It's a very small museum with a nice atmosphere. You can learn to draw some cartoons with your children in the activity area, learn about the historic evolution of cartoons. When we visited recently we participated in Oxford University's laughter lab study about cartoons which by itself was fun. Both me and my 8 year old son enjoyed the visit. Children enter for free and there are convenient bathrooms.

Lovely place to visit to pass an hour or so. History of cartoons and cartoonists since about the 18th Century. Through the wars, politics and life in general are all covered with great satire and wit by many famous scrawlers. I wouldn't really recommend for very young kids though, it's more for the young or mature adults.

i love visiting the museum and had many good laughs with several of the cartoons exhibited. it is quite a small collection but pretty decent. also, they have been quite affected by the pandemic (the opened right before it kicked in) and really need more people to know about it and visit. bonus points for the souvenir store! very creative and made me want to buy several items

I personally loved it. As both a tourist in London, and a person passionate about drawing, I found it super interesting. They had a little extra exhibit on a graphic novelist and his process and comics throughout the years, which I found absolutely enthralling. Seeing the way his mind worked and how he created his novels really inspired me. I have to admit, I ended up attempting to make a little comic of my own. It was quite a good small size, perfect for a pop in and look around. Loved it

Wasn’t what we expected but still a very good experience for adults and kids. Staff is very engaging and friendly. Some of the important historic moments captured perfectly. There is a drawing section for kids. Small shop on the entry/exit. Walking distance from Oxford Circus underground station.

We visited this museum as a group of friends. I really enjoyed my time. It is a small museum with a good collection of original drawings. It was nice to see the historical evolution of British cartoons. The staff are kind and helpful and the toilets are very clean. It was worth the ticket price.

It wasn't quite what I expected but it was very good. I had expected mainly cartoons aimed at children, but the focus was on political satire. It was a small quirky museum with friendly staff and cartoons to look at saying back over history.

For those who like cartoons and comics, this would be a great place to browse a big collection of British work. Great efforts made to bring all this in one venue. There is a store as well on the site.

One of London's hidden gems. The volunteer on the front desk was very informative. The cartoons were well presented and the whole exhibition was fun to see. If you have some free time it is well worth a visit.

Fascinating exhibits, well laid out, knowledgeable and friendly staff and volunteers. If you're remotely interested in cartoons and comics you'll find something to enjoy. The activities are fun too.

My first visit since it moved. They've used the space well, staff are friendly, shop is good. However the permanent exhibition is now very focused on political and gag cartoons, with virtually no comics or sequential art. An impressive collection but quite niche (and little interest to kids of any age I'd imagine). Much narrower focus than the old place. The current temporary exhibit, on Judge Dredd, is tiny (see photo) - 10 mostly nondescript pieces of original art and a video. Sadly I can't imagine I'd pay to come back for whatever the next exhibit is.

Lovely cheap place, lovely staff, interesting if you enjoy cartoons, comics or even British counter culture/satire. Good gift shop too, wish it had more Beano personally but I collect Beano.

A small museum close to Oxford Street is very interesting and it is a good experience to see buildings and statues in some comics that you have visited or studied before. A great place to visit, full of British humour. Admission is a bargain, £3 for students. I probably won't come back because it's so small, it's about 40 minutes after the whole thing, but it's a good choice.By the way, the location given in the Museum of London guide is wrong.

It’s a small museum, adults entry £8, concession tickets £5, students £3 and under 18 is free. When we arrived, we had waited in the queue for more than 10 mins only because the lady in the front payment hasn’t gone thru the machine, and we were waiting for them to sort out. While we were waiting patiently, the staff/manager I think his name is James came to me and said he would offer me concessions tickets cos of the wait, which was very kind of him. When we first entered the exhibition, a staff explained some of the cartoons / history to us which is very informative and he is also very friendly. The exhibition is very interesting I have to say, it’s a small area we spent about an hour there, but the whole experience is very pleasant.

I visited the Cartoon Museum on the day the UK Chancellor was sacked and Trussonomics was hopefully consigned to the garbage bin of history. The museum has a superb collection of political cartoons from the 18th century onwards. A wonderful reminder that politicians have been posturing noisily for centuries, and thank God we have humour and satire to rein them in. Love this place, so much more they could do if funding allowed. A proper museum catalogue would be a good place to start.

Small museum dedicated to print political cartoons. Expensive for the amount of content, which is two small rooms. Lacking structure, it could do with explaining more about the historical context of the cartoons and the artists. Also surprised at the lack of other types of cartoons - there was a good Wallace and Gromit exhibit when I went but otherwise this is strictly political cartoons only

Really excellent little museum dedicated to cartoon art in all its forms with an emphasis on British cartoonists. It’s really well laid out and curated with an amazing array of original artwork from the little known to the iconic. There’s also a nice little gift shop and the staff are lovely. There’s even a space where you can draw your own cartoons and comics. Very highly recommended if you’re in London.

The Cartoon is a very underrated Art Form..So much can be said in one Cartoon, that would take much narrative to get across the same point..The Artists are in the main highly skilled, but also in many cases great Narrators and Joke tellers. They can make sometimes poignant, sometimes political and of course sometimes just downright funny statements in just 1 or a few drawings. And of course we enjoy it even more if we get the point or joke made. This is a great place to see some of the very best..Marley -Dawg is on standby in case he,s needed to rescue anybody who drives 60 miles whilst blind, and with a bad cough/high temperature!!

This is a MUST visit if you are in London - close to Oxford Circus. They have an exhibition of cartoons - particularly political ones - from well known newspaper and magazine cartoonists. They presently have a side exhibition of my late father's collection of cartoons and illustrations done for him by cartoonists and illustrators who used to visit his shops for pen nibs. This side exhibition is called 'Dear Mr.Poole..' and is on until June 2020. Don't miss it.

This is a bit expensive great little gem with a misleading name. I would have called it "The (Political) Cartoon Museum" just to avoid the wrong expectations. We had a great introduction from the staff and a fascinating visit. My only observation is that in order to fully appreciate the exhibit you might need a bit more context on the political timeline (details are present near the cartoons but what was going on in the wide world might make it more impactful).

Deinfately worth stopping by. We spent an hour here. Its £8.50 for adults. Cheaper for students and concession individuals. The cartoons on display are fun and really good. I was lucky to over hear a tour group so that helped. I played a game with my friend if we could guess what the picture was about without reading the caption!

A fun little museum in the heart of London. Been to a few exhibitions here and they always have interesting and engaging topics. The price is good too - especially if you have a National Art Pass, then it's free. Would recommend to anyone looking for something to pass an hour or so in the capital.

This is a little gem of a museum, hidden away in the back streets of Fitzrovia. Entry prices are very fair for the exhibition £8.50 Adult, £5.0 Conc and £3.0 Student. I can't define the concept of the cartoon any better than that given by the curator in the introductory spiel "They are works of art with an ulterior motive; they observe, report, disturb, disrupt, amuse, attack, pock fun and pontificate. Very enjoyable and entertaining exhibition of Cartoons, additionally there is a developing exhibition of Comic Book material. I could actually spend a couple of hours here if I was to absorb myself in the details of every cartoon.

A worthwhile visit to admire the acerbity and charm of yesteryear's cartoonists. Some brief biographies are provided for relevant featured cartoonists - however, in terms of educating yo-self fulsomely about the history and development of cartoons, strangely this museum doesn't quite directly do that. Perhaps fittingly, the present-day cartoons and merchandise for sale in the gift shop are very political - much of it anti-Tory. Perhaps some bipartisanship wouldn't go astray, as I consider all sides of politics worthy of lampoonery. The entry cost perhaps needs to be revisited as the collection was not uber-extensive and a saw with my own eyes a man walk in, and heard with my own ears the man ask how much a ticket was, before he promptly left.

Very interesting political cartoons and some hilarious ones as well! It’s a smaller museum but had a good amount of cartoons to look at. The Wallace and Gromit exhibit was fun. It explored their start as a drawing to claymation to the tv screen.

The Cartoon Museum was pretty decent. I like the old comics no matter the reasons for them. I do believe those running the place should leave their own politics and social matters out of their business. Be neutral and you will get happier customers.

Not as big as I thought it was going to be and costs a bit more than I thought it should be for it's size. It's main emphasis is on political cartoons. Cartoons and Comics cover a wide range of topics and I hope the museum will eventually be able to show in their display. Whilst starting this review somewhat negatively, I enjoyed what I saw, the staff were nice and friendly and I think having a museum on this subject is very important.

Entrance for adults is 8.50£. Is a small place, only one room. Maybe I had high expectations for this place but is not worthy. By the other hand staff is so polite and friendly. Is sad that such a good place doesn't have much to show, especially because is London

If you like your comics, political cartoons or animation, this is the place to head for. When I was there this time in October 23, there was a display on by Aardman. The political cartoons are brilliant and you walk through the changes in styles and attitudes of UK humour and artwork. In the centre is the life size Spitting Image puppet of Roy Hattersley, made famous by his ability to spray the audience with spit when he talked. Another hidden gem, just off the busy Oxford Street that is well worth a visit.

We visited the cartoon museum whilst on a trip to London. It had caught my eye as it wasn't too far from Madame Tussauds which we had also booked to visit. It is a very small gallery of mainly political/satire cartoons. Unfortunately there wasn't anything that our 2 sons enjoyed (age 10 & 11). I feel it's really for adults. Children are free to enter, students was around £3 and adults around £8. It was nice to break up our walk between venues and we were able to put our rucksacks in the free lockers to give our backs a break whilst browsing.

It was a very pleasant evening. I saw some work that I knew some work I didn't and an exhibition that brought many memories. Knowledgeable curators & speakers. The museum was a bit disappointing. We paid £8 entry to see a large room that felt more like a commercial gallery than a museum. There was no historic timeline of events, just hundreds of pictures in picture frames. From the photos and reviews we expected more. On the way out, we noticed that there was a few rooms that were closed. Why are they still charging full price entry when more than half the museum couldn't be accessed? In its current state, the museum is not suitable for children and is well overpriced.

Friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed looking around. Imagined it would be a little larger. From photos also believed there would be interactive things for the children. They children liked reading through the magazines and comics whilst taking a seat.

An excellent museum, with a great range of cartoons through time and thematic idea. The size is perfect to whip round in 45mins, with the cartoons explaining themselves really.

  • 3/5 Candice J. 2 years ago on Google
The idea was lovely and the décor cool but not what I expected. Very little to do for children and no large library of comics to explore. Perhaps I misread the information, but it was stark and for adults more than anything.

Interesting museum of you are into cartoons. Historical and current cartoonist featured mostly men. Only critique is as you enter into the exhibition one of the first cartoons you are greeted with is one of Boris Johnson with the words Piccaninnies coming out of his mouth. It was a bit of a shock for me as a Black Women, it didn't make me feel welcomed and I spent rest of time thinking about it. Keep the cartoon in the exhibition yes, but not as one of the first cartoons that you are greeted with. Especially when you have a small exhibition of Natasha Natarajan work which will attract more people of colour to your museum. The Boris one would have been better placed by the Tony Blair moving image, I feel.
