I enjoyed my stay at the Tavistock. No, the rooms are not air conditioned. Be warned if traveling during warmer months but the temps during my visit were just right and I enjoyed my open windows overlooking Tavistock Gardens. The room was clean and adequate, tho' small but given the price point for London, I was content. The hotel was especially well located for my travel plans and having a bar downstairs was a plus. The staff was attentive and helpful.

We stayed on Saturday night. Location is great. The room was small but clean. Our room was opposite the cleaning cupboard, we thought nothing of this until about 0600 when the cleaners came on. They were loud and noisy, with no consideration of guests at all. The walls are paper thin. When asked about our stay we complained to the receptionist. Who told us we should have come down and swapped rooms..at 0600.... We explained the time this happened and she just looked disinterested and left us feeling annoyed and tired. We had hoped to feel relaxed after a first night away in years from children but this wasn't to be. We had to leave as we had a train to catch. Im left feeling disappointed having spent £133.

My wife and I stayed last night. Arrived early after flying all night from the US. They were able to provide us with an early check in for an extra 20 pounds after some begging which was appreciated. Our room was on the top floor. Easily 85 degrees in the room and no AC! A small fan is provided and the windows open slightly. The electricity in the room is sketchy. Two outlets only and they worked sporadically. The only real positive is the staff. They are very professional and courteous.

Nice hotel, only a 10 minute walk from Euston Station, with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel also has a restaurant, but I didn't eat there. When the app to open my room didn't work, the receptionist was very helpful. It was very quiet and I didn't hear anything from any other guests. There was traffic noise but as I slept with the window open, that's to be expected. I would have rated the room higher if there were plug sockets by the bed and the light switches were either central or on both sides of the bed. Apart from that, the room was big, the bed was comfortable, and there was a hospitality tray with tea, coffee, and milk.

Staying on the 8th floor. Room is like a sauna. The weather outside is beautiful- but the room inside feels like a heat death trap. It’s SO hot and there’s no way to fix it. Even with the window open, it only opens about an inch and doesn’t let air in at all. Not sure how anyone can stay here. Horrible stay on my first day in Europe. I’ve stayed in plenty of places with no AC before - none come close to being this hot. Do not stay here! Not sure how I’ll even sleep tonight without getting heat stroke. Had to buy a bag of ice to keep me cool. Also no outlets - had to unplug the TV to have an outlet. Terrible.

Great condition and decor throughout. Rooms comfortable and reception staff top drawer! But please change the hotel name-sign above the main door! It looks cheap and is not a good advert for a really decent hotel

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel in January and this was a good choice! I compared many other hotels in the center, and this hotel was perfect for the location and price! Bus stops across the road were convenient, and Russel square train station were also nearby. The room was cosy and very warm, we had a great view of the park, however I will suggest bringing some earplugs if you are noise sensible at night. We had some drinks and a salad at the restaurant and we recommend it, the barmaid and the waiter were friendly and professional. The check in (with Maria who was nice) and the check out was very easy, and quick. Thank you!

My experience at Tavistock Hotel was nothing short of fantastic! The early check-in option proved invaluable, considering our early morning arrival. The room, though not overly spacious, was impeccably clean, modern, and well-maintained, featuring a delightful bathtub and quality towels. Unfortunately, a health emergency required an ambulance, and the night porter went above and beyond, showing genuine concern and assistance. The two gentlemen working at the hotel were also incredibly supportive, consistently checking in on us and helping with the emergency number, given our unfamiliarity with England. The hotel truly deserves praise for their outstanding service. Additionally, they generously granted us a late checkout, allowing us to rest before our flight, especially considering the health situation. I'm highly appreciative of this excellent and welcoming hotel. Everything, from the service to the breakfast, was exceptional

This must have been a really high end hotel right in the city center and in front of a parc. It is now renovated and the location is still perfect. It is nice to have a decent size bathroom with a bath tub. Of course you will be limited as there is only one electrical socket and no air conditioning but you just have to ask the friendly stall for an extra socket if you plan to use anything else than the provided electric fan.

Breakfast was good and the breakfast room was pleasant. The bed in room 830 was comfortable. I'm tall but I was there on my own so I could sleep diagonally. The room was dated. And it wasn't that large. The windows only opened a fraction. I was there across a February heat wave so that maybe explains why the room was so hot. I turned the radiator off which did improve things. Nevertheless, I was barely able to get the room cool even at night when temperatures outside were down to say 8-10 degrees. The bathroom, though dated, was clean and functional. I slept well although I woke early with the heat. The hotel is a reasonable price for London, however, hence my rating.

The location is very convenient to the bus line and a couple minute walk from the Russel Square line. The lobby is nice and there is a large bar and breakfast area. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had one of the inner rooms, so there was no views of the streets, just the roof of a lower level of another building. I was also a bit annoyed that there were no power jacks by the beds that I could find. There was also a bunch of noise, which was odd considering we were not facing the streets, but I believe it was music and other noises from the bowling alley which is under the hotel (we were on the third floor). But I slept fine, and the hotel was clean, and I think I would stay here again for the price point.

The staff here were all so extremely kind and helpful, making it a welcoming stay. It was also in a quiet location but in walking distance to a few stations which made travel easy However, the fact there is no air conditioning here made this stay unbearable. The rooms were like saunas and so much hotter than outside. We found ourselves spending most time in the park across the road for some relief. There’s also only 2 power plugs available, so charging stuff was impossible. If it wasn’t for the service of the staff this would have been terrible.

Reasonably priced hotel in the heart of Bloomsbury. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. I'd prefer a larger shower head but that is a fairly minor concern. Accessible and within walking distance of where I needed to be.

Exceptional stay at Tavistock Hotel! We were allowed an early check-in, which was incredibly convenient as we arrived in the morning. The room, while not overly spacious, was clean, modern, and well-kept. The bathroom featured a lovely bathtub and plush towels. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen health circumstances, we required an ambulance. The night porter went above and beyond to assist us, expressing genuine concern. The two gentlemen working at the hotel were also incredibly helpful, offering support and aiding us with the emergency number as we are not familiar with the UK. Truly a top-notch hotel. They even granted us a late checkout for much-needed rest before our flight, given the health situation. I'm highly impressed with this excellent and hospitable hotel. Everything, from the service to the breakfast, was outstanding.

Nice hotel, but nothing special. Rooms are very clean, everything in good working order, but very basic. Pillows could be more comfortable, but the bed was comfortable enough for a good sleep. Check in and check out was easy, staff polite and helpful. Would stay here again, but for the price there are nicer hotels in area.

God awful place. No air conditioning in rooms but that is fine usually for hotel rooms. But this room was the hottest, grossest room I’ve ever stayed in and I am unfortunately not exaggerating. It was a sauna from start to finish. There was MOLD and BUGS everywhere. The “clean” towels they gave us each day smelled like eggs!!!! There were people banging doors all night long and when I told reception they said sorry and nothing else happened. When I checked out, I said it was the worst experience I had and the lady at the front simply said sorry and logged my complaint on a piece of paper and as my wife and I left laughed at us. Totally garbage place that shouldn’t be more than £20 a night. I will be disputing this with my credit card company. It’s a health department nightmare. Stay here if you love hot, sticky, outdated hotels that won’t install any air conditioning and doesn’t even clean anything. Oh, and if you fancy a side order of mold and bugs, you’re also in the right place.

We had a fantastic time at the hotel, excellent in every way. Perfect cleanliness, facilities, and incredibly pleasant and efficient staff – the best part of it all. The location is also very good; if we return to London, it will be our first choice.

Happily got checked in early... love the clean modern foyer.. Then up to the room, very very dated, had a strong odour of sewerage... rang reception for teabags, and they asked us to go to reception and get them, didn't offer to drop to the room... bad service there... breakfast buffet was very good though.

Art Deco Hotel in great location. Lovely cosy bar and room was clean and comfortable. A bit of noise from construction work in the road outside but not too intrusive. Didn't eat here so can't comment on food. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed in this hotel many a time and it never disappoints me. What a lovely hotel and great location with everything you need to do in London is easily accessible.. All the staff were very friendly and multilingual with a very special thanks to Night Manager Francis who goes all the way to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable. He always deals so politely, humbly with a smile all the time. He is real an asset to the place.. The bar was excellent and had a dinner in the poppadum too very delicious and fresh. Breakfast buffet as usual very nice and plenty of choice. Very clean and tidy hotel. will always stay here without a doubt and recommend strongly to everyone coming over to London.

Tavistock Hotel is a very central, clean hotel with a very polite and helpful staff, near to a bus and underground station. The breakfast was tasteful. The only bad thing was the room that was a little bit small, had the basic equipment and there were no drawers.

Really smart hotel and location perfect for my needs. Just be aware that not many seats in the bar/brunch bar area though the staff where very quick with turn around and managed to get me a table. If you do get a table hang on to it because they will go fast and not catered for the solo traveler on business. If you want a room with less noise stay away from first floor as you will get the noise of people coming and going at the entrance of the hotel. Overall a pleasant stay for one night on business and the staff are very helpful.

Chose this hotel on a carers website and got to say I'm so glad I did, the only downside was it was a fair walk from the tube station but that's more because I have issues walking far due to my own health, the room I was in on the third floor had an amazing view of a park that was really pretty, and considering where it was it was pretty quiet too, it only became noisy when the windows were open which was in the mornings, good breakfast options also, very friendly staff and always willing to help when I needed it, my only qualm was the massive mirror in the room as I couldn't sleep properly as mirrors for me can be creepy when you are in a strange place by yourself, that's just my opinion though lol, thank you for a great stay and would happily book again 😀

Our second stay at this gorgeous art deco hotel. Rooms comfortable, if a little warm, but I guess all city centre hotel rooms are if there's no air conditioning! Two fans in the room kept us cool through the night. Reception staff fantastic, couldn't do enough for us, including hanging onto our luggage after we'd checked out so we could do a bit more sight seeing before catching the train. Breakfast buffet plentiful, well stocked and the cooked food was delicious. Awesome cocktails in the bar too, highly recommend the passion fruit martini! Will definitely return.

The Tavistock Hotel is a budget hotel in a great location in central London. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, and the hotel has a jar to fill water bottles in the restaurant. The air conditioning in the reception area is very effective, but the rooms are not air conditioned. This was a surprise to me, as I am from the USA and I assumed that all hotels in London would have air conditioning. The room was very warm, even at night, and the table fan provided was not very effective. The bed was also quite small and uncomfortable. Overall, I was disappointed with the Tavistock Hotel. The location is great, but the rooms are not air conditioned and the beds are not comfortable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in London. Here are some specific things you can mention in your review: * The location of the hotel is great, close to many attractions and public transportation. * The reception staff was very welcoming and helpful. * The hotel has a jar to fill water bottles in the restaurant, which is a nice touch. * The rooms are not air conditioned, which was a surprise to me and made the room very uncomfortable. * The bed was quite small and uncomfortable. I hope this helps!

Comfortable bed, good sized room for 1 night's stay, had breakfast included, didn't really like it but personal choice! There's a humming noise constantly in the hotel room and at night a bright light was on outside my window all night, curtains did nothing to block this, I slept well when I did get over but if you are a light sleeper would check what room you will be in before staying!

Great location, small bathrooms, poor quality hairdryers so had to buy one locally but very clean with good beds and linens. The rooms can be quite stuffy in warm or mild weather..would not stay in warmer months.

I stayed in this hotel during the weekend of the epiphany, for three nights and four days. The room offers all possible comforts. The only note is the not very comfortable mattress and the noise coming from the road, given by the traffic and the sound of the sirens of fire trucks and ambulances. Despite this, I found myself very well. The clean room, excellent breakfast service (really plentiful and good), excellent location of the hotel, two blocks from the Russel Square metro stop. Friendly and helpful staff. I highly recommend.

The service and location were excellent, but the rooms are horrible! They are very, VERY small. The windows open about 2 inches and the heat is unbearable. Although it is only 67/19 outside, the room is around 95/32. They put a small fan in the room that only blow air about 5 inches ( literally 5 inches). I had to take cold showers just to fall asleep. Tiles are falling off in the bathroom. Service and location DOES NOT compensate for horrid discomfort. Rooms are available everywhere that are better appointed and less expensive.

Perfectly okay hotel. Really nice staff, and if you get the right side of the hotel the view is quite good. Rooms could do with a bit of an update, and the breakfast isn't fantastic, but it serves its purpose and is really decent for the price. The lobby/lounge/restaurant is really nice and well decorated, and you get a meal at an affiliated restaurant free with your booking if I recall. I'll likely be staying there again, definitely didn't hate it.

Security there are quite Cynnical especially if you're a person of color. Do yourself a favor don't walk in there black! better you ask to use the facilities ( if they allow you) and change into White. They will now be able to engage you without feeling uncomfortable or threatened. Welcome to Tavistock Hotel.

I will stay here again. For a good price, the rooms are compact, clean and nicely decorated. The beds and pillows were comfortable too. We were delighted that somehow there was enough storage for the luggage of 3 people staying for 3 nights. It's worth getting a cooked breakfast included as they are good. The staff everywhere in the hotel were genuinely friendly and helpful.

  • 4/5 Margaret K. 4 years ago on Google
The hotel is well placed for reaching many attractions in London. The rooms were clean and adequate for a short stay. We had a room that looked out over the square with its trees and gardens. The breakfast was fresh cooked served in a buffet style but there were plenty of staff to provide assistance. The choice was restricted but there was enough to suite most people's choices. I would say that this is a good choice if you want to stay in London's centre.

  • 5/5 stephen l. 4 years ago on Google
Excellent location, perfect for a two-night stay and the staff were absolutely wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the beds were also very comfortable. I would recommend this place all day long for people who want to be within a reasonable distance to areas such as King's Cross, Camden, Leicester Square and Holborn.

Good location, half decent food, friendly staff…. All let down by an insane level of heat on the upper floors. I’m on floor 8. I’d estimate my room to have been around 30 degrees up until a few hours after sun down. It’s 12am and I’m still boiling Alive. The road noise is insane but can’t have the window shut. (Side note the two small windows In my room have a lock on and let a slither of air in) (no air con). I was going to call reception and ask if I could relocate to a lower room, however from reviews it appears there is a noise issue there from the adjoining bowling alley and club. The “bed” is one step away from being a camp bed. It’s very low down and feels like it’s folding in on itself. I can feel every spring. Bathroom stinks, of what I don’t know. It’s a strong paint or chemical smell. The bathroom sink and bath metal is quite rusted, leaving rusty brown water streaking down the sink. Unless I’m being very blind there is one electric outlet here meaning I need to choose between charging my phone/work laptop and the fan. I don’t think I’d return unfortunately.

A decent hotel in a great location. The rooms are pleasant and provide everything that you will need when staying in London. The hotel is ideally located for anyone wanting to visit Soho or Leicester Square without being directly in them and is easily accessible from the underground system.

Good location and good hot and continental breakfast options. Beds weren't the best and no room based temperature control. Water pressure was great in the shower. Service was good!

Ideal location for visiting points of interests. Loved the atmosphere, the feel of the hotel, the decor, cleaning standards. Food & drinks at reasonable prices and breakfast is an absolute feast. Highly recommend. X

Not a bad place to stay for London but the service on the follow up is really poor. I have been trying to get an invoice for 2 weeks sent two emails after they tell you on the phone they can’t do it via the phone. Heard nothing the reservations department tell me they have forwarded my request twice to the hotel reception still received nothing. Spoke with reception finally and they took my details said they would get it to me 48 hours still nothing. Quite shocking to be fair. So be warned.

Very overpriced for the dated rooms, and the service was less than adequate. Did not allow transfer of calls when friends phoned in to talk to us during our stay. The beds were made but the sheets were never changed. Carpet was thread bare and dirty. Breakfast was not included. The Restaurant Menu had very limited options and the food was quite deplorable. Room Service didn't exist, you had to go down and retrieve food from the restaurant if you could stomach it. They had a broken ATM cash machine in the lobby which was very inconvenient. Three people staying in one room they would only give two rolls of toilet paper at a time. Quite disappointing. Staff was nice and helpful but unfortunately it didn't make up for what it lacked.

The biggest thank you to Francis, Jennifer and Samantha. Who made my Grandma feel so welcomed and enjoy her stay. The team are always friend and went over and beyond to help accommodate a last minute booking and changed her room to suit her needs. This hotel is in the heart of London so great places to explore.

Some of the rooms are a little tired but spotlessly clean and bathroom had been refurbished. Also provided organic, cruelty free shower gel and shampoo which smelt divine. Staff could not be more friendly/helpful and although we didn't eat there the Indian restaurant within the hotel looked and smelt amazing. Very good value for money and will definitely stay here again.

Great experience at this beautiful hotel/institution in the heart of London. Close to British museum and many attractions. On the basement there is a Old school bowling alley with great parties. Thanks to receptionist team to arrange a beautiful room for us.

  • 1/5 Ken Y. 1 year ago on Google
This hotel could be a 5/5 if it wasn’t for 1 extremely irritating thing which ruins the experience 1. The showers only have a tiny screen. Whenever i shower water gets all over the bathroom and forms a massive puddle on the floor and soaks the walls. It is totally ridiculous. It is a design trying to be chic, but it’s just dumb. There are also other issues such as no air conditioning and only 2 outlets in a clumsy location, but that is common for budget UK hotels.

We visited London and stayed at this hotel for a night. Check in and out went smoothly. The concierge was always friendly and without paying a penny we could borrow an adapter for our charger. (Travelled from Germany) One thing to improve: Please upgrade our beds. I think they could be a bit more comfy but for just one night it was okay. Thank you once again for having us as guests - for such a decent price in a good location! ☺️

Nice clean comfy room overlooking Tavistock Square, we decided to have breakfast delivered to our room but it was 4 very hard boiled eggs with shell on, a plate of bacon and a load of bread, not what we was expecting so next time if we stay here we will have to go down with our hangovers for a better breakfast ,apart from that we very much enjoyed our stay here ,it was a great location for going to watch les mis

My sister and I just stayed here for 10 days. The hotel and room was very clean, the reception staff friendly and courteous. We ate in the bar twice and both times enjoyed our meal. This hotel is in a great location. We walked to Covent Garden and to Trafalgar Square quite easily. Russell Square underground is only a 3 minute walk. Our twin room was more than adequate for us, and Housekeeping were very quick to respond to our request one night for more tea bags. The beds were comfortable and we overlooked Tavistock Square which was lovely. The bathroom was small but was scrupulously clean. The room was quite warm, which was lovely after a day out in the rain, and at night we just opened a window. I’d definitely stay here again.

Hotel was great location, clean, good base, friendly staff and very good breakfast. My only drawback our room was located on 3rd floor directly above the entrance / exit for a club that is located in the basement (not affiliated with the hotel), our window had a large crack in it that had sellotape over it, all the noise from the street below to enter the room like they were sat next to us. Was really loud so got minimal sleep for the night. Window needs to be fixed or upgraded to triple glazing.
