This is my honest review just wanted to share my experience without being prejudice to anyone particular. I have been discriminate by one of the serving guy (presumably he is one of the chefs dressed white with white short beared). All the stuffs in YMCA are wonderful & friendly except this serving guy (presumably he is from South India). As this place advertised & charges for dinner BUFFET so I presume everyone can ask for food as much as you can. Anyway as per my experience goes I have noticed this guy have some attitude problem & he does not seems like people comes back for food second time that's strange! I love Indian food in the YMCA which is delicious & feels like home cooking however when ever I returned back for the second time especially I don't eat rice at the dinner so I ask for chapattis instead of rice & this guy always gives 2 chappatis first time then when I ask for another 2 for the second time he seems does not like that. I don't understand what is his problem? In my last visit in the month of September I have noticed he has been talking & laughing with his colleagues about me because I ask for extra chappatis. Also in a previous occasions I have seen he gave me 2 chapattis from 2 different container presumably first one was freshly made & the second one from the morning as per the taste was two different. I don't know if anyone of you have noticed this as I am thinking of making a complain to the YMCA senior management about this guy. What is really bother me that I don't understand south Indian language so I don't understand what he is talking about regarding me behind my back but as per expression of his face & attitude I can feel uncomfortable & I am sure something is wrong with this guy. I have seen this guy always there in the evening & he is the main person serves everyone food at the counter . Please share your experience if you gone through similar experience like mine

Students, academics, and the public love the long established Indian cafeteria on the ground floor, varied menu non fri, set men as sun, takeaway also. Can cater for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just off fitzroy square, Warren st tube and bus stop. Typical meal 10 pounds

I just want to say that YMCA is one of the most authentic Indian restaurant in London. I have been regularly dinig here for a lot of time. It's also extremely value for money. I mean you can get a full fledged meal ( curries, rotis, salad, Dal and a desert) for flat 13 pounds. It's unlimited. Some of the dishes can be on the oily side but overall the food is great 👍. Furthermore the staff is also friendly. They help you out and even tell you what the different dishes are. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cheap and an authentic Indian meal.

Didn't stay at the hostel but went for food. It was delicious and seemingly authentic, waitress didn't knkw what veganism was at first but once explained they were able to accommodate. Prices are dirt cheap so reccomend if on a budget.

This review is based solely on eating here, please consider that I did not actually stay in the hostel. I had been recommended this place by a friend as a place to grab a cheap and tasty curry, and was not disappointed. £14ish got me a lamb curry, saag aloo, and a large side of rice. Very filling, and delicious. I can highly recommend it if you’re in the area and after a bite to eat.

Only £10 and I was absolutely stuffed. Not anything fancy, it’s basically a canteen but the food is tasty and the service friendly / efficient. Will certainly be coming again when I’m on for a good feed 👍

This place is very well located and perfect if you are looking to for short stays and value for money in Central London. Includes Indian dinner and breakfast - simple, healthy and ready to get your day started. Rooms and washrooms are clean, they also provide basic toiletries and a towel (rare to find in a hostel these days)

I stayed for one night in a single room with attached bathroom last week. Considering the reservation fee (nearly 110£), I expected a nicer room. The room was clean but the furnishing was basic. The food in the restaurant was very average and I don't think it tasted very good. It reminded me of mess food from my hostel days as a student. Agreed it is conveniently located in London, but even then, I have stayed in better hotels in the city for a similar cost. It is good for students studying in UCL, but I don't think it is up to the mark for professionals.

Found this place by accident just walking around and searching for a place to eat but experience was for sure worth it. Home made style food which was lovely and delicious. You won’t leave hungry. Weekend set menu was amazing for us. Thank you guys.

Had a very poor experience. The sheets weren’t changed even once during our stay of 3 days. The staff were extremely rude and did not respond properly at all. Overall, extremely overpriced, and 0 value for money. Wouldn’t recommend at all.

The room was a bit cluttered with oversized furniture. Dinner was simple and tasty but you had to be early or they may run out on some items. Breakfast needs to improve at least for transit guests.

It's very difficult to find another centrally located Hostel within London, offering guest rooms / accommodations at the rates that YMCA provides. I rented a twin room at the rate - 83.5 + 2 (membership fee). The toilet facility is shared and is kept very neat. Laundry / ironing facility is also available. What makes the pricing attractive is that it includes breakfast and dinner buffets. Will recommend as a budget option.

Great food and great location. Jubilee Hall is the best to stay at. Bookings are always on high d mand, so plan your stay well in advance. Breakfast and dinner prices included for residents. Lunch is fully paid service. Balanced Indian menu, with a hint of southern Indian touch.

Location is pretty good, and the staff are friendly. The rooms are nice but you may want an extra pillow (which you can buy at LIDL across the street).

Excellent canteen, outstanding Indian food, this place offers truly authentic Indian food, big shout out to the chefs here. Discovered this place last week and ate here 3nights in a row with my husband, will be visiting again v soon. Just one recommendation, might be handy if you can publish your daily menu somewhere or perhaps even a weekly menu of planned in advance so that customers like myself can plan our visit based on which days our favourites are being served 😊

Great curry served in a clean environment, a hidden gem for curry lovers, but don't expect a restaurant menu, this is home-style food on a canteen menu. As this is a Canteen, there are a lot of seats, but it does get busy, so expect to share tables. I first ate here in 1996 and it never fails to leave me feeling happy and contented.

I regularly come here for lunch. Large portions of authentic home-style Indian food. Plenty of vegetarian options and a decent and clean hostel canteen. **Update** - Reduced to 3 stars as the steep price increase of the food means this is no longer a viable lunch option for me.

This place is ideal for Indians as they provide all Indian authentic meals. Its a set menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The guests will be given breakfast and dinner in their package and lunch can be purchased. The food is very good and practically unlimited. The rooms are basic and comfortable - do not expect 4-5 star type of accommodation. This is a budget accommodation in the heart of London with almost all meals. The location is the best. Its walking distance from 3 tube stations ie. Warren street, Great Portland Street and Goodge street. Further down you will get Euston Square, Tottenham Court Road and Regents Park tube stations. Therefore almost 6 stations close by. All amenities and shops are close by. Its a good place for a single traveller for 2-3 days. Just don't expect the sky.

What a find! Was at UCHL for a late appointment, and had a long drive, so typed Indian into Google, and up popped the YMCA ISH.. Wasn't sure if I 'qualified' but thought why not. Well what a lovely surprise, a warm welcome, and a very inexpensive but tasty evening dinner was presented to me. Absolutely fantastic, and so tasty. I highly recommend, but shhhh don't tell everybody!!

YMCA for any membership people is a real great place to stay in. I should say thier toilets are very clean and maintained regularly.we had taken the mens dom for a family apart from the usual inconvenience when you are used to your own bed and bigger space it was manageable.we were 4 adults and 2 children and with some furniture moving were able to make it comfortable enough for ourselves. It has adequate storage space a very breezy balcony which opens out partial or full to have a sit out. Wonderful look out with view of the park infront of YMCA. Food was spot on and tasty with good portions served.felt homely. Its location is central to all view points. If you come in a car you might need to find space to park, parking infront residence parking available for free after 6 and some paid parking is available around the area ay walkable distances like holiday Inn. We used the your parking space app to get a good deal and on ringo app. Amenities are walkable distances closest tube station would be warren Street with Hammersmith line and circle line and also goodge Street tube. You might have to get to euston for wider range connections or Victoria Station for wider connections for coaches as well. We opted for the euston area as we had booked the toot bus trip and so there is a pick up point just opposite to euston station by St.Pancras cathedral just to the left as you come out of the station. Only down side was the rooms needed to be swept as they were not as clean on the floor.

We had lunch in this hostel and the taste was very good.it was nearer to euston station and from this place buckingham palace is in wAlkable distance only. Usually they have the menu - pulao rice, plain rice with gravies such as fish gravy, chicken gravy, lamb gravy and also buttermilk. Food taste was good and mild not spicy.rest rooms also well maintained. All chefs are indian cook so they are preparing tasty indian foods.

booked a room through their website. Booking confirmation email not received. I wrote them a letter to the specified address for communication and requests with a request to send me a booking confirmation, but I did not receive any answer. The phone number on the website is not answered. Very suspicious. Be careful.

Reasonably priced Indian food (big portions) served school canteen style, with chai and dessert, in a really nice part of London.

No idea about the Hostel service, but our purpose of visit to YMCA Indian Student Hostel is for their Canteen. But we inquired about the process of booking the rooms and they informed us that we have to book a couple of weeks ago before arriving in London. But yes, if I get to stay in the hostel, I would never feel that I am staying outside of India, until I step out of the hostel. And the Canteen is the most important factor to consider this place to stay, as their menu varies every day.

Worst place to stay in london. If you want to get a taste of discrimination and disrespect then you should definitely visit here once. The food is always made in DALDA OIL in order to cut on cost. Every meal is found with some particles of stones and hair in it. I would never recommend to live here. They will mentally torture you if they don’t like you.

  • 1/5 anon A. 2 years ago on Google
This place needs renovation!! I’m not sure why they would still admit these poor Indian kids just wooing them with ‘homemade’ meals. The bathrooms are poorly maintained, paint coming off and some ugly white thing on them. They still try to paint the old rooms without fixing the century old windows. No proper WiFi plans in 2021?! And management that runs the student hostel like a government office?! Why bring your ‘chalta hai’ attitude to Uk?? Indian students deserve the best world class accommodation and not some name sake accommodation that offers a substandard living experience.
