I have no idea why this was listed as a 4 star hotel. Itā€™s in a good location, but so old and tiny. The floors seemed rotten and sagging under the thin fake wood flooring. The bathroom was tiny and old with no countertop. The room was so hot and humid but we couldnā€™t open the windows at night because they didnā€™t have screens. Beds not comfortable but not horrible. There is no reception desk. Prior to my stay I tried calling and emailing many times to ask a question, with no response.

This place is probably the worst hotel I have ever checked into, not being in a third world country. And since it is never too late to fix a mistake we immediately checked out of our two rooms. London hotels can be bad, and I have had my fair share of so so places for still quite a lot of money. However this place beats them all, hands down. This ā€œhotelā€ is so bad that no way it defends the room rate. You should get paid to stay at this dump hole. Floor is broken and tilted and moves like a rotten wooden floor, beds are written of, bedding is dirty with dirty linens, hairs on pillows etc etc. And maybe even more important: I fully support what a previous reviewer said - this is a death trap! All furniture is broken and you have the feeling youā€™ve entered the set of Netflixā€™ series ā€œStranger Thingsā€, however all stuff is broken, worn and dirty (unlike the series). And check the attached picture of the toilet seat... I donā€™t know what sticky stuff has been dripping of that seat... but I wonā€™t come near that... Nice detail: the heating was up so high that it was at least 40 - 45 Celsius in the room, no joke! Even when I opened the window fully (which you canā€™t because of the noise and the homeless people) it was too hot in the room to search for an alternative hotel. Check in was done by the lady cleaning the rooms. I really hated the place. Would not stay here longer than 15 minutes so we checked out immediately and switched to a nice place 150m down the street. I think a good value for this place would be ā‚¬45 - ā‚¬80 a room per night. Iā€™d skip it anyway. Check my other review for reference. Skip this one and put this place out of business. The world thanks you for your support!

I don't know why but this place is called as Russell Square Hotel on my resevation but on google and on the building it is called as Russell House Hotel. The room and bathroom were very small. Bath was clean but needs refurbishment. Room was silent enough to have a good sleep. Reception desk is usually empty. It is not a 4 star hotel. It is cheap and okay if you will stay for a night.

This hotel is a good demonstration how owners make money by renting rooms to tourists without any reinvestment/maintenance. In addition cleaning staff arrive late in the afternoon. In my room a wet towel was forgotten from previous guests. Rubbish was not removed partially. Furnitures are significantly damaged and outdated. There is no real reception nor breakfast available. The receptionist was friendly, a young lady - butI do not understand this level of ignorance with regards to customer`s satisfaction. There is also no elevator, rooms are narrow and the staircases steep. The only benefit is the location. I have not checked safety with regards to fire protection etc. But why this hotel has got 3 stars is a miracle. Maximally 1-2 stars.

Worst customer service Iā€™ve ever experienced in my life. An additional Ā£309 taken and cannot get a refund. Thatā€™s before I start on the actual hotel which is overpriced , outdated, smelly and doesnā€™t have even tea and coffee making facilities. The furniture, bathrooms , carpet and bedding havenā€™t been touched since the 70ā€™S and it shows in the cleanliness of the place. The only good thing is the location but at Ā£400 I ended up paying for 1 night itā€™s definitely not worth it. The owners / staff ignore you and itā€™s noisy all night long with people coming and going. Disaster of a place

Booked online 30 mins before arriving on Queen's Jubilee. No-one answered the door; there is no reception...lots of phonecalls later and a walk around the area for 30 mins and we got in...The photographs were misleading - it's a room with a bed, but that's it. Don't expect anything more than a place to sleep. That said...it was a) available, b) is next door to the tube station and c) is in sensible walking distance to the city centre.

There's pros and cons to staying here. Pros: Really central location and literally next door to Russell square tube station. Lots of lovely restaurants and shops nearby too. Staff were friendly and helpful, sorted out issues I had quickly and kept the rooms very clean. Tea and coffee provided in room. Cons: Hotel itself is a bit dated, old bathroom, carpets etc. Really needs updating. Lots of stairs up to the room. Water in the shower generally only tepid. Hard to find staff as no reception area.

Best location! Literally, next to the tube station, across the road of shopping center and grocery shops. The owners are genuinely nice people, who helped me with the luggage. The room was clean and had the heater, which was vrey important during quite cold November.

Nice and cheap little place. Right next to the station but isn't noisy somehow. Very very nice beds (as you can see from the picture). Only downside is that the bathroom in the room has no toilet.

Stayed here 22nd September 2018 booked with Thomas Cook. We arrived at 6.00 pm. The room wasn't ready, although check in was from 4.00 pm that day. Rooms that had been changed had the sheets piled on the stairs, along with black bags of rubbish and cleaning equipment. In the end, as the room couldn't be done for at least another half an hour, we made the bed ourselves. The room was also much, much smaller than advertised. Someone in the room next door started drying their hair at one in the morning. The location next to the tube was good but we would never come here again. It wasn't particularly cheap at Ā£130 for a double. Stayed here 22nd September 2018 booked with Thomas Cook. We arrived at 6.00 pm. The room wasn't ready, although check in was from 4.00 pm that day. Bad experience. Never expected the room is very outdated. Positive sides - close to tesco for groceries and pret manger for bfast.

Small but nice rooms in PRIME location, and a pretty good price/value ratio.

It has a bed, a toilet and TV. That's all I can say. It's basic and not flash at all. Only bonus is the location.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! I recently stayed at the Russel Square Hotel and I was highly disappointed with my experience. Firstly, the room was not as described, with scuffed walls and an old and unpleasant bathroom. Secondly, we had no hot water for two days and were unable to reach anyone for assistance through phone or in-person calls. As we are still here, I cannot say if the situation will improve. I would not recommend this hotel and would have chosen a different, more deserving establishment for the amount of money I paid. I cannot recommend this hotel.
