We were on a changing of the guards tour. Highly recommend booking this if you are taking visitors to London. Early start from Piccadilly circus and then walk down to St James Palace to wait for guards to come out. Less than usual as there was a rehearsal for Trooping of the Colour going on which we had the added bonus of being able to see part of it. Well worth doing this trip as you get to walk up to the palace alongside the guards

I learned about this location online while in London. I have tried to watch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace on two previous trips and found it nearly impossible for a short person unless you camp out for quite a while! This area requires some planning to arrive early enough for a good seat, but since it is not as familiar to tourists, it was very accessible. We were able to listen to a couple tour guides explain the proceedings, as well. We got to hear the Scottish guard play bagpipes and see the inspection of the guard prior to their march! Excellent experience! *be sure to check the schedule for the different locations online as the formal changing of the Guard is NOT daily in the summer!

St James Palace is one of London's beautiful historical palaces in the heart of the city, just down from the Ritz. Outside you can see the changing of the guard. Inside are beautiful state reception rooms bedecked with stunning portraits of members of the royal family. There are some particularly lovely recent paintings of both Philip and Elizabeth close to the entrance. If you are lucky enough to be invited then you should take the opportunity for a visit.

Went to see changing of the guard Sunday morning the day after the King's Coronation. Fantastic place and setting not far from Buckingham Palace. The area was clean and spotless. Well done London, keep up the great work.

This is a great space to view - although not open to the public, is visible from the streets. Some great little pubs scatter around this palace which is an official royal residence, Prince Charles's house. It was built originally during the Tudor period, and there are bits from a lot of eras evident and it has a changing of the guard - as does Horse guards and Buck House. Take it in along with the rest of the area, in the context of a good walk around Piccadilly.

Change of the guard! Regardless if you are a Londoner, or tourist. It's a Sunday must. Check before hand the times and days and just show up. Tip, to get a better view, show up 10 minutes earlier.

This historical palace has so much history. Those who want to learn and / or see history will like this palace. St James's Palace was built by Henry VIII on the site of the Hospital of St. James, Westminster between 1531 and 1536. Photos from different locations near by.

If you have experienced the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace then this is the other end for the complete experience. It starts and ends here. Definitely worth waiting.

Great for tourism! I went there for an interview, so was given the uninspiring 'workers entrance' side building guide. Still, it was extremely exciting to be in any part of the palace! Lush carpets, deep leather sofa's and high back leather studded chairs with lovely pictures of HRH. I was still very awe-struck!

Today was a magnificent day. Not only blessed by great weather but by the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of King Charles 1st execution. Fabulous pomp and ceremony plus the changing of the guards!

There is no access to the palace. So you can only watch it from the outside. Or buy a private expensive tour. As long as it is the oldest palace in London, we still decided to come over, but do not buy private tour.

Historical Palace, a short walk from the Mall, The Court of St James is still officially the Royal Court, and the accession and proclamation still take place here as they did recently for King Charles

I thought the royal guards were on duty 24 hours a day. There was no guards here today and the only few spots where get got to see the guards, it was virtually impossible to take a picture and they were very far away. Also, there is a chain keeping the public even further away from the gate so it is not what you think. I thought that the guards were more accessible. Not really! Same with the royal palace. The guards are far and it is hot!

Really surprised there was no one here. Everyone goes to Buckingham Palace and this place was empty.

The palace is situated between Pall Mall and The Mall and almost blends in inconspicuously with its surrounding.

We came here to see the beginning of the ceremony of changing of the guards in the palace. It is recommended to check the website for the days on which the ceremony is held. And also arrive half an hour before the start to get a spot. After the beginning you can walk down the street to the palace.

Liz and myself invited for lunch with QCS RAF. AMAZING!!!! Sorry no photos, as not allowed at Royal Palaces. Lunch was out of this world, attention to detail off the spectrum. Amazing introduction to art and artifacts by members of RAF Regiment officers.
