I had the WORST experience of my entire life at this hostel. The organization is a chaos, mainly by the management that puts ONLY 1 EMPLOYEE to take care of the reception, bar and bags. I arrived at the hostel on April 29, 2022 at 11am to check in and leave my backpack. I was informed that check in was from 3 pm, but that I could leave my backpack in a room where other guests also left it. Everything was fine. The employee told me that at check-in time I would have to wait for the person at the reception to get my backpack, as the room was secured with a key. I arrived at the hostel at 8pm to check in and pick up my belongings, as I needed to shower and get ready to enjoy my first Friday in London. It was here that everything started to turn into chaos. The employee very curtly informed me that I could only remove my backpack at 11:30pm and that this should have been advised by the previous employee, who DID NOT. I tried to talk, also because it was not the fault of this night employee, explaining that I needed to take a shower and that it was a mistake of the previous employee and that mistake could not punish me, without letting me have access to my items and DOCUMENTS (a federal crime). There was no demonstration of an attempt at resolution by the employee who was clearly exhausted from her duties as there were too many responsibilities for just one professional. The lack of respect, irony/sarcasm and rudeness made me book a new hotel to get out of that environment as quickly as possible. With that said, I asked again to have access to my belongings and passport to go check in at another hotel and I was prevented from doing so, she explained that from 11:30pm there would be two employees and I could pick them up. SUMMARY: I PAID A NEW HOTEL, BUS TO THE NEW HOTEL TO WAIT FOR 11:30 AM TO TAKE ANOTHER BUS TO THE HOSTEL TO GET MY BELONGINGS AND DOCUMENTS TO TAKE AN UBER BACK TO THE HOTEL AND BE ABLE TO CHECK IN.

If you are studying abroad do not stay here. We thought it was a good price and their website seemed pretty okay for a hostel but I wouldn’t not recommend anyone to stay here. There was old men walking around in their underwear and we as women felt extremely uncomfortable. There was a sticky stain on our floor when we walked into the room. It smelled funky and did not seem clean at all. There’s no towels or any normal things that you should be given at a hostel. There is no safety measures that are being done to keep strangers from coming into the hostel. Lost of older men partying. Very scary. Pay the extra money to sleep somewhere safe. The area this is in also did not feel safe to be In.

The place is acceptable to stay in a hostel. They have good customer service and I really liked that in the rooms they have cages to store your belongings (But you need to carry a lock) They definitely have to clean the elevator, it smelled really bad. And the sheets weren't very clean, they didn't seem to be changed. Other than that the place is acceptable and has a good location 👌🏼

Honestly didn’t enjoy my stay at all. Staff aren’t the nicest especially the receptionist Cherry; she had an attitude which wasn’t nice at all, seemed like she didn’t care enough to help guests. It was never possible to leave luggage in luggage room; always full..even doubt they have one at all. The vibes were very boring, no social atmosphere; don’t expect to meet anyone. Rooms are organized but not really clean. Location isn’t close to any of the attractions. Never again there!

One of the worst hostels I’ve ever been! Our room had a dirty floor, shower was not cleaned and there were still clothes, trash and other stuff from the people before us. The only thing they cleaned were the beds. We couldn’t close the window so it was quite cold in the room. The lounge was nice but everything shuts at 10pm and you have to leave the area. The drinks are really expensive too! The management was horrible. We arrived to about 20 sleeping and waiting people who were waiting to check in but there was no real opportunity to leave the bags safe so waiting was the only option. At 3pm they started doing check ins for about 40-50 people and we had to queue for another 2 hours. So if you looking for a bad expensive hostel, this is the right place!

The great thing about the hostel is the location. It’s in a pleasant neighborhood and within a walking distance to the main attractions. Plus the busses leaving from right in front of it will take you to the most desired destinations. There is a small supermarket next to it and a super nice diner across the street. The hostel itself is not so perfect. It is clearly understaffed and chaotic. We had to wait for our luggage we left in the luggage room for almost 30 minutes before someone came to us. The staff is in a hectic craze to keep up with the work and they’re not the nicest due to that. We were leaving at 5 a.m and I specifically asked about checkout at such a time and was instructed to just leave the key at the check in/out desk. But the guy forget to mention that at that time the checkout area located at the bar is closed. So at 5 a.m, just a few minutes before our bus was leaving, we were a bit panicked and searching for the night reception that was not indicated anywhere and an open way out just to be able to leave the building. The family room was fine, a separate secluded section, but it was really warm. The duvets were super thick and the room got really stuffed at night. The ventilation did not work and the bathroom was dump all the time with some ceiling mould. All in all, if the staff and organization gets improved this might be a really great place to stay.

I WAS ROBBED BY STAFF AT THE HOSTEL. I left my money assuming it was a "safe" stay. I had a private room for me and my friends, and someone came in while we weren't in the room, opened the lockers under the bed, and stole nearly 1000 euros. I tried getting help from the reception, but they didn't provide any advice. I have already been to the police, but since I'm leaving for my country soon, I can only hope that the hostel finds someone responsible and gives me a full refund. I wouldn't recommend this hostel. Not at all.

This was the worst hostel I've ever stayed at. Not at all a hostel vibe. The staff were rude and unhelpful. I booked 3 beds in a 6 bed dorm and we were all put in different dorms, despite booking weeks earlier and there also being two spare beds in the room of one of my companions. They managed to move just one of us for the second night after we spoke to the manager. In my first room I had a bed by the window and there was no curtain over the window and so I was woken by the light very early. Then the room they moved me to was clearly a lot older, dirtier and the beds were incredibly noisy, if anyone made a slight move, the whole room would know. The taps in both rooms had boiling water in them, I almost scalded myself on the first night and I didn't even have the tap set to hot, it was directly in the middle. Overall though the worst part was definitely the service, we felt so uncomfortable if we had to go to reception to speak to anyone. We tried to find somewhere else after the way they treated us but unfortunately everywhere was fully booked unless you were a millionaire! Will never stay here again.

The positive part is the location is quite OK, and you can use the lift by tap your room card. And your can enjoy some private space. And they offer two bathrooms per room. But the smell is not enjoyable, especially in the bathroom. Also, when you open the room door, you might smell something unpleasant. But faithfully, It might be the best choice if you do not have budget and always book accommodation at last minutes.

The hostel is good. But having booked 9 nights for the staff seems like it was bad news instead of welcoming me with gratitude. They have changed my room twice. Firstly because they said that I had reserved many days and there was no availability. And the second time because it started raining inside the room due to a leak in the ceiling of my room. I want to clarify that I made my reservation and payment one month in advance. They should have planned better with that information they received in advance.

Shower wasn't working....as a result I had to move rooms. The Toilet in the second room had a faulty flush and had a constant trickle of water. This was a nuisance during the night. Finally, the kitchen facilities were closed and only available to paying customers at breakfast. I've stayed once before when basic facilities were accessible whether you paid extra for breakfast or not. On a plus point the staff were polite and courteous.

Where do I start? Firstly, the information on the company website is incorrect. It states that check-out is 11:00am but when I got my booking confirmation through, this said 10:00am. As someone who pays close attention to detail, I checked this BEFORE booking, and when I brought this to the attention of the hostel, they couldn't have cared less. The member of staff I spoke to on the phone mentioned that she'd worked here for over a year, and it had never been 11:00am. So, we're definitely off to a bad start. Instead of rectifying the problem, they suggested that I pay for a late check-out. I would have expected this to be passed on as a gesture, however they were insistent that it was my error and that I should pay more. That isn't where it stops, there were multiple emails backwards and forwards about this, even after I'd checked in. Fine, so I checked out at 10am but this is important for guests to note. This hostel is an extremely money-grabbing place, and everything is set up for you to have to pay more during your stay. Padlocks to secure your items in the rooms have to be bought at reception, luggage storage costs more, no kitchen, but they have vending machines and you can buy things from their cafe and bar. The mediocre breakfast is £8 per person, the list goes on and on. The lifts were a joke and not working, so I had to lug my huge case up several flights of stairs and then try to navigate this maze to find my room. Inside the room, the bathroom door was broken so it couldn't be closed. Not good for a mixed dorm, or any dorm at that matter. The only saving grace at this hostel was that the beds were surprisingly comfortable although the rooms were cold with no heating. It is November! The only other great thing about my stay was that the people in my 4 bed shared dorm room were lovely, and we spent hours taking in the evening. There are much better hostels at a similar price point that I've stayed at that I would recommend to friends or colleagues instead of this place, that isn't even passable for someone in a bind.

While this is only the fourth hostel I’ve stayed in it was my least favorite. Everything seemed to be in an attempt to make us pay extra. You would have to pay money if they saw you eating your own food in the hostel instead of buying theirs, and you have to pay to keep you bags in a room if you need your bags held in which is not lockers- you put them on the floor with everyone else’s. Then, we walked into the room we thought was private to a room full of guests in their who were apart of some traveling group. Our shower was dirty, and the floor had a leak right outside of our room. The front staff was very limited, making it hard to talk to anyone without waiting in a line for a while. Additionally, we only got one card for multiple people. The other hostels I’ve been in have been decorated way better, and have had complimentary breakfasts or at least let us eat our own food. Also, other hostels I’ve been in seem to be a lot of young travelers, while this one had a large array of people. I liked the curtains here though and the big crates we could put our stuff in in the rooms.

Edit: If you actually read my review, it's obvious that I'm aware of that fact. Just warning others. They will place you and your accompanying travelers in the same room upon request, and then miraculously move you to different rooms when you check-in at the front desk. Kind of ridiculous in my opinion. You'll survive, but I wouldn't recommend this for traveling in pairs or groups. It's in their policy, but I was uncomfortable as a woman being separated from my group. Wish I had read the reviews before we booked, but I wasn't the one making the reservations.

As i do work in the same industry i would say that even you seem to have a nice product(hostel), however seeing all the time employees with a sad and unhappy face made me feel they would like to be in another place, and that's an important thing you to see. You must work a lot on that. When we arrived at room it was ok. It could have a better mattress, but the rest was nice, as we expect when we booked. About cleaning i just requested one time for cleaning our room. Just changed towels. Didn't made our beds or even changed our sheets. We didn't had enough bath gel. Lobby was nice, vibe also, but at this time i don't know if i would booked again. Have a great day!

It is an excellent hostel. Special thanks to the reception who were always helpful alongside with the other members of staff. The one thing I like the most about this place the lounge area in the bar. Great comfortable space to work or just chilling out. Prices are affordable and the standard of the rooms are generally higher than other hostels with similar prices.

I booked the bed before I came in London. But my booking was already cancelled and hostel was fully booked. I couldn’t stay there even I explained many times. Surprisingly, they charged 20€ from my card without my permission. It was disgusting. 😩

In a room with 6 ppl the window could only be opened a few inches and that shouldn't even be legal in a room with no other ventilation. I found the service to be excellent but their system is buggy so it took a while to get my room the first night due to technical issues. One of the bathrooms had a shower that worked for 14 seconds at a time and you had to click the button every time for another 14 seconds of water. The other bathroom had a shower that worked for over a minute at a time and was perfect but there was no window there and it was way too hot due to the heater being permanently on max. True gamble whether or not you get a good bathroom with your room. If the ventilation was better and the price cheaper they would be top score. But they charge approx the same as half of a nice double hotel room so if someone travels with one more person they would have no reason to be here for example. Also they charge you for bringing food but won't sell anything gluten free. The food options for people who can eat gluten is really good though.

SCAM! Be careful and check your transactions after your stay, I had £160 taken out of my account 2 days after my stay. I have been chasing them for the refund for weeks now, I have called multiple times and have now been asked to send an email which they are clearly ignoring as its been over a week. During the stay I found the staff were very unhelpful and in some cases quite rude, and now the staff have clearly been told to ignore my inquiry to get my money back! Would not recommend to anyone!

The half board deal is not worth it. Far too pricey for a hostel and what you received for breakfast and dinner. Wouldn't buy again. No plugs to charge your phone over night if you on the top bunks. Sound really nice staff and some look they don't want to be there.

The reception was rude, unhelpful and really cold to everyone. Other than that the stay was good, the rooms are neat and feel safe. The location is fantastic for anyone visiting London as a tourist, it's a nice walking distance to big Ben and the bus stops outside take you pretty much anywhere you need to go

Have stayed here on multiple occasions. The rooms are great for the price. All beds have curtains for a bit of privacy. The rooms are cleaned daily. The bathrooms are decent but could be cleaned a bit more in-depth and cleaners could make sure toilet roll and soap in all bathrooms and showers are filled and working. Internet is good in the lobby area and in some rooms. If you're in an 8 bed dorm along the 020 corridor, you won't have Wi-Fi access and because of how thick the walls are, 5G doesn't work and 4G is incredibly slow (pretty much doesn't work at all). So I would highly suggest asking for a room away from that area. Other than that, great place to stay with great, welcoming workers.

For one night it's okay, if you do not find another space. I paid too much for a single room - Around 90£. The room is faced to the main street. If you are open the windows for fresh air, for example it is very loud. But if the windows are closed, it's loud too. Like the hole house. At night there is so much sound in the floor above that is hard to get some sleep. The bed also, very, very soft and down on floor. The location and room are clean. The location is perfect for visiting hole London. Elephant and Castle Station is not far away. Staff is friendly and helpfull. Thanks for that.

Rooms were clean and serviceable. didn't expect any amenities and didn't get any which was fine. super understaffed for all of the groups rolling through. no fans or air conditioning during the hottest days in London in at least a generation. my two youngest got sick. I had a great trip but probably won't stay here again or visit London during a heat wave again.

Good stay! My friend and I stayed at a female dorm, being in total 6 women. The room was clean and as it shows in the pictures. Much appreciated that we had our own toilet and shower. It is a bit far away from the center to go walking, but easily reachable by public transport.

Well, one of the best options if you're looking for something with more spacious, more modern, cleaner etc. facilities. The en-suite option had separate rooms, 1 shower + sink and 1 toilet + sink. Apart from being a shared space it almost feels like a hotel.

I had an amazing experience at Safestay hostels and hotels! The vibes were fantastic, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and always ready to help, which made me feel right at home. Not only was the stay affordable, but the quality of service and amenities exceeded my expectations. The cherry on top was the superb location, making it easy to explore the area. I can't wait to stay there again!

I’m not very sure how to approach the team and tell them about my frustration anymore. Hope writing a review here will give people an alert about this matter as well as the team. I called them for 3 weeks now, explaining that I’ve already made my payment, I even emailed them the proof of payment and the team HAS CONFIRMED with me that I'VE MADE MY PAYMENT. YET I’m still receiving warning emails from the reception that I’ve outstanding balance to pay. I’ve never been so frustrated as when I called them, they say they will look into and sort it out but each and everyday, they try to cut money from my card. I’ve called the bank to freeze my card (their proposed solution not mine) and I did what they told, and now everyday I receive emails from them that they are going to take action if I don’t pay. I’ve been calling them, sending emails to them and I’m not doing that anymore. No one is really solving this issue, they’re just entertaining me on the phone and leave my matter aside after they cut the call. So if any of you who want to book with safestay, I can say I had a good stay there but not anymore when their system is handicapped like how they handle their customer’s issue.

Decent hostel with clean and large rooms to share. The lockers under the beds keep personal items safe. The bathrooms and showering facilities leave a lot to be desired, but for what I paid I was fairly satisfied.

The room and lobby were clean. Great location and transport nearby. The downside was that there were no vegan options for breakfast or lunch, and the luck of the draw meant that we had to stay in the same room as guests with hygiene problems. Unfortunately staff were unable to switch our rooms.

The amenities are quite basic but this place definitely has everything for a comfortable stay. The downstairs bar and garden are nice and always lively. The highlight though, has to be the staff - they're warm and helpful!

Goods: 1) Location, at the heart of the city. All the commutes are at few minutes walk 2) Rooms are quite decent, we took 3 bed ensuite room, spacious when compared to price paid (24GBP per person) Bads: Service: Not great at all. We arrived little early. We asked if we check in early, check in was at 3 pm. So, we were not allowed. That's fine by the rule, - But they do not have space to keep the luggage as well. Lockers are always full. Also, there is no other space where you can keep your luggage and travel around the city. - We were told the check-in starts at 3pm and hence so many others. So at 3 there was a long queue for check-ins. We had to stand 40minutes to get the keys, so actually checked in at 3:40pm - The first day there were no bath towels provided - At night when asked for drinking water, we were denied saying the counter is closed and there is no room-service after 3.30pm. - On the final day there was no hot water in the shower.

I would say it was a pretty bad stay if I compare it with other hostels where I've stayed. The toilet was filthy, staff was kinda rude and lift wasn't working while checking out. The only good thing was the curtains attached to the bed for privacy.

Wonderful short stay accomodation with cheaper price. Near to London eye, tower bridge, Westminster. Well maintained and has good staff. They have there own bar both garden seating and indoor seating. We booked for 3 nights for 4 people. It was just £ 100 pounds

Very enjoyable stay. Such great pleasant staff always on hand to assist. Only reason this isn't a 10 is due to following When checking in I was allocated a bed which was in use so was reallocated to another room an bed that was also in use. The 4.50 'great breakfast' advertised was just cereal a coisssant a yoghurt an apple an hot drink. So falls short on my opinion of great. Despite these 2 minor points I enjoyed my stay and applaud the hard working staff at a busy weekend during the Euro finals and a massive thank you for managing to accommodate me on short notice to watch the final.

This place is amazing. After 2 failed attempts at hostels in London, this place came through and went above and beyond my expectations. Safe, clean, it’s basically like a hotel, but you share a room. My bathroom and shower was in our room with 4 bunks. When I come back, this is going to be the spot I’ll frequenting!!! Great job guys! 😊

A good hostel for a couple of nights’ stay when in London. The staff were courteous and helpful. The bar area is really nice and all the rooms are neatly maintained. The only problem during my visit was that several rooms had bathrooms under maintenance.

Our stay here was a few days. Very quiet and peaceful place. You even have your own personal key and without it you cannot get into the lift to your room so very safe, not anybody can come in. Built in showers that are clean and TV and confectionery provided.

Very nice hostel (tho it did have a bit too much purple for my liking 🤣)! The staff were extremely kind and helpful, they answered all of my questions with patience and were very professional. It’s near the ‘Bakerloo’ line and they were a lot of busses nearby, so means of transportation were quite accessible and easy. The place due to covid (i’m assuming) was a little bit quiet and there wasn’t that much ‘vibe’, however, I would recommend it to a fellow traveller :) Hope this review helps

3.8 stars. The staff is very friendly here and open 24/7 which is helpful. The rooms are well taken care of and nice, as well as the bathrooms and showers. Could have done with better sized locks for luggage and a better lobby/bar area. Maybe somewhere to sit and socialize. Also I got air dropped a explicit picture so…

Stayed here while working in Brockwell park. Very central location and only 5min walk from train station. Place itself was very secure with plenty of staff and security at all hours. Rooms were very clean and plenty of privacy. Breakfast served in the mornings had a great selection. I recommend this place for groups on tour or needing low cost bed while travelling for work

The room itself was nice and clean, I liked the decor of the room and bed was comfy but there wasn't a plug point available at the top bunk. There was a shower and toilet which was in the dorm I was in which was handy as you don't need to leave the room to get ready. Location was OK, it was easy to get to more central parts of London but there wasn't much happening in the area around the hostel. There was someone quite argumentative in the room causing some commotion but hey, when you book a hostel that's the sort of situation that could open up, so no fault of the hostel, just down to bad luck.

  • 3/5 Lisa 1 year ago on Google
Rooms were what you would expect from a hostel, basic but clean which was the main thing for us as we just wanted a base to get our head down. Downstairs toilets near reception were gross, far from clean and all blocked that nearly put me off but the room one was fine. Staff were polite and helpful. Location was good, plenty of bus routes, underground near by or London Eye walkable in 20mins. Could do with more lockers as both days we were there couldn't get a locker to leave our bags, luckily I'd drove to London so ended up leaving them in the car. No parking but managed to reserve a space close to the hostel online before we arrived.

  • 2/5 Anna S. 1 year ago on Google
The stuff at the reception was nice and the bed and showers were clean. But that’s it. The room itself was not very clean and quite worn down. The metal locker made a lot of noise and I had a great trouble using it given that I arrived in the night and didn’t want to wake the others. The people sitting at the reception…not even sure all of them are guests. Some look downright homeless and it gives a very uneasy feeling. The furniture in the area is old and dirty. The croissants sold at the reception taste 3 days old, thank God they’re only £1.

I love the neighborhood, trendy, in motion with all the new buildings, but also working-class. The room was fresh (I was in a 8 bed mix dorm) and perfect with its own bathroom and toilets, also there are curtains around the bed and a large enough locker under the beds.

Best location and price for London. There are luggage lockers available in the room and cleaning service literally clean the room when you compare with the other hostels. I would love to express here again for the receptionist lady, dear Ikram thank you for your welcoming approach and kind help to solve my problem very quickly.

Rooms are simple but functional. Beds comfy and the curtains are a big plus. Plug socks available near the bunk. I booked a bottom bunk and got a reply that it was allocated. Then when I booked in I was given a top bunk. I spoke to the staff and they kindly swapped it and appologied. However when I got to the room someone was in my allocated bottom bunk. Couldn't be changed at 10 pm so I left it. Plus the last under me has taken up all the space at the end of the bunks and at the side. No where to leave me shoes anywhere near the base. But not going to be a comfortable or restful night as I don't like highs. This will likely stop me booking here. Its total luck who is in the room, but I need a bottom bunk if I am to get restful sleep. I'll make other plans in the future.

The hostel was all in all a good decision. We used it mostly to start Sightseeing-Tours. Everything was in easy reach, so the location was perfect for us. Also the price was reasonable. The room and beds were a good size and comfortable. The blankets were a bit warm compared to the warm room. The corridor in front of our room was very warm, and the room itself also. We tried to sleep with the window open, but in front of the window was some loud sound due to an airconditioning or similar. Otherwise our room was nice and quiet. We were unlucky that the firealarm went off twice during the night. We got no information what to do, like "Please go outside." or similar. Also we got no information, that we can go back to our room. So we waited a bit too long, before we could asked someone of the staff and could go back to sleep again. Clearer information during firealarm situations would help to know what to do and when it is allowed to turn back into the rooms. Based on our experience we would still come again.

The typical “I give 1 star because I can’t give 0” review. This hostel lacked everything to make it a pleasant stay: professionalism, empathy and working ammenities. 1- Got put in a room with the worst snorer, not the hostel’s fault, but when asked to change rooms to another for just one night we were charged extra. Besides, it was on the third floor, with elevators not working until our last night (five days total to fix the problem) and poor wifi connection. 2- During our extra night in another room, the showers all stopped working for over 24 hours. Basic amenities in any facility somehow didn’t seem to be maintained to a working standard. 3- The hostel doesn’t have a shared kitchen but has a « restaurant » except, we had to wait over 50 minutes for one portion of fries and when they did get there it became clear they were inedible, and the ketchup was out of date. When asking for answers we were received with an attitude and a poor attempt to fix the fries by putting the already inedible fries in the oven. Once it became apparent it wasn’t going to work, we asked for lasagna instead but it came with a side of hair. Honestly we could have forgiven the poor service and lack of amenities if it didn’t came with the attitude of the kitchen staff who didn’t take any accountability, didn’t show any empathy and eventually said “what do you expect? It’s an hostel”. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to describe it, so if you are looking for a pleasant & stress-free stay in London look elsewhere, plenty of nice hostels in London that will make your stay memorable for all the right reasons!

I want my money back. I was charged twice for the same booking due to shoddy computer systems. This hotel risked a homeless vulnerable young girl having to spend another night outside because of poor systems. What if there was not another £63 to pay again? £63 is alot of money to make somebody pay twice for a fault that lies with the hotel. To then be told if I don't pay again the customer has to go back outside and be homeless because safe stays computer system is not fit for purpose. I now have to 'prove' I was charged twice and there still is a chance of not getting my money back I have been told. Disgusting. Just to highlight as the manager has responded telling lies. I was not refunded the next day I had to go back twice in person the next day after the booking was made and argue and prove the money had actually left my account so i have edited my star review to account for the incompetence we all just witnessed
