just in for a quick visit while in the area and was blown away. The architecture of the galleries is fantastic, and still has a great selection of modern pieces, as well as a deep dive into older British art. Had a quick nibble in the cafe as well, which was good if a little noisy due to the acoustics

Tate Britain is a must-visit, in my opinion. It houses some incredibly beautiful pieces of art. The museum offers free exploration, with payment required only for certain temporary exhibitions. It's entirely up to you which to explore. Personally, I opted for the free tour since I arrived at the Tate late in the evening and had limited time before the doors closed at 6 pm.

There is always a learning experience in a British museum! Participate in the free tours highlighting specific masterpieces or authors. There are many, free of charge, time limit to better knowledge. The bookshop and the canteen are nice and well sorted

From Tudor period art to modern, this has it all in an easy to follow route. Some of the pieces are breathtaking. The thing with art, you do not have to know anything about a piece, but it can still reach out to you and make you feel something.
