A great hostel of the PubLove chain, very good location and affordable prices. The rooms are clean and cleaned daily. The pub have a good selection of beers, gin, vine, coffee and tea. Have to try their tasty variety of burgers. If something can be mentioned as a con it would be the toilets need more attention to tiding up especially at morning.

I will give this hostel the benefit of the doubt, because I slept well, the price was reasonable and the staff was very friendly. Also very good shower! But it was not the best accommodation I've seen. The room was extremely warm. There was a fan, but it would be too noisy to leave it on at night. It was also the first time I saw a hotel bedroom with a hand drying machine in the bathroom, instead of towels. Not so hygienic, I used a bath towel instead. The sheets were too small for the double bed, which was not so comfortable sleeping. There was a small basket in the room. We assumed it was a bin. And the bin in the bathroom was still completely full with other people's trash. I must say that there was not so much noise from the other rooms, or the street at night. Location is great.

Hostel Review: I stayed one night at this hostel and had high hopes. But unfortunately it wasn't as good as expected. The Staff: Not to much of their fault, but they are much more concerned with the restaurant and bar then the hostel guests and the guests seem to inconvenience them more than anything. Definitely not the type of staff like at most hostels who are going to go out of their way to give you tips or help you have a good time. Vibes: Probably one of the worst hostels I've stayed at for this. The only common area is the bar itself which is open to the public. Thus it can be quite difficult to distinguish who is staying at the hostel and the staff doesn't do much to help people meet each other. By the end of the night it's seemingly hostel guests all sitting alone at tables unsure who is acutally staying there. You also don't get any discount at the bar for staying there and can't bring your own drinks with you up stairs. Rooms: What you expect for a city hostel. Small rooms with lots of beds. The beds were comfortable with USB sockets. It is a little stuffy but nothing out of the ordinary. The bathrooms were a mess, one toilet was broken and they are only cleaned once a day. Overall this is a bar, that seems well run, with a hostel plopped on top, the hostel truly plays second fiddle to the bar in this case. If you are looking for a place to stay for the night and are not concerned about meeting anyone or having some amazing staff direct you in London then go for this place. If you want more of a classic hostel experience then look elsewhere and to meet people go anywhere else.

Stayed three nights in the summer, traveling alone. Pros: - Good location close to a lot of tourist sights with plenty of bars and convenience stores all nearby. - Somebody from staff was always around and quick to get things done. Cons: - Not clean, dorms and bathroom always had trash lying around. - Very limited bathroom facilities, especially for as many people as are lodging. - Could be quite noisy at nights coming from the streets. All in all, definition of average. If you’re like me and don’t spend much time in the hostel when visiting a place then it’s fine.

This hostel exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only was it impeccably clean, but it was also well-managed, ensuring a hassle-free stay. Its proximity to tourist attractions was a major plus, making it convenient to explore the city without wasting time on commuting. I stayed in an all-female 9-bed dormitory, luckily with respectful neighbours. There is the occasional snorer, but no one that turns on the main light in the middle of the night or noisy stompers. The dormitory had a modern feel, with comfortable beds and wall sockets for phones right by each bed. This hostel truly sets the gold standard for budget accommodation.

acceptable for a few quick sleeps, not more tho. the staff is polite, helpful and nice. they promise late night food but when I wanted to get some they said they don't serve this late. the rooms are way too hot. not enough showers/toilets/mirrors for the amount of people. they booked someone else on the same bed as me so we had to figure that out in the middle of the night. it worked out in the end tho.

Great location for a tourist. Staff were excellent. Accommodation was quite cramped, but more than adequate. Hot showers were great. A hamburger kitchen inside provided food if required. Happy hour 12 - 3 for 1/2 priced beers.

Super nice Aussie Bartenders/receptionists. Joe was super welcoming and we had a very nice chat, he recommended me an awesome beer too! Whatever you’re paying that man and the Aussie Girl you gotta double it!!! The rooms were tidy and sanitary. Overall, both the hostel and the bar were thoroughly enjoyable experiences :) Aside from the 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋 𝟗 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐒 from my top bunkmate which is luck of the draw I suppose 😂😭

I really liked this hostel, I arrived late at night and I checked in with no hassle. Their bunk beds are quite private, have big lockers inside the rooms (bring your padlock) and the staff were exceptional. They kept my bag safe for the day I checked out. I didn’t have breakfast there but I saw it and it looked very decent. Great location, comfy and clean hostel. Just the matress made a squeaky sound every time I moved, perhaps putting and extra blanket would reduce the noise. Many thanks for hosting me 😊

We found The Steam Engine after a visit to War Museum- what a find! Two of us had the £6.50 lunch special- Cheeseburger & fries. Two of us had the " Rather Nice Veggie" burger. The veggie burger was so tasty and super filling (although we did share a portion of chips). If you have a huge appetite then the Lunch special Cheeseburger maybe wouldn't fill you up but we found it more than enough and very tasty. The guy who was working when visited (lunch time 11th July) was so very pleasant , polite and helpful. We will definitely visit again when in the area.

Very nice place for a lunch meeting. The atmosphere was really nice and although not overly busy, still had a good vibe. We ordered the burgers and they were cooked fresh to order. Both delicious juicy and very good value at £10 each. There is a good mix of people and would imagine it's a great venue for an evening out too. I will be back to see how it is for sure. Its really nice to find a busy pub just off of the beaten track!

I was suprised by how quite it was. One of the best Vegan burgers I've eaten and reasonably priced considering it's in London. Will return next time we visit the area.

Location and service were amazing, rooms were as expected. Booked via first result on Google, got an amazing price and was able to check in without any issues. Overall, very relaxed place and ideal location for a quick stop in London.

Great place for the price we paid . Recommend for solo traveler or with friends. Walking distance for iconic tourist attractions places. Only issue is there’s no lift for upstairs , so u have to carry ur luggage.

I enjoyed this hostel in London Waterloo. There's a pub with a pleasant atmosphere, games, and friendly staff. You can buy things like earplugs and toothbrushes if you forgot yours, very thoughtful. They also sell cooked food. The rooms are good and so was the price. She showers were warm and worked well. All in all a lovely place! Would stay again 💕

Stay for a few days. The Place Is lovely, you can find a small restaurant downstairs and the burgers are delicious 🍔 Plenty draught beers which is appreciated! The main drawback at this hostel is the space in the rooms, really narrow and makes it complicated to circulate if several people are up. Apart from that, I'd definitely recommend this place !

Spacious hostel bar not far from Waterloo with good-value accommodation. Really nice burgers. Blond manager however treated us like dirt. Sneering without much to sneer about. Only drawback of an otherwise nice place. Odd because staff at the London Bridge and Battersea branches are very friendly from previous experiences. Mixed bag - check it out and decide for yourselves :)

Lovely atmosphere and comfortable seats , staff are always lovely and helpful. Service is great and the food is 10/10 . Drinks and food are affordable and quiz night is always fun. A great place to go with friends and family. One of the best pubs in the area.

Came in before 12pm after really busy day at work. Place completely empty, one person behind the bar chatting to a customer. Yet refused to be served as not a customer of the hostel. Never happened to me before as in the past they were always serving till midnight. Laziness is an understatement. Happy Christmas... might not come again!

I'm only giving 4 stars because the staff is so exceptional. Overall, I found the experience very uncomfortable. The room was incredibly cramped, you could not even open the suitcase because there was no space. Also 3 levels of bunk beds. I was on the top bunk and it was incredibly shaky all the time. Only one working toilet for the whole floor. I would guess that's a total of 40 beds. Beds themselves were comfortable.

My wife Amber and I stayed in this hostel for 3 nights and it was great! Very well priced, staff was excellent, food and beer were excellent and affordable, rooms and bathrooms were clean. Now remember, it’s a hostel so if you aren’t ready for snoring people, small spaces and possibly busy and wet floored bathrooms, just don’t do the Hostel thing. Steam Engine was in a great location where we could get anywhere quickly by bus or tube but could enjoy a quiet night for drinks. Also get the breakfast deal, so worth the extra 50 bucks. Thank you to Emily, Victor, Hannah (I believe was her name, blonde with glasses manager) and everyone else that made our trip and experience in London awesome!

great pub, great vibes, friendly staff, affordable & yummy food! the burgers were really yummy and affordable, from £7 to £9.5+ they offered 20% NHS discount which was a great plus! came here for a work social & had a great time especially since the World Cup games were showing too. Would def come back for the burgers they were delicious!

Stumbled across this place whilst trying to find somewhere for a family of four to eat after a day out at the Imperial War Museum. The burgers (both meat and vegetarian options) were delicious, as were the fries. The staff were very friendly and attentive. They also have accommodation above the pub (entry is through the bar) which is very handy Although this is not local to me, I would definitely go here again if I'm in the area.

I’ve seen these pub / hostels before and for whatever reason didn’t think to stop in. My mum is in town and we went on a big tour today. She was tired of walking and this was on our way home from the tube station. First impression: the atmosphere was great, the burgers were great. Tons of variety (including more than 1 veggie option!) and of course the beer was nice. Will be back for another taste.

Probably good when it opened but, now showing signs of lack of maintenance. Some showers not working, door locks as well etc. Guy with long hair behind the bar too interested in his girlfriend who was sitting at the bar all night rather than collecting glasses, or working in general. Megan seemed to be doing all the work. The night guy is very good, cares about what he's doing.

Nice little hostel right near Imperial War Museum. Beds are comfy, showers hot and amazing pressure. Good food and drink and lovely staff, all very reasonable on the pocket. Only negatives, no light in the individual bunks and middle bunks in are hard to get in to and as there are three it's a little squished.

So it's just a Hostel over a nice pub , the double room was basic, but hey it was kind of cool. After all just crashing for the night and you don't really need all the extras...why pay loads, pay a little and still sleep well in a clean room near the Tube Lambeth North ! Would stay again. Oh and the staff were friendly.. all good!

Restaurant with hostel on the same premises. Rooms are not noisy. Comfortable beds. Burgers are good but a bit over priced. Staff friendliness may vary a lot :)

Location is awesome, the Big Ben is somewhat 15 minutes away, charming victorian building has recently being refurbished - rooms and shared areas are near to neat. Also staff is beyond any praise: 10 in 10 case they were friendly, polite and eager to pour hot water for noodles or teas.

  • 4/5 Ruslan M. 8 months ago on Google
It's located in a central and peaceful environment close to the city center. The rooms are tidy and clean. Some of the bunk beds in the rooms are old and might make you uncomfortable while sleeping. If sharing a room with unfamiliar people doesn't bother you, you won't have any other issues. The staff are friendly and helpful.

I would give 5 star but the dorm rooms feel a bit crammed, 3 beds on top of each other..and i kept bumping my head with the bed above :).. All in all its clean and the staff are very welcoming.

As far as backpackers hostels go this was nice and comfortable. And so cheap, perfect for solo trips.or a pair of outdoors adventurers. 32 for Saturday and Sunday in Waterloo, London.

Very superior burgers you have to order sides separately but I don't mind that beer selection is kinda small but that's ok

Had a great stay at the "Steam Engine" lovely freind staff with yummy food... we had the double room with onsuite it has a great overhead walk in shower very clean room and even has a view of the "London eye".... Great location for exploring London 10 mins to Parliament and right next to Imperial War Museum, just 0.5m from Wateroo station....A big thank you to all the staff for making it a Great stay.

  • 5/5 Patrick R. 2 years ago on Google
Wow! Unexpected find on our way back from the Imperial War Museum. We wanted a quick bite & beer and stopped off at The Steam Engine after checking out their burger menu. We had the Cheesus Christ & the Hot and Dirty… both were absolutely fantastic, legit great burgers. Nice beef, soft bun, and they cooked them to a perfect medium at our request. Staff were very friendly & nice… couldn’t ask for any more really. If you are in the area, give this pub a try. They prepare a great burger and the prices are reasonable with friendly service. Side note: we really wanted to try their Christmas Pudding burger but we were a little late in the year and they had stopped serving it. Big points for originality on the concept though!

I visited London two years , and I stopped by to eat at the Steam Engine Waterloo . I had a Caesar salad . The food tasted so delicious not only the taste but I was impressed with the hygiene level of the kitchen and the freshness of the ingredients . If you are looking for a healthy delicious food, the steam engine is the right venue for you . Best Wishes . Chef Matt♥️

Great place, we had the double room which was a good sized room with its own bathroom/wet room. Shower was very powerful and hot. Food was very nice had burger and fries and a pizza. Breakfast was good, had the breakfast wrap and the yogurt pot, coffee and tea both nice. It is staffed day and night and you can get food and drink at time, which I was very gratefull of especially at 5am. Nice place, great staff who are very friendly and helpful, lovely stay, would use again.

The only reason I put 4 stars is because our mattress wasn't the best. Really thin and hard and we didn't sleep well the days we were there. Everything else was amazing! Thank you for the great hospitality! 😊

Pub itself is a great locations, great vibe, beer choices and food. Hostel bit like a different world. Beds are alright, lockers too small for true backpackers. Showers aweful as there was fungus growing all over the ceiling.

We had such a fantastic experience at the hostel and the pub. The staff were phenomenal and made our experience in London super memorable. Left our luggage there earlier and then checked in at 2 which was an easy process. The beds were comfortable and I felt safe leaving my personal items in the lockers. The showers and washrooms were good too. If you’re looking for a good hostel to stay in this is it! Special call out to Corey, Victor, Emily, Pablo and Deandre!

THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! My wife and I made a reservation for two days. BUT, when we arrive at the hostel, they said that their system made a mistake and us reservation was in a female room. THEY made a mistake and did nothing to solve it. The staff (3 different people who we spoke with) only told us that they couldn’t do nothing about it and we must search for another place to stay. Summarizing, we had to booking another place to stay, far more distance from the centre city and much more expensive! We had to spend much more money that we were planing to. Besides for the stressful situation and for the time we spent searching for another place and not enjoying the city.

Nice place to grab a drink and spend time with your friends or colleagues. They also have a hostel on the 1st floor and it's very affordable for tourist visitors. I would recommend the place if you are planning to visit or stay in London for a couple of days.

This place is having a bar and accomodation facility. The accommodation is affordable..In the expensive city London, it's a blessing for accommodation. But toilets and washrooms are less than required. 2 toilets and 4 shower facilities for 4 rooms with more than 40 person accomodating capacity. The bar is quite good with good quality spirits. It's having a good. Ambience to flush out your work pressure, tension etc

  • 5/5 Jessica V. 1 year ago on Google
Such a cute pub on the bottom floor, very secure accommodation, you need to tap ur card multiple times on ur way to get to ur room, storage lockers for your stuff in the room + they have free bag storage in the pub for you, huge bathroom with 3 showers on our floor. The literal only downside was theres no AC and it was sooo hot because of the heat wave but not their fault haha

  • 1/5 Sergio D. 2 years ago on Google
The One Star review is because we have a large bed reservation and give to us two single beds. We have an email confirmation from zenhotel that it was a large bed, so we made the claim to zenhotel and steam engine with no solution. We have 2 more nights and we have to sleep in 2 single beds... The Place - Good: - Location - Near subway station and 10 minutes walking of center. - Funny Pub and Hostel Bad: - Bathroom are mixed - No courtains in bed

The burgers are amazing. My personal recommendation is the veggie burger, yes even if your a carnivore! The ugly nuggets is also a good option if you fancy a change. I would recommend asking for a plate though as the burgers can be quite messy to eat😸

Stayed here for a few days during our stay in London. Love - Love - Love this location! First and foremost, if you want a private room, this is not the place for you. There were ~40 bunks in our dorm style room, arranged in stacks of 3. There were lockers available in the room to secure valuables, but we were just fine leaving our clothes, etc... on our beds. No issues. Check-in available at all times with towels, locks, and all of the other essentials available to purchase. The menu changes depending on the hours, but there is always something available to eat from the kitchen. I enjoyed the ugly wings and a burger, both of which were phenomenal. In fact, I would argue that this place served one of the best burgers I have ever enjoyed. Highly recommend all around - We had a fantastic experience here!

I had a great time; we rented two beds in the shared room. Besides some snoring from other guests, there were no complaints—the beds are simple but alright. The shared bathroom was clean, and the water in the shower was warm. It was a great place to stay if you just need a bed in London. The location was amazing; you can go by tube to all the common places in London pretty quick. The staff and the downstairs pub were the best of the whole place and made it really warm-hearted. Just be careful to take the right keycard with you when you want to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night; otherwise, you will find yourself naked downstairs in the pub asking for it to open your door :D

Cons: The door lock in the 2nd floor washroom wasn't working well and i got stuck there for like 10 minutes trying to open it. i had to call the place and a staff helped me out. There are very different prices on different app on agoda it's listed as £13 per night on the other hand the same room is about £37 per night. So, make sure you see all the websites listing before booking online. Pros: The staffs are very experienced and friendly especially one young woman i developed a crush on. Room, Washroom & Showers are clean and my room was relatively quite so i had a good sleep.
