The collection is absolutely stunning pieces of art work. It has to be the best exhibition I have been to so far.🖼 It is literally in the heart of London and the admission is completely free of charge. There is a cafe inside too which serves great food and service.☕️There is also afternoon tea served here. We ended up spending 2-3 hours there. It’s a hidden gem worthy of being explored. 💎I would also recommend it if you want some cool aesthetic photos.

It is one of the best art collections in London. The only disappointment is that The Laughing Cavalier is out on loan and not expected back for a year. The good thing previously about Wallace was they weren't able to loan paintings as part of the bequest, but somehow they've gotten around it, and now paintings may or may not be there for your visit. Anyhow, its a lovely collection and we'll worth a visit. There is a cafe, but don't expect much. There is a cloak room downstairs. Access is pretty good. Go to Daunt Books after your visit. There is also a great Oxfam shop on the way.

This is a great little exhibit in the heart of London. It’s free and you just walk in, no ticket required at all. We went in quite late so I’d say feel free to enter anytime before 5pm. We spent about an hour in here but I would say 2-3 hours is perfect. The different coloured rooms, the painting, the items were so amazing and pretty. I definitely recommend especially to get some cool photos.

What a wonderful place to visit. My friend from the USA was visiting me and he asked me if I would be interested in visiting the museum and having lived here for 22 years has convinced me to go check it out. I knew nothing about this museum until we had a good walk around. The displays are magnificent and grand. The décor is something you desire if you had the riches to fund such lavish taste. The staff are all very polite and friendly. I had a wonderful time looking at all the exhibitions. I just didn't check out the Disney display or get a chance to eat at the French restaurant which looks lovely. If you found my review helpful please press like. I highly recommend here.

I can't believe this place was missing from my list of 'London gems'! I visited The Wallace Collection on a Saturday afternoon and had the most incredible experience. Entrance is free and you'll be surrounded by astonishing pieces of art 🎨. The colours and décor of the various rooms are just a dream. An incredible place that will transport you to another time. Absolutely recommend and can't wait to be back! ✨

Excellent collection and severely underrated! I can’t understand why people don’t speak about this place more in conversations about London’s best museums. The Wallace was recently voted the world’s best hidden gem. Entry is free and there is a free one-hour guided tour you can take to get explanations about some of the highlights features in the collection, including some excellent medieval and renaissance works. The collection showcases works by Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner, Velázquez and Canaletto to name a few. There is also a lovely at the back of the museum.

Absolutely amazed by this place, so many amazing works of art, and over the top baroque furniture from mostly pre-revolution France. I saw other reviews saying this is a small place, it is definitely not, the exhibitions kept on going for ages. Also the armoury is not usually my cup of tea, but this one really impressed me! And on top of that, you can just walk straight in, no entrance fee, which for me who doesn’t earn that much, is really helpful. Definitely recommend!

Small, elegant and eclectic collection of mostly baroque art. The building itself is a well kept mansion with wonderful Christmas decoration - if you’re lucky and visit during the holidays. Don’t miss on the spacious cafe in the roofed court. All in all, one of London’s best addresses.

Relatively small museum with wonderful display of interior fittings of a Victorian noble mansion. Paintings were not the most attractive collection there but the wonderful furniture & fittings. They have an interesting collection of armours. What was more appealing to me were the 2 imperial wine cups which were lost during the Opium War, whereby it’s stated that only 4 existed in the world!

Impressive, amazing, gorgeous. This is a very unique attraction. Lot of artwork, porcelain, painting, armour from medieval era, swords, bows, posh furniture, etc... This collection is really amazing, definitely worth a visit. Staff is helpful, they have good knowledge, very friendly. We were amazed. Several hours could be spent at The Wallace collection. It is seriously a huge and very impressive collection. hundreds and hundreds of items in each categories. It is impossible to remember everything. Too many. Standards, cleanliness, quality is extremely high. Obviously. There is also a Caffe locally within the building to have a break if needed. Souvenir shop is also located in the building, impressive gifts and memories could be bought. At least half day should be allowed to visit this magnificent collection.

Never even heard of this museum in London but was absolutely incredible. Free entry (and no need to pre-book) though we paid extra for the Disney/French art exhibition. The Disney exhibition was incredible and well worth the entry, but the standard collection was also top notch. Every room was packed full of treasures (amazing to see the laughing cavalier up close) and as it's not well know, it was easy to get round and see many of the exhibits. There was a queue for the restaurant so we didn't eat but will certainly be back in the future to spend more time here. Highly recommended.

Absolutely stunning collection, a must see when in Marylebone but also definitely worth making the trip to come here. It is free admission and feels like entering another world it’s so beautiful; from interiors to the actual art works, an afternoon well spent. It’s also not as big as other ‘major’ museums / galleries like the V&A and Tate so can easily see everything in an hour or so.

One of my favourite places I have visited in London. Absolutely stunning. This collection is FREE for the general public to view. The Wallace Collection is a national museum housing the wonderful works of art collected in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the first four Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, the illegitimate son of the 4th Marquess. I would recommend 2hrs to visit. Giving you an adequate viewing time of the collection unless you go down the rabbit-hole of looking at all of the miniatures or are really into armour.

most beautiful museum/house I have ever visited! the interiors, intricate decorations, paintings, atmosphere - it's very special and unique! also, entry is free, so you can come by whenever you want to sit in the great hall and watch the artists paint those beautiful paintings hung on the walls! PS: I came back this year during Christmas time and they added decorations and Christmas trees in each room, which was magnificent! would recommend visiting in December if you like Christmas decorations :)

The Wallace Collection 2020 - A Covid Visit The Wallace Collection is yet another free offering that is available to tourists and locals alike. From the impressive Reuben's in the entrance hall to wolrd famous Portrait of The Laughing Cavalier. The collection has something for everyone. Whether it's the splendour of the building and the lavish rooms inside or the eclectic nature of the collection from stunning pieces of furniture through to the collection of arms and armour from around the world. Situated just off, Oxford Street, it's easily accessible and should be on everyone's to do list. It's celebrating its 120th anniversary this year (2020) and has recently reopened (15th July 2020), following a 3 month lockdown due to the Covid19 Virus. Only the 3rd time ever it's closed its doors, the other times being caused by two World Wars. The Covid restrictions have meant the experience of visiting is vastly different to normal and I would advise the following: 1.  It's a requirement to book for a visit, so ensure you go to the website and book a time & date suit. I would reccomend a Monday morning. Give yourself at least 90 minutes for a visit. The museum currently closes at 3pm. 2. Londoners work together, so remember this is a visit for everyone not just you. 3. For the best experience use the reccomended Gallery Guide. You can download it from the website or use the QR code on display when you arrive (the Museum has free Wifi) 4. This highlights 2 or 3 objects in each gallery which gives you a great first taste of what the museum has to offer without creating bottlenecks. Many of the rooms at the begining of the tour only hold two to three people at a time. So better to see two objects and move on than hold everyone up outside. 5. Keep moving wiere you can and always be considerate of others (let the elderly & disabled go first and amke sure they have access to seating). 6. The visit is free so if you can afford it please make a donation to continue the upkeep of this magnificent treasure or treat yourself 7. Follow the 2 meter markers on the floor (by all means move away to take a photograph which is allowed here but remeber to keep your 2m distance at all times) 8. If you go on a Momday you can wrap your visit with a visit to Marylebone's oldest pub The Barley Mow a 5 minutes walk away. A monday madness deal offers you a Pie, Mash, peas and gravy and a pint or your choice (or glass of wine) for just £12.50 and is the perfect ending to the day. If we all do our bit we can support galleries and independent businesses dor generations as Londoners have done for centuries. Enjoy!

I have such a wonderful time there, all the works, paintings and collections were splendid. ✨ I spend around 2 hours and half inside, well it wasn't that big the Gallery itself, but there are so many things to look at. Every pieces of art and collections have been represent in their best way, the description are easily understand. You can also use 'Smartify' application to scan some artwork and read more description, which is so helpful. Works there were separated by era which well describe at the beginning of the room. Good for inspiration, such a nice place for hanging out with friends and family even tho I went there alone, but I have such a great time. If you love art, this is the place for you, highly recommend. ❤️

My favourite museum so far. Every item inside is unique and precious. Read the story behind and you will fall for the museum. The collections are very wide, can be competed with V&A, not the size of the museums, but the items. There is a café in the ground floor. It opens everyday from 10am to 5pm. Fee admission. It is not crowed in the early morning.

Amazing collection of paintings, porcelain and furniture, mostly from French royalty. Completely free, but make sure to take the tour otherwise they don’t let you into all the rooms. The tour felt a bit too long and tended to overfocus on a single artwork in the room, but the guide was clearly enthusiastic about the subject and had a great deal of knowledge.

Before exploring the exhibit I went to the cafe area of the museum to enjoy an afternoon tea. I am utterly disappointed with the service as soon as I was seated. The staff ignored me, did not even bother offering me anything to drink or ask what I want while waiting for my friend. In addition to this, they were serving other people who came after me which felt like they were choosing which ones they wanted to serve first and waited 20 minutes before getting the attention of one of the staff to accommodate me. The afternoon tea was awful compared to the others I have tried. I do not recommend! The plain scone was hard as a rock to chew. But despite the bad experience with the cafe, I loved and enjoyed the museum. I will go back for it and never the cafe ever again.

It is a great collection. Do not forget to check "Laughing Cavalier" painting which is one of the most brilliant of all Baroque portraits". I am surprised that it is in London as I would expect to see it in the Netherlands. The café in the museum was looking cosy but unfortunately, we had no time but it might be good to have an afternoon tea after visiting the museum.

A must visit experience in London. With a unique collection of art pieces, this place enlightens some of the greatest artists from the last centuries. Starting with massive European Armoury room exhibitions and an impressive gallery upstairs with paintings and porcelain art. Additionally, you have a lovely coffee shop with great cream tea options and afternoon tea if you go for more fancy options 😋😉

Very beautiful museum, and it's free! The collection encompasses European armoury and various object from Europe and Asia, but you will mostly find paintings. Every room is beautiful by itself, as the museum is inside a luxurious mansion. There is a cafe/restaurant in the patio, which was really full when I visited.

A great collection of baroque and rococo art. The armour halls are amazing with beautiful ivory inlays and the turner room had some i had never seen before. The whole building and decorating is extravagant and interesting. Definitely worth it.

A great collection or art and armour, and a lovely space to see them in. Entrance is free, yet the visiting numbers are far fewer than the national gallery of portrait gallery, so you can really enjoy the collection in peace and take your time. Being a privately funded collection, the building is in very good condition which really helps elevate the experience. Finally, the cafe-restaurant is pricey but also very nice. Absolutely worth a visit .

Bequeathed to the Nation in 1897, the Wallace Collection has on display some outstanding works collected by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace in the 18th and 19th centuries. This is a superb collection, and each room has its's own theme with some exquisite works of Art, and one very worth while to go and visit I am really looking forward to getting out to The Wallace Collection for a visit when the lockdown is over, this is on my wish list.

One of the best public museum experiences in London a well curated private collection. I have used the cafe for business meetings in the past. Fabulous atrium/cafe area and your business prospects can muse the artefacts before or after the meeting. The suites of armour and weaponry are truly terrifying.

In my opinion one of the best family collections of art works you will find in London. The museum is a short walk from Bond Street tube. Paintings by Rubens, Canaletto and Rembrandt to name just a few. The famous Laughing Cavalier is on display here. There is a fantastic display of horse and man armour, many rare examples. So many different and varied things to see. In the middle is a cafe and restaurant.

Amazing hidden gem within London. Gorgeous paintings yes but the armour collection is something else too. This place contains a beautiful bejewelled dagger made for Shah Jahan, at the height of Mughal power. And also an incredible talwar made for Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore. I didn't know about these before I went but they were such an incredible treat to behold. Any history lover should visit this collection. And oh, the vases here are beautiful enough to have their own wiki pages in some cases. Sharing some photos.

Booked a free ticket for the permanent collection on their website. I felt safe and confident with the measures they had in place, minimise number of people, one way flow, stickers on the floor to control direction and foot traffic. The collection itself was beautiful and I loved using the smartify app to get more information about the art and furnishings. Great way to spend 2-3 hours.

It was wonderful to discover this hidden gem nearby Oxford Street. I will be definitely back when the restrictions will be lifted. Currently some parts are closed, but it is definitely worth to visit. There were just a few visitors and many safety measures have been put in place (I think even too many). Staff is very friendly and helpful. If I wouldn't be in a hurry I would spend two hours there, stunning concentration of the masterpieces.

Nice gallery located close to Bond Street station. A good collection on show, quite a few rooms closed at the moment. The best thing about this place is the staff, all genuinely passionate about the works and very informative. Personally, not my type of art but a nice place nonetheless.

It’s free to visit and always a pleasure to walk through it all. My third favourite museum in London. In terms of size, I’d say that this is medium size for a museum/gallery - so enough to explore for everyone without getting too tired. One day I plan to eat a meal there, but I haven’t had the chance to do so yet.

Loved this little collection. There weren’t so many rooms that it became overwhelming but each room had plenty to look at! We loved that there were books from the collection which we could use to look up information about the collection. The cafe was lovely but warm in the summer because of the glass roof. Thank you for making it freely available! I tried to donate on the way out but the card machine wasn’t quite working :/ Next time!

The Wallace Collection is a gem, not so much for its wonderful and eclectic art, furniture, amour, and ceramic displays (with a strong french influence) but for the ambiance and insights it offers. It is a warm life experience greater than the sum of its parts. There are daily free special and regular tours. It's summed up by one of its famous works, The Laughing Cavalier, all good fun.

Aside from being a supremely beautiful building in the heart of Marylebone, the Wallace Collection has a very impressive collection of Dutch masters and 18th century French furniture. The lovely atrium (which is sadly closed during post-covid times but will surely open back up soon) is a bright and airy place for lunch or a drink. A heart weapons collection from all over the world lines the back half of the museum’s collection. It’s a wonderful space and absolutely worth a visit!

There are a lot of colorful furniture and crafts all over the mansion, but each room is decorated with luxurious silk wallpaper and color, so it is fun to see the room. In particular, the jewel box filled with jewels displayed in a dark room was impressive! It's really pretty to see the lights twinkle ? So impressed with the range of art and antiques on display. Amazing to think that one person had collected it all - a stark reminder of the gap between the poor and the extremely wealthy! The house displays its collection with a level of elegance and you'll never get bored with the vast range of collectables on display. Must-sees include The Laughing Cavalier by Frans Hals, a captivating example of the Baroque style, painted during the age of the Dutch Golden Age.

Absolutely wonderful museum which is like walking through someone's private house. Well, actually, that's exactly what it is - or rather, was! Every sumptuous room is a winner, packed to the rafters with French porcelain and paintings by the likes of Velazquez, Titian and Rembrandt, beautifully displayed against rich red, deep blue blend emerald green brocade wallpaper. You'll need way more than two hours to get round this place - in fact, far better to split it across a couple of days. There's also a cafe and restaurant in the centre of the museum, in a covered courtyard serving very tasty fayre, including brunch and the staff are very pleasant, albeit a wee bit slow - coffee took an age to arrive but maybe they're short staffed in the kitchen? Entrance to the museum is free but please, make a voluntary donation. This place deserves it.

An impressive private collection that enables big names of XVII and XVIII Century French painting to shine in a dream urban mansion at the heart of Marylebone. Friendly and helpful staff and a lovely inner patio with a charming cafe. Also amazes with a cherry picked selection of Spanish golden names like Velázquez or Murillo, and a handful of Italian masters, mainly sculpture. A space to enjoy the inspiration of the now lost european aristocrats with outstanding wealth with taste. I regret that the shop could have had a bigger assortment of prints and well designed souvenirs according to the collection - although I bought some botanical repros and china. Definitely, a great jewelry box to travel back to better times of golden beauty.

I only found out about the Wallace Collection because of the Manolo Blahnik shoe exhibition that they had at the museum! I was blown away by the other artworks in this museum! It is an absolute secret treasure of London and I rate it higher than the V&A Museum and even some of the stuff they have in the British Museum. You have to go see it! Artwork / Paintings / some of the finest French furniture and not forgetting the Armoury!

  • 5/5 Robin R. 4 years ago on Google
Absolutely loved the exhibition on Indian art of the East India Company. I've added some pictures to give you a feel of what it was like. If you get a chance then visit. Grab the audio dialogue device as well, it's free with your ticket. You need the background history to understand it. The house itself is interesting but I'd had enough by then. Check out the shop. And we bought the book. I'll come here again to check out the house.

An extraordinary institution a stone’s throw from the tawdry commercial hustle and bustle of Oxford Street but it could be in a different world. A stately home which would be remarkable enough for its collection of equestrian armour, enamel, glass and bronzes on the ground floor, it then astonishes with a series of grand first floor rooms housing masterpieces of European art primarily from the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly strong on the French rococo. Well might Frans Hals’s Cavalier laugh at his place amongst the surrounding works by the likes of Van Dyck, Velasquez, Titian and Fragonard, not to mention ornate furniture and clocks. The courtyard today housing its own equestrian knight in armour is one of the most impressive settings for a lunch or cream tea anywhere in London. Although the Wallace Collection currently requires advance booking a few slots generally remain available in the day even at weekends.

Absolutely love this place, a beautiful collection of paintings and assorted items from all over the world in a very relaxing setting. The Venetian glasses are quite stunning, and the weapons collection can rival that of much larger museums. Also the bar is nice, quite relaxing and lightly with an excellent selection of teas for a somewhat secluded and less busy experience, given the location in central London.

I have wanted to visit for a while and managed to get there on our short break recently. What a fabulous collection. Loved it all, especially the Dutch masters. Shame some of the rooms were closed off but there was still plenty to see. We visited the Frans Hal's exhibition which was excellent. I listened to the descriptions of the paintings by the curator and then listened to Grayson Perry's take on them which was interesting and informative. Very enjoyable couple of hours. Would highly recommend a visit.

  • 5/5 Victor C. 2 years ago on Google
Great place to see a large collection of art ranging from paintings to porcelain and fine furniture, it is a vast collection but the space is small enough to see most of it in one visit so it's more manageable. It is also not as busy as the national gallery for example so you can actually spend more time in peace and quiet to just appreciate the art. The cafe is also very nice and serves good food.

  • 5/5 Romano C. 2 years ago on Google
The Wallace collection is simply breathtaking. It is full of the highest quality historic objects from kitchenware, religious artifacts, paintings, weapons and armours. You can spend half a day here getting lost in luxuries of the past. I think this collection is a small tilt of the cap demonstrating how humans improve manufacturing capabilities and develop crafts to unbelievably complexities over time. Well worth a visit and a donation at the end! Fabulous.

Wonderful collection of art, sculpture, armour, and so much more in an amazingly central grand old London townhouse. Some of the finest armour on display anywhere as well as the Laughing Cavalier, bit of a family favourite! Some really interesting displays come through here too from time to time - worth checking to see what's coming up.

One of the hidden gems of London. If you love the National Gallery, you'll love the Wallace Collection. Personally, I actually like this more! It's a few minutes walk from Bonds Street tube station, houses incredible Renaissance paintings, has lots to see over 2 floors and even has an attractive courtyard where you can get a fancy meal. The building itself is a gorgeous gorgeous 18/19t century townhouse having been a home to the highly affluent Sir Richard Wallace. Best of all, it's free. I highly recommend visiting the Wallace Collection. A must-visit for all cultural peeps.

On this occasion we visited the courtyard café which is lovely and airy and bright. It was fairly busy, we had to wait for a while before being acknowledged which felt slightly uncomfortable, especially as several of the staff were behind the bar/counter but didn't appear to be busy. When we were eventually shown to a table our waitress was very personable. We ordered the red velvet cake and a tart de citron with strawberries and fresh basil, both were very good. I'd like to return to try the afternoon tea.

I loved it! I’ll definitely go back. You can see some very famous paintings but what makes it interesting is to see antiques such as vases, cutlery, furniture. Kids (and adults) will ADORE the armours and swords from different countries (England, China, India etc)

Very interesting collection with artwork and objects from all around the world. I really enjoyed listening to information from the app they referred in the entrance. There is a really nice restaurant in the courtyard but we didn’t stayed for a drink, maybe next time. Gift shop looked tempting as well but it was rather small and crowded. I highly recommend this free gallery to spend a couple of hours.

One of the richest and best put together exhibitions I’ve seen so far!! The entry is free and there’s no need to book in advance. I was although quite saddened to find out that the famous picture of the lady in the swing (one of their most well known pieces) was actually on display on a payed portion of the museum. That should have been advertised with more clarity and if I well recall the tickets for the private exhibition were also a bit pricy. With all that said, it is definitely more that worth paying a visit!

  • 5/5 Dave K. 2 years ago on Google
Incredible collection presented in a beautiful period place. The collection contains the type of items that you would expect to see in the national gallery or the British Museum. Very accessible and comfortable surroundings. All forms of painting, media, and even several rooms of armaments. I highly recommend this hidden out of the way gem.

This place just wow! The best museum I've been to in London. It is beautiful. It's not huge like the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum but it is amazing. OMG! My initial desire to visit was because they have Hals Laughing Cavalier, a painting I have wanted to see for years. I did not expect Michelangelo, Titian, Rubens, Gainsborough or Canaletto. The armoury collection itself is one of the best in existence. Every room is full of treasures, the best of the best. Two floors of marvels and exhibition space in the basement. Free entry. Easy to overlook, but it should not be missed!!!

Great space and great collections. Paintings, furniture, armoury, figurines etc. I don't know why or how it's free but it is. With cloakrooms and modern toilets available it is a fantastic way to spend a few hours.

Fantastic museum, well worth a visit. Plenty of friendly and knowledgeable staff, a wealth of beautiful exhibits mostly from 17th to 19th centuries. I went mostly for the armoury galleries which were wonderful, although in need of better lighting which I was told was coming soon. The restaurant is also very good with attentive staff and plenty of comfy seating, and a good menu. They were a bit cheeky in adding a mandatory service charge even for a cup of coffee, but as the prices were reasonable and the service excellent it was ok.
