Wonderful, cozy, beautiful historic pub! Friendly bartenders were lovely to chat with. Nice gin selection and some cask ales. One of my favourite pubs in London!

We came here with some friends that were visiting London. We wanted them to try Sunday Roast in a nice and beautiful pub . The pub is actually really beautiful inside. I have booked quite in advance, however they gave us a table downstairs so we couldn’t enjoy the dinning room. However, the experience turned out to be not nice as once we ordered, the food took almost 2 hrs to arrive and when it arrived they forgot one main dish, so one of us didn’t have Sunday Roast, and in view of the waiting time we decided not to order again. So at the end, I wish I wouldn’t have chosen this pub as the whole turistic day was delayed and someone end up not eating. The food was ok .

Fantastic food and pleasant service! Definitely recommend to book a table for the upper floor and get the traditional British dishes: fish & chips, steak pie and the beef Wellington. The sticky toffee pudding is great.

The Oak Room restaurant (upstairs) - Fantastic place! Service was friendly professional and efficient. We even saw the chef and it was obvious he was passionate about his food. I had the Scallops, rib-eye steak and cheese board. I did book this place hoping to have the Beef Wellington but unfortunately it was off the menu when we visited. The waitress was very apologetic though. Regardless, the food and atmosphere was top notch. Very classic but relaxed and cozy without being stuffy. Pricey, but worth it. The main bar - it's alright, has the same ol world charm as the Oak Room however when we went they didn't have much in the way of cask ales on and the two bartenders didn't seem very interested in serving us, however to be fair it was just before christmas and they were also dealing with the 2 pint wonders that try to drink for England. That aside the spiced apple and rum mulled drink was lovely. Basically if you're going for the Oak room then it's great.

Had a great meal here one weekday evening, and the staff (all female) were so friendly, welcoming and efficient. Truly excellent service. We ordered mussels and a steak pie, which were generous in size and came with vegetables (even the mussels had leeks in the sauce). I was also very impressed that in the ladies loos, tampons, sanitary pads and deodorant are provided, which is such a nice touch - I’ve never seen this anywhere else in pubs or restaurants!

Lovely pub just out of the hustle and bustle. The chips are huge, they probably one get 4 out of one large potato. Great selection of beers on tap too.

Hate to review this pub as I don't want it to be spoiled. But it's absolutely one of may fave pubs in central London. Esp around Christmas time. It's a beautiful pub and the staff are always a dream and really helpful esp if you want a taster of the different ales. Beer is amazing esp if you are a real ale drinker. That's a rare find in London too! Good real ale! Always meet interesting people here too! Hear the food is great but never tried it. Simply put - this is a real gem and beautiful British pub that are sadly disappearing from the UK at an alarming rate (or are being butchered by modernising them - like the Tom Cribb). Massive thanks to the bar staff that are always (and I mean always) superb and friendly.

Amazing! This was the best meal we have had in our two weeks on vacation! The chicken and mushroom pie for two was so good! Reservations are suggested. We didn’t know to n my air reservations but they were able to seat us. The service (Diana) was great- never an empty glass or needed anything. We highly recommend and will be back!

Done in the magic of a restaurant which was established in 1549!!!! Not to be missed at all. You really feel the wealth of history. The food is local English and the taste is exceptional. The service is more than excellent. Try their local best-seller. Exceptional time

We're coming here every week, just for the Sunday Roast, it really excellent, but there are other great options on the menu. You should try the Crème Brûlée! Also, the staff are very nice and professional.

The Oak room is a stunning place. Restaurant was great to discover typical British gastronomy. Had a great time here in a unique atmosphere. I recommend the beef wellington.

What a lovely find. The restaurant itself is upstairs and decorated in a very cosy and homely way. Service was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious - generous portion sizes. I had the pie (steak and ale) which had lots of good cuts of meat unlikely some other pubs. My only comment would be that it's a little on the pricey side - £1-2 off each menu item probably would make me want to spend more as I was put off certain options because of the price! However, for a hearty, high quality dinner, I would be prepared to come back.

Lovely atmosphere, Saturday afternoon. Food looks great but we were drinking only - good selection. 3 drinks just under 20 quid, typical.

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday beef roast. Food was incredible and big portions. It is a more expensive meal but worth it. Located in an alley off the Main Street which gave it a more authentic atmosphere. Inside was cozy and traditionally decorated.

We went for the Sunday Roast and loved it! The portion size was almost too big, but the food itself was so delicious! Both the chicken and the beef were very well cooked and the side dishes were plentiful and so yummy! Nice wine and beer selection and really cozy atmosphere - like in an old-fashioned ship :)

A great old pub with a traditional and cozy bar downstairs. Lively on weekday evenings. Upstairs, quieter dining. Had to try fish&ships one day and brisket on another day. Excellent both. The fish was over the top, the other side dishes could have been improved a bit, but not bad. The brisket was heavenly, the Spanish Rioja red wine next to it hit and sank. The brisket was nicely served under the hood with smoke. The decorative peas were a bit shriveled, but the sauce itself, the meat and the mash, were worth a full 10. Also full marks for the staff.

The Sunday roast is a must! Portion sizes are huge but definitely worth the money spent. All of the staff are lovely and the venue itself is so quaint. 👌

The food was so good we did a double take! I cannot say enough good things about this place. This 16th century pub gives a classic Biritish Tavern aesthetician with dining on two levels. My partner and I came here to try to infamous Sunday roast and it did not disappoint. I ordered the lamb roast, my partner ordered the beef, and we shared a plate of fish and chips. Everything was delicious. Im still dreaming about the gravy that comes on the lamb roasts. Before departing London, we returned to Ship Tavern for a farewell pub meal. This time we ordered the chicken and leek pot pie and the cheeseburger. Both delicious but the pot pie stole the show. Our cocktails were the perfect compliment to our meals. Every drink we ordered was made to perfection and went down smooth! (Old fashioned, Espresso Martini, Bramble, and Whiskey Sour) Shout out to Beth, our bartender, a true talent. Our experience at Ship Tavern wouldn't have been what it was without our server, Sian! She was super patient and personable and answered all of our questions about the menu while providing valuable suggestions.

Great little gem of a pub hidden away behind Holborn tube station. Had a good Sunday roast here. Great service from the staff and Theakston’s Old Peculiar on tap. Perfect.

Amazing Sunday Roast! Small space but if you can make an early reservation you’ll have the place mostly to yourself! The house wine is super smooth and the Pork roast is still making my mouth water to think about!

The best fish and chips ever. We enjoyed waiting for our meal while we felt very relaxed. The lady's were very nice, also the charming barkeeper. thank you

I had such high hopes for this pub, hidden away around the corner at Holborn station. No outdoor seating available but barrels in the lane you can stand at. Limited seats inside as expected with the size of the pub. An okay selection of beers available but unfortunately not very nice. Not sure if I just caught them on a bad day but even with London prices, I had to leave some of drink. Great atmosphere inside though.

This was recommended to us by a friend in London as it was not far from our hotel and near the Holborn underground. We decided to check it out before heading to the airport. Just turn left as you step out from the Holborn station. It's about 150m there is a tiny street on your left. Anyone would have missed this as it's not visible from the road. There is an outdoor area in front of the pub. Service is good, we got to taste the beers before deciding on which ones we wanted. It was full, no place to sit, we had luggage with us. A waitress very kindly seated us at a table which was reserved for customers while waiting for a free table. There was a menu for Sunday roast, it appeared to be reasonably priced. Snacks are available after dining times. Best to rsvp if you plan to dine in. We were there for 30 to 40 minutes, wished we had more time. I recommend this place!

Stephanie gave us fantastic service in the restaurant! The Sunday Roast was absolutely amazing! We then headed downstairs to the pub. Tony and the rest of the bar staff was phenomenal! They were very knowledgeable about explaining the cocktails and differences between the beers. Highly recommend The Ship Tavern!
