Big Ben, the famous clock in London, was launched on June 3, 1859 AD [1] [2] [3] [4] Big Ben, the name of the great bell that rings the clock, is located at the northern end of Palace of Westminster in London and usually extends to refer to both the clock and the clock tower as well. The tower is officially known as Elizabeth Tower, so named during the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2012; And he knew before that The watch has become a cultural symbol for the United Kingdom, particularly in the visual media. When television or filmmakers want to point to a public location in the country, the common way to do so is to show an image of the tower, often with a red double-decker bus or black cab in the front. In 2008, a survey of 2,000 people found that the tower was the most popular landmark in the United Kingdom. Sound was also used as a signal for timekeeping in some broadcasters such as the BBC, a practice that began on December 31, 1923 from microphones permanently installed in the tower and connected by line to broadcast. Great to book in advance but we were also able to book the day before! Got there about 10 minutes before boarding and still got great seats on the top level (highly recommend so you can see everything). Our tour guide Jordan was AMAZING! He was casual and very funny, kept everyone entertained with lots of good jokes and puns. Great tour to start off a London trip to get to know a lot about the city, the layout, and even get an idea of what you might want to see in person or more in depth. Definitely recommend for the price. Also, best photos of some iconic buildings like tower bridge from this tour in my opinion (just sit either in the aisle or on the edge)

Big Ben is London's famous clock tower. The clock tower is about to undergo a restoration program until 2021 - the bongs will stop until then. While there has been a plenty of speculation on the bell going silent until 2021, the measure comes in as a way to. We will miss Big Ben until then.

Big Ben, tower clock, famous for its accuracy and for its massive bell. Strictly speaking, the name refers to only the great hour bell, which weighs 15.1 tons (13.7 metric tons), but it is commonly associated with the whole clock tower at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament, in the London borough of Westminster. The tower itself was formally known as St. Stephen’s Tower until 2012, when it was renamed Elizabeth Tower on the occasion of Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years on the British throne. The hands of the clock are 9 and 14 feet (2.7 and 4.3 metres) long, respectively, and the clock tower rises about 320 feet (97.5 metres). Originally in coordination with the Royal Greenwich Observatory, the chimes of Big Ben have been broadcast—with a few interruptions—since 1924 as a daily time signal by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)

Always wanted to do this river cruise but never had chance before so made sure we did it this time. Its a great cruise lasting 40 mins. Its expensive (£36 Adult for a combined cruise and London Eye ticket) but worth doing at least once. Great commentary by Jordan who was informative and entertaining. It was windy on board on the open deck. We could have sat downstairs but we wanted a better view. Got lots of photos. Toilets were clean and all staff polite and friendly. Best to prebook tickets as we just turned up and had to wait for next boat which was an hour away.

A very nice tour on the River Thames of some London site. The London Eye River Cruise is a fantastic way to see some of London's most famous landmarks while cruising along the River Thames. If you're visiting London, it's a must-do experience. It is easy to find as it departs from right below the London Eye, the large cantilevered Observation wheel on the south side of the river. Check-in and on-boarding was very easy and quick. Please buy your tickets ahead and give yourself a few minutes to get to the dock for departure. The boat is comfortable, clean and well maintained. You can choose to sit inside or outside. Either way, you'll have great views of iconic sights like the Tower Bridge, Big Ben, and the Shard. It's like a guided tour on the water! Our tour guide was wonderful, super friendly, funny and know a lot about London's history. They share interesting stories and facts about the landmarks you pass, making the cruise both fun and educational. For those who want to sit inside there is a small TV in the front of the boat that shows stored footage of some of the sites. The cruise lasts about 40 minutes, which is just the right amount of time to take in the sights without getting too tired. It's a relaxing way to enjoy the city. Overall, the London Eye River Cruise is a great way to get a different perspective of London's famous landmarks. Whether you're a tourist or a local looking to explore your city in a new way, it's a wonderful experience that you won't want to miss. Enjoy the cruise!

This was the best river cruise experience and customer service received. They have a fast track lane for disabled and wheelchair users. They helped me on board with a ramp and pushed my wheelchair on to the boat. Once in the captain helped my wheelchair into an onboard lift to access the top deck. They also helped me exit it too. The tour guide was so funny and knowledgeable. The tour takes you along the Thames for around 45 minutes going past some of the most iconic London landmarks. We picked a the first day of the jubilee so we got to see the 41 Canon salute and also the airshow. I would hundred percent encourage everyone for this cruise and especially wheelchair users. Even the ramps are step free access. You will not have any issues at all. Just book everything online.

I took my 5yr old Son for a day out in London to show him the most popular sights. I chose the River Cruise as I thought the pricing was more reasonable than an open top bus tour - a different thing admittedly with different sights but a cruise is just a nice experience. Anyway, I would recommend trying to get near the front on the queue when on the pontoon as then you’ll be more likely to chose better seats upon boarding. As advertised it’s about 40 mins, we had a young Scottish lady as our guide who was both amusing and pleasant.

Great experience and would recommend to all visiting London! I visited London last week with my wife and kids. We decided to book a package for the London Eye and River Cruise as a combo. The cruise lasts approximately 30 mins and we had a highly knowledgeable guide who provided a voiceover for the entire cruise. You have the choose of lower floor seating (covered) or the open top boat so do not let the temperamental great British weather put you off. If you are considering booking, I recommend you go ahead and hope you enjoy the cruise!

10/10 would recommend! 45mins of boat ride with live commentary with punny jokes for a good price. We had Jordan as a guide who really did his best to make it an enjoyable experience. If you want to make great pictures of the tower bridge (not shown here since I made those pics on another device) you should sit on the left side of the boat. The boat will turn at a certain point in the tour which gives you a great opportunity to make pictures of this great sight.

I had the pleasure of taking the London Eye River Cruise during my recent trip to London, and it was truly an extraordinary experience. The cruise departed on time, and the views of London from the Thames River were simply breathtaking. Our guide was both informative and entertaining, providing us with interesting facts and historical information about the landmarks we passed. The boat was comfortable and spacious, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The highlight of the cruise for me was definitely seeing the iconic London landmarks, such as the Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, and the London Eye, from a new perspective. It was truly a unique and unforgettable way to see the city. Overall, I highly recommend the London Eye River Cruise to anyone visiting London. It's an excellent way to see the city's famous landmarks from a new perspective, and the knowledgeable guide makes the experience both informative and fun.

I visited Westminster and London Eye again, but this time just for the boat. It’s a very good riverside view. I saw many famous sights on the Thames, such as Big Ben, Palace of Westminster, Tower of London and Tower Bridge. It is worth mentioning that It's a 40-minute guided tour. The London Eye cruise has accessible facilities such as elevators and ramps, but the elevator space is very narrow. Their staff were friendly and helpful, a big thank you to them for helping me and my wheelchair get into the elevator and make this wonderful trip. Highly recommended

(Translated by Google) The construction of the Big Ben clock dates back to the year 1859 AD, and its name, Big Ben, is due to the sound that Big Ben makes at the end of every hour, but the original name is the clock tower, which was changed in 2012 AD to the Elizabeth Tower in relation to Queen Elizabeth II. The height of the 16-storey clock-bearing tower is about 96 meters, and it is based on the neo-gothic style, which was used in the construction of many historical buildings in England. Was a great experience getting on the cruise. Commentary was class. I would recommend if you want to get to see around London in a different perspective. The bar on board is casual and has a variety of snacks and drinks for the 40 minute cruise. Buying tickets in advance is recommended especially on the weekends as the queues can get extremely long.

We were lucky to make a booking for later on the same morning. Boarding was super easy and stress free. We chose a row of seats on the upper deck with wonderful views. Our tour guide, Harrison, was nothing short of fantastic! He really is an asset to the team. Very knowledgeable and also very funny! A little breezy and chilly on the way back, so we went to sit downstairs which was lovely also. A tourist must-do when in London. Would highly recommend.

It's my favorite place since I was little! The Big Bang of the city of London does not need any introduction. It is a mandatory stop in London, not only for the beauty of this building but also for everything that surrounds it. I wish there were such beautiful places in all parts of the world. The river, Thames, the views of the bridges to the Big Bang I think is the best angle to take some nice photos.

I’ve been listening to the chime of the Big Ben on BBC ever since I was a child. So seeing the Big Ben in person was everything I was expecting it to be. A wonderful monument and a tribute to English engineering excellence. As many of you know this was designed by the famed designer Augustus Pugin, an English architect, designer and artist, in a Gothic style. Even though it was completed over 150 years ago (in 1859) it has been maintained excellently and looks very new. By the way it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Unfortunately, my experience with London Eye River Cruise was quite negative, and I will explain below the reasons. I bought the combined tickets (Eye & Cruise), and I prebooked as per the instructions my cruise slot for 04/01/2022 at 10:45. * The cruise slot has been canceled without prior notice (SMS or email as they have all my details). We learned about it only when we were there. * As it was our last day in London, we didn't have the time to book another slot proposed by the counter agent. So we asked for a refund. * The customer service pushed back on the refund, and they counter proposed to extend the duration of the tickets. * After lengthy conversations (10 days of email exchanges), they agreed on the refund. * The total amount of the refund approved was 26 GBP for three adults and one child. * All the refund calculations were in their favor, and they don't match any of the prices on their site. * No word for the costs incurred for us going to the point * As per their mail, they need 30 thirty working days to proceed with the refund process. Based on my above experience, I cannot recommend anyone to prebook tickets. Moreover, their customer services, policies, and customer orientation are not aligned with the British standards and ethics for one of the top attractions in London.

Best deal for a 45 minute live narrated tour of all the sights along the River Thames (pronounced Tims) from beyond Westminster Bridge and all the way past the London Tower Bridge. All that's missing is the segment of the river at Greenwich, but we took the train to spend a Sunday there. Located on the quieter south side of the river bank and a lovely walk it was.

Definitely a must do in London, don’t feel the need to sit on the upper deck if it’s cold, the view is just as good, sitting down stairs in the warmth. Timing was perfect, not too long so you don’t get bored starring at buildings and no periods of boring silence. Perfect for kids, very child friendly and boredom proof.

Our guide Jack made what could have been a very dull boat ride an entertaining and educational experience. His vast knowledge and witty banter made this one of my favorite experiences on my trip. I would definitely recommend both the London Eye and the River Cruise even if Jack isn't your guide.

Hi we visited the London eye before the riverboat cruise. We bought the tickets together fast and online in a great deal. The cruise was informative and loads of fun. We had a tour guide name.... well I forgot his name. But the said to leave a comment so hear it is. I think it is a must do activity. The view from the river is amazing. A specially the view on tower bridge. The tour guide said to name him kanye west if I left a bad review. But seeing as I can't remember his real name for a good review I'm still gonna use that one. So kanye and team you really provide us with a memorable trip thanks guys.

The River Thames is 215 miles long and has been an important trade route throughout its history. Some people believe that the Romans may have been influenced by the Thames when they were choosing where to build London. It's not just the sewage people should be aware of, but the tides, currents and water traffic too.Aug 5, 2020

I first saw the clock tower and heard Big Ben when I was 15, on my first visit to London. Because of the influence of movies, I had the mistaken impression that you could hear Ben echoing and reverberating all over London. Standing at the base of the tower, you can just barely hear it! However it was impressive as the very symbol of England and the British Empire. Rule Britannia.

  • 5/5 Caue Oliveira P. 3 years ago on Google
Big Ben is the name of a large bell installed in the northwest tower of the Palace of Westminster, the seat of the British Parliament, located in London, United Kingdom. The official name of the tower in which Big Ben is located in the Clock Tower, but it was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee. The tower was inaugurated during the administration of Sir Benjamin Hall, Minister of State of England, in 1859. The tower houses the largest four-sided clock in the world and is the fourteenth tallest clock tower in the world. The tower was built in neo-Gothic style and is 96 meters high, having been completed in 1858 and started its activities on 7 September 1859. The Big Ben Tower is a British cultural icon, one of the UK's most prominent symbols and often appears in scenes from films, television series, programs or documentaries set in London. On February 15, 1952, he played 56 times, every minute during the funeral of King George VI, who died at the age of 56. On July 27, 2012 it rang for 3 minutes (from 8:12 am to 8:15 am) to announce the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympics. [7] It was the first time that the bell rang for its normal schedule since the funeral of King George VI , in 1952

One of the icons of the city, you are bound to see it if you visit the capital, otherwise you weren't really in London. Enjoy its majesty, architecture. you can observe it from a thousand different points of the city. It is a visit that you cannot miss. Fully recommended, it does not disappoint. 5*

1 way trip on the River cruise included with my Big Bus Tour Ticket. Highly recommended! Excellent, witty commentary throughout. Incredible views of the sights along the river Thames such as the London Eye, Tower Bridge and The Shard Well worth jumping onboard if you have time.

Really good tour from Mark. Very interesting facts fitted in to a 45 minute tour. All of us enjoyed it! Definitely worth doing to find out interesting information and see London from a different angle.

The tour itself was what you would expect: a nice riverside view of this beautiful metropole. What truly made it a 5-star activity, was tour guide Elliot. He is just born for this job. He enthusiastically takes you from highlight to highlight with historical knowledge, fun facts and a nice touch of humor from time to time (not over the top, though!). The way the guide and crew reacted when a pint of beer was thrown down from a bridge was just all you could wish for. They immediately jumped in to clean up and took care of the people who got splashed. I truly recommend this one!

Tour guide was great but where you sit on the cruise makes all the difference to your experience I feel. I sat downstairs as it was full and there was a limit to what you can see and it's hard to get a proper photo from where I sat. I didn't have the freedom to move closer to the front being with 2 young children,so I sat half way I a row with a window (it was super hot that day). I'd recommend choosing a day which is less than 30 Deg and sitting upstairs as I'm sure it will make all the difference to the experience and the photos you can get!

  • 5/5 Emma-Louise J. 1 year ago on Google
Booked in advance so got a discount on our tickets, and can honestly say that it was worth the full cost. On arrival the queue was huge, and I honestly feared we'd missed the boat so to speak, but with a 249 people capacity, there was no need to worry....despite being almost at the back we still managed a seat on the upper deck! Boarding is efficient, with bag checks done in the queue and quick scanning of tickets as you board. The boat departed on time and our guide, Jordan was really informative, with lots of additional knowledge delivered with wit suitable for all the family. The perfect start to our trip, and a relaxing way to see loads of the key sights without the leg work. Just 5 mins from Waterloo station, you also get excellent photo opportunities under the eye as you approach the pier.

We booked this as an upsell to the eye and was fabulous. With driving rain we sat inside but was still a great experience and good views of all the sights. Pauline our tour guide was great with lots of knowledge of all the sights. Would definitely recommend this tour in any weather!
