In Coalhouse Fort Park, there are lots of different trails you can take and explore wildlife, spectacular views of the Thames Estuary, an impressive historic fort, riverside, parkland, grassland, saltmarshes, WW2 radar tower and much more! Coalhouse Fort was constructed between 1861 and 1874 to combat the threat of invasion from France. The present fort is built on the site of earlier fortifications and was used and adapted in both the First and Second World Wars. With lots of picnic areas to chose from, benches and even playground for kids, it is great place for whole family and your furry friends! Well maintained grounds and very peaceful and also, very good place to come for running and cycling! Lots of information boards around to read to get to know more about the history of this amazing place. The fort was closed when we have visited and will be closed for the foreseeable future, but don't let you put it off as this place won't let you down with other things you can explore there. Although you can't fly drones there, the pictures you will take there will be very nice because the place is very pic There is 'The Engine Room Cafe there' which open every day between 10 am and 2 pm with cold or hot drinks, snacks and ice-cream. Toilet facilities are just next door from the cafe. The car park is reasonable size and free of charge. The Coalhouse Fort park also host a variety of events, from family fun days and wildlife walks to military re-enactments.

Ancient granite-grey fort on the banks of the Thames Estuary. The park around the fort is a pleasant sanctuary from the bleak seawall scenery that stretches for miles either side. Decent cafe and outside seating area. On a bus route from East Tilbury, so you don't have to drive.

It's a beautiful space for walk, picnic, dog-walk and children play. The place has historical importance. Once it was used as a fort. The building remains there but mostly closed. The surrounding areas have beautiful natural scenarios. The park consists of few lakes and the adjacent Thames river view is wonderful. The river view gives a sense of sea view, there isnโ€™t proper beach, but possible to reach to the water. although we didnโ€™t get into the water, as it doesnโ€™t seem safe for kids. There are roads and tracks which provide ample opportunity to walk with dog and kids. There is a small playground as well. Parking facilities are there and it's free. Altogether this place deserve more visitor's attention, we could see handful of people.

Really lovely place for a dog walk. Enough dog waste bins. Parking free and plenty of it. Beautiful surroundings. Great if you are happy for your dog to get messy on the beach and in the mud. Lots of different routes to take, all nice! Toilets available and a small tea room. Worth the 30 min drive for me

At the end of a dead end road is a place to walk by the Thames. The Fort itself is not picturesque and there's evidence that some people come here to drink alcohol - in one of the buildings are lots of empty cans. In the daytime there are large areas where you can kick a ball around and paved paths for non motorised vehicles. A pond is used for model sailboats. The views are pretty over to Kent.

Had really lovely walk around coalhouse fort and what lovely blossom there is . Plenty of nature to see down their. Also somewhere to walk the dog. This is a place where you can go and visit the Fort it self or just want to get out of the house foe five minutes.

Peaceful, interesting, pleasant walk around the Fort and on the "beach" with perfect photo opportunity of the great expanse of sky. A delight on a summers day. Not crowded which was a huge bonus. "Toy" boat races, dogs having fun, crabbing, happy friendly people and a cafe with toilets. The Fort is only open at certain times of the year.

Went here for a free, no frills, half term afternoon out. Lots of walking, playpark and crabbing session : just add kids, picnic, string, bacon and a bucket.

My first visit. Very impressed. Lots of history. Great walks. Thames River walk. Public Footpaths. Clean toilets. Little cafรจ/gifts shop. If you are a walker/have choldren/have a dog(s)/just want a peaceful place to visit, this is perfect. Beautiful old pub, The Ship where you can just have a tea/coffee or a yummy lunch or delicious dinner. There's also a lovely old church and grave yard. Plenty of free parking.

Nice place to spend an hour or two, especially if the weather is on your side. Ideal for walking your dog (poo bins a-plenty, but bizarrely no actual bins), a circular walk around the fort and pathways following the river provide a bit of variety. There's a small play area for younger kids, and quite a lot of picnic tables too. Public toilets available, a rarity nowadays, and a reasonable cafe with a wide selection of teas and coffees. Check the local press if you want a tour of the actual fort, they have occasional open days, and it's military history is interesting and varied. Come early though, because if there is an event, or the weather is particularly nice, the car parks fill quickly. No parking fees either (though maybe I shouldn't draw attention to that, just in case the local council hadn't realised yet...!).

Coalhouse Fort Park is a hidden gem along the scenic Thames estuary. Its historical significance as a Victorian coastal defense fort adds a unique charm to this green space. The well-maintained trails offer pleasant walks, with stunning river views and ample birdwatching opportunities. Picnic spots are abundant, making it an ideal spot for family outings. The fort itself, with its intriguing architecture, provides an interesting glimpse into the past. However, limited facilities might disappoint some visitors, so come prepared. Overall, Coalhouse Fort Park is a tranquil escape that seamlessly blends history with natural beauty.

This review is about the Two Fort Walk between Tilbury Fort and Coalhouse Fort. We walked along the riverside, it took 3 hours of leisurely walk on a nice sunny day, very lovely. Lovely scenery.

Hidden gem of history with a nice little cafe - very poignant (if you are aware of the history) to see two gun barrels from HMS Hood outside. Great walks in either direction - yes on a grey day the coastal path can seem bleak but take some binoculars and you will be rewarded with some great bird spotting - saw my first Marsh Harrier this time!
