Walked into reception and greeted by the smell of cigarette smoke and what looked like a horror movie front counter. I was given my key and told that I was in an annexe just up the road. 6 flights of stairs later and I was in my room. Tiny tv, red hot, grubby bathroom. This is the kind if hotel that I would only stay in again if every other hotel in London was closed. Only up side was that the bed was very comfortable but the pillows were hard. The location is good........before it gets dark and the view of the Kings Cross architecture is outstanding.

Totally no frills. But the bed was good. Room was clean. For a place to stash your gear and explore the city the price was right. I had an 3rd floor walk-up room and the stairs are a little steep and narrow. But overall a worthwhile stay.

Unclean, very humid and hot rooms (even during cooler weather). We were on the basement floor without proper ventilation and therefore the room smelt mouldy and dank. Wifi was unreliable. All of this would have been excusable for the price, however… One morning we discovered chew marks on chocolates we had bought! The next morning we were awoken by clear rustling in the room. There is no doubt in our minds that there is a mouse problem at this hotel. When mentioned to staff, they were dismissive and without sympathy, let alone consideration of a refund or compensation. They told us to bring it up at checkout but we received the same response from those staff. Totally unimpressed with our experience here- obviously this is a 2 star hotel but we didn’t think that a mouse-free room was too much to ask!

It's difficult for me believe that there are still people that see 2 star prices but expect 5 star quality & that is apparent in too many of the reviews, some of which are hardly recent reviews. There is currently no free breakfast but that's no problem because just around the corner at Cafe Plaka, there is a great quality/price menu that's quite extensive. The KFC is around the corner too, with good quality & service but avoid Five Guys if you like to get your money's worth. They are the only places we ate at in the area. The Google street view pictures are far from recent, so don't let that put you off. The cleanliness of the hotel is really quite good & in fairness the hotel cannot be held responsible for guests that throw things on the floor of a corridor instead of the waste bin in their rooms. The cleaning staff cannot be held responsible if guests are expecting the staff to wait indefinitely until they leave their rooms 24/7. ALL of the staff have impeccable manners, which at times I found miraculous. It's location is a bonus in the fact that it is so close a major transport hub to London & the U.K. In the real world, you get what you pay for, so there is no swimming pool or spa.

I should have read other reviews myself before booking. Location is good but only stay if you have no other option. Myself and my partner had a basement room that smelled like mold and cigarettes. We had roaches in the bathroom and the staff we encountered were “shady” at best.

It was a lot better than I expected, the rooms were not the cleanest and there was some dust but other than that bed sheets were clean, I had low expectations due to the good location and price. I was expecting the room to be smaller and less spacious however it was much bigger than I expected and there was enough room for me and my wife. The shower was nice and hot and good. The lady at the reception was nice she allowed me to drop the stuff off earlier. I can't complain as it was for one night and done the job.

Basic, good value, great location. he Carlton Hotel is far from luxurious, but it has a lift, a shower a bed, a chair and a close approximation of a work desk. All for less than £100 and within five minutes walk of Kings Cross station. I would unhesitatingly recommend it.

AVOID! All of the below issues were brought to the attention of the Hotel staff but nothing was done. 1) There was no lift (lift was broken) so we had to carry our heavy luggage up 4 narrow flights of stairs. We were advised that the lifts were only recently broken however I see on other Google reviews that this has happened on different occasions before . Food scapes were left on the ground which could have resulted in slipping on the mess ( see photo) , luckily a hotel staff member helped us with our heavy luggage when checking out 2) There was a noisy humming sound in our room which went on & off at random times during the day & night which made it hard to sleep. 3) The shower had barely any running water. It was barely a trickle which made washing hair impossible and having a shower not good. I tried to adjust the pressure but it barely made any difference. 4) There was no fridge in the room although a fridge was advertised ( see the Hotel’s web page) 5) The room was very hot and stuffy. Some air-conditioning would have worked wonders. The cheap plastic fan didn’t help much. I complained to management but they claimed I had nothing to complain about NEVER AGAIN , We paid good money to stay here. The Carlton Hotel needs to lift its game

Carlton Hotel in London exceeded my expectations with its excellent accommodations that come at a surprisingly affordable price. The rooms were not only well-appointed but also offered a level of comfort and cleanliness that one might expect from a more expensive establishment. The hotel's commitment to providing quality service without breaking the bank makes it a standout choice for budget-conscious travellers looking for a pleasant and cost-effective stay near the heart of London.

Good for location a little run down, but clean and across road from st Pancras and kings cross station. Noisy and curtains way to light for position, bring eye mask for sleeping. Price a little expensive and wouldn't want to pay more than I did. Reception staff really friendly and great at customer service.

The location was the best part about this place. The price of £105 for a double room in Central London should and would be the warning. The hotel was rundown and decor very tired. We were checked in quickly by the staff and then led through what seemed a back alley to a dark staircase and told to go to the third floor.... The stairs went on forever and when we reached our room it was clean and tidy, but small, very small... There is a tiny TV and a mini fridge, wardrobe and of course the double bed. The bathroom and shower is nothing short of a broom cupboard. Two people cant go in the bathroom together and it's a difficulty sitting on the toilet as the sink is in your way. It's a kind of twist to the side! I'd recommend it for what it is a cheap overnight stop before moving on, don't stay for more than a night unless your doing London on the cheap....

First single lady or a guy in solo should definitely avoid this hostel. As you cannot lock the room at all and the staff said it's safe which I believe not so. I should had read the review before I book. The Google map information is obviously a scam which say it's a 4 stars hotel in fact it's a 1 star hostel not any where meet the conditions as a hotel. The room is super tiny you just regret to book it. They charged me a few days ago before even I check in. Staff are not helpful at all. I was just told to get to my room and ended up searching for my small room around 4 times up and down the stairs. After I spent 15 mins, I gave up and head back to reception. Inside the room there is no hair dryer, no air conditioning and just some very old furnitures which I believe the decor is 50's or 60's. The owner doesn't care obviously with the so called TV is just as small as the size of an ipad and not working. The reception guy said they will change it tomorrow. Shower room is old and small too only thin people can cram in. Stairs carpet are obviously old as well and cannot and fit in a chubby and bulky person with even small luggage. Rooms are obviously over priced and adding a tenner to book somewhere will save you a lot of troubles and harrsal. Definitely not recommended with large luggage. The window cannot be opened and I am obviously drenched just bringing my luggage up and down the narrow stairs. Location is good but you can have other choices instead of this unsafe hostel.

I'm surprised at so many very negative reviews. I regularly stay in hotels ranging from budget to fairly expensive and this one is adequate for the modest price and location. Staff were cooperative and polite. My room was a bit awkward to get to and the bathroom was rather small but the room was clean, the facilties were all properly functional and I had no disturbances over three days. There was a small fridge in my room too which was great. The television was small but the controls and channels were fine. For around £75 per night which included Friday and Saturday, I have no major complaints. Instant check in too. The stairs wouldn't be suitable for some people. I did not notice any smoke smell. Maybe I was lucky but my experience was a good.

Rooms are basic but clean enough. The hotel is very well located to explore London. It was a little noisy, particularly at night and early mornings. You're paying for location, not for any frills.

Not a bad place to stay. No frills and as basic as can be but also decent rooms and friendly staff. I stayed here after missing a train to rest up until the next one and it was perfect for that.

Rooms are very small, drinking water is not available. Lift is very small one person can enter at a time. The bathroom is too tiny. Monitor is a TV. The only good thing is that the kings cross station. Hotel cost is too as per their services. Very Bad experience. Not recommended at all.

Cockroaches in the room. A lot of noise from downstairs. It is old. Don’t do it. Choose an other hotel. Only location is nice.

We stayed for 2 nights on a short break. The room was very small but comfortable enough and seemed perfectly clean. 10 mins walk to Victoria (tube/rail/coach/restaurants/shops) and walkable to many other areas if you've got a bit more stamina. Other people have complained about value for money but if you can find anywhere in London cheaper than this (we paid just over £70 per night), I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be as good. Only 2 small gripes. The wi-fi was extra cost (£5 regardless of length of stay) and our radiator was stuck on full so we had to have the window open.

I can't believe it. This is the worst place I've stayed in. Walking through to your room, everything is tiled so it feels like the swimming baths. Inside the room it feels like a caravan with 50's furniture. Staff are friendly. Rooms are tiny. WiFi not working. Heating broken. Bathroom put together by someone with as much interior decoration skill as me. 2 towels for 4 people. TV is no bigger than an iPad (seriously). Beds are comfy and clean. Can't fault the location if you don't mind noise from Kings Cross life. Kettle is clean. You're paying for the location.

1 complaint. The bed was really stiff. Aside from that, the staff was kind. Literally had all I need throughout the day. But the location, the location is the key selling point. In the center of every. 3 minute walk to the trains, both local and international. Would I come back? Without hesitation.

Small room, but we only wanted to use it os a base to sleep in and go to London from there. Clean and hot water was great. Close to fabulous restaurants and also the kings cross station so we could get where we wanted easily. Also close to the stop for the hop on and hop off bus. Staff were friendly and we had no problems at all, thank you

I think I saw the worst hotel already, but this one is definitely the winner. Staff is friendly - no complaints at all, rooms are very small, furniture is from SSSR time. 4 persons, only 2 towels, heating is not working, WIFI is not working, TV is smaller than your hand. The only thing that saving this hotel is really nice and convenient location, other than that is absolutely horrible. I will not complain it beacuse thats what I want to be in the center of London, but still.

I needed one night in London before catching a Eurostar, so I needed a hotel near Kings Cross/ St Pancras. The hotel was near both, check in was 14:00. My room was nice, clean. The bed was confortable, & I had a good night sleep. The bathroom was small but nice, & the hot water really hot. On the whole it was value for money.

Avoid this place. Worse place i have ever stayed at and i've stayed in some really sketchy places. Location is great if you want to be in the center of crackhead central. You're better off sleeping at the airport. Wouldn't recommend.

  • 2/5 Rafael Ruiz B. 1 year ago on Google
Overpriced, not even including breakfast. The "clean water" tap was locked, which made us feel very uneasy about drinking the other water. The boiler was.. nasty, it didn't look like it was cleaned in a very long time. The room's ventilation was a joke, the window could barely be opened to reduce condensation. The end result was we were drenched in sweat overnight and thirsty

As a woman staying by my self for two nights I can honestly say I was terrified! I was in London for business so didn’t want to venture far from the station. Location was fantastic! Room smelt heavily of cigarette smoke, curtains were hanging off at the corners which not only did I hit want to touch them because they were absolutely filthy but they were hard to close from the busy road!! Bed creaked just sitting on it. Floor never been mopped, bedside cabinets were chipped so badly down to the chip board. All sides were filthy! I was mortified!! Bed sheets were clean however and toilet clean. Half a toilet roll in a double room!! Windowsills disgusting, and I didn’t feel safe going to sleep at night…. Enough to say I moved furniture so no one could come in! Avoid at all costs

Service at the front is disgusting, the guy from the front desk came into our rooms without knocking or notifying us of what he was even coming in for. He must have thought we were not in there. NOT SAFE, DO NOT RECOMMEND. The rooms smell of bad odours and mattress in rooms made my boyfriend itchy with spots, went to the doctors and it was bed bugs

I agree this is an appaling hotel with everything you can ghink of wrong. The worst thing though is the aggressive and unfriendly staff with a terrible attitude. I thought maybe it was just me until i looked at the reviews on here. Stay in the Premier Inn on York way instead 1000 % better.

It’s 01:00 and I am sitting here in the triple room literally with water in my eyes. The guy in the front desk insulted me in front of my guests using the f word. The guy was so rude and was about to hit me. Both of my friends left saying that the hotel is not safe to stay. They went to stay somewhere else at this time (00:30) after midnight. I am feeling so humiliated and depressed. I booked the room for my friends who came from Barcelona but they didn’t stay here feeling unsafe. The hotel overall is miserable and looks haunted. I along with my old friends was very happy today unless I met this wretched creature sitting in the front desk acting as god. The people have so many issues in their miserable and unhappy lives. When they see someone happy, they become jealous and then intentionally or unintentionally try to spoil the happy moments of others. This person who was sitting at the front desk of this hotel must be suffering from a filthy and unhappy miserable life. When he saw us happy and laughing entering in the hotel, he became jealous and realise his own miserable life. He then spoiled our life. It’s around 01:12 and my friends, who could not find any room in any hotel, Called me and said that they are going to Uxbridge to stay at some friends place. There is no train outside and the bus will take more than one and half hour to reach there. Basically their night is destroyed.

Room stank of cigarettes. Parts of hotel more so. Bathroom too cramped to actually use. Paper thin walls, machine noise and water noise through night. Shower a dribble. If you're on a budget, maybe go here. If you can afford a few quid more, do yourself a favour.

I was a bit dubious after reading reviews but have no complaints at all.for a solo traveler for a few nights it was perfect.no wardrobe but some hooks and hangers where you can hang your things and a chest of drawer plus a en-suite bathroom.superb value for money, excellent location and felt perfectly safe even though some reviews said they didn't.would defo stay again next time in london

The Golden Mile located at Unnamed Road refers to a series of coastal beaches near the Carlton Hotel, Dublin Airport, a four-star hotel. With soft sand and wide area, it is very suitable for surfing and other water sports. There is also a swimming pool for children nearby, and restaurants with bars of various grades are built around, which is a good place for vacation and leisure.

Believe me, if I could put a 0 instead of a 1, I would. The one pro of this place is the location. That’s it. From only have 1 pillow per person, to the rock hard beds. From the A4 paper sized TV, to the unreliable and untrustworthy elevator. From the wifi popping up as “weak security”, to the lack of convenient plug sockets. From both the desk and bathroom shelf being wonky, to the no toilet roll holder in the bathroom. Also just terrible water pressure all round. The real kick in the teeth was that the unfriendly staff (which is most people working there) debated with us whether or not we even had a booking and made us wait 30 minutes in the lobby. I guess their outdated paper and pen system is unreliable. Overall, only stay here if you’re planning to spend a max 1 conscious hour in the room, or if you want severe spinal or neck pain, or you can’t find a good tent and plot on the pavement to stay the night instead.

Extremely unhygienic , hair and "residue" all over the room , the property is situated next to rehab facility which meant I was constantly asked for money during my stay & the prices are extremely high for such poor quality of service , Never Again !!! disgusting

Smell of cigaret in the room Poor to no loghting in the rooms The tightest bathroom I’ve experienced so far Very noisy as it is located above a street with lots of traffic I would not recommend staying in this establishment

We started our trip in London and checked into this hotel. We would rate it 1 star, however, the location was amazing. Right beside the train stations, as well as many shops/cafes close by. That being said, the street the hotel is on does attract an unwanted crowd (was brutally woken up at 2am by a man yelling until 4am), especially while on holiday. If you are travelling midst the heatwave there is a fridge and fan in the room, complete life savers. The room itself was decent. Shower and floor was dirty, and the staff weren’t very friendly.

We managed to get a room at 1am so I can't complain really! It had a bed and a bathroom and coffee making facilities for the morning. There were stains on the towels but everything was clean, and check out wasn't until eleven which was good. It did the job for the night, and is in a Greta location. It was £100 for the night (well, rest of the morning!), but I guess that's London prices for you!

  • 1/5 Oluwatosin O. 1 year ago on Google
This is the most horrible hotel I have ever been in England. The hotel management are greedy and can't be trusted, they realised that trains were being cancelled on July 19th due to heat wave, as a result, inflated their prices three fold and a quarter. Also, the services were really poor, only a table fan for a double suite that was meant for two adults and a child. In addition, there was no phone to contact reception, no fridge in the room. The elevator is extremely small. I definitely wished I hadn't lodged there. Check the picture and see the fan provided during heat wave of 39°C.

Terrible room. Door to bathroom didn't open cos bed was in way so make sure you're a size 10 or smaller or u won't fit. Also TV didn't work and no extra pillows on offer. Rubbish. Don't go there.

  • 1/5 Naomi D. 1 year ago on Google
Careful with your reservation. We had booked a room for a few days, we got the email saying "reservation paid and confirmed". When we got there they had sold the room because the payment didn't go throught. Nobody checked with us they just cancelled, the lady at the counter was so rude and simply unbothered by the whole situation. Cannot say much about the rooms but the place seemed filthy.

Only book if you have no other choice! Seriously. I didn't consider the reviews that came before me and I did regret it instantly. This hotel isn't worth the money you pay for it, unless you have to reach a very early train. I could choose between a room in 2nd floor or basement. Due to the lift not working and having heavy luggage with me, I decided to take the basement room. Worst decision I had made on my whole trip! The room was damp and smelled of mould. I am not sure if the coating on the curtains was dust or actual mould. The furniture is old and almost falling apart. So is the bathroom. At least the water temperature and pressure were reasonably good. The window could only be opened with some improvisation. The downside of the fresh air: because of the location, it was terribly noisy all night (tube and loud nightlife, even on Sunday, the walls outside the window amplified the noise), so much so that neither earplugs nor headphones helped. One star for the receptionist who was helpful and helped me with the wifi that wasn't working. All in all, more of a low-budget hostel than a hotel, and not worth the money.
