A unique experience to be in such a theater! It is completely different from all the theater buildings you have seen so far. It is open in the center and the seats are all around wood, you can get cushions to sit more comfortably at extra cost. The plays that are played are of course all of Shakespeare. I highly recommend it. We had a great time even though it was a little cold.

We went on a short guided tour but unfortunately didn't have time to watch a play. The experience would have probably been better if we had. The tour was fun and informative, and I think worth it, otherwise you won't be able to see the inside of the theater. The gift shop is also worth a browse. Found these miniature books and just had to have them!

What can I say about this place! Amazing theatre with a rich history and absolutely stunning performances. Watched 4 plays already - Julius Caesar, Midsummer night’s dream, Macbeth and As you like it. All the plays had an amazing cast, amazing costumes and were beautifully played. Love the yard standing area - I think it’s the best way to watch Shakespeare plays at the Globe. Just £5 tickets and you feel like being part of the play rather than in the audience, with all action happening around you. It’s one of the things only London can offer and I recommend watching a play here for anyone visiting London! Book your tickets in advance on the Globe website as the yard tickets generally sell out very quickly. Also it’s open air, so do dress for the weather!

Great experience and lovely recreation of a major historical location. Dress for the outdoor weather and use a cushion (or two!) if you are in the seats and you’ll have a great time. Many seats have partially obscured views, so sit facing the stage for best results, but it’s still a great place to see a show no matter where you sit.

We watched a 90 minute version of Macbeth here. Superbly done. The dread and horror were palpable in this classic tale of fate, ambition, power, and vengeance, just like it should be. The theater is a treasure, but like most treasures the seating is for people with shorter legs. The "cheap seats" are for those who stand next to the stage.

I finally made it here after missing out 17 years ago. We booked a tour and even my 11 and 13 year old thoroughly enjoyed it and we were pleasantly surprised to get to see some rehearsal of a play! Arrive early enough to explore the historical walk inside and don't forget to check out the gift shop. Next time we are in London we hope to catch a performance.

Our guide (Gerald) was EXEMPLARY~!~! He provided such personalized and intimate communication of all sorts of information about the Globe. He included historical memorabilia, personable anecdotes, funny stories, and interacted quite well with the audience. The theater came to life via his presentation, and allowed an insider's look at the entire venue. Highly recommended.

Visited The Globe Theatre today and I must admit I'm not a huge Shakespeare fan, but my wife is and this was part of her birthday celebrations. We had booked a guided tour and our group was made up of 5 people. Our guide was totally amazing!!!!! I really can't stress that enough. She was engaging, hilarious and incredibly knowledge. As a non Shakespeare"fan", I was a little reticent as I thought I'd be really bored, however our guide really made it enjoyable. The building is totally amazing and I am looking to visit to see a show. I may get become a fan

The guided tour was very informative and engaging. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and the staff was very friendly. The tour takes about an hour. My 5 yr old and 2 yr old stayed engaged and enjoyed seeing the old theatre. There was also a sword fighting demonstration we attended. The knowledge and skills displayed were incredible. Highly recommend.

Great experience! Definitely worth going👍 It is an open air theatre so make sure wrap up warm in the winter. The yard tickets cost only 5 pound but you had to stand up during the entire show, not recommended for tourists who have done a lot walking 🚶‍♂️ They also offer theatre workshops for children, don’t miss it!

Watched Hansel and Gretal, 1st night. No rain and sat under the covers with cushions. Great atmosphere. Contemporary play and was expecting a more traditional play. Not always easy to hear. The Narrator was the best and he was covering due to staff illness. Dressed warmly. A fun night and a lovely first visit.

Just brilliant. We visited in February (so the indoor one). Othello was brilliant. Great modern re-telling of the story which made you want to grab Othello and scream "no Othello don't listen to him, no". Well done to the brilliant cast 👏🏻. Felt every punch, slap and emotion. Poor Desdemona - ouch.

Beautiful and historic theatre. The employees are very friendly and helpful. We went to see Hansel and Gretel and stood for £5. Unfortunately it started to rain during the second act so we got a bit wet. The acting was excellent and it was an interesting retelling of a classic story.

Take a trip back in time with Shakespeare's globe. This theatre, built in 1997, has been painstakingly recreated to look like it would of done in the 1600s. You can take a guided tour behind the scenes, or watch one of Shakespeare's many plays. Don't forget to look at the museum with lots of props and costumes. Some of the many objects in the museum are a old book from Shakespeare's time, a dress a actor war, and a shop. As I said in my big ben review, it is a good theatre to visit. If you visit London, try to see this. Also in the museum, there is a model of London in the olden days.

We went to see Hansel and Gretel with our 7 year old and 7 month-old and had a great time! Sat in the middle gallery and although it was December, we were lucky to have 10C weather and didn't feel too cold. Dress for the weather?

The place is of a great and astonishing history, and it is what left from the 16th century and the first rounded theatre in the world! It has the chairs of the rich and the space for the poor, also, it doesn’t have curtains, and it’s as mentioned in art history books! However, I booked the guided tour and I can say that the guide ruined the experience since she actually started from the 1900s and her tone was not attaching at all. I guess a better guide would make the experience way better!

We went on the tour of the Globe, and it was truly one of my favorite experiences in London. Our tour guide was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and passionate about Shakespeare. I could feel her energy and passion as she spoke about the history behind the Globe. Additionally, I loved the gift shop. There were so many things that I wanted to buy, but there was a limited amount of space in my suitcase that I had to be mindful of. If I'm ever able to return to London, I will revisit this place.

(Translated by Google) One of the most vivid museums I've ever seen. The Shakespeare's Globe! Including a faithfully reproduced round stage. However, the tour is in English and the audio guide is only for volume. The museum section is also very interesting. Gift shop included, you can get some very nice souvenirs here! With which the theater also supported. Entry is included in the London Pass. (Original) Eines der anschaulichsten Museum das ich je gesehen habe. Das Shakespeare's Globe! Utterly indescribable how good the performance of Romeo and Juliet was. The actors make Shakespeare so accessible and easy to understand... That's an understatement. They make it extremely enjoyable, engaging and gripping. I had goosebumps several times and tears in my eyes at the end. God it's good to go to the theatre again.

First time here. Saw Romeo and Juliet Was nice to go back to the theatre after COVID. Not many wearing masks but felt it was safe still as it’s open air. When the actors went into the crowds they wore masks which was clever. The play was very good and connected an old classic with modern themes. A cool way to do it!

The love and care taken with the faithful recreation of The Bards work filled me with a warm feeling of gratitude. I'm indebted to the people that made it possible to experience the globe theater both via a tour and a play. I loved every minute of it! I only wish I'd had more time in London to go see more of the shows. One of the absolute highlights of London! Lauren (our newbie your guide) was highly entertaining, knowledge and positively dripping with charm and poise. I'll treasure the memories for years. If you come to see a play, rent a cushion 😉

Really neat venue and absolutely incredible performances! I watched Pericles and was a bit unsure prior to the performance, since I’d never heard of this play before. However, I had nothing to worry about - the cast did a wonderful job and the play itself was a delightful mix of drama and comedy. If you get standing room tickets, arrive about 30 minutes early to get a good spot :)

Easy to book tickets online. Helpful staff. Great shows. I had taken a standing ticket for Midsummer Nights Dream. Good visibility from standing area and comfortable. Staff were handing out paper caps to protect us from sunlight. It is an outdoors theatre so come hydrated and wear sunscreen! Only so called problem would be the somewhat expensive gift shop. Wound up not getting anything.

This is a replica of the original Globe theatre, used by William Shakespeare to stage many of his plays for the first time. It includes the small Wannamaker theatre and a museum and gift shop. It is on the bank of the Thames, near where the original theatre stood, but in Elizabethan times, the river was much wider.

A beautiful place. If you are a Shakespeare fan, this is a must. Be warned, If you go for a play during cold weather, You WILL be cold. If it rains, you will get wet. It is open air. Highly recommend paying for cushions and blankets, They are cheap enough. Some people may need something to prop their feet up on when sitting in the theater as the bench seats are quite high (use your own bag or coat). There are no backs to the seats as they are basically benches. This is an immersion experience. This is how people viewed Shakespeare during his time. The gift shop is full of really cool merchandise. I easily spent more than a hundred pounds there. Workers are all friendly and helpful. Bathrooms easily accessible, although the doorways are quite thin. There is a very good pub adjacent to theater, called the Swan, with a great view across the river of Saint Paul's.

Fabulous! Booked to see Hansel and Gretal. Not what we expected, a more alternative production, but very funny! It was our first time going there(I have always wanted to go to see a production there), so it's very worthwhile. We were lucky to see two television actresses, but all the actors were truly good, and we thoroughly enjoyed the production. Remember, during the colder months, this is an outside theatre. Take a light blanket and wrap up warm!!! You can rent cushions to sit on for £3, but be aware it is wooden seating. The theatre itself is a real work of art! You can walk in on the day and pay for cheap tickets, but you will be standing during the whole production. They sometimes use the standing area to move around sets. Very fun, but just be aware. Nice outside cafe, good hot drinks and there is also a restaurant/cafe indoors in the new building to sit down and eat. Great little shop, but it's expensive, a tourist hotspot . There are a few bits of costume/props from different productions on display (They could really set up a larger permanent costume display, I think it would be interesting. My little one loved the few bits that they had displayed! He found it very interesting). All in all, a good afternoon out. Lovely views of the Thames and St. Paul's. Loads of places to eat out and Borough Market on the doorstep, what's not to love!

This is an amazing historical building. The play we saw was very well done and it was truly a magical experience to see one of Shakespeare’s plays in the Globe Theater. We saw a performance of King John. The actors did a very good job. The seats we had were on the balcony and we had a great view of the whole production.

  • 5/5 marj1st 1 year ago on Google
What a transport back in time! We had top balcony seats and I could not have been happier. Just a heads up, the play is 3+ hours long and I think it would have been worth springing for the cushion. The performance had a stand in reading for King Lear and he was absolutely magnificent - I cannot imagine what the actual actor could have done to have topped it!

  • 5/5 Sue D. 2 years ago on Google
We went to see Romeo and Juliet. Great modern performance from a youthful cast, while keeping the lingo authentic. There were several links to modern mental health issues that tied into the story, which I thought was inspired. A great experience.

Great experience. We came and watched Midsummer Night's Dream after being inspired to do so during a tour earlier in the year. We sat in the upper gallery and had a great view, but not always easy to hear. Nonetheless very enjoyable.

Have been to the Globe a few times in the past year and they've been really enjoyable experiences. Staff are really warm and friendly, taking pride in their job. The theatre itself is beautiful and the plays are fantastic. Both Romeo and Juliet, and a Midsummer Night's Dream are brilliant, with slight modern twists and brilliant casts. The globe also let's you bring in your own food and drink, but no glass.

  • 5/5 Rachel W. 2 years ago on Google
The tour we took was very informative, our guide was super friendly and could answer all of our questions. Note before you go that this is a replica of Shakespeare's globe, you can still go see where the original globe was, really close by, but there's not much to see. The fact that it's a replica though, doesn't take away from the historical impact you can feel and see in this building it's really cool to look around. I'd love to come back in the spring/summer to see a a play here.

  • 5/5 Sandi-lee K. 2 years ago on Google
If you are booking seats the only advice I'd give is to look directly at the stage from the middle section. If you can cope with standing that's the most immersive way to see the play. The RSC are brilliant and really do bring entertainment to the masses. My advice is buy your food and drink from outside the venue as it's pretty pricey inside. The gift shop is great too.

  • 5/5 Chloe W. 2 years ago on Google

The play was very nice, it was an enclosed theater, so it was warm in January, be ready to sit on a bench for three hours. Might worth to select the seats close to the walls.

  • 4/5 Trevor C. 1 year ago on Google
We really enjoyed the tour of The Globe. We felt we had the real special treatment by being able to experience parts of a rehearsal before the opening of Julius Caesar! If you are a big theatre nerd, like me, then you may find that you know most of the history discussed in the tour. It goes barely skin deep into the history of the space and theatre of the time, which was a touch disappointing. Despite my previous knowledge it really is a lovely tour that clips along at a decent pace. We recommend for those who enjoy history and theatre arts.

  • 5/5 Lu Bi H. 1 year ago on Google
Been here multiple times and always had a blast. If you want to go on a guide tour, please book ahead. Try to book to see something in the smaller, more intimate indoor theatre or watch something in the Globe. Was fortunate enough to see The Tempest here last time I was here.

Amazing place, has gift shop and toilet facilities on site. Guided tour was excellent and lasted about 60min. Easily accessible from the Thames riverside. Foot Bridge nearby giving access to and from the North side of the Thames, very close to St Pauls. The surrounding area is also nice to stroll along the banks of the Thames. Plenty of other places to see nearby.

(Translated by Google) The theater, built in Southwark in 1997, is the faithful remake of the Globe Theater where William Shakespeare's theatrical scores came in the sixteenth century before being demolished in the mid-seventeenth century. Although it is a "certified copy", the theater presents itself as a rather scenic and picturesque building, certainly capable of reviving and in any case recalling the glories of the past. £5 to stand in "the pit", absolute bargain! Every member of the cast was excellent. We went for the Audience Choice on a Saturday afternoon. You're given three choices of play and the one that gets the biggest cheer from the audience is the one they perform. Great way to introduce our children (9 and 11) to Shakespeare as it makes it fun for them. Also, being the Globe it has a certain gravitas over a standard theatre.

I highly recommend you to book a tour. I had such an amazing time, the person who gave the tour was very enthusiastic making the whole thing just remarkable, it was like I was back in time and she told so many interesting stories and facts, showing and explaning the details, making everything even more vivid and beautiful. She was also very friendly and dedicated at her job; doing something which I believe, she loves, what resulted in a totally different atmosphere. By the way, is any time soon Coriolanus to be presented at the Globe?

One thing is certain from a States point of view is that it can be challenging understanding the dialog of British Playwright. But I am a bit crude when it comes to theater. I did love the play though. The actors were intense and great at doing there parts. It is a great theater and I would suggest Standing room only because you are right up in front. Also the seats seamed uncomfortable especially for a big guy like me. I read reviews about being in the sun so we went on an overcast day which was perfect. I have watched much theater stateside but I would say for not understanding the Shakespeare dialog very well, I would go back again. This is definitely worth the adventure.

Absolutely brilliant performance of Romeo and Juliet. We had standing tickets which are a bargain but towards the end I wouldn't have said no to a sit down. I think I would still get standing tickets next time though.

I love this building. From outside looks really amazing. Like from i don't know XVIII century. And also guide guy was very good. For Non-English person was really interesting that word "Window" comes from Wind and hole

Lovely atmosphere, staff were helpful and courteous. The performance of Romeo & Juliet, was fantastic, the modern twist a suprise but well executed. In seated area, most of the performance could be seen, small parts when not able to see so well. Would go again.

Reservation is required to avoid the queue. Despite that, what a pleasure ! The guided tour is interesting and lively. The place is superb.

Amazing experience. I’ve been fascinated by Shakespeare from a very young age and so visiting the Globe has been on my bucket list for a long time. The performance of The Tempest was incredible, completely enthralling and hilarious. I cannot wait to attend again.

(Translated by Google) Located between the Tate Modern and the Soutwark Bridge, overlooking the Thames, Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the Globe Theater, the London theater where William Shakespeare's company played. The original Globe was built in 1599 by the Lord Chamberlain's Men theater company (of which Shakespeare was a part) and was destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt the following year, closed in 1642, and finally demolished in 1644. This modern reconstruction, called Shakespeare's Globe, was inaugurated in 1999 and was promoted by the American actor and director Sam Wanamaker: compared to the Globe Theater, it has a half capacity (of about 1600 spectators) and its location (in Bankside) has been slightly moved compared to the original seat. It is a circular wooden theater with an open central space to let in natural light. Shakespeare's inspiration makes it an essential point of reference in modern-day London: although it is a contemporary reproduction of a famous Elizabethan theater, it is a must when visiting the capital of the United Kingdom.
